Just been for Sunday roast. First visit since Davenports. Had the sharing platter. Was excellent and good value. Home cooked and tasty. Definitely recommend a visit! Service a little slow if I’m honest but was worth the wait. Very friendly staff.

Popped in for some lunch for my birthday before a dog walk, we were all well looked after by Andre, including our puppy! All of our food was delicious and service was great! We sat in the cosy bar area, youngest particularly loved that the football was on! Would 100% recommend and we are looking forward to coming back to try out different meals off the menu.

This is our 4th visit since August and it never fails to please. The food is outstanding and the service is excellent. Special thanks to James and George who looked after us 15th January. Had the sea bass this time followed by poached pears, absolutely delicious, and beautifully presented. Just love the atmosphere and decor of this very special place, which has become a real favourite. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.

★★★★★ An Unforgettable Sunday Lunch – Pure Romance and Divine Dining Our recent Sunday lunch at The Red Lion was nothing short of sensational — a true return to everything that fine dining and heartfelt hospitality should be. After many years away, stepping back through the doors felt like a journey down memory lane, only this time the experience surpassed all expectations. Quite simply, it was the best Sunday lunch for miles around — and I do not say that lightly. We chose the sharing platter, and it was utterly divine. Every element was beautifully cooked, generously portioned, and bursting with flavour. From the first bite to the last, it was clear that care, pride, and passion go into every plate that leaves the kitchen. The setting elevated the experience even further. We were fortunate to have the room entirely to ourselves, creating an intimate and wonderfully romantic atmosphere. A softly glowing Christmas tree added warmth and charm, making the moment feel truly special and almost timeless. Unhurried, elegant, and deeply memorable — this was more than a meal; it was an experience. A perfect place for romantic dining, special occasions, or simply making cherished memories. We left feeling content, grateful, and already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended — perfection from start to finish.

I can’t recommend this pub highly enough! Every visit is consistently fantastic, and it’s clear just how hard the whole team works to make everything run so smoothly. The atmosphere is warm, the service is spot-on, and the attention to detail really shows. A special shout-out to Jade — she is absolutely outstanding. Her energy, professionalism, and genuine care for customers make such a difference. Honestly, the place just wouldn’t be the same without her. She’s the heart of the operation, and it shows in every interaction. If you’re looking for great food, great service, and a team that truly puts everything into what they do, this is the pub to visit. Highly recommended!

Food was amazing!! Had a three course meal. The haddock was epic with triple cooked chips. One of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Definitely recommend! Not too expensive either. Three course meal with a couple of drinks £50.

A fabulous venue which we highly recommend. We had an evening meal on the 29th October for our 37th wedding anniversary and was looked after by Molly and Andre. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we were given 1st class attention. The food was amazing. We will be returning. Many thanks, Sarah & Nick.

stopped by this pub recently and had a lovely evening. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, the kind of place where you can actually unwind and enjoy a good natter. We ordered a bottle of wine and a cheeseboard, and both were spot on. The cheeseboard had a great mix of cheeses, crackers and a chutney, also was HUGE! The staff were super friendly and attentive. Overall, a really lovely pub — I’ll definitely be coming back!

Perfect way to spend your evening! The food was delicious once you can finally pick from all the options, well thought out and perfectly garnished for a wholesome tasty meal. The drinks were delicious and the dessert was the perfect end to a fabulous evening. Staff were lovely and the atmosphere was cosy. Will definitely be visiting again!

Popped in for a couple drinks with the work girls on Tuesday, had never been here before but it was recommended by one of the girls. Such a cosy pub and so inviting, we didn’t eat here so can’t review the food. The lady behind the bar ( can’t remember her name) tall with tattoos and dark hair, was so inviting and friendly. Deffo going to be our new meeting spot for our after work debrief!!

Our first visit to the red lion and we went for lunch and it did no disappoint . Josiah who served us was extremely nice and friendly . The pub we were told is 17 century and it is absolutely stunning with a lovely modern extension , wooden beams and flooring everywhere, and roaring log burner , and a small selection of board games aswell . My Mrs had the curried parsnip soup which she said was way to spicy 😅 but I thought it was lovely , especially as I hate parsnips . The burger and was very nice indeed but the chicken goujon baget was a disappointment , all processed not fillets . 100% recommend to all

A beautiful, traditional village pub, in the middle of a lovely little village. It has lost a LITTLE bit of its really, really old charm over the years, as it's been turned in to more of an eating place than a real traditional pub. It does still have lots of character though and the changes are sympathetic. The staff are brilliant. Very attentive and friendly. The food is also excellent. Well cooked and well presented. Definitely recommend.

Visited regularly since The Red Lion re-opened under new ownership as groups of 2, up to 7.. Food choice is good & the food is always first class in quality. Excellent service, led by Jade & Molly. Definitely a 5* restaurant and pub...well worth a visit.

After reading some odd reviews I was hesitant to try but on the way back from Stafford hospital we drove past and decided to make our own mind up and I am so glad we did. This place is a hidden gem. The team were so helpful with my husband allergies. Will be visiting a lot more. Friendly staff. good food and not to expensive. I am not sure who is in charge of the music but it was a very good playlist and the volume was perfect for us to listen but still be able to talk. Thanks Red Lion Lion

First time for a long time that I have eaten here and I have to say I wasn't disappointed. Every course of my three course meal was delicious. Restaurant wasn't busy (it was a Monday night) so we had plenty of time for a chat with our waitress about all the LP outlets. Pity she is leaving as she is an asset to the group. Highly recommend the restaurant. (Photo of my starter)

Great night out with lovely food and perfect service. First visit since being taken over by Davenports. What a difference- the menu has a wide choice, an exciting range of dishes and all reasonably priced. I had the Korean pork bites to start, followed by the lamb shoulder whilst my wife had the fillet steak followed by poached pears. All the dishes were perfectly cooked, well presented and tasted fabulous. All the meat was so tender and came with a good choice of vegetables. The staff were helpful, friendly and professional. Will definitely visit again soon.

We have been drinking at the Red Lion since it reopened under the Davenport banner and have always received a warm welcome from Jade and the team. We were meeting with friends visiting from the Philippines and had booked to eat. We were shown to our table and given menus, we opted to have a bread basket and olives while we made our choices and chatted. We decided on slow cooked lamb shoulder, vodka battered haddock and chips served with peas, curry sauce and tartar sauce, sirloin steak cooked medium rare and venison, pancetta and pot pie all served with seasonal vegetables. The pie was a proper pie not a bowl with a pastry top, the batter on the fish was light and crispy, the sirloin cooked to perfection. The chips were proper ... hand cut not frozen. Two of our party opted for sweets of Biscoff Cheesecake and Dark Chocolate Torte, sizeable portions and delicious. Will we dine here again? 100% we will. Service and food was excellent set against a lovely atmosphere made for a fantastic night.

We had a lovely late lunch 3 courses for four of us. 2 gluten free, one smaller appetite Absolutely beautiful food. I had a small issue with my starter but it was rectified quickly and satisfactory. I'd highly recommend the sea bass and raspberry creme brulèe for dessert

Found this lovely spot when trying to find the best Sunday diner at a half way point to meet family. The Sunday diner did not disappoint, well presented, super tasty and everything was perfection!! Highly recommend and would return. Server's were all great and nothing was a problem. However, total honesty, the starters and desserts for some members of the party were nothing special and disappointing versus the mains. Pate to start x2 didn't come with enough bread, and risotto x2 were both luke warm. Desserts, x2 of us opted for apple crumble and the custard was basically hot milk, the consistency was not even close to custard and there was zero taste, also the crumble itself was far too sweet and was more like a pot of apple puree with a sprinkle of crumble. This said, we would all return just for mains as it really was fab. Decor is a lovely warm country pub and bustling with character and charm.

Five of us had a meal, and it was all very good and the service was excellent. One of our group had significant dietary requirements, all of which were addressed with no fuss or issues. Keep up the good work.

We visited for the first time last night since it reopened and it did not disappoint. The food was incredible! I had the Harissa prawn starter, and the king prawn and sea bass with noodles, my husband had the soup starter and the burger which he said was the best he’d had. The staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Andre was lovely and introduced himself by name, taking the time to ask what we’d had to eat that evening and if we’d enjoyed it and bringing the barrister over to make our coffee just as we like it. There was live music playing and a lovely atmosphere throughout the place. It was buzzing! We will most definitely be returning. Booking is recommended as this seems the place to be at the moment! A fabulous job guys! x

We dined in for the first time since reopening for our annual meal out with close friends We had the festive menu and the food and portion size was exceptional The only down side was waiting for 15 minutes for wine to be served but overall the experience was fantastic, we will be back

We went 1 week from re opening. Really like new decor and layout. Much brighter and modern but still keeping a nod to its heritage (loose the taxidermy for me though....) Food choice and quality excellent, dead flowers on table a no no, a negative was after our food we were offered coffee or bill as it was after 9....so be sure to check you can still have dessert if you book a later table. They did check with chef and he would have done them this time but maybe another time not..... It says dogs on leads but they need to be held by owners and not left to roam! But overall a great night, atmosphere and some excellent changes to space indoor and out!

We visited today 3 of us for a Christmas lunch. The turkey meal looked lovely when it arrived the presentation was excellent however there was only 1 carrott 1 parsnip 2 roast potatoes No mash We were expecting a dish of vegetables to he brought out. The taste was lovely beautifully cooked but we were still hungry after eating it. The lotus cake was delicious but we were surprised at the price of the rose wine...£30.

Visited tonight for a meal for 3. Firstly no wine or drinks list! So difficult to order wine. We ordered 3 meals. 2 were lovely. Mine was disappointing. I ordered the slow cooked pork belly. The mash/cabbage and carrots were Luke warm. Reluctantly I requested to have it re- heated. Now it was returned to me on a hot plate. Mash and veg still luke warm and the meat had been left to cool, so it was cooler than what I sent back. I was so disappointed as the meal would have been amazing, had the food been hot. So good food-Poor execution. Handled well by first waitress. But I was made to explain myself again which was uncomfortable and I was In tears in the end. Standing over me with my food expecting me to explain what was wrong was poor customer service. I did decline the offer of alternative food. As I was too upset. So there was the offer to put right. But the others had finished their food by this time. The other meals where great red lion chicken and Guinness burger. So in the end a night for a celebration meal was very disappointing.

Nice place but problems with the food. Mum's fish was way too salty, daughters plain burger had to be sent back twice (second time not cooked properly but they tried to say it was the paprika we could see!). Even heard the table behind us say their chicken wasn't cooked properly and sent it back.

Food absoloutely amazing but call me picky id probably never use again due to being over charged i pointed out there was a discrepancie in the bill but i was made to feel it was my fault for pointing it out no apology. Due to this its probably the last time i will use this lovely establishment.

J

If you like £6.50 sausage rolls or hot chocolates which aren’t even warm or have more than a singular scoop of hot choc powder this is the place to go

We went for my 40th Birthday following some good reviews but unfortunately we had a very poor experience. It was a busy friday so i expect a slower service but our first drinks took 45 mins to arrive, even after asking after 30mins, then the kitchen forgot our starters all together and went straight to mains which arrived over an hour after we ordered, then the Eton mess arrived for dessert but it was just a massive dollop of overwhipped split cream with some meringue shards. The Waiters were excellent considering what they had to work with and we weren't charged for any food as an apology which was much appreciated.

G
Gill Quiney

Good refurb and menu sounded good so we tried it. Sadly supermarket style steak pie with frozen peas isn’t my thing. Had a 35 min wait for pudding which whilst repeatedly promised never arrived so we got the bill. I suggest letting a few months go by whilst the new team get settled in as certainly the male waiters need some training one having made a snippy remark about my glass of wine. The good female waitress was run ragged and worth her wait in gold to the business

C
Callum Webber

Service was below average had to ask twice for drinks that i had paid for to be brought to the table after we was made to pay for our drinks and dinner first. When the food arrived at the table the meat was rare when asked for well done and the vegatbles wasn't cooked might aswell say the vegatbles were rare also. Will not be eating their again until new management.

L
Louise Sigley

Visited on Saturday evening waited 25 minutes for our drinks order to arrive. Food order taken waited 45 minutes then asked where our food order was took them 15 minutes to decide they had lost the order. Were offered a free meal but didn’t feel like waiting and left the premises without eating. There was no supervision of staff going on and the only manager I could see on the premises was sat down having a drink.

M
Marianne Horsley

Had a lovely meal , great atmosphere. However we were asked to leave our table by the waitress because she said she wanted to go home. Even though there were other people still dining.very disappointed after having a lovely meal.
