I love Café Le Mistral! Came here on a Saturday night, enjoyed some amazing live music and very good food. The duck was delicious and the service was excellent. Highly recommend for a fancy date that won’t totally blow your budget.
Check out this place for brunch before it becomes one of those places that’s impossible to get a table. The salmon tartar that they describe as their “house speciality” is impeccable. The brioche served with the eggs are fluffy pieces of paradise. Top notch service.
Went here for Christmas Eve dinner with my parents and had a lovely meal! Our waiter was super kind, knowledgeable, and all around good. Would recommend to anyone if this is in their budget.
We had a wonderful birthday dinner here tonight! We were a party of 5 and our night couldn’t have been better! For appetizers we had French onion soup, octopus, pate, escargot and for mains we had the mahi mahi, chicken, burger and duck - all were super delicious! We ended the night with chocolate lava cake and creme brûlée. Yum! One of our favorite aspects of the night was the live music - the musician was incredible (Bossa Nova music) and I highly recommend anyone visit!
This is the real deal. One of the best , if not the best, restaurant in Park Slope so much so that it's food and service it is competitive with Manhattan. Wine Lust (typo) , service and presentation. Is fabulous, with great live music in the background. Impress your date !! Anthony Bourdain would've approved
Went here with a friend and the service was impeccable! We felt very well taken care of. The food was also very yummy and filling. My friend and I split a couple dishes and they were thoughtful enough to divide the portions for us. We'll definitely be back!
We had a fabulous dinner this evening. The food and wine selection are excellent - a bistro menu executed very well - pate maison, grilled octopus, steak au poivre, couscous with wild salmon and tomato coulis and spices merguez amb sausages with steak frites. The service is professional but in a relaxing style. We really enjoyed our dinner.
If you are looking to escape Park Slope for a night and find yourself in France, then look no further. Attentive service, beautiful wine and a pleasant and romantic atmosphere, Cafe Le Mistral hits all the spots. The pate is flavorful and rich and the duck breast is tender and juicy. Instead of the strip steak they had a ribeye which was spicy and robust, exactly how it should be. Definitively recommend to anyone looking for a romantic dinner or an escape from the cold. Looking forward to going back!
We had an amazing brunch at this lovely French cafe so much so that we also held our daughter’s engagement brunch here. The service was exceptional and the food to die for!
Good food. Went for mother's day. Lovely menu. The staff was pleasant. Our waiter, Christopher was awesome! I would go back just for him.
I celebrated a milestone birthday with my family this past weekend at this totally charming restaurant. We were a party of 9, and from the moment we sat down the host Eric and his wait staff gave us impeccable service. We all enjoyed a selection of appetizers, the Salmon Tartare being a standout. As for entrees, my Magret de Canard was outstanding, succulent and tender. Steak Frites and Mussels were the other popular choices at our table. The live entertainment provided a wonderful accompaniment to a very festive occasion.
What a wonderful experience! Quiet and charming place. The service is wonderful, atmosphere is French country casual. A fella was playing the guitar unobtrusively. We could actually have a conversation while eating. Food and wine are an A+.
A lovely place for a slow breakfast by their huge windows. The staff was extremely helpful and the service was lovely. Food is delicious too. Would totally recommend the place and revisit with pleasure. Thank you, folks, great job.
My wife and I come here often for the escargot, mussels, hanger steak and a glass of wine. Great trusty neighborhood spot with french doors that stay open on warmer days too!
Fantastic neighborhood restaurant. The owner will treat you like family! The food is excellent and the service is even better. The desserts are simply divine. We’ve dined there twice with the whole family and both times everybody enjoyed themselves thoroughly, including picky eaters 😀. Live music is an added bonus. Highly recommend!
I can't be happier to find a Fine French Bistro in my neighborhood, my partner and I love this place, the food is delicious, no to mention that the owner is there most of the time making sure everything is good and working smoothly, making everybody feel comfortable, we do love wine and we appreciate his knowledge about wine, he can walk you thorough all of it. They often have beautiful live music and it creates a great enjoyable ambiance, service is fantastic and professional, they are very attentive and charming. We highly recommend this place! Can't wait to go back! Thank you.
Le Mistral is my favorite local restaurant. We started going there with some frequency during the pandemic. The food is excellent - dinner, lunch and brunch. But it's the service and ambiance that really make it special. Eric the Manager is the most friendly person and we so enjoy our interactions with him every visit. His focus on service seems to rub off on everyone who works there. The restaurant on is on a lovely corner - I particularly love the side street which is very green. Top it off with live music (vocal and guitar) - Joao Gilberto and other mellow sounding music - and you begin to have lovely get away not just a meal.
We didn't have a reservation but were able to get a table outside and had a delicious brunch. I had the burger, cooked perfectly! They have a really nice and fairly extensive wine list. Staff was so friendly. Highly recommend. However, I walked by a couple of days ago and they seem to be doing take-out and delivery only now.
I went to Café Le Mistral for brunch with my son, and we had a fantastic time there. The manager was very welcoming and gentle. The service was beyond excellent. The place is very elegant and pleasant. There was live Brazilian music, which made our time there even more special. The food was splendid. We are definitely coming back.
This place is amazing ! My husband and I have been here several times and every time the food and ambiance are the best we have found in park slope. The mussels are out of this world, salads and fish amazing. We have yet to have a meal that is less than wonderful. the owner and staff are lovely, they have live music .our parents come in for dinner and look forward to coming here. What more could you ask for!
Superb! Made my 5 year anniversary unforgettable. The owner says that he wants to treat everyone like family and he really does. I booked this as a special evening for my 5 year anniversary. Open Table messed it up a little bit so the owner did everything possible to make it an unforgettable night. The food is excellent. I have never had steak cooked so well.
Hidden gem. One of the best restaurants in the Slope and maybe the best French restaurant in Brooklyn. Have been a few times for brunch and dinner, food is consistently stellar and the space is lovely as well. Deserves way more attention than it gets.
The food at Le Mistral is delicious. Last night my partner and I went for an early dinner. She had the steak and I had the lamb chops. The lamb chops were tender and melt-in-your-mouth buttery. The steak was seasoned perfectly. The wait staff was just the right amount of attentive. They were always there when we needed them, but never pushy. The table next to us was empty, and they even connected it with ours to give us more room. We'll definitely be back soon!
Absolutely love this place, it feels like you're eating at a cafe in Europe. The wine selection is fantastic and the french fries are incredible (not surprising). The live music on the weekend is a perfect addition to the French ambiance. Can't miss this place if you are in Park Slope!
We had a really delicious Sunday brunch! Great food, great prices and great service! There is a lot of space for stroller for who has babies and soon they will install changing table in restroom!
I visited the restaurant with my best friend in the first week of operation. The food was delicious, attractively served and portions were very satisfying. In addition, the atmosphere in the restaurant let us feel like we were in a small restaurant in France. Also, our server Lulu was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We will definitely return once we are back in NY ;) I am sure the restaurant will be successful.
Café Le Mistral is our bistro, in every sense of the word. We love the food, the ambiance and the staff, who always make us feel at home there, and treat us like one of the family. Whether for brunch, dinner, or just a glass of wine, we love to find ourselves there. So when a big birthday was on the horizon, I had no hesitation. I knew I would have it there. They promised to make it a night I would never forget, and they lived up to their word. Their attention to detail was second to none. From table arrangement, to flowers, to the silver chafing dishes to serve the appetizers, everything appeared, to the delight of our guests, like magic. Everything was just as I wished--the menu was tailored to my taste, as was the music and the rosé champagne I love so much. The dessert was a wonderful Opéra cake which made its dramatic appearance at the end of the evening. Nothing was rushed. We were invited to linger as long as we wanted, and the evening and restaurant were ours for the night's enjoyment. If you want a party that you will never forget, look no further. They even offered me a gift box of chocolates and a card signed by all. Merci Eric, with a special shout out to Joel, the chef, to Anastasia, who is always there to welcome us with her smile, and all of the wonderful staff who make us feel special whenever we come. We'll see you all soon! Joelle
This place was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we sat down, Jim, our server, made us feel right at home with his outgoing and friendly personality. His wine recommendations were spot on, perfectly complementing each course. We had a phenomenal baguette that was dropped to our table...crusty on the outside, warm and airy inside. The escargot was rich and flavorful, setting the tone for the rest of the night. But the real showstopper was the 8oz filet special, cooked to a perfect medium rare with creamy mashed potatoes and vegetables. ...and the crème brûlée paired with a well-made cappuccino. As we walked out the door, we were already planning our next visit. A must-try spot for any French cuisine lover!
From the moment I stepped into this charming French bistro, I knew I was in for a treat. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, reminiscent of a quaint Parisian café. But what truly stole the show were their mussels - simply the best I've ever had. Each mussel was perfectly cooked, soaking in a delectably seasoned broth that I couldn't help but savor till the last drop. And let's not forget the 'freeze salad' - a delightful surprise. This dish, with its crisp, fresh greens and a harmonious blend of flavors, was a refreshing contrast to the rich mussels. The combination of these dishes made for a culinary experience that was nothing short of delightful. Every bite was a reminder of the chef's expertise in bringing out the best in simple, fresh ingredients. Kyle, the waiter, was the epitome of professionalism and charm, making our dining experience truly memorable with his attentive and personable service. This restaurant is a gem for anyone who appreciates fine French cuisine. I left with a satisfied palate and the anticipation of my next visit. In summary, it's a must-visit for anyone craving authentic, exquisitely prepared French dishes.
This place is a true park slope gem. I believe a new owner came in, and since, the place is a truly wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Every time my fiancé and I walk by we are so delighted with the beautiful atmosphere. We come here mainly for brunch on the weekends and it’s always delicious and the service is great. They even have live jazz on Sunday afternoons. The owner/manager is one of the nicest we’ve ever experienced. Very caring and wants to make sure you have a wonderful experience. The atmosphere takes me straight to Europe, and what is better than a French cafe right in the heart of park slope? :)
My wife and I came here last Friday for an early meal with our two year old son on a rainy early evening around 5:30. The owner and staff warmly greeted us and we were quickly seated. As we looked at the menu the evening musicians arrived and started to play their set. The atmosphere is really spot on what it is trying to achieve. The owner and staff really want you to have a nice time. We enjoyed a excellent bottle of Rose that arrived with chilled wine glasses. We also shared oysters that were not only huge but tasty - a real value. The escargot was also well seasoned and came with some delicious crusty bread. We got our son the roasted chicken which was one of the best chicken dishes we have ordered. He absolutely loved it. This place is a gem. We will be back.
A Mixed Brunch Experience with Promise for More: During a casual stroll through Park Slope with our dogs, my husband and I discovered Brasserie Le Mistral and decided to give their brunch a try. Our experience was a blend of highs and lows that has left us curious about their dinner service. The French onion soup, unfortunately, didn’t meet our expectations. It was on the watery side, lacking the rich, hearty flavor typically associated with this classic dish. The topping seemed more like croutons rather than the traditional bread, and the cheese lacked the fully broiled, melty characteristic that defines a good French onion soup. However, the burger was a different story altogether – it was impeccable. Cooked to perfection and brimming with flavor, it was the highlight of our meal and showcased the kitchen’s capabilities. Our server, a tall, white, young gentleman, added to the positive aspects of our visit with his charming and attentive service. Dining outside allowed us to enjoy some delightful people-watching, and having our dogs with us made the experience even more enjoyable.Despite the soup’s disappointment, the excellence of the burger and the overall ambiance have piqued our interest in returning for dinner. The promising reviews and the glimpses of potential we saw in our brunch visit make us optimistic about what Brasserie Le Mistral has to offer during the evening service. 🍔🍲🐕🌳
We spent New Year's eve at Brasserie Le Mistral and we could not have chosen a better place. Their regular menu is always fantastic and you can not go wrong with what ever you choose. On this evening, we went for the Prix Fixe special menu for New Years and it was FANTASTIC! What a great way to start the year! Thank you to all of the great staff, the entertainment, and especially the kitchen for always having such consistent and delicious food. If you haven't dined here yet, you are surely missing out! Bon appetit!
We were out in park slope and wanted French food so I booked a table at this place which we hadn’t been to before. We got a great table outside (weather was great for early October) and were near the live music which was an excellent French singer. As we sat down my wife said we could have been in Paris, it really has that feel. It only got better from there. The wine list is excellent and the food was unbelievable. We had escargot (one of the reasons we wanted French that day) and it was one of the best we’ve had and done slightly differently. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and did everything with high chairs, clearing etc, very good. I see some comments below about the manager and I think these people completely misunderstand the culture, this guy is passionate about his restaurant and you can see that. He’s watching all his staff and making sure people are served, wine is poured and everyone is enjoying their food. He even brought coloring books and crayons for our little one. This place is excellent. Would get 10 stars if I could.
Love this restaurant! My husband and I go for date night often for dinner and brunch. The interior is delightful and they often have live music. I usually have the Salmon and the Moules-frites. Highly recommend!
I visited this restaurant after proposing to my fiancée at the marathon, and it was an incredible experience. Our server, Jim, truly went above and beyond, ensuring we had everything we needed. The food was exceptional, making our celebration even more special. Highly recommend!
Had a lovely time celebrating my mother’s birthday here- our server, Flavio, was very attentive and patient, making our experience extra nice! The Steak & Frites were delicious! All in all, it’s a nice spot for something casual as well as a more special occasion.
Delicious and the best service ever! What an absolute gem. Steak Au poivre was to die for!
Was hesitate to go - the restaurant has changed names so many times. We went and it was outstanding!!! Delicious snails, beautiful cheese plate, duck done to perfection. Service was lovely. Place is clean and nicely done. Such a great surprise!!! We all enjoyed our mea!
What a wonderful restaurant and team! Let me describe how caring and special this place is: The week of a long-planned, outdoor surprise graduation party for my wife - it became clear that it would be raining all day on the day of the event. Three days prior to the event I then had to come up with a last minute, back-up plan and stopped in to Le Mistral. They were not open yet, but Al, the best general manager of a restaurant I have ever experienced, kindly welcomed me and my parents into the restaurant, speaking with us for about an hour. He sat with us, gave us a tour of the restaurant and event space, and even helped plan the new version of the surprise graduation party. Al is incredibly kind and thoughtful. The event space is gorgeous with beautiful light from the skylight, it was a perfect size for our party (about 50 people), and has its own private bar and small stage for a band! We had a 3-piece jazz band that fit very well on the stage, sounded terrific (no echo or reverberation in the space), and had all the convenient power access they needed. In addition, Al and Le Mistral allowed us to not only decorate and set-up the space the entire day before the event (with about 100 balloons, streamers and table objects) - but Al was also always available and helpful with any and all coordination leading up to the event, including letting us store items in the space overnight (to not spoil the surprise :) During the event, Al and Le Mistral provided a two-hour open bar with Al as the generous bartender, making sure the guests had whatever they needed. Al and Le Mistral turned what could have been an unfortunate, last-minute weather change to the surprise party -- into a memorable graduation party my wife and our friends and family will never forget (and couldn't imagine any other way). We are so grateful to Le Mistral and Al. Everyone that can, should make it a point to try Le Mistral and meet Al and their team. They are exactly what a neighborhood restaurant should be - there for your daily and special events - there when you need. And let me tell you - Al is always there! He must be the hardest working manager and is always there to say hello and welcome you in. Thank you so much again.
My wife and I saw the excellent reviews and decided to try it. Excellent ! We know French good as we spent time in Paris yearly. This restaurant compares very favorably. The ambience is much like Pastis and Balthazar. We had duck … succulent yet light. My wife and I tried numerous dishes each was terrific. Who’d a thought such a sophisticated , not expensive, dining experience in Park Slope.
I wrote a review of Le Mistral over a year ago for brunch, but wanted to update. They have gotten even better. They are by far the best restaurant in the neighborhood and worth a trip for those outside it. Everything on the menu and the specials are creative and interesting without being weird. A few nights ago I had a special appetizer consisting of arugula, artichoke hearts, pecorino, candied walnuts and orange sections in a lemon vinaigrette; followed by a special entree of scallops with pesto, eggplant and tomato tapenade and celery root puree. Everything was beautiful and tasted at least as good as it looked, unlike some places where subpar food is plated to look good on social media. I don't even usually like eggplant. Flavors were strong yet perfectly balanced, textures complimented each other, nothing was under or overcooked... everything was outstanding, including the creme brulee at the end. Their wines have also gotten better. Staff was helpful as always and the place is comfortable and pretty. It's not cheap, but worth every penny.
This restaurant is amazing. The food is great every time we come here. The wait staff are caring, professional, and attentive. There is often live music and all the musicians are incredibly talented, Angelo is there often and is never disappointing. The decor is beautiful, and well curated. The menu is small but deliberate and contains high quality food that is super fresh and tastes amazing. The manager is always friendly and is passionate and accommodating. This is our go to place for dinner.
I held a wedding reception dinner with 21 guests in their private event space in September of 2023. From beginning to end, the experience with the owners was pleasant. I communicated mostly with one of the owners initially, but after meeting the other owner, I was not disappointed either—both are lovely people and made accommodations to my needs whenever possible. • Private event space: Very reasonable rental fee, food and beverage prices. Large clean space with a Paris theme decor and large skylight opening. A sound system was made available for my playlist. A smart-tv was available for my video content but I chose not to use it. • Food: Delicious seasonal French menu. They were able to have food options for my guest’s varied food restrictions. They were open to making changes to the menu. They kindly helped us with getting a cake for the event. • Staff: Extremely helpful and paid careful attention to detail. My main take away was how pleasant, friendly, and accommodating the owners and staff were. I had reservations about booking an event because I had never done a large event like this before, but I could not have been more pleased with how things turned out.
I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is high energy yet sophisticated, romantic yet inclusive The live music adds to an authentic ambiance of a French bistro. I love the new renovations with touches that make you feel like you are sitting in the Moulin Rouge. The food is among the best for quality prepared food you'll get in the Park Slope neighborhood. There is an incredible wine selection as well. Highly recommended.
Beautiful place. Allan was a wonderful informative server. The carrot soup and salmon entree was delicious.
Recently had the pleasure of celebrating Christmas with friends at La Mistral Brasserie in Brooklyn, and it was truly a delightful experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a festive atmosphere that instantly put us in the holiday spirit. The menu at La Mistral Brasserie is a culinary masterpiece, offering a wide range of options to satisfy every palate. From classic French dishes to innovative creations, there was something for everyone. The quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite, and the flavors were simply outstanding. We have ordered almost everything from the menu and everything tasted flavorful and outstanding. My friends were equally impressed with the taste and presentation. The service at La Mistral Brasserie was exceptional. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made sure that we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was memorable. To top it all off, the dessert selection was a sweet ending to a perfect meal. We indulged in a variety of treats, including a heavenly chocolate mousse and a delectable crème brûlée, and special mascarpone with pistachios. Each dessert was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Overall, my experience at La Mistral Brasserie in Brooklyn was nothing short of fantastic. The combination of delicious food, festive ambiance, and impeccable service made it the ideal place to celebrate Christmas with friends. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience during the holiday season or any time of the year.
Food is good. While it is pricey, the quality of the dish + the actual serving size is justified to say the least.
Great spot. Really good poached eggs and lox. Excellent service.
Lovely restaurant with friendly staff and delicious food. We visited for brunch and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend the burger, it was juicy and the fries were some of the best! The roasted salmon was also very tasty and cooked perfectly. We’ll definitely be back!
I wanted to take a moment to express how seamless and great my recent dining experience at your establishment. From the moment I walked in to the last bite of dessert, everything was truly exceptional. The ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for the evening. The service was impeccable; the staff was not only attentive but also knowledgeable about the menu, offering insightful recommendations that greatly enhanced our meal and dealing with a large crowd is not always easy! Now, let's talk about the food - it's evident that the chefs in your kitchen are truly passionate about their craft. The ingredients were fresh, and the presentation was nothing short of amazing. Bravo to the entire team for exceeding expectations! Warm regards Kamila
Had a wonderful experience last night. I had the mussels and my wife had the steak. Both were ver tasty. The service was fast and very attentive. We’ll definitely be back.
Food and service are top-notch. Barmen does not just make great cocktails, he listens and adjusts based on your preferences!
Le Mistral is a great place. A long and nice bar, where you can dine if it is your preference. Great decor, wonderful glass windows. The food is excellent. The lamb chops were perfectly seasoned, tender cooked to perfection. The sides were mixed veggies and potatoes dophinoise. The duck and the mussels were amazing. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Desserts, the cheesecake and pecan pie are a small si, e if that is the only thing you are having but after two courses, it is the perfect size to end a meal. I recommend making reservations. And enjoy!!!!!!
Had a great brunch this morning with a large family party. Very accommodating front of house staff, with excellent food and service! Escargots were so delicious I forgot to get a picture of them before they were eaten, but they're a must have for those who love them! Poached eggs with hollandaise sauce were delicious, and came with perfectly cooked potatoes, and a lightly dressed salad. Perfect breakfast for a blistering day in the city. I'll be back! Update: I did go back, and it was equally as wonderful with only two people for brunch. Outstanding cream of mushroom soup. Like, transcendental soup. And the tarragon in the butter was worth dipping my roasted potatoes in as well. Everything was delicious, but those things stood out.
Food is truly incredible. Order the hanger steak. It may be the best French steak I’ve ever had!
Dinner at Le Mistral in Park Slope was nothing short of outstanding. The chef’s creativity and flawless execution shined through every dish, each one beautifully balanced and full of flavor. The service was warm, attentive, and made the entire evening feel effortless. The atmosphere strikes the perfect blend of cozy and refined, creating a space that feels both inviting and special. From start to finish, it was an exceptional dining experience that I cannot wait to enjoy again…but first, brunch !!
Seven of us from work went for dinner and it was absolutely delicious. The food was incredible—special shoutout to the fries and ice cream, which were next-level. I also loved the generous bread and butter (always a win!). The staff were all so kind, and our waiter was incredibly professional and friendly—just an all-around great experience. I was the one who picked the restaurant, so I was a little nervous… but it ended up being a big hit! I even got complimented on the vibe and atmosphere. Highly recommend for a cozy, delicious night out!
Brasserie Le Mistral – A True Gem in Park Slope Brasserie Le Mistral is hands down my go-to spot in Park Slope. The food is consistently excellent—on my last visit, I had the duck, which was cooked to perfection. Every bite was rich, flavorful, and memorable. The restaurant itself transports you straight to France, with a design and ambiance that feels both authentic and charming. It’s warm, welcoming, and has that rare neighborhood feel that makes you want to return again and again. But what truly sets Brasserie Le Mistral apart is Arthur, the manager. He’s not just running the show—he's part of the experience. Personable, attentive, and genuinely kind, Arthur will often sit down and chat with guests, making everyone feel like family. Honestly, if Arthur’s not there, I’m not going! The desserts are just as fantastic as the main courses, and Arthur’s generous spirit even extends to the wine—don’t be surprised if your glass gets a friendly little top-up. I love this place so much that I’ll be celebrating my 75th birthday here with family this Tuesday. It’s that special.
Had a wonderful Saturday brunch at Mistral in Brooklyn. The coffee was excellent, and the French pastries were just as good—flaky, buttery, and fresh. We ended with amazing mimosas, the perfect touch to a relaxing morning. One of the best French spots I’ve been to in Brooklyn. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a cozy place with truly good coffee, pastries, and a lovely brunch vibe.
Classic french combinations done well with no fuss and no changes! Always best to respect the chef's vision, since the dishes are composed after much thought. A nice place for brunch (my personal favorite meal). If Jose is your waiter, expect to have no complaints regarding his attentiveness.
Had a romantic and delicious date night here the other week. The food was scrumptious, highly recommend the frisée salad and duck. On Saturday night they had a wonderful musician playing French standards, made for a perfect ambiance. We will definitely be going back and strongly encourage anyone in the area to check it out.
An exceptional culinary and musical experience in Brooklyn. Our choice of three main dishes, including duck à l'orange, filet mignon, and black seabass, surpassed all expectations in flavor and presentation. The octopus and shrimp cocktail appetizers were also outstanding. Although the wine list is short, it offers excellent options for pairing. The Tarte Tatin deserves a special mention for its exquisite flavor. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff willing to advise on the menu. The live music, provided by a duo performing songs in English and French, further elevated the atmosphere of the evening. An unforgettable experience that I would definitely recommend!
What a lovely place with live music! The service is excellent, our waitress was very attentive. The eggs benedict we're cooked perfectly, the hollandaise was so good, with a nice subtle lemony taste. The croque madame was great but heavy on the ham. Everyone at our table loved their entry. However, we ordered a crepe to share and I would not get it again. The crepe was a little too thick and bland. I expected the chocolate inside but it was just a drizzle on top. I am looking forward to coming back here for dinner!
Lovely french bistro. The french onion soup is pretty good. The escargot is also a must try (if you aren't too squeamish about eating snails). The fries are very well done. This place also has live music most of the time. I think the owner is there all the time so service is well supervised and done properly. He obviously cares a lot about presentation and great service.
My first time here and the food was amazing! The onion soup was savory and delicious. I ordered the duck breast and black rice dish to say I had to stop myself from licking the dish is an understatement it was so good. My friend ordered the burger and fries. The fries were well seasoned and crispy and the burger perfectly executed. The waiter John was terrific! He was attentive and accommodating. The owner was in hand overseeing everything and supporting his staff. I will definitely be returning to try the the rest of the menu.
So happy we stopped for brunch this past Saturday. The tables are spaced out well enough on a low traffic sidewalk so everything felt properly socially distanced. The staff is attentive and the food was delicious! With the live music, it felt like a mini escape to Paris.
I recommend the muscles, they were the star of the show. Cheese board was similar to what you would find on an airplane, and the atmosphere/service is just decent, but not entirely worth the prices.
My issue relates to price. One appetizer, one salad and one main course, tip and tax = $101. No drinks. Its more than i would normally spend. The food was fine but not particularly memorable.
Great atmosphere that happened to have live music playing the evening we went. Staff is attentive and great with families! Food overall was pretty good. The steak Frites had a lot of flavor while the burger was only so-so. Definitely get the pasta
I really wanted to believe in this place. The food is overall delicious! The chicken is my go-to and the bread is so fresh. The service is generally very attentive and fast. The only thing I will say detracts a star is that on days when they are packed the waiters are positively overwhelmed. They try their best but they end up misunderstanding us. The other thing I’ve found a few times is that food tends to be just a little undercooked. It happened once with our salmon and most recently with the chicken. I’m not sure if that was all intentional but we didn’t feel safe eating it.
Our experience was a mixed bag. The interior and lighting had the French brasserie vibe and the live music is a nice touch. But the main reason to come, the food and drinks, were a little disappointing for an expensive French restaurant. No cocktails or digestives since they don't have a full liquor license. The cheese plate was proper disappointing as was the whole presentation of the plates. Missed opportunity to be great.
Got the croque monsieur, french onion soup, and the norwegian benny -- all turned out great & tasty. Happy to have this in the neighborhood
I was walking my dogs and remembering the good times in Paris with them. I decided I wanted an above average French restaurant. I have been here before but never reviewed the place. I started out with escargot which I expected to be served in their shells, but they were served in an oil basil sauce which was delicious. I went on to the burger with Gruyère cheese which was simply delectable. My server was so nice and I couldn’t recommend a French bistro more in the slope.
I wrote this review and the chef and owner came to my table and challenged me to come back at a different time and Ave the same meal. I took him up on it. I will let u know how it goes.. They don't clean their food. I'm crunching on the dirt of escarole and scallops. Clean ur freaking food!
A sad shadow of its former self. After reopening, seemingly under new ownership and definitely under new management, this restaurant has gone way downhill. The food, when they have it, is still very good. But don’t sit down before they tell you what they don’t have. On a Friday evening they had no fish, no pate (keep in mind this is a French restaurant) and no green salad. How can a restaurant that has grocery stores within a couple blocks run out of green salad? They also have only a few very basic desserts. Again, a high end French restaurant should have the classic French desserts and one or two less common ones. Nope. All very sad considering how good the old Mistral under the prior owner had been. Maybe Park Slope just can’t support a nice French restaurant.
Food was very mid for the price. French onion soup was very watery, and lacked flavor. Wine and beer establishment. staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is great. Interior is very French bistro vibes.
Honestly the service was good, the food however, I can make better at home. The carrot soup was the high light. We spent so much money for something we were not happy with, but everyone needs to get paid so it’s okay. I wouldn’t recommend the food but the wine selection is great for wine lovers. Overall not happy but maybe you would like it…
We had a delicious meal here but the service was almost laughably awful. We came for brunch on a very rainy Saturday afternoon. There were only two or three occupied tables, in addition to our own, in this large and pretty restaurant. I had Eggs Florentine, which were delicious. The hollandaise was silky and buttery and the little side salad and potatoes were fresh and well prepared. My friend had the quiche, which was also tasty and nicely presented. The problem was, once our plates were plunked down, the front of the house staff might as well have just gone home, they were so absent and apathetic. Our server just stood behind the bar looking at his phone the whole time we were there. The bus people just sort of roamed around or disappeared. Our water was never refilled unless we asked for it to be, we weren't offered coffee refills, a dessert menu, a cocktail, nothing. A small spill on our table went uncleaned up until we soaked it up ourselves with a tissue. You know restaurants that you feel like the staff is breathing down your neck, overly attentive, or rushing you out? Well, this is the total opposite of that lol. Although I liked the food a lot, I'm not sure I'd return because the total neglect really diminishes the quality of the dining experience.
Had brunch this morning and kind of surprised at all of the 4-star reviews. We were headed to the Sunday Market on 4th street in Park Slope and tried to get a reservation at Stone Park Café, but they were booked solid. Brasserie Le Mistral, only 2 blocks away was near empty, despite all of the 4-star reviews, and my experience may be an indicator. My brunch companion had a $24 burger, which was very good, and seems to be the going rate for premium burgers these days. It was very good, but not going to compete with the $26 burger at Emmy Squared a few blocks away, or Redhook Tavern, and many of Brooklyn's greatest. It was good, not amazing. My gripe really came from my order, also $24 for "duck confit hash", also very tasty, but misleading and off the mark significantly. According to Wikipedia "Hash is a dish consisting of chopped meat, potatoes, and fried onions. The name is derived from French: hacher, meaning 'to chop'." This plate had some very tasty veg, a few bits of pickled onion, and whole boiled or roasted potatoes. See the enclosed photo, it does not look like "hash", and it came in a broth. Hash shouldn't have broth. And really, if you serve a broth, there should also be something to soak it up with (like chopped potatoes, or some crunchy toast), which there was not. And about the confit.... I agree with many of the recipe sites which define duck confit as slow cooked in it's own fat, and served with crispy skin. I love that crispy skin. Wikipedia describes "A classic recipe is to fry or grill the legs in a bit of the fat until they are well-browned and crisp, and use more of the fat to roast some potatoes and garlic as an accompaniment." YUM, crispy duck skin and crispy potatoes, but there was nothing crispy in this sodden hash. Let me talk a moment about portion size. Potatoes are one of the low food-cost items in the kitchen, and while eggs were VERY expensive for a few months the price has really come down. For $24 I'd like a second egg, and I finished my meal ready to go find a Hallal Cart, or 5-Guys. So, despite; Good location Friendly staff Tasty food The dining room is near empty on a beautiful Sunday at 11:30 with the farmers market happening a block away, and I think that misleading menu items and very small portions, which could be addressed with low food-cost additions may be a contributing factor.
You know, I really contemplated doing a review but after reading posted reviews I have to say the 3 stars goes to the Beautiful ambiance that makes you want to sit and dine like a French Lady & the bartender/waiter who was professional & ever so gracious. Yes, I agree the $$ doesn’t match the quality of the cuisine the French are known for AT ALL! …. Not breakfast anyways, perhaps I may give it another chance with dinner for I do enjoy a delicately tender escargot & robust & cheesy onion soup. Chef Den😜
Great atmosphere, great service, was totally ready for something special... And then the food was only pretty good. Not bad per se, just didn't match expectations. The steaks were good (excellent demi glace on the hanger steak), the fish was nice if a bit under seasoned, the onion soup was good but nothing to write home about, the oysters were good. The beef borgonion was very disappointing, however. Basically just some stewed beef in stock with carrots and undercooked mushrooms. Probably made in, perhaps, an hour rather than the time it takes to correctly layer the flavors of this dish. No tastes of red wine or lardons, no herbs to speak of. I mean, it was edible and all... But it wasn't even close to what I was expecting. Nothing deep, nothing interesting, just a stew, almost like a failed attempt at a classic Irish stew, sans Guinness. The mashed potatoes that came with it were the standout of the evening: they were excellent. Which kindof describes things perfectly. Some hints (service, atmosphere, a couple fantastic sides) that this could be an excellent bistro, but the mains were only decent at their best. Bummer. I really wanted to like this place. :-(
On entering during the early evening the reception was warm and accommodating with a well designed and bright atmosphere. I was offered the special of the day: filet mignon with potato gratin and vegetables paired with a bourdeux wine. I asked for the steak to be prepared medium well. The steak I received was medium rare at best and was topped with sauce that had a burned flavor. When the waiter inquired on my meal I shared that the vegetables were delicious but the steak was too rare and that I did not like the sauce. They responded with a meek “I’m sorry,” awkwardly shuffling away. When the another waiting staff came to gather my plate, they asked if I wanted to take the steak to go, and I reiterated that it was too rare and that I did not like the sauce. I received another apology from this person but no offer to remove the item from my tab or offer to try a different dish. I would have expected some care and consideration but it seemed like the waiters were avoiding correcting the issue altogether. I see the high ratings here for others and maybe the food they ordered led to a different experience. The wine I had was lovely and thoughtfully paired with what I ordered. But For a $85+ meal this place is just not worth it.
Went for brunch, the Caesar salad was not good at all. The chicken in it was dry and it tasted like they just recycled the unused chicken from the day before and re heated it. No idea why they charge $16 for salad that tastes like deli salad. They also gave my partner stale wine. Overall the food was pretty boring and overpriced. Music was good though
Beautiful place, wait staff and manager very polite & clean. So five stars for looks, servers and hygiene. But alas, we came for the food: Oysters had too many inclusions (dark spots in the shells) and didn't taste sweet but bitter. How many inclusions are acceptable I wonder? Well.... it's probably hard to get decent, clean looking LOCAL oysters these days? And the steaks? ordered rare...Chard black on the outside, lacked taste. We really like this restaurant. We wanted it to be good. Sadly, tipping 15-20% is the only way to get remembered or get good service in some places....Especially these days with 7.5% inflation. If you tip under 10%, don't expect to get noticed when you return, especially if it's busy. Even if the food is subpar, I feel I must tip the %15, for polite service and then just never go back. Having worked as a server, I realize that's how servers in the industry survive and pay the rent. It's not the wait staff's fault if the food is disappointing. And lastly.....I think it's really hard to get a good dinner ANYWHERE in Brooklyn these days. So our experience here is NOT UNUSUAL for the times! Since the pandemic started, I have NOT had a good (B+ or better) meal in a restaurant in Brooklyn. Not one single time! Maybe, it's low turnover of product? Or, like us, people don't send the food back when it just isn't right? Maybe we are too understanding & don't want to ruin our evening by complaining & letting them know they aren't cutting it. Maybe we just want to pretend it's all OK, so we can talk to each other instead of making a scene. In the old days (up until the early-mid 1990's?) complaining in person was more the norm & people didn't hesitate to try to get what they paid for, IN PERSON, and didn't care about the manager's, cooks, or staff's feelings. Now we can resort to google reviews. I also wonder if the people cooking the food are happy? Are they paid enough? I don't think they are well trained or well supervised, at Mistral for sure. So over all...sadly, just like all the rest of the pretty dining rooms, polite staff, yet overpriced food for the quality and cooking these days.
Brunch was meh. Theres real issues with the freshness of the food. Orders the ceasar salad and the chicken was clearly a holdover from the day before, slightly reheated but mostly cold and dry. The wine was also left out over night; had them pour a fresh glass and was able to verify. We won't be back.
We had the pate, couscous salad, and french onion soup. My husband couldn’t finish the paté and the manager on duty asked if he wanted to pack it up. We said we were full and wanted to save room for more food. He gave us a smirking attitude and said “all right... its homemade” then left. The paté itself was cold, hard to spread, not smooth enough, and under-seasoned. The couscous salads were a disappointment- it tasted like spinach that was casually tossed together with couscous and no creativity in mind. The french onion soup looked appealing but it sat in too much oil from the cheese. It was tasteless until you got to the bottom of the bowl. The oil obfuscated the taste of the soup. There was about 1/3 cup of oil just sitting on top of the soup that I wanted to scoop out. Overall, we thought the food lacked creativity and taste. The bread was probably the best part. We will not be coming here again for French food. The space has so much potential but the food was disappointing.
I tried this place again ... why??? Honestly i was initially glad to see this place open again. It could be a nice little neighborhood spot. The foods still good and the live music is great. But the “manager” is such a smug little creep. I don’t think he’s the owner, but he drinks the house wine like it’s his own private reserve. He’s tolerable (if creepy) early in the evening, but gets progressively offensive as the night goes on. I’m trying to enjoy a nice meal and he’s demeaning staff and insulting customers. He’s seriously a nasty human being. I wondered why this place inexplicably closed for a few weeks (rumor is staff revolt), now I’m wondering how it’s open for this long. They’ve forever lost a regular customer.
The owner/manager who approached our party to seat us did not allow us to sit for a dinner reservation because I was wearing a tank top, despite multiple other diners in the restaurant who were seated and wearing sleeveless shirts or plain tees. Being declined our seats felt targeted to my party, who definitely didn't look like the other guests in the restaurant, and the way the man communicated the dress code was very rude. Great vibe inside, but I'd never return with the way the man at the host stand spoke to us.
Third time not the charm... We a few blocks away from Le Mistral and were excited when it opened several months ago. We first tried to go in the spring and weren't deterred by being the only people in the restaurant. However, we were immediately interrupted by jack hammering (during dinner service at about 7pm on a Friday) and the very apologetic server told us that unfortunately the noise would continue throughout the evening. So we left before sitting. Our second try was this summer, looking for a cool respite happy hour and the air conditioning was broken. So we left before sitting. We tried again now that the weather is cooler, hoping for a nice local dinner on a Saturday night. The server was painfully under-educated about the menu - every question we had she had to ask the manager and even brought cava for us to taste when we asked about what champagnes they had by the glass. For a French restaurant to only have Spanish bubbles and a server who doesn't know the difference is a problem. While we were waiting to order the server brought over a basked of extremely stale bread - again, for a French restaurant, embarrassing to say the least - and we decided to call it quits. We will not be returning to Le Mistral and, while the food may be good, I doubt it and we will never know. It's a great location and they've done great things with the decor but I doubt it will still be around if they keep on not trying. That said, if you want a last minute table in the Slope on a Friday or Saturday night, this is your place - it is empty.
We had a very disappointing experience with the customer service here. We waited a long time after being seated, despite being assured by the waiter that we would be attended to within a couple of minutes. Meanwhile, others who arrived after us were promptly served and able to place their orders. The waitstaff seemed to ignore us deliberately, which made us feel singled out and even treated in a discriminatory way. What we had hoped would be a pleasant dining experience turned out to be unpleasant and dismissive. Unfortunately, the poor and seemingly biased customer service left us feeling ignored and unwelcome.
Awful experience. The manager was actually cursing at customers, which is completely unacceptable. The staff were just as rude, showing no professionalism at all. Customer service here is terrible. Please don’t waste your time or money going to this place.
