Japan Village in Brooklyn — where you step in for culture and end up questioning everything you thought you knew about noodle soup. First stop: Gohei. The stall hits you with nine different noodle bowls — soba or udon, your choice… but choose wisely, warrior. I learned the hard way that not every soup and noodle combo is meant to be. The Gyusuji (sweet beef offal broth) is straight-up legendary if you go with udon. Go with soba, and it’s like putting a Prius engine in a monster truck — not built for it, my friend. They even throw in tendon, tripe, and konnyaku (aka devil’s tongue — sounds hardcore, tastes amazing). Bottom line: this place will humble your noodle game real quick. 🍜🔥 #japanvillage #brooklynfoodie #nyceats #foodhall #udonlover #noodleszn #foodieinthebigapple2025 #nycfoodadventure #brooklynlife #foodiefinds #japanesefood #nycfoodguide #foodreview #masculineeats #foodiejourney

udon/soba joint served gyusijii udon excellent! pick me up for some fresh udon it tastes like a pho but Japanese style with soy and also had the meats of different varieties and tastes very clean. when you don't want a curry or a ramen, this one hit the spot

It has changed, but is still good. I remember coming here shopping and having to stop at this place for Ramen. It became the obligatory Christmas shopping routine every year. I’m not sure if the chef changed but the ramen is not exactly the same. The flavors I remember enchanted me from the beginning are not the same. The Vegan Ramen was always my favorite and right now it feels is missing that Umami flavor I used to make me “need” to come here. I have to say is still good, it just not the same as I remember.

Amazing!!! I got the niku udon, with perfect tender beef, flavorful broth and chewy handmade noodles… honestly I wanted to get seconds and try their soba but was too stuffed from the huge portions. Highly recommend! (ramen is from next door)

Shrimp tempura udon at Gohei in Japan Village. The udon noodles were perfectly chewy and bouncy and the shrimp tempura was crispy and delicious.

What a hidden Brooklyn gem! Tucked into the beautiful Industry City Japan Village, Gohei has delicious Udon for great prices. The vibe is great, with music playing, and a bar exclusively for Gohei customers. The staff members are lovely and the fresh pulled noodles are a delight. Go to Gohei! 🍜

Vibe is pretty authentic, the taste is quite good and authentic, and serves super fast. Be aware that they are street style so that means the food is not delicate. Part of my udon was completely stick together and uncooked. Portion runs small.

My husband and I came here for lunch and I got Sansai Soba and my husband got the Nabeyaki Ubon and we thought the food was just ok. My soup was more flavorful while his lacked some flavor but overall glad to try it.

Good traditional Japanese soba and udon noodles. The broth has good flavor and is lightly seasoned and also the noodles are nice and bouncy. If you want to dine you need your vaccine card. The service is self serve food court style so you order and take to your table and clean up afterwards.

The gyusuji (beef tendon with udon) tastes good. It’s very authentic Japanese street food. The beef tendon is tender and the broth is decently salty.

Mushroom Cream Udon - 7/10 The mushroom cream udon really hits the flavors spot on but as most cream udon's go, it gets quite heavy after a while and I find it difficult to finish. If you are for more heavy flavors I say go for this dish because my boyfriend really enjoyed it. I actually ordered the mushroom cream udon for myself but we ended up swapping meals. Mentaiko Udon - 8/10 If you want a lighter mushroom cream udon than this dish is for you. Mentaiko is cream udon's slightly less creamy and slightly less flavorful cousin but just as delicious. I actually enjoyed this dish more than the mushroom cream udon because it wasn’t so heavy. However, I do find myself picking at the mushroom cream udon because I wanted some mushrooms. Definitely wished there were more ingredients in this udon.

Food: 4 Staff: 4 Environment: 4 I got the mentaiko creamy udon and it was great! Just the right amount of creaminess and fillingness! The only downside is that the dishes are overpriced but that’s just location and NYC effects. There are dividers separating every 2 seats for Covid safety at the dine-in area!

Udon was good - al dente, not undercooked. Tempura prawns were very good. Not too excited about the seating situation, but not the restaurant’s fault.

Love the sansei soba. It’s a shame tho that you guys still serve all in plastic. Would love to come more often.

Tried Gohei at Japan Village. The karaage chicken was spot on — crispy and flavorful, exactly how it should be. The curry udon, though, leaned heavily on the sweet side, which caught me off guard. I wasn’t really expecting dessert vibes in my curry udon… but hey, at least now I know where to go if I ever crave noodles with a side of sugar rush.

My order was rung up incorrectly despite repeating it 4+ times, gesturing at the menu, calling it by it's assigned menu numeral, and referring to it by it's actual Japanese & English name. The cashier (husky south asian dude who spoke English as a 2nd language) did not comprehend at all, rang up a completely different dish, and then tried to gaslight me into believing I 'ordered the wrong dish' when the food came out. Look man, customer is always right - no one wants one thing and orders something else. Rather than accepting his mistake graciously, learning from it, and trying to make it right, he commences to try to get confrontational until one of the cooks in the back (fluent English) comes up front, quickly corrects the cashier's mistakes, and brings out the right order. (I still paid for the higher priced incorrect order mind you.). Udon was ok, but meager portions. Broth was salty, but not as salty as the cashier. Tempura was nice and crunchy. Note to management - Cashiers need to be literate and service oriented. Your boy was neither. Put someone else up front. Don't come here unless you feel pugnacious.

Our family came after school and after work for their promotion for free extra noodles per order. We placed 3 orders and told the cashier we would like to have 3 free extra noodles. The cashier took our payment. When the orders came, it was only 1 extra noodles. They said we didn't pay it 1 by 1. 😱 It the cashier told me. I could have place the orders 1 by 1. 😤 The cook explained the cashier is here only 1 week. His answer makes me think how well they train their staff or their cook.

I got food poisoning and I’m mad as hell. My peaceful sleep was interrupted by a terrible stomachache, vomiting, and other bullshit. You know the food itself tasted fine but now I’m sick so! 🤷
