An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. Rose Mary truly delivers on every level — beautifully executed dishes, bold yet balanced flavors, and a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy every bite. Each plate was thoughtful and refined, from the delicate crudos to the perfectly cooked meats and comforting pastas. A special mention goes to our server, Wes, who was absolutely outstanding. Attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming, he elevated the entire experience with seamless service and spot-on recommendations without ever being intrusive. This is the kind of place where great food and great hospitality come together effortlessly. Highly recommended — and definitely worth returning.
Excellent place in Fulton Market. Small plates that are shareable. Went with my wife and two daughters. We ordered six plates. All of them great. Nice ambiance. Cool date place. Will definitely be back. Also, don’t be afraid to ask them to take off the 4% surcharge which they say is to “help offset operational costs affecting the restaurant industry”. It’s a load of crap and no one really knows where it goes. I told our waiter I would rather just give him the extra 4%, which I did. Shocking a high end restaurant adds this to the bill. C’mon, a Joe Flamm!
This restaurant had been on my list for a while, and I finally got a reservation and it did not disappoint. It’s officially one of my favorites now. I’m not even a sweet potato person, but the Sweet Potato dish was SO good. We also got the 16oz Dry Aged Strip, and wow smoky, full of flavor. I usually order my steak medium, and the menu said this one would be a bit undercooked, but I actually loved it. We also tried the Radiatore “Cacio e Pepe”. It was good, just a little oily for my taste. Dessert portions were huge definitely more than enough to share between two people. Would 100% go back.
Rose Mary is an outstanding restaurant! I loved the industrial-style decor and the open kitchen concept. The service is truly next level — the team works seamlessly to make sure you get the best experience possible. The menu is full of incredible options, and it’s common for groups to order several dishes to share, which we did. We had the Stracciatella, Mafaldine, Octopus, Crni (the black risotto — my favorite of the night!), Ćevapi, and finished with a Chocolate Budino for dessert. Every dish was balanced, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The vibe is amazing, lively yet relaxed, and the quality you get for the price makes it one of the top restaurants in Chicago. Just make sure to book at least a week in advance — it fills up fast! I added some pictures from our second visit and it was as great as months ago. The Tuna Crudo, The Pear Salad and the Lamb were the highlights of the night. This place is just amazing!
Shut up and take my money! The food was phenomenal! We came in on a Sunday night without a reservation. Luckily we got a seat at the bar (2 people). Bartenders were fantastic, and recommend we order 3-4 dishes. We picked one from every section expect risotto, and even ended with desert! Solid 10/10 highlights of the night were the Tuna Crudo and Caramelle!
I visited Rose Mary in Chicago and was charmed by its warm, rustic ambiance and the open kitchen that made the dining experience feel intimate. I tried several Croatian-Italian fusion dishes—like lamb ragu mafaldine, stracciatella with lepinja, and pork ribs pampanella—and most were deeply flavorful, though one pasta felt a bit over-salted. The service was thoughtful, with servers guiding me through the menu and pacing dishes well despite the restaurant being busy. Overall, it was delicious, creative, and well worth the hype
Some restaurants flirt with greatness — Rose Mary downright sweeps you off your feet. From the first zucchini fritter to the final bite of lamb ragu, every dish danced somewhere between comfort and celebration. The zucchini fritters arrived crisp and golden, whispering summer into every bite. The squash followed, impossibly tender and full of quiet confidence. Then came the pork ribs — smoky, sweet, but a bit dry. The tuna crudo shimmered like edible poetry, the kind that doesn’t need metaphors because your mouth is already applauding. The squid ink risotto flirted with danger — a touch too salty, perhaps, but bold and unapologetic, like that one friend who always makes the night unforgettable. And the lamb ragu? A slow-simmered love letter — earthy, rich, and everything you wish pasta could be. Chef Joe himself eluded us by a mere 30 minutes (our waiter’s words still haunt us), but his spirit lingered in every plate that hit the table. The kitchen hums with precision, the service glides without fuss, and the energy in the room feels like everyone knows they’re part of something special.
You know those meals that just make you happy? This was one of them! My husband and I hit the jackpot at this restaurant. We ordered four dishes and a dessert, and each one was better than the last. Seriously, every bite was a joy. You can taste the passion and effort they put into their food. Our server, Nina, was the cherry on top. She was super friendly, knew the menu inside and out, and was just genuinely kind. Great food plus great service? What more could you ask for? If you're looking for a spot that serves amazing food and has a killer staff, this is it. I'm already counting down the days until my next visit!
I celebrated my birthday at Rosemary, and honestly, they nailed it from start to finish. We were greeted with warm hospitality, and our waiter John G set the tone right away—he surprised us with zucchini fritters on the house. Perfectly salty, crunchy, and paired with a basil pesto aioli that I could’ve eaten by the handful. Me and my friend split the cacio e pepe, which I can only describe as the ultimate adult mac and cheese. The pasta was cooked to perfection and tossed in a sauce that was both decadent and peppery. My boyfriend went for the Brussels sprouts, and he declared them “the best Brussels sprouts he’s ever had.” High praise, and honestly, I agree. For mains, we shared the steak—juicy, flavorful, and cooked beautifully. It’s a fattier cut, so if you’re not into that, maybe pick another option, but I loved it. My boyfriend had the duck sausage, which was delicious but a little on the smaller side. We wrapped it all up with the chocolate bundino: silky chocolate pudding topped with crunchy bits and coffee gelato. A perfect sweet ending. I can’t wait to come back—huge thanks to John G for making the night feel special.
My partner and I go to Rose Mary for my birthday and Valentine's Day every year. They always take great care of us. The food is amazing. I literally dream of their seasonal stracciatella. (Multiple pictured below 😅) Atmosphere is bright and open but comfortable and we've enjoyed Johnny's friendly and professional service several times. Just a great experience that's hard to beat. I hope you get a seat facing the kitchen so you can watch the action!
Had a lovely meal. My favorite dish by far was the shrimp scampi. The fritters were also great and I enjoyed the pasta dishes we got. Also loved the refreshing desert rose spritz. The apple dessert wasn’t my favorite but my mom loved it.
This was a wonderful experience, the food was suggested to get 1-2 dishes per person and in a group of 4 we opted to get 6 which was perfect for us. We ordered (in my fav order): the rigatoni, duck, zucchini fritters, shrimp scampi, octopus, and sharma. But even my 4-6 the last 3 were amazing and I’d recommend them! We also were gifted complimentary truffle risotto which was actually crazy, probably fights for the number 1 spot but since it was gifted I wanted to rate it outside of that. Regardless, incredible experience, our server John was awesome, and all the additional waitstaff were so kind and prompt. 100% recommend, it was a perfect mix of inviting but elevated dining. Since it was dishes split between everyone it didn’t even feel super oppressive a price, wonderful holiday treat for everyone.
Rose Mary offers a modern Italian/Croatian dining experience in a lively & airy space. Highlights from the menu included the crispy zucchini fritters, the peppery and rich cacio e pepe (so perfectly chewy!), and the duck with a rich and flavorful plum sauce. The portions do run small for the price, which is fairly typical for the West Loop, but the flavors were well-executed across the board.
We went as a group and tried a variety of dishes and desserts, including: -Zucchini Fritters -Roasted Pear Salad -Tuna Crudo -Caramelle Pasta -Rigatoni -Cacio Pepe -Duck Sausage -Chocolate Budino (mousse toffee dessert) -Palacinke (apple dessert) -Crostata di Pistachio (dessert) My favorite dishes were thezuchinni fritters, tuna Crudo, rigatoni, and crostata di pistachio (honorary mention to the Caramelle pasta). The Coast to Coast cocktail and brown butter pina colada (nonalcoholic) were also some of the favorite drinks out of what we tried. Would recommend and return again!
This place has a bright and modern feel that makes dining there really enjoyable. The pasta and seafood options stand out, but everything we tried was delicious. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere was relaxed but still lively. It’s a great spot for a memorable night out with good food and wine.
Rose Mary's never disappoints! Their take on Balkan/Adriatic food is unique and most importantly delicious! Our server Ryan was attentive and took exceptional care of us! We love coming to Chicago and Rose Mary's is on our foodie list every time! If you get a chance please try to sit at chefs table and watch this teams synchronized operation and creating the piece of art for you to enjoy.
No words. Food, staff, and ambiance are always on TEN. I can’t wait for many more warm trips and cannot believe I have yet to write a review. Special shoutout to Lauren, Manny, and Andrew for always making my meal feel special. 🫶🏾
I sat at the bar and truly had an incredible time. Hannah was my bartender and she was so impressive. Her recommendations were very on point considering what little info I gave her. She’s honest and quick, sharp as hell-and has hawk-like vision. Women with this level of intention and seriousness tend to fall under the radar. Hopefully this isn’t the case but nonetheless-cheers! You’re awesome Anthony is a superstar and has exquisite taste in spirits and cocktails. Lovely hospitality expert as well Meredith is a gem. She was welcoming and accommodating and very serious e and professional The pasta was very good. But always the folks that sell the menu are the superstars
Dishes were interesting! We got lucky & did a walk in (after a 20 min wait) where they sat at the bar. We talked w a friendly bartender who ended up getting us a free dish on the house! The cocktail was really good — never thought I’d be a tequila person. Zucchini fritters >> must have appetizer. 2 of the entrees were a bit salty for my taste (squid ink risotto & tuna crudo) but it might be my taste buds. Highly recommend ~ great date night spot!
By far our favorite restaurant in the city. The seasonal tapas style food, the service, the atmosphere, we can’t stay away. We’ve probably been here over 10 times and love it so much every time. We celebrate birthdays, pregnancies, first dates after becoming parents, everything. The tuna crudo and the stracciatella are to die for.
Food portion philosophy equivalent to Spanish Tapas. Listen to your server! We were advised 4 plates for 2 people and they were right! We ordered the Gnocchi, the Mafaldine, the Tuna Crudo, and the Pork Ribs Pampanella. We came here ready and hungry, and we thought we would have to order a 5th plate but on the 3rd, we were getting very full. We didn't even get dessert. Highly recommend and will be coming back! Photos: 1 - Indoor seating decor 2 - Ruby Collins - recommend if you like a fruity cocktail that doesn't taste like alcohol 3 - Tuna Crudo 4 - Gnocchi 5 - Mafaldine 6 - Pork Ribs Pampanella
I had a wonderful dining experience! The highlight of the evening was definitely the risotto—it was rich, creamy, and perfectly cooked. Every bite was a delight! However, the ribs were a bit too sweet for my taste. While they were tender and flavorful. I also enjoyed the tuna crudo, the flavors were fresh and beautifully balanced, making it a standout starter. I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes!
Rose Mary exceeded all expectations. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a modern yet cozy vibe. Every dish we tried was creative, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The flavors were bold yet perfectly balanced, with clear inspiration from both Croatian and Italian cuisines. I tried Croatian wine for the first time and absolutely loved it! The service was outstanding — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. It’s rare to find a restaurant that delivers on every level, but Rose Mary truly does. I can’t wait to come back!
I went here with my finance for her birthday. We booked reservations last minute on a Sunday night. The service, food and overall atmosphere was amazing! The waitress recommended that we chose 4 dishes, but we only chose 3. I could not be more impressed with the restaurant and would definitely go back!
Everything about our visit was top-notch — the food, the cocktails, and the atmosphere were all fantastic! What really made the experience exceptional was the service from Brendan. He was incredibly knowledgeable about every ingredient, which made it so easy (and stress-free) to navigate severe egg and nut allergies, as well as other dietary restrictions. We felt genuinely cared for and confident in our choices. Can’t wait to come back and explore more of the menu!
Glad I went. Excellent service and lots of food options meant to be shared. My favorite was a make your own lamb sandwhich. The lamb sausage was delicious!
Have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, happy my friend and I decided to split some dishes. The tuna was fresh and the fried capers on top were amazing. Have not had a tonnato sauce paired with the cauliflower, but we loved this dish!! Really elevated the flavor and paired well with the pickled raisins and herbs. Obviously the pastas were the stunner; I thought the truffle was nice because it’s more oil based and not overwhelmingly cheesy. The ladies sitting next to us recommended the gnocchi and it did not disappoint; would also recommend this, the beef cheek was fabulous. Smaller portions, but Lauren who served us was fabulous and helped pick out the dishes so we could have a well rounded meal.
Went here recently for a friends birthday. We got seated at chefs table and their kitchen staff is attentive to detail and seems to be a well oiled machine. Our waiter had valuable input and was so kind. The restaurant was busy but never felt overwhelming in ~vibe~. We got the tuna crudo, beef cheek gnocchi, zucchini fritters, ribs, beet/pomegranate dish and dessert. The sizes are generous and definitely share size if it’s 2 people but probably not for a whole party.
A truly lovely dining experience. I lucked into getting a table after sending an email and there was a little confusion with my table but ended up getting a spot at the kitchen. My server was WONDERFUL very attentive but not too pushy. I started with the octopus as my dining tradition and it was very good. Not chewy at all and had a nice char to it. I got the risotto with squid and the flavor of the dish was incredible. It was squid ink risotto and the earthiness of the squid ink just highlighted the squid so well. The squid was cooked perfectly and when covered in the risotto sauce just was an exquisite bite. Of course I had to get dessert and it was a toffee cake and it was like a warm Carmel hug in a vanilla gelato snow storm. The person preparing the dish gave me a scoop of blueberry lemon ginger sorbet and it was just the best pallet cleanser to end my amazing dinner!! Plan ahead and make this a stop.
Easily some of the best service I've had. Not bothersome at all while always there, extremely competent and efficient. Bussers were I mean, top of the notch. Server could answer anything about the food. The dishes were beautiful and delicious and unique. Ambiance is so pleasant. My favorite dishes were the pastas, branzino, and apple dessert. I really enjoyed my experience here!
We LOVED the food here. The appetizers were especially amazing. - The straciatella and zucchini fritters are musts. - The octopus was also cooked perfectly and seasoned amazingly. - The dessert was mouth watering. The only problem we had was the rigatoni. It was not good. While the pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce was extremely salty and didn’t have much flavor. It was such a letdown after those other amazing dishes. The cocktails were also fine. We didn’t love them but they were fine. Highly recommend this place and the appetizers and dessert
Absolutely one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We were two people and ordered 4 dishes to share at the recommendation of our server. The grilled clams and mafaldine were stand outs, but the skradin risotto and apples & endive salad were also incredibly delicious. The service couldn’t be better and the space is gorgeous.
I'm in love with a lady named Rose Mary, the Italian-Croatian restaurant located in Chicago's eclectic and vibrant Fulton Market. I had the pleasure of dining there recently and I'm still dreaming about my meal. So many standouts! The Radiatore 'Cacio Pepe', Malfadine pasta with lamb ragu, Baby Octopus 'Peka style', Pork Ribs Pampanel, and the Burek Croation sausage, all outstanding! Other items on the menu look delicious as well. I wish I'd left room for dessert. Well, next time. I'm already planning my return visit. So, if you're a fan of amazing small to large plate dining, make your way to this lovely place. You won't be disappointed.
Overall it was worth the trip— the interior was pleasant, cozy, and buzzing but not so loud that you couldn’t have a conversation. I enjoyed the open kitchen and the cook on the shrimp and tagliatelle were perfect. The Delicata squash was a little Under what I would have liked but it had a nice layering of flavors and good presentation. The Tagliatelle was the best: rich but not heavy, perfect cook for the pasta, and generous amount of white truffle. One thing I will say about the shrimp— perfect cook, wonderful char, and the crispy garlic was delicious. I would recommend going at least once.
Everything about this restaurant experience was amazing. The Food, the staff, the atmosphere were all great and top notch. We had the Zucchini Fritters, Tortellini Djuvec, Ghocchi, Burek, and Braised Lamb Shoulder. We would order everything again as it was all really good. The pasta was fresh and delicious, the zucchini fritters were a great start and unique. The Burek we didn't know what to expect, but it was kind of like an extravagant pizza puff or empanada. It was very hot, but very good. The Lamb shoulder was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth, excellent flavor. We will definitely be coming back at some point!
Another successful chef restaurant. Joe Flamm pulled a good job after the success with Top Chef. I loved the location, old meatpacking is slowly transitioning to a NYC type of neighborhood. We were a group of 6, they greeted us well. Very nice host lady - and assistance with coats helped. We got seated at the highchairs, which I tend to find very uncomfortable. I understand the hype, but I felt a little rushed when eating and cleaning phases, and I felt like uncomfortable chairs a part of that?? The first course took 20 minutes (no bread- nothing) and literally poured after that every 2 minutes, we were literally done with eating and they came and took our plates within seconds. The nice little talk after dinner before deserts, did not happen. I like the cleanliness and the open kitchen concept. Our table got cleaned every 2-3 minutes. It was just impeccable service on that end. Food Roasted Cauliflowers: 10/10 - must try Zucchini Fritters: 10/10 - another must try Sweet Potato: 10/10 - another must try Pork Ribs Pompanello: 10/10- another must try Grilled Clamps: 4/10- overcooked. Pale - no taste Burek: 3/10- it’s definitely not a burek Rigatoni: 9/10- really good. Ragu was not overpowering. Cevapi: 4/10- Far from being a traditional cevapi.Too much garlic. Duck: I won’t rate duck because it’s not my expertise, my friends said that it was the best duck that they had in their lives. I’m just not a duck person Braided Lamb Shoulder: 10/10 - loved the lentil detail Spaghetti: 10/10 - for me it does not need to be softer Toffee Zelten: 6/10- meeeh Chocolate Budino: 9/10- I think it does not need coffee ice cream Crostata Di Pistachio: 10/10 best thing in this restaurant. Overall it was a joyful experience, I’m not sure if I’ll come again.
We started with the zucchini fritters which were perfectly crisp and a generous portion size. The paprika flavor was strong in the best way, it complemented the soft interior of the zucchini perfectly. The pesto aioli was slightly sweet with a fresh flavor and paired perfectly. The cacio e pepe was the best I’ve ever had. The sauce was thicker than the usual and the shorter noodle shape held it well. This pasta had a stronger cheese flavor vs pepper which I enjoyed because most cacio e pepes are too peppery. The pork ribs were tender and soft and the vinegar sauce was strong and flavorful. Delicious! The ribs were topped with cabbage and yogurt which is essential just coleslaw. If you’re into that, you’ll enjoy it, but it was easy to scrape off. Although we were stuffed at the point we decided to still try dessert. The chocolate budino was a layer of chocolate mousse, a layer of crunch, and then coffee ice cream on top. The combo of ice cream and mousse - two soft foods - didn’t quite work for me but if you enjoy one at a time with the crunch, it worked well. The coffee flavor overpowered the rest of the dessert otherwise. Service was great! Incredibly friendly and helpful and we never felt rushed at the table.
Nice high end restaurant in the Fulton Market neighborhood. I went here with a group of 5 for Restaurant Week. I think having an odd number is key because we got 3 plates of each course instead of two. It was plenty of food. The only thing I thought was interesting is that the menu is prix fixe so they bring you each dish family-style and there are no substitutions. So two people can’t order the pasta, they will automatically bring you pasta and steak. For my group, this was fine because we didn’t have any dietary restrictions and were planing on splitting the meals anyway. First course: The sweet potato’s were nicely roasted with a salty prosciutto sauce. These tuna crudo came with thick slices and each person could have two. It was so tender and the creamy sauce with it was nice. My friend tried the zucchini fritters à la carte and that was good. Crispy and served with a salty herby cream sauce. Second course: The portions for this course were huge! The steak was perfectly cooked and sliced with pink in the middle and crispy charred edges. It was well seasoned and topped with flaky salt. I’m a fan of cacio e pepe and have had it many times in Italy. The sauce was perfectly creamy and peppery. I like my pasta al dente, but this was almost too hard for me. It was to the point where the pasta stuck to my teeth. If it was cooked a minute longer I think it would’ve been perfect. Third course: It was a nice BIG slice of toffee cake with a carmelized buttery sauce. It was served warm with homemade whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. We could barely finish this course either. No notes. Overall, staff was attentive, garage parking nearby, and romantic atmosphere.
Exceptional service. Food is Italian with Croatian twist. Cevapi was good but way too salty. Borek had an interesting presentation- not the normal twisted
Rose Mary is a West Loop gem! We loved sharing the small plates—delicata squash and white duck rigatoni were standout dishes. The espresso martinis are amazing, and the lively atmosphere plus friendly staff make for a fantastic dining experience.
Staff is very friendly. Tuna was my favorite. The cacio E pepe is not traditional, more like a Mac and cheese but is still good. Zuchinni fritters were good. The stracciatella is pretty good. Big fan of the tuna and lamb. The shrimp scampi is good but didn't taste the scampi flavors on it. Liked the wine choices.
I’ve been to this place twice, and this review is based on two experiences. One was fantastic and the other one was average. So, I encourage you to try it and decide for yourself. The atmosphere is fantastic, the service is top-notch! I can tell you that for sure during both of my experiences. However, the food varies. The menu looks amazing, and the varieties and offerings are well balanced with Great ingredients. However, based on the chefs feedback, the food was pretty salty and we couldn’t enjoy it at all. my favourite dishes are the Zucchini Fritters, the braised lamb Saddle (however it was undercooked. So ask for medium well), the Branzino is delicious but also pretty salty!! Beef Cheek Gnocchi was delicious!! The manager came and made it up for us, by removing all the salty items from the Bill. However, I will be hesitant next time to visit given this experience. Top restaurants like this one must have very high standards and consistent experience throughout, as margins are so slim between all those competing restaurants in West Loop.
We finally tried Rosemary after four years of hearing about it. There were two of us and we ordered 4 items plus the tart cherry sorbet, and a bottle of wine. That was enough. Our server Wes was great! He made great recommendations and we enjoyed them all. At the end we were too full to finish our pork rib dish, but it carried well and I enjoyed it the next morning. It had a nice sweet and vinegar sauce. From the menu we had the zucchini fritters--a big hit, the tuna crudo, which I really enjoyed, the lamb mafaldine-yummy, and the strawberry 🍓 stracciatella, which was a melange of stringy cheese and strawberries. I'd go back and try the other half of the menu. I'd definitely check it out. Did it live up to the hype? Not really. But does it ever? Maybe.
This place was ok nothing to rave about. The zucchini fritters and the bread were the best thing on the menu. Pasta was a little too salty and too al dente to be handmade or fresh. The tortellini was delicious but so they were all different sizes and made soo thick, they felt undercooked and chewy
Rose Mary has been on my list for a while, and I finally got to check it out for our anniversary dinner. We made an 8:45 PM reservation but arrived 30 minutes early (you never know what to expect with Chicago traffic). We were hoping to get seated sooner, but no luck. The place was packed! My boyfriend and I ended up hanging out at the Time Out Market Chicago (50% off wine bottles on Wednesday) before heading back. When we walked over, we were seated right away. They recommended 4 dishes for 2 people, but we went with 5 (we were FULL & left with leftovers). They do have you order everything all at once, and then they bring the dishes one by one. We started with the zucchini fritters (highly praised), but we both found them very doughy on the inside and a little too thick. We did love the dipping sauce that came with the fritters, though. The stracciatella was pretty solid. It was rich, milky, and extra sweet from the figs. Nothing mind-blowing. The pork ribs were our favorite. It was tender, flavorful, and had a bit of a tangy flavor profile. The mafaldine (lamb ragu) was good and had a unique texture. Imagine deconstructed lasagna, but in pasta form. Last dish was the cevapi, which I was really excited to try, especially since I was introduced to this dish by a Serbian friend of mine not too long ago. The version at Rose Mary didn't quite hit the spot. The texture was so off, and we were not a fan. At the end of the meal, the server brought us a complimentary vanilla gelato with sprinkles for our anniversary, which was thoughtful. The service was fantastic. The timing between each dish was nice, and plates were swapped for each dish, and our glasses were always filled. While I'm glad I got to experience Rose Mary, I think my high expectations set me up for a slight disappointment. The flavors didn't match the price point for me. The total came out to be over $150 including a surcharge of 4% and tip. The dishes weren't bad, but they also weren't amazing. The interior and vibe of the restaurant are chill, and if you're in the area looking for something new, I think it's worth trying. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
Good food with attentive service. The portions are surprisingly big and many items are heavy like the pastas and risotto, so you will get full easily if you don’t pace yourself. The favorites of the night were the zucchini fritters, shopska salad, and the duck. The shopka salad packed a punch with the pickled tomatoes, and the fresh herbs mellowed it out, and I thought it was very delicious. Definitely the most unique dish in flavor profile we had tried. I found the pastas and risotto to be too thick and heavy and I could only eat a few bites. Especially the cacio e pepe, creamy and very cheesy, I had enough after two bites. Many dishes I would not order again if I returned. And the cost to try was steep. The service was a highlight. Multiple staff members are tending to us, switching our plates, asking if we want more drinks. Large wine selection. I enjoyed the Croatian white and the pinot noir.
This was supposed to be the highlight of my Chicago trip with my girlfriends. I was so excited to dine here because my husband and I are fans of joe flamm from top Chef. We shared 8 items between 4 people, with tip , the bill was just under $400. The experience started off strong with the tuna crudo, endive salad, beets and zucchini fritters....however once we got to the pastas and risottos it was pretty unpleasant. We ordered the cacio e pepe, buccatini, and squid ink risotto. We had to send back the buccatini because it was extremely al dente. The cacio e pepe was al dente too but a tad bit more edible. The squid ink risotto had no depth.. just tasted like salt and maybe some saffron. All three latter dishes were just salt bombs unfortunately. That being said, at least the service was very good, but the food was a miss for me.
I’ve always meant to have dinner at rosemary & walk by it almost everyday on my way to work. So I booked a reservation for a birthday but oh how I regret it. Took 10-15mins to be greeted by our server. No spiel or questions about weather we’ve dined there or allergy’s. Took our order and checked on the table here & there. Food was mediocre at best. Server assistants & food runners were probably the only highlight of the meal. Friendly service from them and attentiveness. Ultimately, it seemed there was a lack of attention to service & overall flavor. Dishes were very basic & for a restaurant with this much hype & price point I expected so much more. Also every server receives a love letter which is a note of the reservation & any notes that may be on there. Skipping the birthday celebration or simply not acknowledging it because again no spiel so never asked if there was special occasion just left a sour taste in my mouth. Would definitely not recommend or think twice of dining here again. Hard pass.
Service and the general ambiance of Rose Mary is so modern with a rustic feel. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and how it should be enjoyed, which was helpful for us first timers. Now to the food. The proteins were phenomenal both the ribs and duck were tender and packed with flavor. I Would definitely return for that, fall off the bone, bite of ribs. However, this is where the phenomenal experience with the food ends. Sides and vegetables lacked the flavor complexities found in the protein. There seemed to be an element missing in each side dish. We were disappointed. Overall, a good experience, unfortunately, we wanted more from the food.
I really wanted to like this place. We had picked it from the restaurant week menu list and were excited to try it. However, almost all aspects of the experience were disappointing. First off, the restaurant week menu is extremely misleading and honestly incorrect. What it lists is not what you get per person for $60 a piece. You only get half or (when going as two), you get what only one of what it lists per person. It was a fine amount of food, but the menu suggests a much better value than what it is and frankly would’ve been even more frustrating if I wasn’t with someone who I regularly share plates with. Additionally, most of the food came out cold, when I don’t believe it should have. The steak was alright. I think it had been sitting for a while before it came to our table. The center pieces were okay, but the pieces farther toward the edges of the plate were completely cold, impossible to cut, and almost crunchy because they were so dried out and stale. I really enjoyed the dessert, but that’s about it. I also think it’s worth noting that you should NOT consider this place for any sort of romantic evening. The ambiance feels like a slightly upscaled college food court.
