Last night we celebrated a friend's birthday at Cena, and everyone there made it so special. We had a beautiful night - great food, lovely atmosphere, and warm, wonderful staff. Thank you all!!
I hosted a party at CENA for my birthday, and it was wonderful. The food was delicious, the staff was so gracious, and they helped make it a wonderful celebration for me! Everybody commented on how beautiful and airy the space was! Thank you!! 💕💕
Cena has been a welcome and wonderful addition to the neighborhood and to Windsor Terrace! Great food and great service. I have tried many items on the menu and have never been disappointed...everything is delicious. Also had drinks and were great as well!
LOVE this place and the owners! Food and service is amazing and we've thrown two private parties here that rank as our all-time favorite events. You can't go wrong with this place. And they're wonderful with kids and large parties. Beautiful interior as well with lots of light.
My sister rented Cena for her 50th birthday party. We had an amazing time. Freddie and Frederico helped make the party seamless and made delicious margaritas. Maria met with us a few times to figure out what we needed, let us decorate and bring in a bday cake. The food was yummy and I can't imagine having had the party anywhere else.
This is hands-down my favorite neighborhood restaurant. I’ve never had a bad experience here and the food, drinks, and service are consistently impeccable. Guacamole, margaritas, and tostadas are particularly noteworthy and the general vibe here is just so warm and inviting.
I went here with friends after going to the zoo! It was a great experience and the food was super flavorful. I especially liked the taco carnitas and would recommend the quesadilla .
Great food & drinks and Carlos was great! Got the quesadilla and classic marg would def recommend both
Great local spot with amazing tacos! Highly recommended. And their margaritas are so great! 🍸
It is such a cute spot. Food and service was amazing. Drinks are great and the meal size are big. Definitely worth the money. I would recommend.
Fantastic food and service. I got the carne asada and pescado tacos, they were muy delicioso! My grandson really enjoyed the churros, he wants to go back for more! We had a lovely young server named Alyssa, she was very attentive and friendly! I will definitely be recommending Cena to all my friends in the Brooklyn area!
Delicious food, reasonable prices, friendly staff, and really nice decor and atmosphere. I live nearby and love coming here. When the weather is nice the outdoor seating is also really pleasant.
The tacos are next-level. Had the Tinga de Pollo, Carnitas and Shrimp, all excellent. Very pretty place, hanging plants and soft lighting. Great Mexican music but could actually hear each other. Highly recommend.
This place is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. They’ve had some major challenges since they opened, including the gas being shut off in the entire building, but have handled it with grace and good humor. We have enjoyed all the food so far—really looking forward to the breakfast sandwiches!
Wow, just wow! From beginning to end the experience of eating here was above and beyond what they charge! I ordered the Fundido vegetarian with zucchini and corn tortillas and it was truly out of this world!!! I enjoyed a tasty margarita with rainbow salt on the edge! The four tortillas with fundido I downed held me over and I walked off the meal at Prospect Park so satisfied!!!
Just recently I went to Cena on a recommendation. Being from Texas I'm always looking for good Mexican food. It was a beautiful afternoon, great for sitting outdoors. I decided to eat at the bar and started with a margarita. I noticed how nice and bright the interiors were and a great place for families. I ordered my lunch. Delicious Enmoladas with a great side of beans and rice. It was a great experience, great food and great hospitality. If you have the opportunity to meet Mauricio, he makes a killer spicy jalepeno margarita. I'll be back!
Love this place! Super friendly staff, good vibes, and amazing Mexican food that tastes homemade. The tacos are always fresh and flavorful, and the guacamole is spot on. Decent prices, good portions, and you always feel welcome. A true neighborhood gem!
I have been very excited to try Cena as I'm always open to more taquerias in the neighborhood! Cena definitely stands out though. My wife and I just ate there and were both blown away by the service, food, drinks, and vibe. We have to recomend the chile relleño and the pescado taco. Insanely good stuff, and that's coming from two Texans as well! 😆 Cheers!
Great place to take the whole family for a little celebration! They were especially great with the kids, treating them like valued guests. The food was excellent—especially the guacamole! Fun, festive music and friendly service.
Quick and kind service, outside seating was great! I got the queso, and my roommate had the quesadilla and they were great! Carlos was our server and he was wonderful and funny. We will be back!
Tacos, quesadilla, and drinks were very impressive. The atmosphere could definitely be updated via design or table layout. Only one server/bartender in on a Saturday night. He did great and service was quite good regardless of short staff. Would go back for a week day meal.
I really enjoyed this space! The burrito was filling and filled with meat. They were also happy to add cheese which was nice. I really liked the pico de gallo! I also love the classic cartoons playing in the background as music floats over the space at a comfortable volume to talk and to enjoy
Get the tortilla soup! It was excellent! One of the partners Juan was so welcoming and showed great hospitality. Really made it feel like a place you can stop by and have good food and conversation. Will be back 100%!
We’ve loved this place since it opened, a summertime favorite with plenty of outdoor seating and my lil one says… I love the food!!!!!! 😋
Every time I come here the service is engaging and so personable. The food has always been very well prepared and arrives quickly. i love the drinks and on a warm day their outdoor space makes you feel as if you're on a vacation. If you have not tried Cena please do it's a hidden gem!!!!
Went with our 2 sons to celebrate our anniversary and we loved it. I had gone in previously just to get guacamole and chips and I enjoyed it. My husband is a chef in the Hotel Trades Industry so he pays close attention to every detail. The service was fast and very friendly. The food was delicious and presentation was on point. Servings were just right and ingredients were quite fresh. The only thing I would say is that the quesadilla was not cooked to the crispy texture I prefer and the sangria could use a little more fruit like peaches and grapes. Other than that, we loved it. We were in and out in about 1/2 hour which I loved. Our daughter had gone previously so we decided to stop in. Since we live down the block, we will definitely stop in again. Love that you can walk in and order to go too. I look forward to them expanding the menu a little in the future. Overall, great to have them in the neighborhood.
10/10 the food was so good ,Carlos was such a good waiter ,the shrimp tacos were so good.i hate guacamole but the guacamole and chips were So good and so was the salsa ,the ceviche was amazing as well
Ooohh nachos + shrimp top tier! Drinks are great, grounded friendly service <3
There is no spot better to sit down and watch Brooklyn get covered by snow✨ This place is simply magical🥰 the atmosphere is equally magical inside too.
Went there for brunch on a Saturday. Nice outside sitting area, but as I was by myself and it was a little windy, I sat at the bar. The service was very friendly. They also had a good selection of Mexican beer of draft. The food was fresh and good. They make their own mole, so I may have to come back on an evening.
I have been waiting to shoutout @cenabrooklyn for having my favorite nacho dish in NYC! Not as heavy as your regular go to nachos and yet filling, savory, and you get your veggies (red cabbage) in! Perfect for a summer evening in Brooklyn! Also their tacos and cocktails are not half bad 😏 #Brooklyn #Foodie #yummy
There is no spot better to sit down and watch Brooklyn get covered by snow✨ This place is simply magical🥰 the atmosphere is equally magical inside too.🤍 Nachos are the best! 🥰 I had chicken quesadillas but should’ve gone with vegetarian option. Very big portions. Pineapple margarita was delicious! Fresh made churros also pretty good. Waiter is polite and professional. Bar sits available with really nice bar view. Definitely recommend for date night or solo outings
We had such a wonderful dining experience at Cena Brooklyn! The food was absolutely delicious—every dish was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff made sure we felt taken care of throughout the evening. A perfect spot for anyone looking for great food in Brooklyn. The music playing in the background was a welcomed addition. We Highly recommend!
The food was amazing, I stopped by with my friends. Carlos was amazing with the recommendations. The stake and the flan the best things I ever tasted. It felt like home with the atmosphere. I love when we can go to a neighborhood restaurant and feel like we took a trip to the home town.
First of all, the fish and shrimp tacos 🤤 muy bueno. I order a second round of shrimp tacos because they were so delicious, and juicy with tons of flavour. My husband and I paired this with the mezcalita 😚🤌🏼 so good. The service is great, very friendly staff. The music, the lighting and decor compliments it all.
I came here for the first time today for brunch. The service and food was great. My Huevos Rancheros was absolutely delicious and my Margarita was banging. The restaurant itself is small, cute and immaculately clean. They also have a spacious outdoor space out front. I will definitely come back to this little hidden gem.
Dinner for two was over $100, and that's without drinks! It's a bit pricey these days to eat out, but close to $7 for one very average taco is a bit much. The services were good and place had a nice vibe.
Very friendly staff, good service and very nice people. The food is ok, my main issue is this: stop using stewed chicken everywhere, please! It feels like cooks prepare it at the beginning of the day and let it sit all day long taking out only if needed. That’s dramatically implies the food taste! Food could be 9, but it drops to 3 or lower sometimes! Everything else if fine.
Charming and cozy Mexican eatery in Fort Hamilton. The drinks are solid and services pretty quick. The menu is pricey, but it's in you restaurant and I'm sure they're being hit with sky-high rent. The tacos are a bit blend for my taste, but I'm from the Caribbean in like everything spicy. But it still good nonetheless and whenever I was in the neighborhood I grab something new from the menu and there has been no disappointment.
Great tacos, great indoor and outdoor seatings, very nice staff and good service. Go on a Tuesday for a good deal or a Friday evening for the good vibe.
The food was eh. I ordered 3 tacos and the food was nothing special. I thought they were pretty dry and small. I didn't get any tortily chips. And my server was nowhere to be found. He took my order and then brought it to me, but then I saw him on his phone for the longest time in the alleyway near the restaurant. And I left a comment on squareup regarding my opinion (since it usually asks for that) so I said in my opinion how they were dry, maybe adding some sour cream, and I got back a somewhat (maybe not intentionally) rude response saying that they're not Taco Bell (??) Tacos and sour cream sometimes go together, don't they? I mean, other taquerias I've been to tend to have the works on their tacos, sour cream, guac, etc. So I'm not sure what to think. Maybe just not my type of place.
I was underwhelmed at the experience CENA offered both times I went there, especially for the price they charge. Unfortunately not the best place for someone with a vegetarian-based diet; their fajitas were just peppers mixed together and it cost over $25 (including tip); this is something I put together in my home for $5 and it tastes better. I hope that CENA re-evaluates their vegetarian options or at least updates the pricing of vegetarian fajitas to something reasonable.
We’d been looking forward to trying out this local restaurant. When we finally did have dinner and cocktails there yesterday, unfortunately we came away rather disappointed. Atmosphere was good, service was extremely slow (not even an acknowledgement of our existence after 20 minutes), and minimal and poor (we asked the waitress for a barcode to order with, she left to get it but instead of bringing it back, proceeded to wipe the nearby empty tables and never did) . The cocktails were acceptable, but small (6 oz glasses?!) We hoped the quality of the food would make up for these other small annoyances, but in the end it was just a notch above mediocre. Overall, the experience was underwhelming and overpriced. We gave it a solid “Meh”
I've been to Cena a couple of times in the past but the food and service was very off this time. The soft shell tacos I ordered didn't have and lacked the flavor that you think a carnitas and shrimp taco would have and very bland and different from the last time I was there! The server didn't bring any hot sauce or check in to see how everything was and very difficult to get her attention. For the cost of this dish you would definitely expect more. I probably won't be going back to Cena for sometime. I usually only comment on positive experiences but Cena really needs to step up their game.
A place with potential but lots of flaws. First off the seating is awful. If you aren't in a booth the chairs are painful to sit on. Moving on to the menu, they were out of: a few margarita flavors, the beers we ordered, empanadas... It set the mood for the night. Entrees came out first, appetizers came out last. Nachos were lacking in cheese,, chorizo was not good, chicken is the fajita was unseasoned. With that said they did do some things well. Shrimp and carnitas tacos were great. Quesadilla and tortilla soup was good, not enough though for us to come back as we've had better in the area.
The gas is on! They have potential. Like others have said the chips are rock hard, they're also under salted. At least leave salt on the table. We ordered the small taco platter (for 4), which came with two sizable portions of meats and a tray of toppings - and FOUR tacos tortillas (they did bring more when asked). There was easily enough for 8-10 tacos. I wish there was a little more toppings, we ran out of creama pretty quickly, when asked for more they brought out a tablespoon worth. The kids meal, quesadilla, was actually a great value and looked great. Service was quick, but pretty infrequent checks. Luckily it's a small space and you can stop them as they whisk by. I'll go back in a few weeks. Also nearly all the tables had "reserved" signs on them. And there were only 2 napkins at our table. At least bring a few more when the food comes, especially when there are kids.
Friendly efficient server, pleasant ambiance. It was nice that vegetarian chorizo was on the menu. My breakfast tacos were a little dull--not very spicy (even with chorizo and salsa), and all the ingredients had the same texture, nothing crunchy. So they didn't seem worth $12.
This was our second time trying to visit. The first time we came all the way just to be turned away because of a private event. A little annoying but I guess there’s no way to show that on google. We came back the other day. Drinks were good! Food was very average/ underseasoned and wait staff seemed like they did not want to be there. also HEADS UP- they refuse to honor Groupons that are well before expiration date. Overall 6/10
Tucked into a quiet little neighborhood in Brooklyn there are seating both inside and out. Our server was prompt and friendly and happy to talk up the restaurant. I take off points for the food as we prefer vegetable options and there are some on the menu. Unfortunately there aren't any in the kitchen to be served. We were told that they vegetables dishes don't sell well so they don't actually carry vegetables. My wife had a burrito bowl and I had a burrito which basically meant we're both having rice and beans for dinner. We did try the esquites which was very tasty and we would have that again. Basically if we come back to this place it will be for appetizers and not main courses.
Bit pricy for Mexican. Not a fancy place but the price tags are pretty fancy. Food is average, portion is little. I live nearby so I was hoping to find my go to place.
I’ve been going here for years but after this last online order, it may be my last. Aside from the fact that the paper bag always gets a hole soaked through by the time it gets to my apartment because they put the entree on the bottom where it gets crushed and leaks, the portions have gotten ridiculously small for what they charge. When I pay $7 for a side of “herbed rice”, I expect something more substantial than a pint of some white rice with bits of garlic in there. Very disappointing.
This place looks really nice from outside and they took good measures of social distancing for dining but the food is just ok. We had fajitas, tacos, guacamole and margaritas. Fajitas looked and tasted like they were steamed not sizzled on the grill and the only spice was black pepper and salt. Guacamole was so mushed that it was hard to tell if it was freshly made or not the taste was also not definitive. Drinks were good and maybe this what they should be aiming for. It is a nice place to hangout I guess
I’ve loved Cena for years but more recently it’s not as good. Went to breakfast there twice in last 2-3 months and the coffee they served was Instant Coffee! And tasted like it. I asked and they confirmed it was instant coffee said their machine is broken. Charging $5 for instant coffee? No - you just can’t do that.
Nice but expensive authentic Mexican fare with incredibly slow and strange service. They brought us the wrong food both times we went. Expect long wait times for drinks and food and for any attention at all. The steak in the tacos is like rubber and the mole is terrible but the rest of the food is very good.
The food was so so good but the bill was quite shocking. For a quesadilla, sangria and burrito bowl we paid $80. The cost of adding meats was not readily obvious, we did not realize adding a meat to our order would be like $8+ each. I would go back to try something now that I know the costs because it really was great
I really wanted to like this place, unfortunately found my dinner experience disappointing. Service: The service was incredibly slow and inattentive. They took forever to take our order and then brought out our entrees but forgot our drinks. Food & drinks: My $21 chicken quesadilla was a bit bland but greasy. My Paloma was good! Atmosphere: Tables were quite close together so it was hard to hear the person I was having dinner with. My clothes ended up smelling like food long after I left as well. Overall, found it to be too expensive for what it was, especially for the area. $50 can get me a better experience elsewhere.
This is a very nice place. It’s very cozy the seating area outside. My husband and I went here 2 times, one during lunch time and after around evening, sadly we would love to give it 5 stars however we are not sure if because of the restrictions right now they have lower their standards a little bit? The first time our tacos were barely warm( we had take out) The al pastor tacos were okay the best were the Barbacoa (beef as they have it in their menu) tacos. We decided to give them a second try and that’s why we went later in the day to eat at the restaurant however the quality was the same. Tacos were somewhat warm and my enchiladas had the tinga chicken which wasn’t bad but I am not used to having them like that. We will probably go again and give it a second chance. However the Margaritas are pretty good and also their Jamaica water and definitely try their esquites they where great!
The space is very cozy, and all of our food was flavourful and tasty! The reason I'm only giving this three stars is due to the very small portion of food provided for the family-style tacos that were advertised as being for four people. The meal was also advertised as including sides of rice and beans, but as you can see in my picture, they were very small condiment sized portions. There was also not enough of the meat for four adults. However, the food itself was very good as previously stated. Our waiter was fairly unattentive as we had to physically get up and go find him to get drink refills and more tortillas. This place has major potential and I'm hoping to return soon!
The Server at the front taking the orders is very rude. Perhaps he was having a bad day, but transference is unappetizing. The Tortilla soup was much too salty; hard shell tacos were not an option. The french fries too oily. The Mexican Street Corn Salad was tasty! The server at the bar who brought our meals to the outdoors table was pleasant. He made the experience less awful. His smile was visible even behind his blue medical mask!
Can’t cut it. Ordered a simple meal of tacos and burrito and guacamole for pickup. At BK prices, to say the least. Wait time an hour, understandable for a Saturday. Arrive 1 hour 10 minutes later, and the food hasn’t even been cooked! Seriously? Absolutely unacceptable! Order at your own risk.
This place looks super cute and I really want to love it because it’s so close to my apt, but I just can’t. The food and drinks are ok, but what’s really terrible about this place is the waitstaff, who are unprofessional and disorganized in every way possible. The one female server doesn’t wear a mask properly (not covering her nose), both male servers are dressed as though they rolled out of bed and came to work, and it appears that none of them are assigned tables so customers are constantly trying to get someone’s attention to place orders and/or check up on orders. Our orders were messed up and/or forgotten about multiple times last night! Shame on the owner/management for not running this place more smoothly, efficiently, and safely!
The outdoor space is picturesque and the servers are nice but that’s all unfortunately. Service is slow, mainly with a lot of ‘empty trips’ back and forth - we watched a frustrated couple be ignored and wait 20+ mins with finished plates in front of them when they could have easily been cleared. We waited just as long for most things. Food was ok, not much flavour. *Owner asked why the review came so late, I just forgot to write one before and remembered today.
Beautiful indoor and outdoor space with good lighting. My margarita was decent but the ceviche was one of the worst I ever had. It tasted like recently defrosted shrimp with no flavor.... which is shocking for a ceviche. I'd only come back here for drink and won't order food again.
I keep hoping this place has improved their food but it continues to disappoint. The queso fundido was a congealed blob with no flavor and the tortillas were stale. The tacos were okay, but for $6 (plus $2.50 for a tablespoon of guac!) I expect a more flavor and freshness.
The place is pretty cool and cool designed. But food and service… Ordered without Cilantro and mentioned it twice, Burrito came with Cilantro. Asked for salsa or a sauce because the burrito was the driest I ever had. Salsa came wit cilantro in it. The cheese in the salat tasted like nothing. The rice was also super dry.
positives: good outdoor vibe, right by subway exit, the cocktail was decent negatives: WILDLY overpriced blandest tacos i’ve had in a while weirdest queso fundido (neither cheese nor chorizo had much flavour) waitress gave me a weirdly hard time to order the kids quesadilla, like we spent ~200 bucks, and also had a baby with us 🤷🏽♂️ flan is my favourite dessert (i’m cuban), this flan was not the worst i’ve had but it was definitely ill-cooked (not creamy and porous), but i will say the portion size was large at least
Food was good but we didn’t have a great pickup experience and we had items missing from our order which pushed me to write a review. Our takeout wasn’t ready until 15 minutes after projected time, even though there was only one other table of customers in the restaurant at the time. At first we were told they needed to get more to go bags from basement, and when I checked in about this after 10 then 15 minutes, we were told that food was still being prepared. We had three orders of fajitas, plus guac and flan, so I’m not sure why it took longer than projected 20 minutes but instead 35 minutes on a slow day. Then, the extra salsas that we paid for were missing from our order. If it takes longer to prepare food and thoroughly check order, that’s okay, but restaurant should adjust quoted times and be more prepared.
First of all, the food was not bad, but the service was atrocious. We ordered two sodas and an appetizer and 20 minutes later the gal asked if we had ordered the appetizer… we were the only party in the restaurant so who else ordered the appetizer and she never even brought our drinks. Four people for breakfast with no alcohol was $130 before tip. Like I said, the food was fine, not spectacular, but you could do better for half the price somewhere else. And the female server definitely needs to find a new profession where personality is not a requirement.
Arrived at 8pm, the waiter took our order at 830pm, we received food at 915pm on a lazy Wednesday evening with 4-5 couples seated in the restaurant. Wait staff was completely negligent. Couldn’t be bothered to do much. Food was bland, under seasoned and far from the quintessential flavors you come to expect from a Mexican restaurant, even if they’re going for a more modern take the flavors are just non existent. Add to this No salsa, no hot sauce, nothing of that nature to be found at a Mexican restaurant, just not good IMHO. And I hate giving less than 5 star reviews, but you add the bad service on top of that and you just have a disappointing night out.
This place had an amazing vibe with its outdoor seating but unfortunately its food and service were pretty bad. The servers were nice, but the service itself was disorganized and slow. We had to wait 20+ minutes for our guac and chips to arrive. The rest of the service was just as slow. We had 2 different servers serving our table, and maybe there was some miscommunication between them. The food itself was disappointing as well. The pork in the al pastor tacos were dry, and the churros were likely fried with oil that was not hot enough, so they were greasy throughout.
My dinner there was terrible. I ordered a drink without alcohol and everything seemed good however when I tasted I feel alcohol on it. I decided to ask for the server if that drink has alcohol because I am not alcohol consumer and she answer: NO, IT DOES NOT. However she arrived minutes late and say: it has ALCOHOL. For me fortune I only drank 2 little sips which make me wondering: what happen if somebody it’s in a serious risk in that situation !?? That’s Really sad. In resumen: Poor experience. No respectful or any attention No consideration. $46.00 dollars for the worse service.
This review is not about the quality of food but the management of the restaurant. I live in the same building above the restaurant. The restaurant is playing music from 11 am to 10 pm. This music is audible at my apartment. On top of that, they had a very loud restaurant staff party after closing hours on September 10th. At around 12 am, I came downstairs and politely explained that they were too loud and asked them to be quieter. One person at the party very aggressively replied: "Who you are to tell me what should I do." He was drunk and had difficulties standing straight. He also showed clear signs of readiness to escalate the dispute. The next day, Saturday, September 11th. I came to the restaurant to raise complaints about last night with the manager. I was shocked to learn that the drunk guy from the previous night was the restaurant manager. He did not apologize for the last night and was very rude and disrespectful. He was saying: "What's your problem? You should think when you were signing a lease in the building with commercial space." I think it is absolutely essential that all tenants respect the right to quiet enjoyment of their neighbors, the right that is protected by law. I reported the case to 311 is does not look like they care. I want to ask for Windsor terrace community support to send a message to the management and owners of the restaurant. If you think that the behavior of Cena restaurant management is not acceptable, please do not support them with your purchases.
The place was great in 2019, but not anymore. What happened to it? My cocktail wasn’t good, three different tacos that me and my friend ordered weren’t good - the skirt steak taco had too much paprika and was dry, the meet felt old; they switched that taco with a different type of taco (don’t remember what it was exactly, I think it was Al Pastor) and it was the same thing - dry and tasteless meat. I’ve never had a bad taco before, even in very humble places. I ordered Hongos - not good either. Guac that came with my taco didn’t taste right. I ate my dish anyway and ended up with food poisoning symptoms. The place used to be amazing and I invited my friend there because I dined there before the pandemic and the place was great. We wanted to give it a real try and order more than just tacos, but tacos told us everything. C’mon guys, you can do better than that. It is my 2nd day of nausea and upset stomach.
Cena, more like CeNAH. Won’t be ordering from here again. We got delivery and it was honestly terrible. Every dish was so soggy it was inedible. The tortilla for my shrimp tacos was sopping wet, it fell apart in your hands. The taquitos were soggy and at the same time the chicken inside was dry. My boyfriend’s quesadilla did not even appear to be toasted, again soggy like a sponge. Incredibly disappointing, we paid $80 for inedible food. Save your money and make your own at home.
