Great food, great service! We came here with our two little kids and the waitress was so patient and so much help! The food tasted great!
Picked up some nachos before heading to North Ponto in Carlsbad to hang out with family and this place was a great choice. Good amount of food for the money, tasted great, packed securely for the short drive. There were a lot of people inside (shocker!) and more in their outdoor seating area. The lady who handed me my order was really nice. Thumbs up!
Great Mexican food! Lovely ambiance and fairly busy restaurant. The service was great and the food was delicious. The best part is the chips and queso which was sooooo good! I would say a five star experience with those delicious delectables! The regrows beans and rice were also killer! I got the surf and turf burrito! It’s was French fries, shrimp, and a steak! It’s awesome! I would try something else when I go back!
Excellent happy hour choices! I love coming here on Tuesday for Taco Tuesday specials. 😋
Outstanding happy hour value and delicious food. Service was top notch too.
Walked in at nearly 8 PM and there was a wait list. Was able to find a single spot at the bar. Although the restaurant was packed, the bartender was quick to engage and take my order. Ordered a margarita and camarones a la diabla dish. Both were delivered quickly and delicious. Great atmosphere and authentic cuisine. Definitely recommend.
New place, I'm stuffed with goodness! Food and staff are AWESOME. Very friendly wait staff, seated right away at 630pm. Attended to promptly and by more then one person... queso, hands down, forget about it, bring a spatula to get the corners, DELICIOUS!!!! Can't wait to share and return.
Miguel’s has the best food in Carlsbad. The host area is very friendly and accommodating and our wait was 5 minutes at 4:30. We were waited on right away, the server was very friendly and able to answer all our questions. I ordered a strawberry margarita which was the best I’ve had in a long time. I decided on the vegetarian enchiladas and they were to die for, the lime taste was amazing. The queso dip that you get with the tortilla chips is also amazing. I highly recommend this place and they also have Happy Hour until 6:00
The hostess, Sharese, was the GOAT!! Her welcoming energy was so nice. Will definitely be coming back very soon!
Saw this restaurant from the off ramp while going to my hotel. I checked out the menu and saw there were some vegan options. The family decided to go and check it out. Chips, salsa, and drinks were kept flowing! The restaurant total understands large parties and kids! There is a lot of parking. Service was great and so was our server. She let us know ahead of time the house margs have a little bit of oj. They were delicious! I got the spicy pineapple. Yummm. Looks like locals and non locals go! Highly recommend.
I liked this place. Food is very good. Service is good too. Everything was very clean (including restrooms). I thought I was not going to eat all but I almost did. The nachos with jalapeños white sauce was really good (not spicy hot but more like flavorful). The appetizer was top of the top. The burrito was really big and full of steak, shrimps and fries. My kids loved their yellow rice and my wife eat all her plate. The only thing we didn't eat was the beans. Definitely I will try to come back.
We visited the area and couldn’t help but stop here. The reviews looked good and Pictures looked amazing. It was well worth the stop. Everyone ordered something different and everything was gone when we were done. Even the kids cleaned their plates and they ordered adult meals. We will be back if we ever get down this was again!!!!
My entire family loves it here. The food the service is amazing. We have been going here for years. The queso blanco they serve with chips and salsa is soooo good!
Food was great and service was great. Madison was our server. She was prompt, had our order correct, and she checked on us frequently. We had calamari strips. Sauce could have had more zing by having more diced jalapenos. My spouse had Tacos Noteno Plate and I had Chile Verde. Of all the dishes, Chile Verde was the best if you like spice. Flour tortillas were great as well
This was some of the best food my family and I have ever had. Can't say enough about how good it was. Carne asada - tops. Carnitas -tops. Tacos, enchiladas, fajitas - top notch too! And the chips and salsa and hot queso dip - very very good. And the service from our waiter was outstanding. If you are not from the area this is just off the 5, make the stop you will love this place for its ambiance, its food, and the people here. The very best.
We are visiting from out of state and was recommended to eat here. The food was delicious! All of the employees were great and Ashley was an amazing waitress, she went above and beyond. Definitely recommend eating here. 😊
Across the street from Shell gas station in the McD plaza. There’s plenty of parking. No reservations are taken during the weekday, only on weekends. Plus, there are no outdoor dining and they don’t have a patio. The food portions are huge! We had four adults and three kids under the age of 5. We got the sampler to share and each adult got their own entree. In the end, I didn’t eat much of my food and gravitated to the sampler. Not to mention, you get complimentary unlimited chips, house made salsa and their white queso dip. The sampler had ceviche, flautas, nachos, empanadas, and calamari. We also got a side of guacamole and it came with these deep/air fried double layer crisp chips which was different than the house chips. Super yummy. I got the El Jefe combo which came with skirt steak, chicken tamales, and enchilada. Everything was delicious. Basically got everything I wanted from the sampler to our entree. My boyfriend got fish tacos. You have to tell them you want it a la carte otherwise it’ll automatically come with rice and beans combo and charge you for that price. The drinks are also really good and I just miss the whole dining in aspect. It was great to see people at the bar and surrounding tables. They followed the social distancing rule and tables were far apart.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Miguel’s restaurant and I must say, it was a fantastic experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The menu was extensive and offered a wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes, including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas. I opted for the burritos, and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size and the delicious combination of well-seasoned grilled chicken, peppers, onions, and warm tortillas. The drinks menu was equally impressive, with a wide selection of tequilas and margaritas to choose from. I opted for a classic margarita, which was perfectly mixed and had just the right amount of tanginess. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who went out of their way to ensure that my dining experience was enjoyable. They were knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations. Overall, my experience at this restaurant was outstanding. The food, drinks, and service were all exceptional, and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Mexican dining experience.
Delicious food from a large and varied menu. The Miguel's Trio Burritos plate was especially good. The perfect solution for indecision. Carne asada, carnitas, and shrimp half-burritos. All very tasty and distinct in their appeal. For the heat lovers, be sure to request their hot habanero sauce. Flavorful zing with a warm afterglow. Complimentary tortilla chips, salsa, and queso sauce included. Can be quite busy, even on a Monday night. Early dining hours (concluding before 6pm) will avoid the crowds. Lots of free parking in a spacious lot surrounding the restaurant.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening family dinner. Marcos, our server, knew the menu, had a great attitude and was some of the best service in CA we’ve experienced. The food was so yummy. Enjoyed trying all the salsa and dip (we dubbed a salsa flight 😎). Definitely coming back for another margarita!
A beautifully decorated establishment. Colorful without being gaudy. I love that they serve the queso cheese with the chips and salsa. Served quickly. Polite service. I had chicken toquitos. We also had beef enchiladas. Good servings. Great margaritas. Hollie makes the experience worth coming in
I love the combination of Happy Hour and taco Tuesday!! Great fish tacos, fun cheap drinks, and that Queso!!! Addictive, creamy yummy goodness! Warm chips plus a mild salsa that keeps you dipping.
Visiting the area we decided to have dinner here. Got seated quickly. Very clean restaurant. Friendly staff and good service. Full bar and great menu options. TV all over to watch games, fire pit at one of the tables, tall tables as well as booths. Good parking, easy to get in and out of. Cheese served with chips! Good food and descent price as well.
I dined at Miguel's Cocina restaurant after our day trip to flower fields and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with warm smiles and attentive service. The fried calamari appetizer was crisp and delightful, a perfect start to our meal. For our main course, we ordered the fish taco and carne asada taco. The fish was perfectly cooked and it was delicious. I don't recommend the fish taco if you don't like spicy foods. It was really spicy. The restaurant ambiance was okay for larger groups. However, it’s important to note that the interior lighting is dim which may not appeal to those who prefer brighter settings. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Miguel's Cocina. I would recommend this place.
What a treat of a visit today. Our server Lindsey was fantastic, attentive and on time even though the place was popping. The food is fantastic. Grilled octopus taco was crazy delicious. Shrimp quesadilla also rocked the house. Flavor on point at every dish. They even have burgers on the kids menu to suit my little picky eaters. If there was a 6th star, our lunch today would have earned it. Keep at the great work.
Wow wow wow. Service Service Service. We were seated right away and right after we sat down we had plenty of fresh hot chips salsa white sauce and water. Our cups never went dry and the food was great too. I love going to a restaurant where the Service is great and the food too. A+++ To Bad my last Visit was not as good as the first. We had to Wait after being seated. I have 2 kids and the food took 45 min to get to our table. :(
This place is just simply amazing. First, I'm gonna talk about the place. The place is perfectly situated right on the Exit of Palomar Airport Road. Very easy access. Plus I am surprised how the place doesn't look boring, they make the place very lively. I suggest that if the host states that the wait is going to be long ask if you can sit on the bar area because its actually more relaxing sitting there and you get faster service there since the bartender can get your order real quick. Some people might say isn't that the point of sitting on the bar? Well for me the position of the bar is located right in the middle, unlike other restaurants where the bar is inside where you feel like you're in a dungeon well not this particular Miguel's, because when you sit on the bar you have a better view of the restaurant. Now when it comes to food, yes I wouldn't say that it's the most authentic Mexican food out there however I admire how they try to innovate it without sacrificing it's authenticity. Happy Hour is the best. You can get any Mixed Drinks for $5.
Here for the 3rd time and around my birthday. My Mom, dad, son and nephew all came. The shrimp enchiladas and the carne asada are always my go to. Tonight hailey are server was AMAZING. She recommended the margarita special which I loved. Definitely a go to spot when I'm in town. Thank you again Hailey and thank you Miguel's Cocina.
The look of this restaurant reminds us of a high scale Mexican restaurant. It is very pretty, and we loved the furniture. The food was delicious! We had the quesadilla appetizer, quesabirra tacos, and enchiladas suizas. Our waitress was attentive and went out of her way to carry out requests we made.
Haven’t been to Miguel’s in years and this was a nice reunion. I used to go to the one in Coronado but this time we stopped in after Legoland and it was just as good. I’m usually a taco shop type person and don’t go to sit down Mexican restaurants often. We were quoted a 50 minute wait because it was happy hour but they seated us in 15 minutes. Our waiter was very nice and helpful with the menu. We love the chips and jalapeño cheese sauce and the salsa, it was as good as we remembered. I got the Chili Verde with corn and flour tortillas, they make the corn tortillas in house. They were very good but I like the corn tortillas better than the flour. The Chili Verde had a good spice to it which wasn’t too hot but definitely noticeable. I also like their beans and the rice was good too. My daughter had a chicken and a beef enchilada which she devoured. My son had two fish tacos which looked amazing and he ate every bit of them. My wife got a combination platter El jefe, with Carne Asada a tamale and an enchilada and she ate every bit of it and loved it. I tried the Carne Asada which was cooked perfectly medium rare which is hard to do with such a thin cut of beef. So juicy and tender, and full of flavor. The tamale was awesome and not dry and the enchilada was good too. I had a space dust and the kids ordered two virgin mango daiquiris but they were too sour for them. My wife ordered a piña colada and it was awesome. We wish we had room for dessert but it wasn’t in the cards. All the staff was very friendly and helpful the place was clean and the bathroom was nice.
Our favorite restaurant in ca.Server today was Bradley!! So accommodating and on it! Just love going there for the amazing food and such friendly servers and warm atmosphere. Go there every week, such a great tradition to cherish. Thanks Miguel’s! Especially Bradley!💕
We love the Fajitas! Very flavorful and plenty for leftovers. I don't get the beans and rice with it so they give double veggies more grilled bell peppers, onions and zucchini - delicious!
Overall Service Was Great! Food Was Good. Barbacoa Plate Not As Flavorful As I Expected, But Beans And Rice Were Delicious! Enchiladas Suizas Were Good. Still 5of5.
We had a big birthday party with 16 people, the food and the service was EXCELLENT!! Our server Ashley was the BEST!!!!! My friends were kind a demanding but she took such good care of all those annoying young ones, they were keep asking for more drinks and more salsa, more cheese , more chips ……. Ashley was on top of it, no one waited for a minute, she was like an energizer bunny , running bk and fort , wow very impressed wt her.
We went to Miguel's to eat octopus tacos. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was fast, and we enjoyed the octopus tacos on purple tortillas.
Delicious food. Flavors and menu is unique but also familiar enough if I feel like the classics. I've been here maybe 6 times the past year. Excellent everytime. Consistent. Chefs/cooks did a wonderful job. Thank you Layla for Excellent service. Give her a raise.
We arrived around 4:45pm on a Friday and were seated in the bar area for Happy Hour quickly. Chips and salsa were delivered shortly after that. The house margarita was delicious and way stronger than I expected for a Happy Hour drink. My husbands carnitas tacos were huge and my taquitos were tasty. We were checked on numerous times and enjoyed ourselves. We plan on coming back.
TEN STARS! Today I'm giving a very special shout out to Bradley! Every single time he is our amazing server, he always remembers not only my mom and l, but he knows exactly what we order and all of the little small details like things that we want on the side, etc. I honestly feel like he goes above and beyond every single time! He has already delivered my mango mint iced tea just right before I finish the last one. He's an exceptional and super thoughtful person! He obviously loves his job and exudes that energy every single visit. Which is not always the case at many other restaurants. So l'm writing this review with great appreciation and gratitude for exceptional service and kindness... Not to mention the consistently incredible food! Thank you, Bradley and Miguel's!!!
Our initial visit to Miguel's Cocina was met with a warm reception, characterized by friendly smiles and excellent service from the very beginning. This high standard of service was consistently maintained throughout our evening, largely thanks to our server, Fatima, who was truly exceptional. She was remarkably prompt in refilling our drinks and chips, often anticipating our needs before we even had to request anything. The food itself was delightful and presented at an ideal temperature. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
This was a very nice experience. I sat at the bar around 430pm and Alex was the one to greet me and set me up with a margarita and dinner. Everything was delicious and the restaurant and restrooms were very clean and well decorated. I enjoyed this experience and the quick and efficient service. Thank you I'll be back!
Great taco Tuesday happy hour. Very accommodating to dietary needs. Our server was pleasant, helpful, and had a great attitude. They can also easily split the bill at the table between parties and they're are no crazy service fees or credit card fees.
From the moment my family and I walked into the restaurant, we felt genuinely welcomed. The atmosphere was inviting, and the service exceeded our expectations. I have to give a special recognition to our waiter, Henry, who provided exceptional service throughout our visit. He was attentive, courteous, and ensured we never felt forgotten. We left feeling satisfied and appreciated, and I can confidently say we'll be returning. I hope future visits continue to reflect the same level of care. High recommended!
We made a reservation for dinner for 18-20 people and the staff at Miguel's went above and beyond for us!! My family and I came into town for a wedding and I wanted to get everyone together that was not part of the wedding party to grab dinner and catch up again after not being together in over a year. I want to give a huge shout-out to Tabitha for booking our reservation 1 day in advance, Sherese for greeting us and sparking up a conversation with my partner and I as we were waiting for everyone to show up and even checking on us again as we left, and Aly and Shaun for being amazing wonderful servers!!! You all truly made the experience absolutely amazing and the food came out great!! Thank you Miguel's Cocina for being a great destination for a mini reunion we truly appreciate it and thank you again to the amazing staff for making us all feel so welcome!!
I’ve been to Miguel’s in Coronado a number of times but this was my first time visiting a different location. Their food is always so consistently delicious and the service is great here too! Love the queso and chips to start and none of the entrees I’ve ever had have disappointed me. Highly recommend!
Really good food and very nice service. Kayla was very welcoming and attentive. The enchiladas suizas were great, as were the rolled taquitos. The pollo asado burrito and tostada salad were excellent too. Everyone in my group was happy. Prices were decent and the restaurant was clean and hopping. A bit loud. But not to the point you couldn’t talk. The chips and salsa were delicious too and refilled. They came with queso too which was a nice touch. Easy to work around allergies here as well.
Wonderful customer service all around, the hostesses were very welcoming and took care of our large group right away. Gaby our waitress was just wonderful. The atmosphere is so upbeat but family oriented as well. The food was great, I highly recommend the guacamole and fajitas they were delicious.
I’ve been to Miguel's Cocina numerous times for business meetings and family events, and each time I've had a wonderful experience! 🏆 The food is GREAT, and there portions are generous. You won’t leave hungry — and potentially leftovers to eat tomorrow! And if you’re in the mood for dessert, the fried ice cream is such a fun treat! If you're looking to avoid crowds, lunchtime is definitely the way to go, as it’s far less crowded then. Overall, this place is a staple, and if you haven’t been there already, definitely give it a try. You won’t be disappointed! 😋
It was a fun experience to go to down the street from the beach or from a shopping trip from the outlet mall. The decor was very unique and stood out very original. Especially the paper towels in the bathroom were a big bonus. The drinks were incredible. Get the Miguel margarita, and the due plate is really good.
Our server Edgar was very attentive to our table and very patient and kind with us, thank you!. The appetizers were very flavorful and tasty. The food arrived fast, hot and fresh. The atmosphere was very cozy and made you feel south of the border. The deserts were amazing and sweet. We enjoyed our time here and would like to go back soon. Fun fact this restaurant is part of the Brigantine restaurant family, cheers!

Delicious blood orange margarita! I also had the pork belly quesadilla, which was very good, as were the pork belly tacos. The guacamole appetizer was too small, but the chips that came with it were great - much better than regular cups, and highly recommended. I liked the swordfish taco and my wife like the mahi mahi taco. Our friends always share the carnitas dinner plate. Lots of parking.
Great fresh food, lots of traditional and local options. Service is fast and friendly. It's pretty noisy and difficult to have a conversation, at least when we were there on a busy night.
First time here. It was good. We enjoyed sitting outside and the chips woth salsa and queso were awesome. We had the chicken taquitos and the chicken chimichanga tonight. All of the food tasted good. The chicken was uniquely seasoned and different from the other mexican restaurants we have tried. Liked it alot. They were kind enough to split the plate for us since we were sharing and it was more than enough for the chimichanga plate. We even took a little home. 4 stars because its a bit pricing for some appetizers and entrees. The taquitos were $10.00 for 3 taquitos. Don't get me wrong though, they were yummy, but for $3.33 each small taquito, that was too much to pay. We will try it again another night when we are hungry enough to get 2 plates. Thank you.
I dont know why this place had over 4 stars, service was good but the food was mediocre. Presentation was really nice but flavor wasn't amazing. I was expecting to get blown away when I saw a 4.4 and seeing that I shared the name. The staff was really friendly and it was very spacious inside. I didn't see the need to sit us at the back of the restaurant.
Appetizer people, entree people, and dessert people. The world is filled with all 3 of them. If you happen to be of the app persuasion then you should think about swinging by Miguel’s (especially if you enjoy Mexican food). Our Review Team for this visit reached consensus that we could have eaten only the chips, salsa, and warm queso and called it a night. While we didn’t exercise that level of restraint, we found it comforting to know that we could. Several of us marveled at the texture of the chips and how they seemed to achieve the perfect “crunch” factor. If you try the warm queso and want to take things a step further, we’d recommend the “Pollo Asado Burrito” as it arrived at the table wearing it like a blanket. 😋 We found the portions to be universally generous which led to collective and spontaneous laughter when our server asked if any of us had saved room for dessert. Although many of the things he enticed us with sounded really good, there was just no way that was gonna happen unless he sat down and joined us. For me the most enlightening portion of our review discussion focused on the beans. Apparently for many on our Review Team a good Mexican meal can be accurately forecasted by the quality of the beans. Our team found these to be “creamy” and flavorful and concluded that they tasted homemade. Who knew that for some the overall enjoyment of the meal is dependent upon the quality of the beans? If there is something that makes or breaks a meal for you, we’d love to hear about it in the comments section below. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #carlsbadmexicanfood
First time here in this location. Great way to enjoy lunch right after outlet shopping. It wasn’t busy lunch so we got our orders quick and no issue with parking. Ordered: La Combination Del Jefe - combination of grilled steak, chicken enchilada, and green chili cheese tamales. Steak was well marinated and tender. The shredded chicken and cheese were the right amount with sauce makes a great delicious dish. I wasn’t a fan of the green chili cheese tamales; it might be because I am used of eating meat tamales i.e. pork or chicken. Love the fresh guacamole and beans! Los Tres Amigos Tacos - fish, carne asada, and pork belly. You can request for different combinations. All tacos we ordered were fresh, delicious and seasoned well. Recommended! And of course the free chips and salsa. The creamy jalapeno sauce is addicting. We ate all the tortilla chips because the dips/salsas were so mouthwatering. Highly recommended. Attentive and friendly staff plus great parking.
We were staying at a nearby hotel and the reviews were good, so we checked it out. We got calamari as an appetizer. Our waiter warned us, it was chewier than a “normal” calamari and he was right. It was also served with cheese dip instead of marinara sauce. It was ok. I ate maybe 2. My kids both got bean and cheese burritos. One got a kids one (they are very small, but come with a side). They both enjoyed them. My husband LOVES mole. If it’s on the menu, he’s gonna get it. He’d never had a chicken mole taco, so he was excited to try it. He also got a chicken mole enchilada. He was happy with his selection. I got 2 cheese enchiladas. One with red sauce and one with verde sauce. The verde was my favorite. I also got a Cadillac margarita. It tasted like they possibly make them fresh, as it wasn’t as sweet as normal. Also, I didn’t get grand marnier on the side. All and all, it was a positive experience and we’d go back.
This was my first time here. Overall good food. My tostada was MASSIVE! I got the chicken one....the flavor of the chicken was just Okay but the toppings and the tostada shell itself was delicious. The meal comes with salsa and queso dip (yum). The portion sizes are good. Yhe service was good tonight. This place is beautiful. And the bathrooms are clean.
Took a detour from the mad traffic on the 5 on Memorial Day Weekend. Surprisingly there was no wait! Miguel’s is my fave spot for their queso blanco that comes free with chips and salsa. Delish! This time around we ordered ahi tuna tostadita, Plato Azteca, parillada, and chocolate empanada. The food never ceases to please. The ambiance is chill and comfy and very spacious. We had reggaeton lightly playing in the background and the Padres game on the flat screens. We sat by the bar area which is quite different from the other quiet, intimate section of the restaurant. Doug was very attentive and the food came out speedily. Warning for the chocolate empanada, it is made of Mexican style chocolate so if that is not your type of chocolate then you may choose another dessert. The ahi tuna tostadita will be something I order again and again. Food, service, and ambiance are totally 5 stars, but prices are bit hefty.
You get smaller portions for the price you pay, in other places you pay a few bucks less and get a bigger portion. Alcohol is expensive as well. Our fajitas had more onions and other veggies than chicken, steak and shrimp. Don't get me wrong, the food was pretty good, but for price, this will be a little too much to pay for good 'ol Mexican food.
I recently visited Miguel’s Cocina in Carlsbad for a late lunch with a group of four. The overall experience was decent but there is definitely room for improvement. When we arrived, the host greeted us but the welcome did not feel very warm. The hostess seemed a little nervous even though the restaurant was not very busy. To start, I ordered a spicy Michelada with extra lemon. Unfortunately, it did not meet expectations. It lacked spice and lemon flavor, and tasted more like plain beer than a true Michelada. For a Mexican restaurant, I expected a much better drink. As for the food, the ceviche was the highlight. It was fresh, flavorful, and well made. The guacamole was just okay and lacked seasoning. We also ordered the mixed fajitas with chicken and steak, along with the supreme fajitas with shrimp. The steak and chicken were good but the shrimp was excellent—juicy and packed with flavor. Our server was friendly and polite but the service overall could have been better. I had to ask three times for soda water and there were not enough check-ins during our meal to see if we needed anything. The restroom and dining area were clean, but the atmosphere felt a little unorganized and lacked attention to detail. In summary😊 Food: 🥘 Some great dishes like the ceviche and shrimp fajitas, while others were average Drinks: 🍸 Michelada needs improvement, especially for a Mexican restaurant Service: Friendly but not attentive enough It was not a bad visit but with better service and drink quality, the experience could be much stronger.

Service was great . Chips and salsa always hit the spot . If you like spicy ask for their spicy salsa ( it's either habanero or diablo) . Their shrimp tacos empanizados were pretty good . I got a spi…

They take large group reservations. Seated on time and chips/salsas were brought out immediately. Very generous portions and the food were tasty. Half and half fajitas were delish!
No parking. Small meat portions. Very pricey when there is wayyy better food in Carlsbad for less. Reference the picture, that "plate" is $24.... Never coming again

Entering the restaurant, it is decorated well with an industrial feeling to the structure. There is a large bar in the center of the building with the dining room around it. While service was slow …
I am puzzled. I read the reviews: "authentic," "upscale." The parking lot was full, and there was a wait (at a half-empty restaurant -- staff is hard to come by these days, I take it). Well, "au…

Super busy local Mexican restaurant with least amount of waiting time, but we were lucky that my daughter and I waited less than 5 mins. Packed with seasonal tourists so they got us a high top table which was a bit higher for my daughter. Bucket full of tortillas with two different dipping sauces was enough for me to get full, but super large size dish of tacos and burritos along with ceviche made my stomach blow like a gas full of puffers. Everage taste but you would love if you like heavy big dish for a reasonable price even if this place is so close from Legoland. I’d love the overall atmosphere of in and outside of restaurants. It would be better if the host was a bot more friendlier.
Food is below average. If I'm here spending 20 something bucks on an entree they should at least be above average. Everything needed some more salt. And just look at the presentation between my swordfish tacos and skirt steak fajitas. The tacos were covered in cheap shredded cheese and 2 blocks of fish... hardly appetising. I've had a good amount of swordfish at this point in my life and the ones here are the most underwhelming so far, lacking in mouthfeel, flavor, and sauce. The fajitas looked great, but needed some oomph. I've made better skirt steak at home just messing around. Attentive service and free queso dip though! Wife says the amount(ty server) and taste of the salsa they gave us saved the meal, but I probably wouldn't come again.
The drinks are good. The chips and dip are really good too. It's just a bummer that my food wasn't.. I ordered carnitas. They didn't taste like carnitas at all. It tasted like barbacoa and with a super strong cummin flavored. I can always give it another try but first time was not so good. Price are normal.
The music was to loud. And I don’t want to come back. I couldn’t enjoy my food. And my ears were ringing when I got back into my Car. I was there April 1, 2023 around 6:30/7pm on Saturday. The decor need update. Old sticky table. I sat near the Tortilla Lady. My service was very nice. The food and the chips and salsa was average. Different from the restaurant in Old Town. The food was better there.
Good ambiance, friendly servers but the food is just "okay" ... If you're looking for delicious authentic Mexican food, look elsewhere. The free nachos with salsa/con queso dip is probably the best dish here and with a party of 10 ordering different entree's, we all agreed that it's best to just get a drink here and enjoy the free nachos next time.
Miguel's has always been a staple stop when in Carlsbad. Unfortunately it seems like the quality is on the de line. It use to taste fresher and made from scratch. Now it taste like a Mexicans Chiles. Im not sure if they changed the supplier to sysco but it taste like it. They don't even make/offer horchata. The only positive is that the service was friendly.
I tend to be the type who prefers to go to the hole in the wall places versus the larger ones, as the food tends to be less authentic. Miguel's Cocina is actually a great place with great food. I frequently visit this location, but have also visited their Coronado spot as well. One of my go-to orders, which I again had this visit is their stuffed poblano. It is not your typical chile relleno stuffed with cheese and then battered in egg and fried. It is the poblano itself stuffed with picadillo (ground beef and potato mixture) and topped lightly with cheese in a red sauce. It is so good with a nice savory spin of the picadillo, the creaminess of the cheese, and a nice heat level of spice from the poblano. I get it with all rice and no beans. The rice is okay. Nice and fluffy with flavor, but, not that old school flavor of rice that you might find at a hole in the wall spot. Likely due to the large volume they have too cook at a time due to how large this restaurant is. Order comes with standard corn tortillas along with chips, salsa, and queso (you have got to try the queso! SO good!) My only beef here is the size for the price. You only get about 2 oz of rice and 2 oz of beans and jist one poblano, which isn't huge. For a little over $22, the pricing is a bit pretentious for the portion....
We enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa as well as the queso ordered on the side. The salsa and queso were good, but the chips themselves were a little bland. Carnitas street tacos and flaut…

We were staying in Carlsbad and our concierge gave us a voucher for a free app here. We started out with delicious drinks, chips, queso and salsa. Everything was downhill from there. We got the calamari strips which werr different than the rings and tentacles we're used to. They had an odd texture , kind of like cold fried mozzarella sticks, but chewier. My SO got the grouper tacos; they were alright.. a little too much red cabbage and the grouper was overcooked, dry and pretty hard to chew. I had the caldo 7 mares. All the seafood in it was overcooked and the broth reminded me of straight up Cholula hot sauce. We also overheard our server inform a table next to ours about happy hour and the specials, which we didn't get. Not a great way to start your vacation.
Staff friendly very active to the tables they are serving. Food not so good it has some flavor to it but the fajita was to hard to chew. The shrimp seems to be store bought not fresh at all. The chicken was good. Over all the rating is due to food wise and drink. It supose to be only a tequila sunrise and I got extras in there of who knows what might be from the ice pictures say it all.
The Cadillac margaritas are $17 and they are disgusting. Also, if you have a reservation, just know that you're not allowed to order off of the "happy hour" menu that is strictly for people that do…
Based on reviews, I tried this. Shrimp taco....couldn't eat beans...too salty. Rice ok. Shrimp good. Comes with huge bag of chips...basically, was hoping for better quality.
Casual Mexican restaurant. Server didn’t show up for 25 mins. We flew from New Jersey with a 3 hour time difference came for dinner at 8pm very hungry. I requested the host and he arranged a server to come take our order. Food came out very quick and was good. Must try: flat bread, shrimp or mix fajitas and coconut margarita- definitely try it frozen. Coconut flan was very smooth and delicious. Tres Leches bread pudding was only a plain regular cheese cake with raspberry syrup drizzle on top - nothing like tres leches which was disappointing. We ordered two and both went to waste as we are not fan of cheese cakes. Margaritas were $15-16 each they charged us $26 for each! Very typical chain restaurant food and type no ownership attitude. Won’t be returning.
My wife and I called in an order for take out. I was greeted by an awesome young lady that I spoke with about collecting vinyl records while I waited. She also was able to get her manager to accept our free appetizer coupon we had from our hotel. She is the lone happy part of this review. From the take out counter I could see back into the kitchen section where the servers take the orders out to the diners. On the floor was a large unopened bottle of ketchup that was kicked around several times by employees, but was never picked up. Who knows, it could still be there now. As for the food and the drinks we ordered. By far the worst food I have ever ordered. The spicy margaritas were more like syrupy Tequila Sunrises with very little alcohol. I ordered the Poblano Chile Relleno. It was cold, old looking and near flavorless. The beans and rice were sub-par. My wife ordered the Combo Fajita with extra sour cream and cheese on the side. Instead of placing the cheese on the side, it was placed on top of the fajita and melted in. Also, the fajita was rubbery (Cheese and chicken) as well as bland. The appetizer we ordered was Ceviche which tasted off, like the shrimp was a bit questionable. Miguel's was highly recommended by the hotel and I was looking forward to dinner there, but that was quite a disappointment. Maybe it was an off night, but I will never go to another Miguel's.

Carlsbad's Miguel's Cocina: A Local Staple's Evolving Flavor
Carlsbad, you know Miguel's Cocina. It's been one of those spots that feels like a cornerstone for Mexican food in our city, a place many of us have stopped at countless times when we're in the mood for something familiar and satisfying. Recently, I swung by to see how it's holding up, and I've got some thoughts to share.First off, the vibe is still excellent. Stepping inside, you're greeted by a space that feels both beautiful and noticeably clean – something that really stands out. And the...
