Great spot to get a quick lunch. I had pernil with rice and beans, only $11 and tasted great!
If there were more stars they'd get those too. Been coming here for 20 years & dont plan on stopping unless(not even gonna put that out there lol) love this place love the food & love the staff
Great food! In true Dominican style, they serve you like it will be your last supper on Earth. I had a lunch portion, and I could barely get it all in. It was pretty packed, and the server seemed to know almost everyone who walked through the door. That's all I needed to see in order to know it's a neighborhood staple.
I got a catering over for 100+ people and they made everything as easy as possible - good service, delicious (and hot) food, and easy pick-up. Prices were fair as well. Highly recommend!
I’m not Dominican, but I know good Latino food (my wife is from Puerto Rico). And this place serves terrific food. Hot and fresh and perfectly seasoned. Plus I have had Popeye’s prepared, dry Pastelles, and this is not that. It is perfect. Very cramped restaurant, but clean. If you find a parking spot close, consider it a miracle. Expect a line, but quick service.
I love this place. Not the largest, fanciest place but it’s clean and the food is delicious and fresh and that’s what matters. Great service, kind staff, I felt like I was with family. I ordered catering for Christmas. I got 1 small tray of arroz con gandules, 1 small tray or pernil and 1 small tray of chicken. It was plenty of food for 14 people and I still have left overs. Food was warm, fresh, and full of flavor! I highly recommend
This place came highly recommended by one of the locals ( my coworker) so we stoped by lunch, and they didn’t disappoint. The staff were both very welcoming and eager to feed us as soon as we walked through the door. The rice was a bit overcooked, but the flavor was 100% Latin. The mondongo was excellent, as was the pernil, plátanos and chicharrón. They have a steam table full of goodies for you to choose from. The price for 7 lunches was just over $100.00 and worth every penny.
Wish Castillo de Yaque was on Flatbush Ave Nostrand Ave Church Ave In every block in Brooklyn!!! This is the Best Hole in the Wall Restaurant on 5th Ave. When you 1st walk in, you can smell the Awesome aroma of Delicious Food. And then when you see the food, Ohhhhhhh My FREAKING Gosh!!! Their food will have your head spin!!
Ordered on a Saturday around 9. Delivery was quick. The Pollo Guisado was great the Pernil was a bit dry. As well as the arroz con gandules, still both good flavor (this could be due to me ordering late as it looks like their food sits out all day; it’s probably better during lunch but no excuse nonetheless) they were out of oxtails by this time else I would’ve ordered that as well. The plantains were good. Overall a reliable spot for Dominican food.
It was not bad in all. Not the best Spanish food but still really good. Good places are hard to find.
I was torn between giving 3 or giving 4 stars, to this place. It's important, that I explain. I've been going to this restaurant, since it opened. When it first opened, up until, the new employee (the female), who are operating it now, this place, was always packed with people, phone ringing off the hook, with orders. The service, was always great and the employees, were welcoming and friendly. It was a 5 ⭐'s. Fast forward, to when I last went there, a few weeks ago. I went in, with a friend and he ordered. The female there, was totally ignoring him. I figured that she didn't hear him but after a while, I realized that, yes, she purposely, ignored me. My friend turns around, looks at me and tells me, "she doesn't like me". I tell him, "this is no way, to run a business. Why would she be playing, with the owners business (her pay as well) just because, she doesn't like someone. I told my friend, "we're leaving, If she doesn't like you, then she doesn't like me" and it was obvious because, she saw that I was with him and she wouldn't even look at us or acknowledge that we were there, along with her face, displaying an attitude. The male on the other hand, welcomed us and smiled, genuinely. The reason my friend went to the female, is because the male was very busy. I have been around that neighborhood for 50 years and I have never, encountered a person, with such a nasty attitude. I don't get, why some people, get jobs, where, they have to interact with people but they're not a people person or have any manners or respect, with people, who are essentially, paying their wage. SMH. Other than that, the male is a respectable gentleman and the food is delicious.
Nice neighborhood place. No alcohol but nice Central American fare. They have platters that are good bang for your money and the offer a green salad as a side. You can choose the rice and beans too. The salmon was good quality but overcooked, make sure you ask for a medium rare if that's what you like. Pork ribs are excellent and the liver with onions is cooked upon request. There are also hot dishes to choose from from the food bar. Price is reasonable. Quality is good. Service is very good.
the food was really bad, and here was the worst food i’ve tasted. el arroz con gandules was really bad, really hard rice and flavorless. the habichuelas were bad, tasted ok but texture was off. i had a black coffee, and it had non dissolved coffee powder. my son got a coke, and the can was really dirt on the bottom and on top, also the sides were sticky and really nasty. THE FOOD IS TRASH!
I did a take-out order, everything tasted old and dried out. It wasn't good at all. It wasn't cooked well or fresh, whoever packed that order for me did not care about freshness or quality. They just wanted to ship any kind of meal and get paid.
Omg horrible horrible horrible the Cuban sandwich disgusting only some dry pernil and no pickles no ham maybe one slice of cheese. Tamarindo juice didn't taste like anything the sancocho not a fan the only thing that looks ok we haven't try it is the Maduro. This is not the first time last time I went in person and I asked for a chicken soup and when I got home if you see the chicken they gave I was shocked. Safe your money 27.00 dollars WASTED and that's the including tips but he was the only worth paying great attitude very polite.
I’m sorry now Castillo been around for years which is crazy at one point food was amazing. I got food from there yesterday and it was trash, straight basuda. Which I was highly disappointed, pernil was dry and the arroz con gandules had no flavor and was hard like it was the bottom of the pot rice or it had just been sitting there for a min. Very highly disappointed. At one point this was one of my favorite restaurants.
Food was not good especially for the price. One piece of dry pork chop with hard rice and some gravy. Good to try it once. Now I know to skip this place.
Worst place to get spanish food in the area rico pollo is across the street and is is way better the yellow bannas where old and hard the options of food where very limited the server didt have gloves on and asked him prior to serving my order if he was gonna put gloves on which he did but i wonder if i would of never asked him if he would of put them on people beware of this shady restaurant and Enrique Ramirez
