Avis sur Haenyeo Brooklyn
Beautiful spot in Park Slope. This time around I only had a cocktail because of limited time. Our bartender was still training and he was so friendly and knew the menu very well to help make suggestions. My friend and I both loved our drinks, will try the food next time-smelled amazing.
First off, let me just say that the food menu is 100% full of winners - you will have a difficult time making a decision for what to order. Bring lots of friends or come often because you really should try it all. If you ordered something and you didn’t like it, it’s just your preference. The chef knows her stuff and is an artist. And being a Michelin Bibb Gourmand spot (congrats on another!), their prices are affordable. Now to the weakest part of the Haenyeo experience. The whole idea behind the name and philosophy of this place is extraordinary women. Remember this when you interact with the staff. Specifically, there was a young man (a family member perhaps?) who bartends and strolls aimlessly around the dining room when he’s not behind the bar making sub-par cocktails. It looks like he is no longer there, he must’ve gone to college or something, finally realizing he didn’t inherit the family gene for restaurant excellence. But still, pro tip: get wine or beer on the weekends and cocktails when a female bartender is there (she has been there since they opened). Otherwise, the drinks are flat, diluted and seem like they have all been stirred not shaken. They have updated their uniforms and space and look much more in line with the caliber restaurant they are. Hopefully they keep slaying and shining as I have just moved back to the neighborhood this year and would like to give them more of my money like I used to before Covid.
What a fantastic experience!! We entered with high expectations and enjoyed a meal that exceeded them. The food and service were impeccable. Starters we sampled included the expertly composed Fluke Crudo (which was refreshing and delicious), Gamja Buchim (tuna sashimi on a potato pancake with wasabi-infused sour cream!), Dukboki Fundido (an incredible internationally-influenced dish incorporating Oaxacan cheese and Mexican chorizo alongside thick Asian noodles) and Grilled Oysters (savory and delicious with butter and herbs). All were exceptional. For entrees, we greatly enjoyed Maine Uni Bibimbap (possibly our favorite dish of the night, absolutely delicious!) and the Bulgogi (some of the best I’ve had anywhere). Throughout the evening, we tried 3 cocktails: The Squid & The Whale was my first drink of the night, and the sesame oil and egg whites were a fantastic treat for my palate. Drink 2 was Seoul Train, similar to a Manhattan with a clever addition of plum wine. My final drink of the night was the NY Sleepover, a delightful sour topped with a Chianti float. The desserts are impressive as well — the Beignets were soft, fluffy, fresh, and impossible to deny even with a full stomach. The crème brûlée was a sweet and elegant finish to a perfect meal. Thanks to the kind and attentive staff, the talented chefs, and everyone who made our meal and evening unforgettable. Park Slope is blessed to have Haenyeo, but diners from all over should make an effort to visit this exceptional restaurant.
This is definitely not average Korean restaurant, it is so contemporary that you get hint of it's Korean heritage only by reading menu (for better or worse). The place, if I am not mistaken it is mentioned in Michelin Guide, but in my opinion worth a star. The food was delicious and although by the end I was so full I couldn't stop eating until the plate was clean. Kalbi jjim which is short ribs and Bulgogi were out of this world! Again I have failed to try their dessert, but definitely will make another trip to this place, hopefully getting chance to try them. The place is very popular so reservation is recommend.
My husband and I have been to Haenyeo approximately 3-4 times at least. We have tried different items on the menu. I especially like the Dukboki Fundido, Suun Dubu, Ojingo Bibimbop and the Bulgogi. It saddens me that they no longer serve the seafood bouillabaise because it’s one of my favorites. From the dessert menu, we had the beignets and the warm chocolate cake — both equally good. We’re not big on alcohol so we haven’t tried any of their cocktails. The restaurant was full every single time we were there and the space is not that big so it felt a bit crowded. But the service was fast and efficient and we didn’t feel hurried. We would definitely go there again.
I wish I came to Haenyeo earlier on because I’d hands down say this is the best restaurant in Park Slope. The vibe inside, the staff, and the food are up to standard with some of the best restaurants in the city. Some standouts are their kimchi and bulgogi but I really didn’t have anything that was below average. I 100% will be back soon, hopefully when people are in town so we can show them some delicious food. Would highly recommend if you’re in the area (or even outside the area and are reading this).
Damn. Solid 9/10. Food, drinks, and desserts are good. Galbi is so tender and soft. You can eat a whole bowl of rice with the sauce. Curdo is fire. The baked oysters are ok. I rather them be served fresh. We ordered two desserts! The staff were all friendly. My friend and I had a great time. For everything combined, the price is reasonable too. Very happy with this spot.
I recently had an amazing dining experience at Haenyeo, and I can’t recommend it enough! From the moment we arrived, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the perfect tone for the evening. A huge shoutout to Izzy at the bar—she was incredibly informative, attentive, and made us feel truly taken care of. Her friendly and professional service really stood out! Now, onto the food—absolutely phenomenal. We started with the Fluke Crudo and Grilled Oysters with Seaweed Butter on Brioche Toast—both were fresh, flavorful, and a perfect start to the meal. The Dukboki Fundido was next, and let me tell you, that sauce was straight-up crack—more on the sweet side than spicy, but still rich, saucy, and cheesy perfection with the chorizo and Oaxaca cheese bringing it all together. The kimchi was also excellent, adding just the right amount of tangy spice to complement everything. And to top it all off, we were treated to Sugar-Dusted Beignets—light, fluffy, and simply Soooo good! Everything about Haenyeo was top-notch, from the impeccable service to the unforgettable flavors. Can’t wait to come back—highly recommend!
We had a fabulous feast at this super comfortable little spot. Comfort is the key word, the food, the atmosphere, the warmth of the owner and staff. Our waitress immediately understood my egg sensitivity because she had one as well and was so kind in letting me know which foods would be triggers. Drinks were also excellent and unusual. Just a great time!
This place is absolutely amazing. Came here recently for a friends birthday and it did not disappoint. We ordered multiple appetizers, a couple of entrees, dessert, and everyone got a variety of drinks (I recommend Strawberry Fields) and literally every single dish was packed with flavor and deliciousness. I can't wait to come back to try the rest of the menu! Not to mention the outdoor seating is super cute with plenty of space between other parties. Our waitress was super nice (and hilarious) and even the owner came to check on us and he was just as sweet and hardworking. HIGHLY recommend stopping by here if you're in the Park Slope area.
Food is excellent but pricey ($110 for 2 and no drinks) with small portions. Service is courteous and prompt. We arrived at 5:20p but the place was full by the time we left at 6:45p. Tables are way too close to each other… especially in the back where we were seated.
The place is small and casual but still cute to dress up for, good date place intimate for a good dinner thats not too pricey. I got the school girl drink it was sweet bubbly and didn’t taste like alcohol so i recommend! We got the wings and seafood pancake. Wings were great seafood pancake was crispy but lacked flavor. We got the short rib and the whole fish. Short rib was tender and fall off the bone but the sauce was just oily drippings and wish it was thicker. The whole fish was fresh and lovely. Service was quick but we felt ignored by our initial server but everyone else was nice! Would i go back yes $140 for two appetizer, two meals, and a cocktail is not bad!
I came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and the place was super cute and cozy, and the staff was very friendly. The food in my opinion was not great, I'm genuinely surprised they are on the Michelin guide. I felt things lacked flavor and was just very underwhelming for all the great reviews I see. Overall it was a good experience but I wouldn't come back.
I’ve walked past Haenyeo a lot and it’s always busy. I was expecting a lot more based on the reviews, and it’s past mentions in Michelin recommendations ( particularly excited due to the new stars awarded to Korean restaurants/chefs in NYC this year) so the experience was quite disappointing. TL;DR Haenyeo does a good job adjusting classic Korean dishes to the American palette, but in doing so mutes away the edge and flavor that makes it special. The marketing is effective, but feels like an excuse to add upsell items, where the ingredients are forcibly tossed on top ( literally in this case). It’s like a tourist trap for those unfamiliar with Korean food, granted there aren’t many other options in Park Slope. Between the price, the atmosphere, and the taste/portions of food, it’s difficult to justify over going to Ktown. Mixed messaging - they have a lot of branding and material about being authentic while having a modern/ playful twist. It’s at odds as most of the menu is some sort of fusion via ingredient swaps. It brings a lot of familiar exotic ingredients from the American palette to replace less approachable ones. The owner has 3? Other restaurants around NyC and has built what seems to be a very financially successful restaurant in Haenyeo. I would give the other ones a try but I wouldn’t go out of my way. atmosphere - it looks inviting and lively on the outside. The white-washed exterior leads to a bar and restaurant stuffed to the brim with seating. It’s loud inside and the lighting was dim at our seat. The back is a bit dingy. Hard to hold a conversation, felt like a night club. Music choices were uptempo/upbeat. service - Staff was kind and quick to respond. Dietary restrictions were asked and accommodated, but communicating that any thing was done felt like an afterthought. It was busy, and the staff covered for each other. Attentiveness was not a high priority but I could put blame on the tight seating arrangements. food - good presentation, lackluster in flavor, forced in formulation, odd balances in quantity, execution was suspect. we ordered 2 cocktails, school girl cocktail and pepper margarita. Both were great but not my taste preference. Gave me high hopes going into the meal. banchan - no comments. Solid but we didn’t finish them. kimchi ( made with fish sauce instead of shrimp paste. Mild and sweet. ) braised soy beans stir fried anchovies We ordered apps Gamja Buchim, Dukboki Dundido and entrees Maine Uni Bibimbop and Suun Dubu. Dukboki came out first. ( vegetarian option is just to have the chorizo on the side as its its just poured on top anyway.) The rice cakes themselves were fresh, the sauce was sweet and lacked depth. The chorizo was also mild. A lot of thought went into removing the spice element of the gochujang. gamja buchim - The potato pancakes were crispy but bland. There was a thin slice of tuna sashimi on top that killed the crispy texture while adding nothing except to hide the small amount of crème fraiche, which also had no flavor. I also don’t understand when restaurants bring out 2 portions for 2 guests when the table next to them gets 3. The inconsistency bothers me when thinking about plating and price. uni bibimbap - presentation was great. I liked the creamy texture added by the uni. The mushrooms were a nice flavor profile, and the various elements were there but light. Ie sesame. There was a surprising lack of rice to bowl ratio. there also wasn’t much balance or flavor but the combination of textures made it my favorite of the night. Which doesn’t say much because I wouldn’t order it again. suun dubu - came with more rice than the bibimbap. The soup broth had good sea flavor but was spicy. Clams had some grit and there were shell pieces mixed into the soft tofu. Hopefully just an execution blip.
This place has good Korean fusion food (Michelin recommended), but expect it to be more western than Korean. All the dishes were good, but on the smaller end and I wouldn’t say any of them was particularly memorable for me. My favorite from my orders was the duck breast and the kimchi appetizer. Overall yummy and good environment, but definitely pricey for the portions!
