Buckle up, y’all. Long review coming of Antojitos Catrachos, a Honduran gem in the awesome burgh of East Charlotte, 6404 Albemarle Rd. East Side Pride! As a resident of East Charlotte for over 20 years, I’ve witnessed the explosion of amazing and under-the-radar food options. This is one of them. I had some business to conduct at the local ABC Store, and the family was hungry after a long, fun day at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC. We had our sights set on our usual go-to place for flautas, but I spied Antojitos Catrachos in the same shopping center. I knew of its existence, but I hadn’t ever tried it. And, mistakenly believing it was Mexican, I was pleasantly surprised when I walked up to the door and saw that it was Honduran, a fairly common and overlooked food choice in East Charlotte, TBH. When I walked in, the place was packed with families, all enjoying large platters of food that looked unknown to me. I passed by the stack of menus to the small cashier’s window and asked to order takeout. The friendly woman working the cash register comically pulled a yonder woman into view, her laugh indicating that this would require the one English speaker on staff to take my order. She walked from behind the counter to walk me through the menu, but to save us both the trouble, I asked her simply, “What does everyone get here?” Without hesitation, she answered by describing (her words), “Chicken with green bananas and cabbage.” That was good enough for me, so I said that I’d like three orders of that, to take care of me and my two dining partners in my family. I asked how long it would take, suggesting, “Ten minutes?” She replied that it would be more like 15 or 20. I paid before conducting my other business in the same plaza, the total coming to just over a very reasonable $45 after tax. Returning 14 minutes later, my order was ready, and the cashier brought my food to me, first grabbing two bottles of soda from the cooler as a little free kicker, something we like to call “lagniappe” in New Orleans, meaning a little unexpected extra. Upon arriving home and looking over the goods, each styrofoam box contained an insane amount of food. We had to look up online what it was exactly that I ordered: Pollo Con Tajadas. The picture may or may not do it justice, but each order contained two expertly fried pieces of chicken–a drum and a thigh–sitting atop a mountain of thinly sliced fried plantain. The entire platter was draped in a fresh slaw and well-balanced sauce that was both simple and varied in its flavor, hitting sweet and spicy notes and more. The chicken was crispy, and the pieces were large. The light-yet-substantial coating on the chicken was crispy and delicious, not salty at all, and it remained crispy even though it had been doused in the sauce and had been sitting under the slaw on the ride home. The oil is clearly changed frequently, and the chicken was absolutely fried at the right temp. My Slavic heritage means that I am both judgy and open to all forms of cabbage, and this one was quite legit. The whole fam agreed that the plantains were, by far, the best we’d ever had. The paper-thin slices of plantain were perfectly fried and not oily at all. A few sliced jalapeños and some thinly sliced yellow bell peppers were used as a welcomed garnish. Overall, I give this place a 10/10. None of us could finish our food, and that was a good problem to have. If you’re ready to try one of East Charlotte’s finest, then head on over to Antojitos Catrachos ASAP. I haven’t had anything else on the menu, so I can’t vouch for any other dish they have going on, but if you get the Pollo Con Tajadas, you just may be as happy as I am right now. FYI, the picture does not even begin to do it justice on size or deliciousness.

It's a small mim and pop setup but food is definitely worth the drive for us. The prices are also very reasonable. Food is authentic and in my opinion best Spanish food around and I've tried many.

DASHER REVIEW: I'm a little bit mixed about this review. The place is stashed away in a semi beat down shopping center with a bad parking lot full of potholes. So from the outside that gives off the impression at the place may be just as rundown. But that wasn't the case. Sure on the inside the place looks a little bit less than but the service was great, that people were nice, and the food was plentiful. I would definitely suggest giving this place to visit and judging it for yourself. The prices were very reasonable for the amount of food that you get. There isn't really too much seating area. I'd say about 20 people comfortably. But they shouldn't be a real problem anyway. Give them a try.

The Baleadas were just hand made and delicious. A bargain considering that size of the order.

Food is good. Try to place order over the phone for take out sadly I called multiple times and they did not answer the phone so I called a different restaurant and place my order there I have order from here few times before same issue about placing order over the phone so if I have extra time I just drive to the place come to place order and wait for the food as well takes about 30/40min

Food is very delicious, the only thing I’m taking one star down is because the service was very slow, but if you have time to spend I definitely recommend to stop by and have the catracho’s plate, is a mix of flavor and the meat is so tasty.

The food is hit or miss. Sometimes it's sooooo good and some days someone that can't cook makes your food and it sucks. The service isn't great, it's a little run in and out place with one server on. Just go ask for your food to go or sit down and eat it but don't expect service.

I found the food ok but didn't like the fact that they just threw my two totally different orders in to one plate mixing the jucies

This restaurant has a security ‘door man’ who stands guard by their locked entry door. I came here for lunch, but they wouldn’t let me in. There was a group of Hispanic men eating lunch inside, and this was clearly during their advertised business hours. I can only assume they didn’t let me in to eat because I was non-Hispanic. Another possibility is because they keep the door locked fearing an ICE raid. Either way, this is not acceptable for a public-facing restaurant business.

Service is too bad, two weeks ago i ordered a "chicharrone con yuca" and what i got was a cabbage salad mixed with mayonaise, ketchup that ir looked like somebody's vomit and the chicharron like four pieces of plastic. Very disapointed !!! Not going back !!!
