Amazing food and atmosphere. Cheap compared to the very high quality (we paid 1500 for food and drinks for 2 people)
Wow. This place was absolutely delicious. If you’re looking for upscale, high quality food, this is the place. Might be the best Cauliflower Tacos I’ve ever had. Definitely coming back before our trip is over.
Loved this place on my second visit. Had a raw tuna starter and a grilled mahi mahi main which was excellent. My date had the same starter and a grilled octopus main, which was very well cooked and tender. Overall a very nice place with occasional live music and great atmosphere. Highly recommend!
This place is amazing. We got a lot to share so we could try more items. We got the mahi mahi tacos which were really filling and delicious. One piece of the huitlacoche quesadilla which was amazing! It is great you can order the tacos and quesadillas by the piece in case you are not that hungry. We also got the tuna tataki which was super yummy and melt in your mouth. It came with crispy tortillas but we didn’t use them. The restaurant also provided complimentary salsa and chips which tasted amazing. We got the La Santa cocktail and spicy mezcal which were the most flavourful cocktails we’ve gotten since being in Mexico. As a main we got octopus and shrimp tlayuda which was great a bit hard to eat with a fork and knife but if you ate it with your hands it was all good. The atmosphere in the restaurant is stunning. It’s very bohemian and utilizes indoor and outdoor space amazingly. I would recommend this place if you’re looking for an intimate date night.
We tried several Michelin Guide–listed restaurants along the coast and in Oaxaca, but none came close to Atarraya. The experience is unpretentious yet refined, with warm, attentive service and truly exceptional flavors. We will definitely return and recommend it to anyone in the area.
The best meal we had in puerto escondido and one of the best meals I've ever had in my life! The ambiance is stunning - great vibes the second you walk in. Our waitress suggested some excellent drinks and menu items and we were floored by how tasty and unique everything felt. We tried different mezcal and then there is a little shop outside which sells their mezcals after dinner. Just an overall fantastic experience.
Excellent food, very cool atmosphere with live music. Highly recommended for a romantic evening. The huitlacoche quesadilla was one of the best things we’ve ever eaten.
Food was delicious! Best we had on our trip to puerto. We ordered the ensalada de tomate de región, agua chile negro de camarón, tlayuda de pulpo y camarón and the chile relleno de mariscos. The sauces on every plate were delicious. I really appreciate the attention to detail on the dishes and presentation. The drinks are a must as well! Make sure you make a reservation.
Atmosphere is really nice. The service was good and the staff is attentive. Tostidos with rib eye was amazing! Shrimp tacos also really good. All dishes were plated beautifully with attention to detail. Overall a nice experience. A bit more expensive than average restaurants in Puerto Escondido, but definitely worth it. Would recommend.
Easily some of the best food I ate in La Punta. I found myself going back again and again for dinner. They were also very friendly and accommodating despite my very limited Spanish. The decorated courtyard is amazing and the woodwork in the dining area is amazing. The huitlacoche quesadillas and squid ink chile relleno were two of my favorites!
Asier, Cami and the team at Atarraya helped me organize a welcome party for our wedding and words can’t even begin to describe how incredible it was. All of the guests were absolutely blown away. If you’re looking to throw a private party in Puerto, this is the place to make it happen! Thank you Atarraya 😊
We had a great time at Atarraya ´s! The service was excellent, the food and the cocktails were amazing and the atmosphere exactly what we were looking for after a day spent on the beach. I definitely recommend this place for its numerous qualities! Special note for the cocktails: try the most recent ones: the bartender is a magician Kudos to the team!
The food is amazing and the restaurant has a beautiful ambiance. Great for a group celebration or a date.
We had a great dinner here! The food was flavorful and clearly made with care, with each dish showing real attention to detail. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting. The service was friendly and attentive and they handle larger groups smoothly, making the whole experience relaxed and enjoyable. It’s easy to understand why the restaurant has been on Michelin’s radar.
Easy experience booking ahead online for a reservation! All staff members were incredibly kind and helpful. We were seated immediately (although we were early) and ordering was a breeze. We started out with the matcha martini, Pacifica, and tuna tataki. My husband loved his Pacifica and it was delicious but I absolutely loved my matcha martini. The baileys and matcha blend was delicious. We both loved the tuna tataki for our app as it was perfectly fresh with a delectable sesame crust. Our entrees came out quickly after, which worked in our favor. We each ordered and entree and then marinated pork rib tacos to split. I had the rib-eye with mashed potatoes, roasted tomatoes, and corn. The rib-eye was perfectly rare as I requested and just buttery and delicious. Couldn’t ask for more out of a rib-eye. My husband had the grilled mahi-mahi and loved it. It was so fresh, even grilled! The purées did add some extra flavor but the mahi-mahi itself was delicious on its own. We did enjoy the marinated pork rib tacos! While they weren’t my favorite tacos, as the pork was a bit dry, the taco itself was still good. Great way to end a meal for sure. We couldn’t choose between their Carlota or chocolate mousse so we just ordered both. The Carlota was so good, just very refreshing with lots of lemon. The mousse flavor and texture were perfect too, very light to eat. Overall we loved the Carlota, but you couldn’t go wrong with either of them. Our waiter did come back with house special tequila shots to end our meal and night. Perfectly smooth! Very thankful for such a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere and experience.
Amazing ambiance, well paired menu, great bar tenders. Would be nice to have physical menus in addition to QR code and also fabric napkins or thicker quality napkins Guacamole — fresh simple, but outstanding!! Did have to add lime and salt though Quesadilla de huitalacoche — the flavors!! I ordered one to see if I’d like, then ordered two more Tuna Tataki — soo fresh, nothing that would make me order again Panchita cocktail — loved the passionfruit with basil!! Xochitl mezcal cocktail — perfectly crafted!!
A nice and smooth gourmet journey. The kind welcome, a little candle at the table, fresh passion fruit water with the right amount of ice, sweet waitress. The best quesadilla I had in Mexico. One of the best tuna tatakis. The three sauces with Mahi Mahi were mild to allow the pure taste of the fish while distinct to allow their taste as well. The lime cake was naturally sweet and tender. All was pure in how it looked and how it tasted and very enjoyable place and its people.
This spot serves legit food from the interior of Mexico, one homemade tortilla at a time. Quesadillas de huitlacoche. Simple, delicate, unreal. The salad is creative and fresh with a bright dressing. Fresh goat cheese, always welcome. Shrimp tacos are balanced. Costilla tacos are rich and messy in the best way. The bar is creative and refreshing, built on regional ingredients. An ice-cold Mexican IPA it’s gently appreciated The music has a little dislexia. One minute Maritza Rodríguez (1979), the next Aniceto Molina cumbia. Confusing..
You can’t miss this spot if you come to puerto. The service is the best we’ve had since we got to Oaxaca. The dishes are full of nice flavors! Mexican cuisine with a modern twist. And the cocktails, wau!
Excellent place for a special dinner in Puerto Escondido. The food is delicious with a lot attention to detail - especially the seafood stuffed poblano pepper!! Also the cocktails are great. The price is higher than the average in Puerto Escondido, but it's totally worth it. Also the atmosphere is great with dark lights and music in the perfect volume.
First off Miguel was the best server. He was very patient with our Spanish and gave us some great recommendations. We’ve been here twice now and each experience was perfect. The food is reasonably priced and filling. They have a drink on their menu called the Tepachito, get it. It’s the most refreshing beverage I’ve ever had. Also their house mezcal with chapulines and salts are so damn good. We got the tlayudas and aguachile one night and the pulpo and huitlacoche tostado the other night. Delicious. Great ambiance and vibe. Love that they are serving traditional Mexican dishes, some with a twist. If you want refined Mexican food, this is your place. While there is a lot of great Mexican food here in Puerto Escondido, it won’t be in such a beautiful restaurant like this or with of great of service. As far as best Mexican restaurants in town, this wins by a large margin. There are nicer restaurants in town but they are serving more European food. The adherence to Mexican tradition makes Atarraya shine.

By far the best value in Puerto Escondido. 5 star experience.
Simply incredible. This place has great food for sure but the people that work there make it special. Top notch service! Long story short; go! Very very well deserving of its spot in Michelin Guide.
Creative dishes, fun live music, beautiful restaurant. Definitely would recommend getting a reservation during your stay if you are looking for a slightly more upscale experience than what you’ll find on the main strip.
5 stars are not enough. First of all: the ambience is awesome. Like sitting outside under a (literally) tree, very intimate. Cool music. It is lively but not loud. Away from the party crowd. But also not stiff. Next: service. So, so friendly and welcoming. We felt at home right after we stepped in. Most important: food. Wow! Big, big surprise. We expected „just“ Mexican style food. Came along: Mexican food with twists somehow. Really well done and surprising, muy muy rico! Meat was supertender, potato puree had something in it, that was just delicious (beyond butter). My absolute favorite: the aguachile de Cameron. The salsa is not from this earth. Try the octopus as well: super tender, crispy. We are leaving very very happy. Would always come again, if we would stay in PE. We had to „complain“ about a little thing (don’t know how to say it, critical constructivism?!) but staff reacted promptly and absolutely professional. So I won’t tell, what happened. I am sure, it won’t happen again and it wasn’t that bad. Don’t worry. Just have a wonderful very special evening. Only thing: I wish, you guys had a tasting menu! It would be awesome to try as much as we can.
It’s an amazing experience all around. The food and cocktails are exceptional and the design and vibe is perfect. Everyone who works there is very kind and knowledgable, and it was run so smoothly on a night when it was totally full. Very relaxing. Shout out to the amazing live musicians. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. And yet it’s totally comfortable and not pretentious at all. Make a res and go.
We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food was truly great — you can really taste the quality in every dish. It’s clear they use fresh, local products, and that makes such a difference in flavor and overall experience. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is also incredibly cozy and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable right away, whether you’re coming for a relaxed dinner or a special evening. Definitely a spot worth visiting!

This is a a review of two visits. 2nd visit 26 January 2024. Came Back again on a Friday night. Very different vibe- Live music band of three persons but unfortunately the ambience was some what disrupted by the very large table of over 10 Person at the entrance of the restaurant. This time the food same quickly. Starters In 20mins and mains in 40. We were done in - bit more than one hour. The prawn tacos was not as good as the first time and the cauliflower was not as charred as the first- less intense taste. The chilli with seafood which come with rice and black beans with steamed Tacos was nice. The boiled then battered and fried octopus with potato mash was nice but small pieces of octopus tentacles. Service was amazing this time which proves that the first visit service issues was very much a temporary issue. 1st visit: 23 January 2024. Amazing food ( cauliflower and prawn tacos and dorado) unfortunately it took an hour to get ours starters and 2 hours before mains and 2.5 hours by desert. This was due to reduction in staff both Waitering and in the kitchen. So be aware that you could in for a very slow meal! Beautiful open air interior with a beautifully lite bar at one end and plants and a tree at the other end. Very nice well balanced gin martini and freshly made lemonade. The complimentary nachos with two suave- red and green were excellent. The red sauce was chilli, corriander and tomatoes and the green was chilli and peppers. The 3 tacos which took an hour to arrive- The prawn and cauliflower tacos were excellent. The fish tacos was good. The Quasedillas de huiltahoche 1 -mushroom , cheese was average. The dorado ie maki maki strips with colourful puree of beetroot , sweet potato and another veg was excellent. There was only two options for desert and they had run out of the chocolate so took the other which was below average. Service was ok, was running around quite a bit-They were also short . We had complimentary mezcal for the wait which was good of the staff, and they apologised for the wait.
Vibes were high, dog-friendly (always a huge plus), and the food was solid. For a Michelin-recommended spot, the service could’ve been a bit more animated — but overall, I’d still highly recommend
Great atmosphere and building. The best thing in the menu that we had was definitely the rib eye tostada. I would honestly go back and just get a million of those and drinks. And the mushroom quesadillas. Both were amazing. Great for romantic dates and for big groups. Wear bug spray if you’re a mosquito magnet like me and you’ll have the best experience.
Service and atmosphere was good. The food was good but it didn’t stand out to me. For a michelin recommended spot, I would of expected to be more impressed. The best for me was the starter short rib tacos and the appetizers are pretty good. Their main tacos are good but nothing to die for in my opinion. A bit pricey for what it is but overall had a good experience.
This restaurant expects reservations. We went in not knowing we would need one. We walked in at around 7pm, only 3 tables were filled, the rest were "reserved". After we told them we didn't have a reservation, The Host walked us in assuming there was a space at the bar but realized there wasn't any seats left. So she offered us a table where it was reserved for someone at 830pm. We had the Aguachile, it was okay. Not too much flavor. The short ribs wasn't as tender as I expected. The flavor was good though. The fish dish was decent. Overall, decent place but would be more of a one time visit.
The seafood tlayuda here (more of a fusion dish than a traditional tlayuda) is fantastic! Others dishes were OK to very good, although not particularly memorable. Cocktails were solid, and the atmosphere is incredible—definitely a beautiful spot for a date night or special occasion. I found the prices surprisingly affordable for the type of clientele they’re catering too, but still a bit higher than most places in Puerto.

We walked in on a whim not knowing anything about the place and were seated right away on a Thursday night. The restaurant played nice music, a bit loud, but still nice, the lighting was dim by candles, the table and chairs comfortable. The space is very pretty though warm on a mid-May night. The service was fantastic, the Baja style fish tacos were tasty and filling, the pork tacos were also reported as very good. My only issues were the very bizarre salad of lettuces and the lemon dessert was grainy. With a 20% tip included along with 2 drinks each and the 2 desserts we paid about $65 USD. I'd recommend the fish tacos for sure.
Was very excited for this spot but unfortunately it was quite forgettable. The menu is unique, varied and well-priced. However, the food was hit and miss - the seafood stuffed peppers came with a squid ink and white wine sauce; the sauce tasted no different to water. Similarly there’s a dessert billed as a chocolate mousse. It’s not a mousse, it’s a jelly. It didn’t taste of chocolate (like the white wine sauce, it didn’t taste of much at all). On the flip side, the tacos were excellent - especially the short rib and fish. The staff and settings are great.
Accidentally stumbled upon this place and after a quick online search it was reported to have earned a michelin star in 2024 but my wife and I struggled to see why. The dishes were creative but missed the mark in our opinion. I am a firm believer that seafood dishes, ESPECIALLY tacos should be served with a wedge of citrus be it line or lemon and they did not provide this with any of the 3 seafood items we ordered and believe me when I say that they really could have used a squeeze to make the dishes pop. both the shrimp and fish tacos were very underwhelming. The goat cheese salad was nice but I've had better and the catch if the day, though cooked perfectly and served in a tasty sauce was pretty good, could have used a little citrus and some sort of accoutrement to soak the sauce up with. I feel like fish dishes need a starch to accompany them and is something you find pretty consistently across the globe but was only served with 3 colored baby carrots. Did not bother with dessert as the 4 items we had did not give us confidence that they'd win us over with their sweet offerings which did not seem exciting anyhow based on their descriptions. The atmosphere and music were lovely but those don't do jack for my taste buds
Food was pretty good, although a little overpriced. The atmosphere was very inviting, but a little hot and stuffy. Wait staff was good, and friendly, but it took 15 minutes to get a cocktail, my food was half gone by the time it showed up. Some cloth napkins would have been nice, or at least some large useful ones, but they had tiny paper ones.
EDITED: Review adjusted from 1 star to 3 star to account for the fact that restaurant attempted to make things right by offering a free dinner for 2 on our next visit. However, we were leaving the next day so instead they refunded 50% of the dinner. While the NYE dinner was still a bad value even at 50% off, we appreciate the restaurant’s attempt to make things right. ——————————— The New Years Eve dinner was unfortunately quite forgettable and significantly overpriced for the quality at 2,500 pesos per person. The mushroom tacos appeared to be uncooked, grocery store mushrooms, thinly sliced and lazily placed on a store bought tortilla. The shrimp on the shrimp tacos tasted frozen and very fishy. The tortillas were once again not fresh. The fish was overcooked and the sauce was quite average. While likely the best dish of the night it was far from anything memorable and only the “best” because the tacos were borderline inedible. The desert was basic and something I’d expect to find in an airport lounge. All four courses were bland and lacked any basic creativity. This is quite disappointing from a restaurant on the Michelin guide and at this price point. One wonders if their normal menu is totally different in terms of quality, taste and skill but the NYE pre-fixe left a lot to be desired. Cool venue tho! Anyways, happy new year!

The food tasted good, but unfortunately it was served cold, so our expectations were not met (especially for a restaurant „seleccionado guia Michelin“). The service was friendly; however, we were asked to leave even though we still had drinks, as the next shift needed the table. A bit more sensitivity and allowing a few extra minutes to finish our drinks would have been appreciated. The cocktails were very delicious.
The restaurant is beautiful. The servers are lovely. We dined on a Friday evening and were seated at a table literally 1ft from the live band who were using an amplifier so we were unable to hear ourselves speak. We asked to be moved and thankfully were. We saw another table seated next to us who left due to the music volume. Unfortunately my food was cold when it arrived, and my partners food was improperly cooked (the fries were hard in the centre). Otherwise, it was tasty but overall I was disappointed because I had been looking forward to eating here and it was our last night of vacation.

Food below average. Prices somewhat high. Service below average. Overall would not go back, and would honestly actively advise against it. There are hole in the wall places that offer great value, need the support, and put tons of care into what they do. This place is very clearly the opposite of that on all points. Expensive, seems to be doing very well business-wise, doesn’t care too much about the experience, and mediocre food. The only thing very tasty was the taco de huitlacoche, which was delicious. The setting is nice, music was nice. But do yourself a favor and eat at a small local place that is cooking much better food for a much better price, and needs the support.
So, i am just confused on how this place got back to back Michelin stars. Appetizer was the salad, the greens whatever kind it was was the most bitter thing I’ve had in a while. You need to have the goat cheese and pistachio together in one bite to be able to enjoy it. The entrees short rib and sea bass. Short rib was just plain. Like no unique flavor. I honestly felt like it lacked really any seasoning. Then they had the same greens on the side with a little tomato. The sea bass, sauce was good. But the fish itself was chewy and not flaky had the consistency of like swordfish rather then seabass. We honestly skipped dessert even tho we were celebrating a birthday. No cloth napkins. I’m sorry to be harsh, but the other Michelin star place in Puerto was so impressive that this was just simply disappointing. I enjoyed tacos down the street alot more than this meal.
Expectation : New Year Eve in a Michelin recommended restaurant to close 2024 and start 2025 the best way Reality : probably the worst meal I had in 2024 and in Mexico. Not only the food was mediocre (tortilla seems to be from the supermarket at best for instance - see picture of one taco served - used in 2 courses out of 5 !) but they did charge 2500 pesos in advance for that ! I cannot describe how much of a disappointment it was between the overcooked fish in coconut sauce (which was too sweet by the way) to the millefeuille (it was not a millefeuille) with a dough completely burnt as a base. All in all, don’t go there, you get much better food in the street in Mexico for a cent of what they do charge there. They do not deserve a Michelin recommendation. Total lack of respect for the customer.
There was a big bug on my food and it took minutes and a call for the manager to get the right attention to the matter - waiter tried to say we eat bugs here its normal. What is this? Terrible terrible experience.
