Incredible spot! Burgers are fantastic. Shakes are yummy. Great service. Super charming :)
50s diner. Malts are delicious. Burgers and fries were good. My husband had a vegie burger and I had a mushroom and cheese burger. We stop in here whenever we need a good burger fix!
Our first time at the Cedar Glen Malt Shop (50's Diner style) and I'm already planning another trip up the mountain! Honestly, can't say enough about this hidden gem nestled just outside of Lake Arrowhead, up the many curvy and windy roads to the small community of Cedar Glen. Celebrating 80 years of serving the many satisfies patrons both locally and those like me that travel, Cedar Glen Malt Shop is the Real Deal! They serve up smiles, delicious 1/3 lbs Angus burgers, and Incredible Shakes & Malts with THRIFTY'S Ice Cream!! Their food is quite affordable and they offer a nice Military discount too. Just ask. Gotta give a shout out too all the staff! Especially our servers! Thanks Audrey & Candy, you're the Best! Make the trip, you won't be disappointed.
My family and I stopped just for the malts. Omg, super delicious! What made it experience even better was the service ☺️👍
Absolutely love this place. So does my son too. The food is always fresh and wonderful. It's affordable and such a gem. Staff is always friendly and fast service.
This diner is a true hidden gem! It was raining and wintry outside and so cozy inside. Staff was quite welcoming and accommodating. The burgers, fries, onion rings and shakes were absolutely delicious! We'll definitely be back. Thanks for an amazing lunch!
Took a stroll to Lake Arrowhead from the city to enjoy the mountains and beautiful weather after raining. We asked locals for a good burger spot and found this place, highly rated for a reason. Very good food and service, wonderful people, and just overall good atmosphere. I’ll indeed be back many times over because it was such a good burger. Yum yum yum 🍔
Spent the weekend up the road from this tiny but mighty malt shop. Old time feel, with awesome decor. We tried the root beer float, the rainbow float, the peanut butter shake and vanilla shake. They were all phenomenal! Order a burger, delicious! Toasted buns! We also had the fries and onion rings which were on point as well! Man! I wish a didn’t live far from here, otherwise I’d come a lot!
We're locals and our family loves it here. Definitely the best burgers on the mountain. Love their onion rings and the decor is classic oldie car '50s diner. The shakes are so good and so many flavors! A definite must if you're visiting or live on the mountain.
If you’re anywhere near Cedar Glen, you absolutely have to stop by The Malt Shop. The burgers and fries are out-of-this-world — they’ve got that timeless, nostalgic, homemade taste that instantly takes you back. The shakes and malts are just as good, and my mom couldn’t resist trying the root beer float — delicious! 😋 The staff is genuinely welcoming, which makes the experience feel even better. The place itself is humble, almost a hidden hole-in-the-wall. At first glance, you might not know what to expect, but trust me — give it a shot and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. A true gem that captures the essence of old-school comfort food. 🫶🏽 PS. Sorry for the half eaten burger pic! I couldn’t resist lol! 😂
They were packed out when we got there so we signed in grabbed a menu and waited in the car. Took about 15 minutes for them to come out and invite us in. Servers were happy and helpful. I got a small maraschino cherry shake and the Tijuana taxi which is a grilled chicken breast sandwich with Ortega chilis, grilled onions and swiss cheese on a brioche bun with a salad instead of fries. It was kind of messy but I enjoyed the flavor. The chicken was tender and they put plenty of Ortega chilis. Hubby got the Nomad which is a third pound hamburger with bacon, cheese and peanut butter, (yes I said peanut butter) tomato, grilled onions on a brioche bun with frings or french fries and onion rings. The onion rings were crunchy and savory. The hamburger was really good and the peanut butter didn't throw it off at all. It was more like a thickened peanut butter sauce. He also got the large hot fudge swirl shake. We were told adding malt to the shake would make it sweeter and creamier so we decided not to do that. The shakes were perfect the way they came out. I was really happy about the whole meal and it was worth the wait. I would definitely recommend.
I loved the old-fashioned malt shop vibe. The little vinyl 45s on the wall were great, just the whole vibe in general . The food was fantastic, the bacon cheeseburger with toasted bun was huge, and the onion rings with a side of ranch and bbq hit the spot. The cheeseburger and fries were also a hit with my wife. The 50s music in the background really took me back to the Happy Days vibe. I wish we still had places like this all over, but that was different times that would be great to revisit. Thank you for the blast from the past!!
Very “hole in the wall” sort of place but in the best way. Very chill vibes. Good service, good selection of menu items, the shakes are 🔥💃🙌🏼✨ And the burgers are 🤌🏼 If you’re looking for food and have picky kids with you or are tired of trying to decide which restaurant to go to, you should go here
Been coming here since it was the Happy Face Malt Shop in the late 1980s. It has changed ownership a few times since then, but the malts and shakes remain the same! There are about a dozen booths to sit at and the decor is reminiscent of a 50s diner. Burgers are named after classic cars. My go to is a peanut butter malt. Tastes like the inside of a Reese’s peanut butter cup. Service is always very friendly, but they get backed up quickly during peak summer days. I’m glad this place is still around and I hope I can continue to come here for another 40 years.
This spot was recommended by a friend. It's a small diner with a 50's theme like the old Frisco's in the city of industry that has since been closed for some time now. The food was good. I ordered the Ortega burger a.k.a. "the Lowrider". Very tasty burger indeed. The fries were just fries. If there is room for improvement, it would be there. Fries are another big part of an eatery that people either remember as being great, or they're just dismissed altogether as "nothing special." The seating area is not very large. I would guess it can sit somewhere around 28 to 30 people, and that would include the counter, which accounts for about 6 of the seats. It was easy to find using Google maps. Just punch in Cedar Geln malt shop, and you're off and running! Parking is super limited in front. However, there is some parking along the street. I would definitely recommend this spot for a quick, hardy, and super tasty lunch. If you find yourself in the Arrowhead area, take a little time to go grab a burger! Now, because I don't indulge in sweets very often, I couldn't comment on the malts and other ice cream desserts. But in reading other reviews and noticing posted pictures, I'll bet they are amazing as well! Happy eating!
We went to Cedar Glen Malt Shop on Mothers Day, same as Last year. We love their hamburgers and shakes. We ordered our food and took it down the road and had a picnic underneath the pine trees. The hamburgers are named after vintage cars. The hamburgers, fries and milkshakes are great. The decor is in the 50s, the restaurant is clean and the staff is very friendly. We will be back next year on Mother’s Day again.
This place was such a cute local find. We recently purchased a house in LA and we have been trying different places. The kids wanted a quick lunch but I looked up Blue Jays and noticed that they only had a little over two stars on the reviews… We ended up coming here. It had been raining for two days and the kids were just hungry and mom and dad wanted comfort food. I also wanted to come here because I read about the shakes and I thought that would be a cute treat for the kids. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad … it was plain. We ordered the mini corn dog kids meal for my 5 years old and a strawberry shake… of course she loved it. Our son had the fish n chips whip came with soup or salad.. he loved the soup. Husband had the protein burger. Son also got a crazy banana split Sunday thing. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. There were a few locals that stopped by and it was cool to see the employees call them by their names. All employees were super sweet, cool, friendly! I didn’t use the restroom so I’m not able to get any info on that. The food was definitely comfort food. Tons of burgers, and a few sandwiches. I think I only saw house soup and chili on the menu. We should have tried the onion rings, but maybe we will try that next time. Parking was a little difficult, it’s right up front . Difficult only because we have a huge truck .. there are maybe a total of eight spaces in the front but is really good for them because that means they were busy… I didn’t knock them down in the start for parking. I knocked him down because the food.
Delicious burger. Fries & onion rings were good too. First order of fries were not right. They were replaced without a grudge. Mostly locals were Dining here since it's not on the main road but not too far from Lake arrowhead. We will be back. The malts and Sundays were tempting.
Typical diner. Price is good given that it’s up in the mountains. Burgers are pretty solid. The fish and chips were not good. Just stick with burgers. The milkshake is delicious. Service is meh. The server got our order wrong. She’s willing to have it change but she said it will take awhile. She didn’t even apologize, and made it sound like we order a different one. So we just ended up getting it since we were short in time.
The Ceder Glen Malt Shop is a nostalgic, local place here in Ceder Glen. I went here on two separate occasions two days in a row the first time for malts and the second time for fish and chips. The malt on the first boat was pretty good! We had a hot caramel malt with chocolate ice cream she it was delicious. They actually put in a great deal of caramel and it was a good malt. Though, I will say it could have used more of the malt flavoring. The second day I went because I wanted some fish and chips for lunch and the malt shop obliges for that type of craving. However, I was somewhat disappointed because the fish seemed overcooked a bit and all the fillets were very greasy. Not exactly the eating experience I was going for. I will say they were crunchy though! The fries were a disappointment too. They tasted somewhat bland and didn’t come pre-seasoned in any way. When I tried adding salt, it just fell off. The salad that came with the meal was pretty good though! So I can recommend it for malts or ice cream, but I can’t recommend it if you are looking for a good fish and chips. I’m still glad I tried it though!
Cedar Glen Malt Shop was a letdown. The service felt inattentive and unorganized, which set the tone early. The burgers did not meet expectations, lacking flavor and care in preparation. The fries were clearly cooked at too high of a heat, which was noticeable in both taste and texture. Unfortunately, the milkshake was the biggest miss. It had a strange smell that immediately raised concerns and made it impossible to enjoy. Overall, the experience fell short across the board. With better options nearby, this is not a place I plan to return to.
