We shared the whole chicken and some sides between 4 people. The price was reasonable. The service was quick and courteous, and the food was excellent!
How could anyone be disappointed with this place? Incredible menu, incredible flavor. A huge portion size with a charming staff. Thank you so much Pio Pio!
Solid spot with really good chicken at very reasonable prices. The ceviche is good. The fries are good. Chicken was juicy and very tasty; Half a chicken for $14 is a good deal.
Everything about this place was perfect. They opened promptly at 11am, just in time for my lunch break. Server was attentive, food was flavorful. I got the Seafood rice and my aunt got the Salmon del Pio. The calamari was great. The sauce had great flavor. The Sangrias were perfect! I love the drinks. Will return and I recommend to anyone.
Long time neighborhood favorite for roast chicken served with a tangy garlic sauce. Spacing between tables is generous, staff is nice and helpful, and there's a pleasant track of Peruvian Andes music to set the mood. We chose to share their Peruvian Chicken platter, a $60 combo with a whole grilled chicken that melted off the bone; a large salad with tomatoes, lettuce and avocado; and a large plate of freshly made French fries. It's hard to eat on the UWS for $30 these days, and we had plenty to take home, so we thought it was a great casual meal option. Menu also features ceviche and Latin dishes like beans n'rice and yucca, skirt steak etc. A diverse group of neighbors, some elderly, gal pals, students and couples were obviously enjoying their meals, too.
The restaurant was impressive, with a welcoming environment, delicious food and quick service. The chicken was especially flavorful and even the salad - a dish I usually don’t enjoy at restaurants - was fresh and tasty. The maduros side was also excellent and the prices were very reasonable, making the meal well worth it. I’m already looking forward to returning! I couldn’t also forget to mention how delicious those hand cut French fries were….
DO NOT MISS OUT ON THE EMPANADAS. Seriously. The best empanadas I’ve had in NY. Filled to the brim, well-marinated, very crispy exterior and they also added some olives to add taste to the filling. For those who know what (Singapore-style) curry puffs are, these are like the Peruvian version, and better. They offer free delivery through their website (minimum 11.99). The food was delivered much quicker than expected, and the empanadas were still very crispy after delivery. I also tried the chicken. It was good, but not the best I’ve tried. The 1/4 portion is quite small (similar to 1/4 of a spring chicken) so you might want to order 1/2.
The bottom line is that this place offers really good Peruvian food! I went to another Pio Pio in UES that is more casual, and has cheaper prices. This location, which is going for a more fine dining vibe, charges a bit more for that even though you’re getting the same quality food. ($30 for a fish entrée struck me as about right, but spending $16 for a plate with rice and a moderate portion of beans struck me as high, especially since lots of places include at least rice with an entrée.) This place, the only Peruvian spot on the UWS, gets crowded and as a result it gets noisy, so at least for me, it’s not the kind of spot where you would want to linger after finishing your food. But hey, that’s just me. Judging from the crowds, Pio Pio is the go to spot for Peruvian food and deserves its fine reputation.
Perfection from food to service , always a great vibe here !! 😇 Drinks are made to perfection by their professional mixologists 😄 Staff are friendly and provide fast service Food is fresh and tasty 😋 try their different dipping sauces available for $$ but totally worth it 😊 Music is enjoyable Street parking 🅿️
The sangria was good, we got the half pitcher and it was enough for 3 glasses (as seen in the picture). For starters, we had the calamari (8 out of 10), I had the Salmon del Pio, which was a 9 out of 10 for me, and my wife had the seafood combination ( 9 out of 10). All the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and responsive, and the environment was clean and appealing. I would recommend to anyone that does not mind the bit above average pricing.
I was so happy to see Pio Pio survive the pandemic. This place is amazing. You must order the Matador Combo. Just look at the pictures to see everything you get. This fed three of us and was amazing. The chicken was tender. The sausage and fries were a great combination. Just amazing for the price point. Also, the sangria is great to share, though the price between a full pitcher and a half pitcher doesn’t add up (it’s cheaper to buy two halves than one full?) A must try if you find yourself near a Pio Pio. Service was great as well.
Rotisserie chicken has always been my go to meal when am looking to have something convenient and tasty. I first had this when I lived in the Upper West Side in the early 90s. There was a place that's was walking distance from the apartment and it was also open late so it was a delight. I previously reviewed that restaurant and have since moved higher in the UWS, though there are still a few similar places. Pio Pio is one such restaurant, advertised as " An Authentic Peruvian Cuisine Pollo a la Brasca "Rotisserie Chicken" with our famous Aji Verde "Green Sauce". Have only dined there once for dinner and then a few times have taken out. This is actually the first time I am having food delivered so hopefully, the order is still warm enough so it will not require re heating. I ordered their Juanitas Chicken, which as mentioned is rotisserie chicken which is marinated in mama Juanita's authentic recipe. It comes with 2 side sauces of Aji Verde which is a spicy Peruvian sauce made with cilantro, jalapeños, a little mayonnaise and Parmigiano. It is bold and bright, spicy and tangy and packed with fresh flavor. I also got a side dish of Maduros or more popularly known as sweet plantains. They are similar to bananas though have less sugar and similarly, are picked and shipped while green then change color to yellow then black as they ripen. So, I placed the order and the receipt mentioned it would take 43 minutes. Well, barely 20mins have passed and got buzzed that my order had arrived. Both plates were actually still hot. So, how was it? Amazingly delicious. The chicken was cooked just right and very juicy. It was not salty so perfect. The maduros were excellent as well with just a slight hint of sweetness. Rather than just putting it on a plate, decided to make a sandwich out of it, adding tomatoes, black garlic and ground pepper to the mix. It made the sandwich even more yummy. Definitely a great meal on a Friday afternoon. If ever you are in the neighborhood, check out Pio Pio. There are other branches aside from the UWS like Rego Park, Jackson Heights, UES and Brooklyn. Amazing food..
It's been years since I have stop by Pio Pio and in the last three months I had the pleasure to dine here twice. Happy to say both times were just how I remembered. Quick seating and fast service with really good food. I went with my go-to... Empanadas de Pollo: stuffed with shredded juanita's chicken. Always tasty but if I'm honest I can definitely do without the whole olives. Not a fan. Arroz Chaufa: Peruvian style fried rice mixed with chicken, bean sprouts, scallions, & soy sauce. With added shrimp for an additional cost. This dish always hits the spot especially with a heavy drizzle of the green sauce and washed down by a good passion fruit margarita. The portion size is also great and always provides for a tasty lunch the next day. Just A Note: Great for a group or a table for two.
I've been coming to pio pio since I was a child. this one isn't the absolute best one (rip pio pio 1 in rego park), but it's up there. the chicken was slightly too salty, but otherwise all the food we got was delicious. service was great, but the restaurant can fill up fast at dinner time. also keep in mind there's no ac.
Pio holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite lunch restaurants in NYC. But today my aunt is eating inside with her coat on. When she asked for the heat to be turned up, she was ignored and diners are currently eating indoors, wearing their coats, hats, and scarves. No solution has been offered. It’s currently 18° in NYC 🥶❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️😰
We order ceviche Limeño and was very tasty. Also we get the matador combo and the chicken is amazing, the best in NYC. Is a big plate with several sides perfect for sharing with friends (for 3 people or more). And we try also the maracuyá pisco and was sweet. The place is very crowded and looks really family style.
I been to Pio Pio, that Peruvian spot, a couple times now and it’s alright, I give it 3 stars. The food okay, nothing too special about it—kinda just regular, you know? The vibe not bad, but it don’t stand out much either. It’s fine if you nearby and hungry, but I ain’t rushing back for nothing. Could be better, could be worse.
