Was driving thru from Toronto to the US via Buffalo. When in Rome! Came here for the wings. Great wings they were! Love the onion soup too, oniony and cheesey. Especially fitting for a rainy day that we were traveling on. The au jus was flavorful on that very tasty buns sprinkled with cheese on top. We would come back to try other dishes if we come thru to Buffalo again.

Really great wings and beer! We got an order of McCarthy’s wings (sweet and spicy bbq sauce w/ blue cheese crumbles) and of the hot Buffalo wings. Both were seriously good! Loved the fries too, they’re even better with a side of gravy - our server recommended that and it was really good. We loved it all, great experience.

Our favorite wings! The honey mustard wings are amazing! We are from out of town and tried this place 3 rys ago. My 7 yr old had the honey mustard wings 3 yrs ago and still talks about them. He said they were better than he remembered! And I agree! The beer is great too. The Ipsofacto NE IPA is great. Hope you enjoy!

The cool breeze on a sunny day made for a really nice meal in the beer garden. The Potato Bacon Soup was excellent! I highly suggest it. Also, one of the best Rubens in Buffalo. Can’t wait to come back.

We liked our food, the french dip was really good as was the ruben. The fries were delicious. Our waitress was very nice but was quite absent. It took a long time to get menus, to order, to get our drinks/food, to pay etc. The time of day we came, there was only one table in the shade, which was taken, so we sat inside. It was very hot inside (even hotter than outside). When we left, though, the sun was going down, and the temperature outside for their beer garden was perfect. Maybe have the tents/canopies for outside able to move to block the sun during different times of days.

It's a great place to get a ruebun! All the food is great, including the roast beef! They had an Irish band playing. What a fun night!

Dined here on Friday evening, was very busy with the bar crowd, dinner crowd, and many Bandits fans prior to their game. We had a small wait before a table was ready, so we grabbed a drink at the bar. After about 10 minutes we were seated, and ordered promptly. Since this was my first time, I asked the waitress what she recommended and I was told the fish fry was a must have. We ordered two, one breaded and one broiled with Cajun seasoning. Both came out in short order, and were quite tasty; the fish was fresh and the fries / sides were prepared well also. This at first appears to be a dive bar, but once you sit for awhile you slowly get start to see that this is a neighborhood staple with friendly people all over. I would definitely stop back, and would recommend you checking it out as well.

Good food and historical old neighborhood pub. It’s not big and fancy. You may have to wait for a spot to sit in the limited dining space. The fact that it’s always busy makes it a good sign that you’re about to experience some good grub. Wednesday and Friday fish are a must reason to drop in. We had the deep fried portebella strip appetizer. Beef on Weck, fish fry and baked fish. Local beer on tap as well as a Black and Tan. You won’t leave hungry! Good place to take in when in the area.

1st stop on our wing tour. Quiet irish pub. An order of 10 wings, cheese fries a beer, two sodas was about $50. We gave it 8 out of 10. Wings were good..the fries could have had melted cheese..

This place was recommended by many people in the Buffalo foodie group for the best fish fry. Although the french fries are fresh cut, I am certain that the ones I was served were reheated, I could tell by the texture that they didn't recently come out of the fryer. None of the sides were anything to write home about. The coleslaw had a slight citrus flavor to it and an herb on top that I couldn't quite decipher which gave it a distinct flavor. The potato and macaroni salad were both mediocre. The fish itself is skinless haddock, it was good quality and cooked perfectly. The batter on the fish was not dense at all, it was more light and airy, had a nice crunch on the top half of the fish but the entire bottom side of the fish was soggy. When I picked the piece of fish up vertically, liquid dripped out the end of it onto the plate, I'm not sure if it was oil or water. The tartar sauce was good but with a pronounced vinegar flavor. The flavor of the batter on the fish was rather bland. Would not recommend this place for a fish fry although I have very high standards for fish frys. Emergency Pizza used to have the best fish fry around, but it has become hit or miss unfortunately, so my hunt for a consistently delicious fish fry continues....

Food would get 5 stars. Service 2 stars and beer 1 star. Sorry, the beer I had on draft was room temperature and flat. He gave me another, but it was the same.... Bottle of Coors Light was good though

We do the “Lenten tour” every year and up until this year; Gene McCarthys was at the top of our list. So; as we have learned to do; we went right over at the beginning of Lent two weekends ago to get a table early and beat the crowd. Let’s just say; there really wasn’t a “crowd” like there used to be which should have tipped me off. We waited a very minimal amount of time to get a seat at the bar. When they brought the fish fry out; which actually came out way quicker than normal; I knew something was off. The “beer batter” looked different; but what really changed; was the actual fish itself and it was super DRY. There was no flavor at all. I looked to my dinner companion and said something along the lines of this is terrible and he said his was also awful. Definitely not the caliber of many many years previous that we have been going. I also looked around and at 5:30 there was no one waiting to be seated at all; which is unusual; because people are usually still waiting at 8p to be seated. I also noticed the phone wasn’t ringing off the hook like it usually is. While I can say this bad dinner could be a one off; the fact that the place was not jam packed like it normally is of the phone going crazy with orders tells me people have already found out that the food is definitely different. I did ask if they had changed vendors and she said that they have a new kitchen “manager” who was making things more efficient. Mmmm; I’m not sure if efficient means cooking all of the fish ahead of time and then reheating it because that’s exactly how this meal tasted and is far from previous experiences. The following week I mentioned to a friend how bad the food was and quite frankly how shocked I was and they did mention that the kitchen was taken over by a fireman? Cannot confirm or deny this; but it’s terrible and we won’t be back until the tried and true returns to the menu. Like I said; I feel like other people already knew and we were late to the game finding out. An empty bar area at 5:30 on the first day of Lent is never a good sign,

Saddened by my experience today. I’ve been here multiple times and always had a good time. Today I arrived around 4:30, the sign inside says that a host or bartender will seat you. Waited about 10 minutes with absolutely no acknowledgement from anyone. Finally a CUSTOMER said it was seat yourself.. okay? Why couldn’t the bar tender let us know that then. So we told the bar tender we’d like to sit outside and she said that was okay. Found a table outside and sat there for 25 minutes, waitress in and out of the patio with zero acknowledgement of us.. She cleaned up the dirty dishes on our table but didn’t bring us menus or even look at us. Just really disappointing to be ignored like that. Unfortunately that was such a bad experience I don’t think I will be returning. I read a few other reviews that have similar sentiments. I’ve worked in food service for a long time and it is not that hard to just have human decency and say hello to your customers. It wasn’t even that busy. 😞 Edited to add: We went to Adolf’s down the street and had a way better experience. Friendly staff and great wings 👍

I’m giving this place 1 star because the service was so poor I never got to taste the food. 5 pm on a Friday and the outdoor area had 4 other small groups/ couples seated , with drinks/ food. My friend and I sat down and for the next 25 minutes, no one acknowledged us. I had to stop the teenage host and ask if we could have a menu since he was about to walk back inside the restaurant. He then gave us menus, but 3 separate waitresses and a kitchen worker all proceeded to completely ignore us. People that sat down outside 15 minutes after us at a table near us already had drinks by the time we explained to their waitress that we’d be leaving and why. I read a few other reviews and nothing bad said about the food but same complaint about the poor service. They need to get organized there.Very strange experience…
