Some of the best fish I’ve ever had! I came to city Island for the day and heard about its excellent seafood, so I decided to give it a try. Here I had the lunch special for around $20 a salad, side, main, and some very good garlic bread. I had the fresh trout-the best trout I’ve ever had! Everything came in reasonable time and the staff was very nice. Would definitely recommend if you’re in city Island!

The food was phenomenal the service was great. It was my birthday and we decided to do something different, it wasn't that crowded we got a good spot to sit. Our waiter unfortunately I didn't get his name.,..a slim chiseled looking dude. The food came out hot and fresh. Great plates the food was served on. I was there 6 years ago and waited over 2 hours to be seated and still didn't get through, people came after us and we're seated before us. I said I would never come back here after that incident. The maitre D was very unpleasant and It was unusually crowded that night but the servers at that time looked like they knew the people and let them in before us. I just wanted to take my wife out for date night. Oh well that was in the past.

My man, Hugh Weston, took me there for my birthday week and we had great time. The waitress was friendly and we enjoyed 🍸 🍹 drinks and food. He had King 🦀 ♋️ Crab legs and I ate Penne pasta in vodka seafood sauce. The appetizer was 😋 delicious as well. All in all, it was an excellent evening. We enjoyed ourselves.

I was really annoyed that I called my order in and the price was almost doubled then what was on Google. I ordered anyway cuz I really wanted fresh seafood. When I got there to pick up my order. A woman apologized again for the confusion and assured me that I would be happy with the food. THAT FOOD WAS FRESH AND DELICIOUS! It was worth every penny. Will be back soon!😋

Great family owned Italian Seafood restaurant. Great selection of drinks, entrée, appetizers, etc... Have been going since 1st year they opened. In my opinion, the best on the island. Staff is friendly and hard working. Overall ambiance is great.

Drove up to City Island from Bay Ridge for lunch. Stopped here because I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Food was good service was professional & drinks were reasonable. Our server was Tara who suggested we get the lunch menu. Portions were big. In the area check this place out.

Amazing food the food, the portions are huge. Everything came out so great! The crab clusters are amazing. Carrot cake is great, recommend the pasta with garlic sauce don’t forget to get the bread!

Another Bronx/city island classic. Seafood fried/ baked/ grilled, lots of bread and strong drinks. Been coming here since I was a kid. Throughout covid to present, the service has been consistent which keeps us going. Great spot for large groups and is very popular for Mother’s Day, graduations and the like. Dinners prepared for two is well worth it ! Valet parking- make sure to tip.

I've visited Crab Shanty on multiple occasions throughout my life. Growing up in the Bronx, City Island was and still IS my favorite area to dine in. Crab Shanty is one of my favs on this strip. During my last visit, i came with a group of 11 people. My family and i had just gotten done baptizing three of the kids in our family. Naturally we agreed to come to Crab Shanty afterwards for a meal. We did not have a reservation and were seated with no problem. It was Sunday about 3:30ish. We were sat towards the back which is alot wider and spacious. We usually sit back there since we always come as a big group. The main entrance is holiday decked out. Love the decor and big Grinch at the door. The waiter was very nice. We had one main guy and about three different people assisting him as well. We were immediately given water and this amazing garlic bread. The amount of garlic is ridiculous yet so amazing. We asked for extra. We all ordered the Millionaire Margaritas. I certainly recommend them. The flavor is not bad and the alcohol content was great. Not too much not too light. Others at the table had coffee and sodas, all of those came out great as well. We had two dozen clams. 12 baked and 12 raw. Both were great quality and tasted good. We also had 12 raw oysters. They were huge. Fresh and tasty. Two of us had the lobster special. It was one whole lobster with two baked clams and two broiled shrimp. I also had it with salad and baked potato. The have a number of sides to choose from, i believe they were rice, pasta and vegetables. The lobster was cooked perfectly. The clam and shrimps were also good. I wish i would of ordered more shrimp, they were on the smaller side. I got my lobster stuffed with crab meat, highly recommend it. My husband got shrimp scampi and a lobster tail. For some reason his lobster tail tasted fishy. He didnt eat it. The waiter took it off the check and was apologetic about it. I recommend ordering the whole lobsters always. We had ravioli from the kids menu and chicken tenders with fries. Some family members orded broiled blue fish with rice. They loved it. The rest had a seafood special which had shrimp, broiled clams and crab legs. For desert we had cheese cake. Everything was really good. Overall we love it here. The service is always quick. The food is delicious. The prices are reasonable. I recommend getting the meals for two. Those are huge and worth the value 100%. This restaurant can get full especially during holidays. Any parties from one to 20 people can be accommodated. Maybe more but i would recommend calling for reservations. We were lucky to just show up and be seated with no problem. I wouldn't try this move in the summer time though.

Haven’t been to City Island in over a decade. This trip reminded me of what I’ve been missing. Awesome daily lunch specials like Shrimp done how you like it with crab legs and a lobster tail for under $40 bucks! To top it all off outstanding customer service. Edgar is an absolute sweetheart who tended to our every need, with a smile. I could hang out there all day. We also lucked out with a local street fair one block away with a variety of eclectic vendors with lots of little goodies. The entire experience was 5 stars ⭐️ I’ll be back for sure💕

This restaurant has cute outdoor dining with good food and drinks. I ordered the shrimp scampi with garlic butter linguine. Very delicious.

One of my favorite places to go. Their lunch menu is one of the best. *Update* First time here in a few years and the lunch special is still good. You get a loafnof garlic bread, soup or salad your main lunch entree and a side. After you're done you get the choice of carrot cake, chocolate cake or pound cake and a cup of tea or coffee to pair with it.

We had a great experience at the Crab Shanty! We did go for lunch and it wasn’t too busy. The outdoor seating was good, and the server we had was really friendly and helpful. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and it was delicious. And we ordered Joe V’s Deep Diver Feast for two - what a great bang for your buck! Snow crab legs, whole lobster, mini lobster tails, crab stuff jumbo clams, scallops and shrimp scampi. It was the perfect amount and variety of seafood. The crab and lobster were cooked perfectly. They did seem to have a limited amount of claw crackers, so I would say the owners should invest in some more! Everything was delicious and we would definitely go back.

This is my favorite spot. I mean you get the salad garlic bread and then your meal with a choice of sides. By the time your main course arrive your full. Lol. I can say the food isn't seasoned unless you get something boiled but we all know that not everyone can have salt. The season is available. They have specials available besides the regular menu. I traveled with a group of seniors on a day trip. Each ordered what they felt was right for themselves. I ordered broiled Scallops and asked my server to give me the garlic sauce, it was perfect. My friend had the fisherman's platter and said it was so much food. Before the meal started we had garlic bread. I had the Manhattan clam chowder with my meal. The Scallops came on their own platter and were cooked to perfection. After the meal we had dessert, I had coffee and chocolate 🍫 cake with chocolate 🍫 frosting. The server was very nice and answered all of our concerns with speed and grace. In my opinion.. this is a very good restaurant to bring a friend or family member for a memorable meal.

I came here on 2/18. We got seated fast. I got myself steamed crab legs with fries. When I got my food which was about 15-20 minutes later I was happy to eat. When I was eating the bottom of my face was starting to feel red and itchy. I didn’t think much of it until hours later when I started to experience shortness of breath and a sore throat. I took albuterol and that didn’t work. I went to the emergency room and they told me I had an epileptic shock from the crab legs. They gave me a shot of an epi pen. The next day I went to see my doctor. They drew my blood to see what I’m allergic to. When I got the results I was allergic to crab legs, shrimp and lobster so that what caused my allergic reaction. Although now I have an epi pen for in case of this happening again but the food was good but I have to stay away from those 3 things for a while.

During lunch time they have a 3 course menu. Lots of food. So delicious seefood. Pasta with shrimp is super. The ribs is good too. Very good service.

I had a 70th surprise lunch party for my father at Crab Shanty. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. We were able to dine in the garden room which provided privacy for my party. I was able to bring in my balloons, party favors and the staff refrigerated my cake. The price was perfect for the prefixed menu. The options were very fair for the price. The food was delicious. My host Fernando was absolutely amazing. It’s not an easy job to handle a crowd, but he handled all matters with a smile. I couldn’t ask for anyone greater to provide a service for us. The owner Michelle and her mom who helped me take my items from my car were so fantastic. I have been going to crab shanty for years. My father and everyone were so happy with the turnout.

This restaurant serves Seafood, get the surf (leave the turf at Orchard Beach), ask for Sisco, and look no further. I went here on a Friday around 5pm. The free valet parking made me feel relaxed before I even entered the door. When I walked in I was instantly seated and served garlic bread in the form of an Italian loaf (which I ate every damn bite of). I ordered a Manhattan (served in martini glass) which all in all maybe could’ve used a touch more vermouth, not bad though. The extensive menu offered a plethora of options for all seafood cravers (at a good price). I ordered the fried calamari which was served with wedges of lemon and delicious marinara sauce and tartar sauce which whilst dipping the calamari I did not get anxious about running out of. I also was provided a very tasty creamy New England Clam Chowder as a side option. I initially ordered the prime rib medium rare and jumbo shrimp, while the jumbo shrimp tasted amazing… I took one bite of the prime rib (served with Ajou and medium rare as ordered) and truthfully was not impressed, HOWEVER, Sisco (Who I might add is a very attentive server, never felt rushed, and service must have been his mantra as prior to even ordering the steak provided the A1 Sauce without me even having to ask) asked me pretty shortly after getting the steak and not only completely understood that the prime rib wasn’t to my liking, he was able to switch me out for a Lobster Tail that was out of this world, served with dipping butter, it’s been two days and I still cannot stop thinking about that lobster tail. I finished my order up with some cheesecake, which not to be redundant… was on point. Be sure to tip the valet driver on the way out (which I add I did not feel any pressure to tip)! The Original Crab Shanty, I shall return!

I had the $33.99 lobster special that came with two stuffed clams (whole clam). The special also came with garlic bread and two sides. For $13.99 extra, I got the lobster stuffed with fresh crab meat. I chose the following sides: a baked potato and a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. Dessert was included in the Special. I chose a slice of carrot cake. For a base price of $33.99, the LUNCH SPECIAL was worth it. FAVORITE FOOD: the garlic bread, which was topped with fresh garlic. LEAST FAVORITE: the clam chowder. I prefer whole clams in mine. The chowder had clam bits. I exchanged it for a side salad with blue cheese dressing. The dressing was chunky and delicious. For an alcoholic beverage, I had the HENNESSEY COLADA. It was divine. Tara was my server. She was friendly and did a fantastic job.

Our server was awesome and the food was good. She was kind, very helpful and patient. There was a valet person there who was not kind at all. I watched him yell. Although the place is super busy, you do not feel rushed to eat and leave. Great place definitely will return again.

I ate there with my adult son and daughter. We had the calamari appetizer, clam chowder, crab legs, fried lobster, steaks and broiled lobster. All of the food was pretty good overall. I enjoyed the clam chowder, lobster, and crab legs the most. The calamari was OK. Some of it was good and some was quite chewy. I would eat there again.

I love this place when I'm not hitting seafood city for a quick bite I'm am here. They give you ample good tasting seafood you usually end up leaving with a doggy bag.. Their garlic bread is the best.. I wouldn't buy any alcohol drinks from here though

Been here twice and both times were great. Split a platter between 3 people and still couldn't finish the thing. You get lots of food, totally worth it. If you want to Bing on some seafood then this is the place. They make some good drinks as well.

Unapologetically if I don't taste brine on seafood I am dissatisfied and disappointed. If I don't taste brine then I think the worst. Brine means freshness, means freshly caught. It is but a thin and ultimately crucial link to the Sea... Without it, I'm eating limp fish. Clams are by far the best though here.

I've been to City Island 100+ times and this was my first time there. It's an adorable little restaurant with sweet people that treat you like family. We had lunch specials and the portions we're still big at great prices. We didn't know until after we finished it comes with free dessert. I would definitely go again. It like being in a house that serves awesome seafood and whatever else you want. We had the king crab in garlic butter, seafood platter and veal marsala w/ linguini. Tip: there's valet parking when attendant is available and bathrooms are unisex

It was a rainy Sunday that I stopped for some takeout lunch. I thought it was gonna get the advertise special on the awning but instead I ordered a $50 lunch It came out quick Upon reaching home, we opened the package and here are some surprises. The bread was wonderful warm and the food was properly presented in a full pan. There was a small salad and the fries were still crisp after a 15 minutes. Drive home overall I will come here again, granted that it’s a bit expensive for my budget.

The atmosphere is relaxing. The food is great. The drinks were on point & they surprised me with a delicious chocolate cake with ice cream on top along with a candle singing happy birthday 🎂. I had a wonderful experience for the second time there.

These spots in City Island are usually a life- saver to celebrate loved ones if there’s no other place in mind. The food is a bit in the pricier side. However, you do get a decent portion. My server was amazing!

Anytime I’m in NY, I make it a point to stop by Crab Shanty, and last night’s visit did not disappoint. I wasn’t too hungry, but the $35.99 special was more than enough and such a great value. The special included a cluster of crab legs, a 4 oz lobster tail, fried shrimp, and a choice of soup or salad—I went with the Manhattan tomato-based soup. You also get to pick a side of rice, fries, potatoes, or linguine, plus complimentary garlic bread to start. The ambiance gives off a fun, ship-like feel, and I noticed they’ve even added a side patio for outdoor dining. Service was standard, but the food came out hot and fast, which I appreciated. Crabby Shanty has been a staple for me since childhood, and it’s amazing to see that even into adulthood, they’re still serving up consistently delicious seafood!

City Island is a Bronx stable in terms of seafood, Crab Shanty being a big factor. The place is a quaint and charming little restaurant that has both outdoor and insider seating. The outdoor facing the street let you taking in the charm of the island main street. Pricing is good, actually better then you'll expect, and once you consider the great food and portions you'll easily see that it worth it. The combos like Lobster and Shrimp for a little over $20 is insane really. The staff were pleasant, intensive, and patient. Food came in good time, and the over all vibe was calming and welcoming. Definitely a place to bring your family on a sleepy weekend at or after going to the beach.

First and foremost shut out to Cisco our server who is very friendly, engaging and gave a great breakdown of the menu and what kind of deals to get and good job On upselling the drinks It was my first time trying crab legs and they have a great deal offering crab legs shrimp and lobster tails. Absolutely delicious. I always have to laugh at the Salad but the creamy Ranch was good, the crabcakes. were definitely small but seafood is very filling. My gf Enjoyed her drinks & The best part of going to his restaurants in city island is that they are deceptively large on the phone. It looks small, but when you enter and see all these booze and we were in a nice private booth, and it was outside seating area as well, that looks very comfortable. Sadly, I failed to get pictures of the outside of the establishment but I can take pictures of the food

Came here yesterday for Valentines Day. The hostess said it’d be a 30 minute wait, we got in just under. The portions are worth the price! The snow crab legs were good, some of them were fresh and the other cluster I had was a bit salty, in an older batch kind of way. The Henny coladas were really good. They stuff anything with crab for an extra $13.99. Super delicious btw! Garlic hero is sooo garlicky in the best way. The staff were really nice, fast! It was worth the drive.

We went in a Saturday with a big group without reservation and they were able to accommodate us, but I recommend to prior reserve a table. The service is really good, they are very fast and gentle. The food was fresh, but underwhelming in taste. The chocolate cake is probably made out of a box. Excellent cocktails and service.

Service: The service and the wait staff were great. They were patient, took their time to explain the dishes and what was included, and had friendly demeanor. Food: I would not dine here again. The only good thing was the garlic bread. Even though the portions were large, everything else was lacking in flavor. Parking: Plenty of free street parking. I saw an attached parking lot but unsure if it was valet or not.

I just came from there today 3/11... I'm so disappointed, I always order there crab cakes, there crab cakes ar usually the best! Not sure what they did but they are horrible.... this is my 4th time buying it recently and it tasted this way. I kept buying it hoping it was a phase but I'm done with that. I may still eat there but never ordering that again. Also I think they added extra mayo, it was horrible and 2 times out the last 4 times my baked potato was burnt! And no more chicken noodle soup is crazy!

Enjoyed everything moment at restaurant and we loved boiled crab legs and shrimp!!!! It is only 30 mins away from Manhattan but it has "beach" "vacation" atmosphere :):)We created so much mess to eat crab legs but we loved it!!!! After all those good food, 2 of us were really full:) Complement Garlic Bread and pickles: Freshly toasted bread is always good and never goes wrong! House Salad: Usual salad with chickpea and olives (comes with entrees and you can pick either salad or soup) 1 Doz Mussels in Garlic Sauce: Could not stop eating!!! big portion and great taste. Snow crab legs and jumbo shrimp : broiled broiled broiled!!! glad we picked broiled!!! sooo much flavor in it and simple butter goes really well:) Our hands became really messy but it's required to dig out delicious crab meat!!!! Cannot wait to go back here!!! After two years in 2021, I went back here. Well,,, it was okay. But it did not live up to my expectation. So, i’m changing from 5 starts to 3 starts.

I've heard great things about this place but I was not impressed. The garlic bread was okay, New England Clam chowder was great. I ordered the whole lobster, crab legs and shrimps combo. The shrimps were great, however the crab legs and lobster was dry. Being that it's called crab shanty, you'd think that the crab legs be on point. I was kinda disappointed because I'm a big crab leg lover. Price isn't bad but the henny coladas are pricey and definitely not worth the price. Calamari was okay. I'm better off going to Tony's for my food next time.

I think the quality of this place has went down some. I love their combos though. Whole lobster, crab legs , shrimp 47.00!!!! Cant beat that. Lobster and crab was over cooked. Food presentation was void. Flavors spot on. Maybe I just went at bad time . Idk.. I have had better there. Wait was not to long, server was great

Crab Shanty… not awful, but definitely not earning a standing ovation from me. The bright spot of the whole meal was my waiter, Jay. This man could upsell a glass of water during a rainstorm. If I had a business, I’d hire him immediately and probably promote him before he even clocked in. The food, though? That’s where things drifted off course. They changed the seasoning on the broiled items. It used to have that wonderful oreganata seasoning, that was flavorful. Now it’s shifted into a Cajun-style seasoning. Nothing wrong with Cajun, but it wasn’t what I came for, and it just didn’t land.

I decided to come early Saturday before the crowd and the congestion. Haven’t been here in so long they still provide valet parking. They also have new Benches & Tables in the front of the restaurant if you prefer outside seating in the summer months. Providing customers with Ordering window for To Go orders. I got to sit in my favorite booth since it wasn’t crowded yet when we arrived. I haven’t been here for years and honestly couldn’t wait to enjoy my nice New England clam chowder. Yet it was disappointing not creamy and thick like I remember it also very bland and watery. We both had the broiled lobster special. Unfortunately my lobster was very mushy. The claw meat was stuck to the shells and wouldn’t come out which made eating it very hard unfortunately. The texture was off like who it’s mushy lobster meat it was just left very disappointing and left still very hungry.

My favorite place to eat in I am beyond disappointed.I have been a loyal customer of the Crab Shanty for over 10 years or more. Sometimes eating here 3 or 4 times a week. I used to love coming for the lunch special with the snow crab legs Originally it was around $26 which was great it's great last time I went which is about 2 months ago it went up to about $31. I went a few days ago and now the same exact food same exact portion same exact lunch special is $40 . I understand things are going up because of Corona ETC. But to raise the price this high on a lunch so called special is not special at all it is ridiculous for 2 clusters of snow crab and a few accompaniments. The crabs were overcooked as well this place really fell off! I'm going to start going somewhere else it is a shame because I have always spoke highly of this place and even supported them during Corona with getting curbside pick up and eating outside when they had the tent set up in the parking lot. island

What a horrible experience. We ordered food via door dash and stated no peas due to allergies. When speaking to Maureen “manager” she disregarded the issue and stated it was a “human error and what do I want her to do about it.” I advised her that It was on the receipt and how can the BOH staff be so negligence. This is the first thing any restaurant BOH should pay attention to. As well as any health concerns being brought up to the manager attention. Food allergies shouldn’t be taking lightly. Apparently Maureen did NOT care! She prefer to make excuses and be extremely rude and hostile. Great job Crab Shanty and the entire BOH and Management Team for disregarding food allergies!!

I haven’t been here in years and its definitely not the same. Food was ok, ordered fried calamari and got a mix of fried calamari and fried squid? Food was eh nothing special Frozen margarita was eh tasted the ice the most Service 👎🏻 I waited probably a hour for waiter to come to table so I can ask for another drink, people that came after me were served paid and left before me Definitely not worth the price I paid, will not return or recommend 🙂‍↔️

I personally wasn’t impressed by the food this was my first time going the staff was nice went above and beyond keeping the table empty. Maybe it’s a personal preference but the menu was a lot to look at and nothing looked really good everything looked bland that came out .. I only ordered mussels as I was very unimpressed and they was bland I had to ask for old bay . Imma giving it 1 star because I just think that wasn’t the vibe for me the bread was good I’ll say that

--- ⭐ 1 Star (Would give 0 if I could) One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We came in, were seated, and waited over 30 minutes—with nothing but salad. Everyone around us looked just as frustrated, also waiting on their food. When our table was finally served, only 3 out of 5 people received their meals. The other 2 had to sit and wait while the rest of us ate. I ordered the special for $33 and was shocked to receive just 1 clam, 1 shrimp, and a very small lobster that had no meat inside—just seasoning. I brought this up to the server, who seemed lost and unsure of how to respond. He pointed me to the manager. The manager told me the lobster only has meat in the tail. I explained that there was no meat at all, just seasoning, and all I could taste was the seasoning. Instead of listening or offering a solution, he just repeated the same line and walked away. No resolution. No apology. I’ve been a customer here for years, and I’ve never been treated like this or had such a bad experience. If I’m paying my money, I expect at least a basic level of service and food quality. Avoid this place if you don’t want to be ignored, disrespected, or served overpriced, low-quality food. ---

We spent 85 bucks through Uber Eats and the food was horrible. They literally gave us a salad with a whole plum tomato and one black olive, they didn't even try to make us a salad, crab legs was left in the steamer too long, the shrimps were not drained in other words, they were extra greasy. This is not the crab shanty I know, they have gone to the dogs.

A fly in our salad is crazy but what’s crazier is the managers reaction a slight chuckle after being told that we found a fly in our salad followed by “maybe the lettuce wasn’t washed properly” her offer was to pay for a drink which was insulting especially after being disgusted by a dead fly in our food that was almost eaten. The service was terrible our waiter Edgar only took our drink order and food order afterwards I didn’t see him until we asked for the check. When confronted and asked for a refund the manager couldn’t even be honest about her name at first it was Michelle and then when she let me know that “the owner doesn’t take kindly to threats” she switched her name to Morrine. Sad because I ate here as a child and would come traditionally with my mom over 20 years. Never again will I step foot in this establishment. I hope they find better management and staff fast before it’s too late. I will definitely be going to JPs or Sammy’s for now on.

It really disappoints me to write this review because I've been going to the Crab Shanty for 45 years. I took a friend for their birthday and it was the biggest disappointment. The lobster was dry and it tasted like it was frozen to me the onion rings that came with it must have been sitting on the side and then they put it on the plate as a garnish. I choked on it the waiter took it back and said here are some fresh ones that were just made. The pasta and the shrimp were dry so he brought out some others but it was the biggest disappointment I will not go back. I eat out every night the prices have gone up since covid and they blame covid on everything but covid is over and these restaurants are just cutting back blaming it on covid and raising their prices and giving horrible meals. Shame on them!

The staff was very friendly. The food was on par with a third-rate restaurant. The clam chowder was okay, but the baked potato was tasteless. The salad was poor. Worst of all was the spaghetti served in a plastic bowl. This isn't a shelter how could such poor presentation be possible!
