Classic American pub fare serving award-winning BBQ, juicy burgers, smoked meats (brisket, pulled pork, ribs) and hearty tavern classics like fish & chips or Philly cheesesteak. Generous portions and fair prices. Warm and cozy ambience with a timeless tavern/pub feel in a historic building.

The lamb and brisket shepherds pie is the best “I” have had. The bar tender is a Profesional completion bar server and gave me the best version of my favorite drink G&T, had 3. Check it out. Relaxed and layed back too.

Food is amazing, the service is great and I love the playlist. Got the brisket platter.

Amazing restaurant with delicious food and drinks!! Came here on a Friday at 6pm and got seated right away. Their rooftop atmosphere was nice and the service was amazing. While we were in the middle of eating it started raining and everyone in the rooftop moved inside. We got seated inside immediately which was super nice of them. My husband loved the patty melt and the turkey bacon on ciabatta was absolutely delicious!

The burger was excellent, nice smokey flavor that must come from the smoker they use for the rest of the barbecue dishes. Crisp fries, warm and inviting atmosphere. The Old Van Winkle whiskey I had was viscous and complex and reasonably priced given how rare it's becoming. Overall very enjoyable.

Stopped in and had a Brisket Sandwich and a PBR. Sweet young blonde girl working the Bar. She was Friendly, The Sandwich was Good. The portion was good. The price was in line. I'd do it again. Give it a go.

This place is beautiful and cozy with great vibes, great views and incredible food. Our server, Mia, went above and beyond to make sure my boyfriend and I were satisfied. Don’t forget to try their homemade sauce - mustardy and spicy deliciousness. Can’t give this place enough praise! Thank you, Mia! ♥️☺️

Tasty fare and a great rooftop with a view of the rockies. The staff is friendly and we're more than accommodating in splitting and dividing items. The brisket is well seasoned, full of flavor and super tender. A really great experience. The slaw was also a pleasant surprise: hearty vegetables tasty flavors and no mayo. Great experience!!!

A very retro-style bar with booth seating that takes you back to the 1980's when it opened. But nothing is "old" about the beers on tap, high-end cocktails and of course, the excellent food menu! A focus on some BBQ options, but also some great burgers, sides, and salads. Gets busy on weekends so get there early.

Classic traditional bar with lots of nice woodwork and a decent mix of draft local beers to choose from. They do have a rooftop terrace and additional seating upstairs but we chose to relax at the bar on this visit.

I ate the brisket platter. It was tasty. So were the beans, coleslaw, Texas toast & pickles. Bbq sauce was good too.

Food was great, really enjoyable. Staff was very friendly and attentive. They have a kids' menu (note, there are two chicken strips, one is missing in my photo). Kids' meals include a frisbee to take home and it's a decent one. Serving sizes were good, the Wet Bowl tasted great, healthy but satisfying. Good beer selection. I think some parts of the restaurant have AC (basement) and some don't (street level) so if you have a preference let them know.

My friends and I had lunch on the roof top overlooking the Flat Irons and we loved it so much that we came back the next day. I asked our server Luke to suggest his favorite sandwich and he suggested the Philly with the cheese sauce. OMGOSH soooo good! We then tried the BBQ for 2 the following day and there was so much meat on our platter. I highly recommend this restaurant while in Boulder.

We went here after a long hike up to the Royal Arch and back in 50-80 degree weather. We sat in the upstairs room, which was open windowed and had a pleasant barbecue smell from the grill outside. The food we got was delicious and surprisingly lighter than we expected from a barbecue. I got the barbecue pork sandwich and my wife the brisket sandwich. Both entrees came with perfectly cooked fries, and both had house-made pickles included (though for the BBQ pork sandwich it was on the side for some reason). We devoured the sandwiches and all of the fries. Super great food and a great experience.

One of the best Buffalo chicken sandwiches I ever had! I asked Zach the bartender for a recommendation and he offered three dishes that all sounded amazing. I stopped in for my first visit on a busy Friday evening and had a quick dinner at the bar. The stsff was attentive and super friendly. They also have a great whiskey selection, including Pappy van Winkle!

Hands down the most extensive bourbon selection I’ve seen in my travels. 100% of the bottles are listed in a book and reasonably priced. Some brown I haven’t seen on a shelf in years. Friendly staff and great beer and food selection. Reservations highly recommend days before, even on weekdays. Rooftop a bit stuffy on calm summer days.

What can a filthy tourist like myself say that hasn't already been shared by countless other patrons? I didn't dabble in the food much (though the skillet cornbread was 😘👌) since mission critical during our visit was sipping on quality brown water. To that end, I can say we achieved our goal and then some. They have one of the best bourbon catalogs I've seen in a bar of this nature and I was able to enjoy a couple drams of quality juice that was priced respectably given how much the bottles fetch on secondary markets. The bartender was clearly knowledgeable and was attentive throughout our time spent at West End. If you're a bourbon head and are looking for a place to hang your hat for a couple of hours, look no further.

We're southerners visiting Colorado, and food in the south is good. It's hard to find comparable cuisine, but the Tavern did not disappoint. My wife got fish, and I got a BBQ plate. The food was great, I enjoyed the selection of craft beer, the view from the balcony was nice, and our server Peter was excellent. He didn't hover, fully answered all of our questions, and was always available at just the right moment. It's the best place we've tried during our visit.

Love the patio area, with an amazing view of the mountains. The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. The pork sandwich was yummy, smoked flavor with my favorite type of fries.

This is a great little Tavern with Old Fashion flare! Bar Food with a few added twists. The Trout dip was amazing and the hand cut fries were cooked to perfection. Though the prices are a bit high, the taste is excellent. The staff is friendly, personable, and provide great service. The atmousphere is old school for sure, yet comfortable. Great for small groups or a night out with you significant other. Several TVs provide that opportunity to watch your favorite sport. The menu is limited, but each item we purchased was made to perfection!

We loved our visit to the West End Tavern! Burgers were fantastic, and the waitress was absolutely top notch. When one member of your party has a special diet, it can be difficult to go out. Here, the waitress listened and asked questions enough so that she understood the restrictions and could communicate with the cooks to ensure the best tasting meal possible, within that special diet. She even suggested and confirmed backup order just in case the first options weren't possible. All this, even with St. Patrick's Day chaos all around. When the food came out, it was perfect and she soon checked in with us to make sure it was. We'll be back!

We are on vacation... ordered the philly cheese steak with fries for lunch. The food was so incredible that we ordered the lobster roll, cornbread skillet, mac n cheese & dirty wings for dinner.... again... AMAZING FOOD!!! Definitely highly recommend this gem !!

If you're looking for delicious food and great service, this is the place. Tried the pork chili. It was the first bowl of chili I had that was loaded with meat. Also had the Sticky bird. The sandwich had the perfect amount of sweetness to it. The fries that come with the meal have good seasoning to them. Good selection of whiskey also.

The West End Tavern has a good environment and friendly, if not black-tie, staff. My wife and I sat close enough to the kitchen to overhear the staff complaining about rude customers and enjoyed the flashback to when we used to do the same when we worked in a restaurant together. We came for happy hour and got the chicken and waffles, W.E.T. fries, a cheddar burger, and the chicken slider all for $20. On top of cheap drinks, this place will likely become a regular dinner spot when we are looking for bar food and good beverages.

My coworkers and I needed to kill time before headed to the airport and someone recommended walking Pearl Street Mall. Thank god they did and we found this place. Stopped in for a late lunch Wednesday around 1:30 and got seated right away. It’s several levels so you think small and quaint but it was amazingly laid out. Server was fantastic and super nice. The food!!!! Between five of us I give five stars to the Burt ends, sweet potato fries, BBQ sauce, smoked turkey club, brisket plate, Brussel salad, and the biggest Philly cheese steak I have seen with a huge side of melted cheese. The food was priced great for how amazing it was and huge generous portions. We will absolutely be making this an annual stop from the conference. I always take pictures for my reviews so I’m sad I don’t have any, but this food was so amazing and so good! We WILL be returning!

An amazing 🤩 spot to grab a beer, meal, and catch the Broncos game. The food here is great and they have an array of whiskeys to select from. I made the right decision by trying their fish and chips. Extra crispy white cod with crispy fries and slaw. I highly recommend it. My wife really enjoyed her brisket plate and we tried the chicken skewer appetizer. What a great bar atmosphere and the service is great. Food came out quickly. We’ll be back for sure.

Really good barbecue! Didn’t expect this place to be this good. The service was outstanding! Very attentive and checked up on us every so often. Check out their brisket it was definitely worth it!

The bartender Lucas was amazing!! Great beer and whiskey suggestions. We tried the queso, which was a tad watery for my taste, but still amazing flavor. The burnt ends were fire and then we shared the butcher block as our entree... If you're a hungry individual or in a group, order the butcher block, it will not disappoint. Don't miss this cool spot in Boulder.

We were told by the host about the jerk skewer as a special that would be going on the menu and had to try it. WOW. We have never tasted anything quite like that. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and the plantains with the coleslaw was a great combination of flavors. We will be back again just for that! Truly the best food I’ve had in years. Run don’t walk to this restaurant!!

The brisket and pow-pow punch won the evening, but the burger and draft drinks wer on point as well! Service was attentive but not overwhelming. Great atmosphere for watching a game, fun with friends, or even a romantic evening.

I was here about 4.5 years ago and let me tell you, the burger I had was THE BEST BURGER I’ve ever had in the states! I’ve consumed a couple burgers over the years, and I am picky on burger criteria and taste, and this one took me by surprise. I’d make the trip from Michigan just to order another one.

I had the nicest lunch here with my husband and infant son. Can’t recommend highly enough. Order the wedge salad with steak and a glass of Pinot noir 👌 The fries crush as well.

S

Grabbed a burger here with my son and the food, service and atmosphere were excellent! Burger was smash burger style where we added cheddar, bacon and (per the waiter recommendation) grilled onions and jalapeño peppers. Contender for best burger in the region! Service was very attentive and the whole experience was higher end than most. We had the wings and they also came across elevated. Nicely done!

West End Tavern will always have a permanent reservation in my heart. This was the very first restaurant I ate at when I moved to Boulder, Colorado—so it’s basically part of my origin story. It’s also where I had my first job interview… and got hired. So yes, this place has seen me at my hungriest and my most employable. Sentimental value aside, the food absolutely holds up. The burgers are consistently amazing, and the fries? Dangerous. The kind of fries that make you forget you ever claimed to “eat healthy.” On my most recent trip, we ordered the fish and chips and the veggie burger, and both were phenomenal—crispy, flavorful, and clearly made by people who respect good comfort food. If you’re ever in Boulder and need a reliable spot for a top-notch meal, West End Tavern is the move.

This review is specifically based on my bar experience (no food). November 2025: My husband and I sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks. The bartender was friendly and the barstools were comfortable! I ordered the Old Buffalo from the cocktail menu and got it smoked. It was awesome! I loved the Bourbon and the smoke enhancement. We also met a few people while we were there and we enjoyed the warm, social environment.

Pretty decent bbq spot. Got the burnt ends, brisket platter, smoked artichoke dip, and crispy Brussels. The Brussels were very crispy - too dry. The burnt ends were inconsistent, some were dry and hard and others were buttery and fell apart. The brisket platter was good, it was all too much food. sweet potato fries and slaw were good. Most things were lacking flavor for us. The smoked artichoke dip was the best. The in house chips were great! Our server, Josh, was very nice. He kept closing the door for us since it was very windy and we got cold.

The shepherds pie was good, but the appetizer (Korean bbq skewer) and side (onion rings) were definitely the best part of the meal. The cocktail was also really good.

The West End Tavern was a pleasant experience with a few hiccups. We quite enjoyed the jalapeno dip, the peppers paired with the cheese so well and the portion size was far better than most other restaurants selling the same item. The fish from the fish and chips was crispy with a tasty batter and the fries were pretty decent. The sticky style chicken sandwich was an interesting take that absolutely had me reaching for the wet naps. It was sweet and crispy with a bit too much apple, overall nice but I don't think I'll go back to it. The kids food is where I question things. Kids are picky, sure, but why is the chicken breast and fries so plain? The service was ok, a bit slow at times and and definitely distracted.

Well I made it to the roof top after visiting the bathroom at the bottom of the stairs, nice and clean and quiet there with the local daily paper hung there to glimpse. Was not crowded and got a nice table up top with heat . Looks like the “whisky club” is on hold a few till someone gets here hopefully worth the wait! Whisky club is on hold! Got the beef brisket and pork Sammy, very high quality cuts of meat and very tasty. The Mac an cheese was the bomb! Service on roof top may be a bit slow but over all a great place to eat and take a break! Haden

Got the butchers plate, which was fine. The burnt ends were super dry. We also had a special Pork Belly Bowl that was phenomenal. Hope they add that to the menu.

West End Tavern was a relatively good place to have eat. The ambiance is quite good and the staff are pretty friendly. Food was also okay although I had tastier bbq before. My partner ordered a brisket sandwich that I think is a better choice compared to the meet plate.

Awesome rooftop seating, solid menu. Excellent waitress (Briana?). Food was a little hit or miss, but good overall. Filet was overcooked. Great drinks and appetizer.

Korean BBQ skewer was mediocre at best. My fries were a bit over seasoned. My friend did really like the chicken sandwich. Service was good but not exceptional. Ate outside which was quite pleasant! So many options on Pearl St...I feel like you have to really stand out, which this didn't.

One of my go to restaurants in boulder! The fish n chips are soooo good along with the burnt ends. I also love their chicken sandwiches and wings! Great place. UPDATE: I think this place is under new management. The food quality isn’t what it used to be.

A

Nice location and atmosphere, friendly servers, dishes are nicely presented, but the food was just ok and took very long to arrive. Both the regular and the sweet potato fries were frozen products heated in an oven, not made fresh. I suspect the appetizer was too.

Food was amazing. Manager was on point checking in on us and helped my disabled mother with a ramp so she can come into the restaurant. Server was lazy we always had to get her attention. I can tell we were her last table so she was just waiting for us to get up. She didn't even clean the dirty plates off the table just stood there talking to the bartender. Her replacement was more proactive than her. Manager, food, atmosphere was fantastic just lazy server. Will come again. 😊

Went to this restaurant for lunch today. My wife had a veggie burger which she enjoyed greatly! I ordered the wings on the appetizer menu, as I had read that they had the best wings around. The menu stated "Jumbo chicken wings, 6 pieces". The price was $17.00. I thought "wow, that is awful expensive for six chicken wings, but hell, they are jumbo wings so I'm sure it will be fine". Well, nope. I got 6 regular old 1-1/2 to 2" chicken wings with three pieces of celery and three pieces of carrot. The wings were delicious, and the service was good, but the 6 piece regular wings for $17 is a down right rip off. Please respect people's hard earned money and adjust your menu to reflect a fair market price for 6 regular sized chicken wings, as well as an accurate description so that people can order an ample lunch.

We’ve lived in Boulder for almost 10 years and used to be regulars at West End. Since new ownership took over their quality has slid — with prime examples being the bread on the brisket sandwich, the boring BBQ plate, and basic plate ware. These people giving 5 star reviews lack taste and understanding of what a top notch tavern experience feels like. If West End stops cutting corners to optimize margins and re-invest in a quality product and atmosphere, we’ll consider going back. Bring back the booths!

K
Karsten Schiller

This was sadly a disappointment. I had a good tip that the wings are amazing. However, the wings were overpriced, by a landslide. $14 for 6 wings. My wife and I ordered 6 wings and one of the BBQ plates that included ribs, pulled pork, and a smoked sausage. One word describes the BBQ plate: dry. I couldn't believe how dry the pulled pork was. So dry and not very smokey. The ribs were also very tough in texture, a huge disappointment. Smoked meats should be juicy and flavorful, not dry and bland. The smoked sausage was spicy, but also dry. I will say the presentation was outstanding. But taking a bite of the smoked meats spoiled the whole feast. The service was okay. Not great. Not terrible. Just okay. I will probably never go here again.
