Love visiting fellow roasters when we travel. Great coffee and conversation. The espresso is hearty with hints of lemon and currant. The Costa is clean with a sweet finish and the Ethiopian is full bodied. Glad we stopped!

LOVEEEE stopping by Monkey Joe whenever I'm visiting Kingston. I used to think Starbucks was the epitome of great caffeinated beverages (🤦🏾‍♀️) before I came here; how stupid was I! The owner with the blonde hair (I always forget to ask her name-- sry!) always provides good vibes whenever I stop by. Last week, during my visit, I asked her why the shop had a monkey theme, 1/2 expecting her to be annoyed, but she so kindly provided the backstory! Monkey Joe has a frozen coffee-type drink that I wish I could hook up to an IV in order to get my daily fix. It's SO good. Can't wait to come back!! -Brit

Kingston's only coffee roaster and oldest coffee shop, Monkey Joe Roasting Company is off the beaten path but is definitely worth seeking out. Wide selection of in-house roasted beans, fresh brewed coffee (variety changes daily), and expert baristas who know their stuff re: espresso drinks make MJRC a must visit...often! Atmosphere is warm and fits with Kingston's historic vibe. Two staffers recently bought MJRC from original owners. They have continued the policy of not offering WiFi nor sandwiches. IMO this is positive as it encourages people to enjoy the coffee and each other's company instead of going there to bury themselves in work. There are other places in town for that. I rarely have anyone else's beans in my house than Monkey Joe's!

Best coffee in Kingston. I highly recommend grabbing a coffee in a for here mug, an everything bagel with cream cheese, sit in the front window and catch up on your reading or people watching.

A dark roast lovers dream. The monsoon malabar, Ethiopian Harrar, Costa Rica Terra zu, and espresso blend are phenomenal. I am but a humble servant of their master roaster.

It’s Covid time and this heroic little coffee shop is open for pickup I was able to score a socially distanted table out front and enjoy my brew Beans roasted on premises Quaint decor(though for now no indoor seating) No WiFi that I know of 👍🏽All around

I’ve tried them all and this is the best coffee shop in all Kingston. Coffee is rich in flavor and super reasonable in price. Pastries and biscotti are delicious. Friendly chill atmosphere. And it opens at 6:30 before anyone else!

Moved here recently and just love this popular cozy coffee shop! The ladies are always so sweet. The other day the original owners Gabe & Kathleen who started Monkey Joe's came in and had a lovely chat with them. Wonderful place delicious coffee!

I had a pleasant experience at this shop. Employees were helpful and friendly. I absolutely loved the vibe in this cafe as well. Has a nostalgic feel with a calm ambience. Prices were greatly reasonable and food & drink were good in quality. This cafe definitely feels like a long time local coffee shop. Glad to have come across it & look forward to the next visit.

Great place with the smell of roasting coffee wafting from the corner, historic building with original floors and ceilings, relaxed amd friendly staff. We had a hot chocolate and a chai latte and they were both perfect - hot enough without scalding, perfect milk frothiness and no skimping on flavour. We drove through a number of places in the Hudson Valley and this was the best hot beverages we had by far.

I'm sad to say I've only ever been inside the shop twice, but as a testament to the quality of the available brews we have several pounds of their Jazzy Joe blend shipped down to us every six weeks or so. You can't go wrong with MJRC.

I remember when this local shop opened. The owner has always been very friendly to the younger people in the area. Spending winters inside the coffee shop was always especially nice. The owner would roast coffee himself. Between the warmth generated by the roasting and the amazing smell, it was always a great place to be.

Best place to get coffee in town. The smell of Freshly roasted beans gently floats down the streets is Delectable and makes your Mondays feel a little less mondaine and a little more manageable. Recommend the iced mocha with an extra shot for the senses.

I really can't say enough nice things about Monkey Joe's. They make my favorite latte and they have the sweetest staff - even when I'm in there right as the doors open at 6:30 am on a weekday. The atmosphere inside is casual and unstuffy and always filled with the scent of roasting coffee. These guys are the real deal.

The motto made me laugh and made me curious, I kept wanting to stop in and see what it would be like to "Taste NO evil". I finally visited today, they didn't have any Columbian up and said it would be a while, so I tried the Brazilian, very good, nice and smooth. I might very likely visit again if I have any appointments in that area. Starbuck's has nothing on this place and coffee here isn't as expensive. Worth anyone's time, I recommend it if you're in their area.

I just visited Monkey Joe Roasting Company for the first time. I tried their Papua New Guinea coffee. Delicious! I also purchased their Malawi whole bean coffee but can’t review this yet. They have a fairly large selection of whole bean coffees to purchase, some good looking treats to eat with your coffee, and a very pleasant and knowledgable person behind the counter. If you’re a big coffee drinker looking for coffee that is far superior to Starbucks, and you're close to Kingston, they are definitely worth a visit.

Walking into Monkey Joe's for the first time felt like walking into another world. With historic tin ceilings and monkeys in every corner of the building, MJ has an awesome aesthetic. I went in and ordered a mocha and a latte, both to go. The barista had a selection of alternative milks which was a plus as well. Reasonable coffee prices! Service was very quick, which given how busy it was was a nice surprise- the work of highly skilled baristas. They also have me a loyalty punch card, so down the line l can get a free coffee! Ample seating and the vibe inside was super comfortable, making it a cool hangout space as well. Overall it was a pleasant experience, with great coffee to boot.

The quality of the coffee here is unmatched, any where! If you have monkey joes coffee, it’s difficult to go back to drinking any major brand. The staff are friendly, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable. If you are visiting the area, monkey joes is a must for your morning coffee. I recommend looking at their seasonal specials as they are always fantastic, however I have a hard time passing up on what is affectionately called the spunky monkey. It is a frozen concoction that includes chocolate, banana, and a shot of espresso. In terms of beans to take home I recommend the Sumatra, the Costa Rican, the Jazzy Joe (lightly flavored coffee with hints of maple syrup and cinnamon), and the hazelnut coffees. As for food; there’s always a selection of pastries, but I have a tendency to order one of the bagels. The atmosphere here is comfortable and cozy. It’s a great space to meet up to talk with friends, or get some work done. If your visiting Kingston for a short while, or a local that just hasn’t visited this place yet, just go! You really won’t regret it.

This place is great. The smell of fresh roasted coffee beans hits you right in the face as soon as you walk in. They have a huge selection to choose from and they really mind how they prep it for you. If you do a hot coffee like I did, you can pick drip, slow pour or French press for the brewing of your cup. The staff is friendly and patience, which is awesome when you have so many option. I'll definitely be going here every time I'm in the Kingston area.

I got a chocolate cream cheese gluten free muffin and a March coffee special, the Irish Cream latte. My barista was overall pretty nice, the latte was a little sweet but flavored well, and the muffin was crumbly, but hey, what am I expecting from a gluten free baked good? There are definitely a lot of monkeys, it lives up to its name, but creates an interesting and not necessarily positive vibe. There’s no wifi and the table I sat at was wobbly and the music was on the loud and annoying side. If you’re just getting coffee on your way to work and don’t intend to stay too long, this is the perfect coffee shop for you.

A small little piece of heaven in the coffee seekers world. Found this to be among the best in the area. Even though parking is not always readly available it was Pleasant experience. Friendly and fairly knowledgeable staff. Actually knew the difference between Arabica, and Robusto bean when asked. My hat is off to the Monkey Joe's establishment. Pretty cool coffee shop, with a wide range of coffee beans. I was a bit disappointed in the pour over process, it took 10+ mins and the baristas were just chatting and forgetting about the pour over while it was just me in there.

The ambience is great, the coffee today tasted good (house decaf you pump for yourself, in a real mug) although it wasn't really hot. Unfortunately, I went in there to work and there is NO WIFI. I had to get a to go cup and drive to another location.

The girl with brunette hair is very rude. But the food is good its just the brunette one doesn’t have any professionalism.

They wouldn’t replace my regular ground coffee after it was contaminated by the flavored kind that someone put in there. Very disappointed- I was a loyal customer for many years- since they opened. Below 1 star

I got a coconut cold brew originally and it tasted unexplainably bad. I asked if I could exchange the cold brew for a chai latte given that I only tasted it and the barista said “you can buy one” in a very rude way. The chai tasted like sour medicine and the cold brew didn’t even taste like coffee. Im very disappointed considering I spent money on 2 poorly made drinks. I recommend the workers taste what they are pouring before they serve.
