While I may not eat poke regularly, Hibachi-San is one of my favorite spots. I've been to a small handful of other poke places and none of them are as reasonable price-wise as Hibachi-San is.
Pretty good, quick with getting your food together even if your in a rush to get back to work, very clean and great service.
For food on a military base, this is pretty good. It solves your Poke fix, and as an added bonus, if raw food isn't your thing, they also have cooked meats.
Lovely fresh food, lots of choices to please all in our group. Prices were good $9-$13 per bowl.
Decided to give this a try. AMAZING. So fresh and delicious. 22$ for 2 small bowls and they were really filling!
Great food at a great price. This place was located on Camp Pendleton US Marine Corps base California
Great spot for poke on base. Clean and they constantly are restocking the selections with something on the grill pretty much at all times. Wish you could get a little more crab for the price. I usually get it as an extra protein. Other than that nothing negative great spot on base.
Five stars cause the poke here is the bomb .com. Best poke I’ve found around O-side and Carlsbad area. And if you’re on base already, it’s great for a quick bite. Wish they’d have more of a variety for their drinks, but Thai Tea will suffice for now.
I'm definitely liking this place. It has been open for a few years now and since then, they have gotten better with a great selection of food items that always do the trick for me. Love bringing my friends here too, they love it.. 😁
I always stop by every time I come to base. It's my favorite place. Easy to order, fast, and delicious.
Friendly staff and clean dining area. Great choices for food options. They also have some prepackaged sushi and some boba drinks. Sucks they only have 1 size of drink, which is a large.
Great food, great prices. Highly recommended. I love the poke bowls. So far everything I've tried was very good.
I love this place! I’m addicted to the pickled cucumbers, it makes me want to eat a poke bowl everyday!
I really enjoyed this place. I've never been here before tonight so I wasn't sure what I was walking into. It's similar to a chipotle of sushi type bowls. I got rice, shrimp tempura, krab, kimchi shrimp, seaweed salad, edamame, and spicy mayo. 10/10 would have again.
Hibachi-San on base at Camp Pendleton is one of those spots that never disappoints. The staff is friendly, professional, and always welcoming they greet you the second you walk through the door, which makes the place feel inviting right away. The restaurant is consistently clean and well-kept, from the kitchen area to the dining tables, which says a lot about how much pride they take in their work. The service is quick, even during the lunch rush, and the team handles every order with care. The food is fresh, hot, and cooked right in front of you, so you always know what you’re getting. Whether it’s the chicken teriyaki, beef yakisoba, or the classic fried rice, everything tastes just as good as it smells. Portions are generous, and you get great value for what you pay. It’s clear the crew works hard to keep customers happy they remember faces, get orders right, and genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. In a fast-paced setting like Camp Pendleton, it’s nice to have a place that’s consistent, clean, and welcoming. Hibachi-San is easily one of the best food stops on base and worth coming back to every time.
Great spot for a quick, tasty lunch! Hibachi San has some of the best-priced poke bowls around—super fresh and super satisfying. It’s the perfect stop if you’re craving something light but filling. I love grabbing a bowl and heading to the beach for a chill lunch with a view. The portions are generous, the flavors are on point, and the service is always friendly. Definitely one of my go-to spots! My only complaint is the portion is a bit small and they don't offer poke by the pound like in hawaii.
Really great bang for your bucks! We love all the protein and toppings!
Tried this place for the first time and glad we did. The food and customer service was really good-- reasonable price. It's like a Chipotle where you build your bowl. You can pick the poke bowl (which we didn't get) or you can pick a small bowl or a regular bowl. The small bowl was enough for me. For the small bowl, you have a choice between white or brown rice, you choose 2 of the proteins (salmon (very delicious), chicken teriyaki, beef tri-tip, chicken potstickers, shrimp tempura, tempura spam), AND you get to choose up to 4 toppings (fried onion, edamama, cucumber, etc. )Can't remember it all) I asked to put the toppings on the side and they had no problem with that. All of this for a small bowl! The place was very clean as well. This place was inside the military base. I hope their other locations outside the base are just as good.
First time eating here and I thought the food was yummy and customer service was awesome! Great place and another dining option on base.
We stopped by here to grab a quick lunch, my family and I enjoyed it! We will go back here again!
Love this place. Variety of choices to build your own asian/japanese bowl
If you have the access. Pokey Bowl! Pictured is the large with 3 proteins.

They make really good poke bowls. I eat here practically every day. All of their hot and cold meats are fresh and tasty and the servers are really nice.
One of the best Asian food and their service! Food mixing Rice Meat Vegetables support enough nutrient contents to the body but not much sugar. It is very scientific and not make people fat. And also their service are very good when customers entrance accept “welcome”! Thank you for your service and thank you for your couples’ service in Military!

I enjoyed all of the various options and sides, however initially it seems that you are overpaying per proportion difference between the small and regular poki bowls
First time eating at this restaurant chain. It's very good! You have a variety of choices. It's more of a poki place. The prices are reasonable as well.
It's a chain similar to panda but focused on rice bowls. The variety of meats is pretty decent and I haven't left unsatisfied yet. I don't eat high quality Japanese regularly so the food tastes pretty good. It's quick, not too pricey and the staff are always nice.
For fast food "Japanese", not terrible. Certainly nothing like the food I've had in Okinawa, but alright for an American joint. They serve rice bowls, and you choose a variety of toppings. A lot of food for the price. Did not try the sushi, mostly because it looks like the variety you can get at the commissary. Overall, i would consider this place for those "too tired to cook" nights
Fast and friendly service, lots of options. The staff was patient with explaining the experience. The food was ready quickly and the portion sizes were great. Everything was as advertised and delicious. Would definitely return!! I recommend adding the spicy mayo to your bowl!!
The place is clean, service is fast, and employees are very nice. The food is rather on the more expensive side but it’s not bad taste wise, more of a 6.5/10. They do offer a wide variety of toppings and drinks.
Just think of this place as a bit more expensive panda Express. A good 9 or 10 doll hairs can be spent on a single bowl not including a drink. Don't get me wrong the food is finger lickin' good and their chopsticks are actually good

One of the best places to eat on Pendleton quality-wise. Most upset reviewers don't understand hibachi is just a Japanese style grill/cooking device. Good Japanese STYLE food if you want something quick. Gets busy at lunch time when payday happens, plan accordingly 🤙
Tuna , brown rice, salad , beef, salmon in a bowl it was good
The service was really good. Food was delicious. It was my first visit, so I was thinking that with their name, they might cook food in front of us. Maybe at least a tad more variety?

My wife loves this place, I think it's just aight. I think they're even less aight after they raised their prices, and seemingly reduced portion size at the same time.
Pros: Good food. Sometimes they place a good amount of portions. Cons: Depending on the server, theyre so stingy with the protein and ingredients. And you dont have a choice with the drink cup sizes - there excuse is that they only large cups (and thats $2) but when you go to the refill station, they got small cup lids.
My husband and I stopped here on a Sunday afternoon. They were a little busy. However, I was disappointed with my Teriyaki bowl. The chicken was old and it tasted like chicken liver, you know how it gets when food has been cooked and then held in sauce for several hours? Awful. Was pretty expensive for what we got.

Food was alright. Almost didnt taste as fresh as real Japanese food or sushi. Worst part was i was stuck there for an hour cause their internet was down or something and i couldnt pay, but instead of warning me before i ordered my food they prepared it then told me so i had to wait. Did this to a number of customers behind me. Really bad on them.
It should be illegal to sell a bowl full of rice with 2 strips of spam, a spoon full of corn and pinch seaweed with some water for 11 dollars lol. But it's not. I gotta say it's the healthiest thing I can find in 20 area of camp Pendleton in a hurry but it's over priced, their tea is nasty, and they talk over your food.
Poor Management. I’ve been here quite a few times. It’s usually alright and I order the same thing with the same toppings each time. This time when I tried to get my normal order I was told I would be charged extra for some toppings. The menu reads “all toppings included” and when I mentioned this the woman called to a worker behind me and asked “it’s only 4 toppings right?” To which I replied saying it should be on the menu, and I was given an excuse of “new management”. If there is a change that is made it should be instantly updated on the menu ESPECIALLY if the menu is just a digital graphic on a TV screen...
Went here for the first time because the menu looked good online. It was a slow day in the afternoon, & I’m not sure if the service was just having a bad day, but since it was my first time trying it out, I didn’t know there was a selection for bowl sizes because there was no labels on the bowls. Service gets snippy if you’re not familiar yet with the ordering routine. Clean establishment & food was average. Prices are alright for the portion size. It’s edible for food that’s not truly authentic Japanese cuisine.

Literally one of the worst places. Not only is customer service awful but they have such limited options. It’s worth driving out of the way to go anywhere else.
Started out amazing and loved every bit of it. Then slowly got worse and worse. Started with one of the workers yelling at an elderly lady with broken English and calling her nasty names because the worker didn’t understand what the customer wanted. Also put soy food in the bowl when not asked for. The food also slowly got more disgusting each time. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s old or has not been taken care of properly. They also keep your stamp card when it’s half way full and say that we need a new one. Customer service used to be decent. Now I refuse to go there. Just a bunch of angry people who slop food in your bowl.
The white middle aged lady was so rude she had me and my friends confused as to why she was being so rude. I got confused and ordered 1 protein but I asked for chicken teriyaki, shrimp tempura and another thing. She only served me chicken and when I said “I want the other two things” she looked at me and aggressively threw the plate in the trash can. She served me again and then only put the shrimp tempura rice and no chicken. I corrected her once again and she rudely said “can you speak louder!!” and threw the food in the trash can once again instead of just adding the chicken. At this point my friends steps in and tells her that she didn’t have to be so rude to me and she stared at her and literally walked away to the back. We were all in utter shock that this lady was so rude for no reason at all.
Extremely inconsistent! We're on vacation in the area and are retired Air Force and are fortunate enough to be able to use the base. Great commissary, bowling alley etc. For 2 days, we went on base and had take out here because our love of poki. Both times, the bowls were inconsistent. Rice, base, 2 proteins or 3 and toppings. Both times, different people, different results. We paid a lot of money for a lot of nothing. Too much rice, not enough poki. We were here last year and ate here once. I'm sure it's the last time we'll be back to California, much less eating here!
First experience here was very unpleasant. The price was bad. After living in Japan the last two years, to call this Japanese food would be like calling a dog a cat. Was not tasty, nothing about it measured up to expectations. I would like to add I also got food poisoning. Save your money and save your toilet.
Just tried again 3 months later. It's 2:30pm and still no quac... why bother even having it on the menu? ***Last time they didn't have avocado on the line because they "closed soon" (it was 1.5 hours until closing). This time they didn't have it on the line and it's over 2 hours before closing... why bother even having it on the menu?
Severs like “Leping” is why a good restaurant gets sewed. She has a very bad service and also talks back to customers.
This place is very stingy with their portions. I came here before and got a small bowl and got the shrimp as one of my proteins, I was served only 3 pieces and the employee said that is their policy.. meanwhile the manager is serving her chid free food with huge portions. I came here again and got a small bowl and asked for my 2 proteins to be ahi tuna, and they tried to charge me for an extra protein when I never asked for extra protein. Also the salmon portion has decreased dramatically, they serve bite size portions of salmon. I can recall not even a year ago the salmon was a decent portion. They shrunk the portions of proteins but the price remains the same.

I have been going to Hibachi San probably once a month since 2020. Today was the last day. They have changed their portion options (the actual bowls and servings) over the years which I was fine with. The employee behind the counter serves the toppings you choose. I picked a Regular bowl which consists of 3 chosen protein options. I picked only 3 protein toppings and the normal quantity of other toppings that is part of the Regular bowl order. I used to ask for an extra protein topping (which is an up charge) on other days that I ordered. The employee rang up my bowl and I paid. It was bagged up for to go. I was filling up my drink after I paid when suddenly the manager comes up to me and says that I needed to go back to the register to pay for my extra protein. She never saw my bowl, never was behind the counter to see what I choose for the bowl. She looked at my order on her kiosk only and made the assumption from past orders I have made that I wasn’t charged for an extra protein. I explained to her that I did not get the extra topping and she tried to explain that she thought I ordered a small bowl (which I didn’t, and paid the regular bowl price, which was displayed on the kiosk) that she thought the new employee made a mistake. I have never been stopped walking out the door with food hand served by a business behind the counter and told that I need to pay more for an assumed amount of food I received. Way to nickle and dime customers. Make sure you keep your receipts if you go here.
