Food is really good, a bit expensive but definitely worth it!
Chicken Katsu Curry was phenomenal! Really huge portion on the regular size, I’d probably get the mini and still be full
My new go-to for eating. I’m hooked! Such good food, from high end poke bowls to comfort food, the menu is diverse and every ingredient is fresh and cooked to perfection. Probably the best place in town.
Super good place! Great poké and cooked options. Lots of flavor and the amount you get for the price makes it worth it! Definitely worth a visit, authentic and very similar to the style you would get in Hawaii.
The grilled spam musubis are absolutely addicting especially with the suace! The breaded crispy chicken is very good, tender and crisp! Friendly service, fair pricing along with generous portions. The Musibis for me are the flag ship of what's offered, simple yet very satisfying.
Happy with their food. Had the katsu chicken combo, wish they had bit more sauce options or even self serve. I really hope to try the poke next time, hopefully their portions of protein are fair. The spam musubi was good and they had good drinks selection. Will be back again soon!
This place is as close to Hawaii as it gets in Chico. Speaking for the Garlic Shrimp and Rice Plate combo. I haven’t tried the Poke yet but every-time I come I order the Garlic Shrimp. It never fails to amaze my tastes buds! I would definitely recommend those who love seafood to order this plate it’s jam packed with flavor! But be warned will leave your fingers messy so grab extra napkins and don’t wear white!
They have the best chicken and beef hawaiian barbecue! Not to mention their mac salad. Half chicken and half beef is $12 only and you can have 2-3 meals with their meat serving (I cook more rice at home because rice is life lol). Pro tip: we have spicy Japanese barbecue sauce from Raley's and the combo with the bbq is chef's kiss.
Scrumptious, affordable, and plentiful. Absolutely can’t go wrong here given the staff are speedy, they accept phone orders, and have a good sized menu with plenty of options. There is limited indoor seating and minimal outdoor seating. They also have an assortment of canned and bottled drink options. Keep in mind there is no public restroom. Casual dining although take out is ideal.
Great, fresh poke bowls, made to order. Large portion fried chicken. There are very few tables. Many people take their food to go.
1st time trying this place. Wife wanted a poke bowl so we came here. She got rice, salmon, poke sauce, ginger, imitation crab, cilantro, and so on. They give you quite a bit of food, as they should for $15. Salmon was fresh, bowl was very tasty. I got the bbq chicken and pork combo. Pork was a little dry, but chicken was good. Macaroni salad was good with it. But would I get it again? Probably not. Musubi. Rice, spam, seaweed. Sounds simple but so good. $2.50 to boot. Other kinds were chicken katsu and bbq chicken. Chicken katsu is probably my favorite now. We wanted to eat there but there were so many people packed in there waiting in line, we decided to take our food home. Only couple of tables inside and outside. Overall good experience, will try other things on menu.
First time going here. Service took a few minutes but I clearly walked in on a lunch rush and every employee was working very hard and got to me as soon as possible. My poke was OK. Scoops are certainly smaller than some other poke spots I've been too but there's an OK amount of toppings to pick from. I have to say though the quality of the meats I tried were much better here than other places. Got spam masubi and unfortunately the spam was over cooked and pretty tough. I will definitely go try again, maybe when it's not as busy.
The Hawaiian food was good overall. We ordered two regular beef mixed plates at $17 approx. each. The short ribs were tender and flavorful, but the mac salad was pretty bland and could use some improvement. The location was very clean, which was a nice plus. One downside: they only give one sauce per plate—which feels a bit stingy for the price. It’s a little expensive for what you get, but overall, it was a decent
Food quality and quantity has gone down and price has rocketed. I remember this used to be an affordable place that I would drive out of my way to visit. There is no reason to charge a mini plate for $12 and regular for $16+. This will only drive away your loyal customer base.
Seriously the worst place ever. I ordered just a poke bowl and waited about 30 minutes. Food is mid, staff is unprofessional. I just requested a refund. Horrible service.
Price has gotten out of control, and portion has decreased. This establishment is now more expensive than big citys hawaiian BBQ. A few years ago i would eat here often and now I don't spend a dime. Maybe that's why they started Doordash to help with reduced foot traffic. They are the only hawaiian bbq in town so they control the menu price, the only way to fight price is to stop supporting the business with their manipulative pricing.
While the food at Halo Hawaiian BBQ in Chico is usually ok, I was really disappointed with my last visit. They don't have a restroom, which I can sort of understand for a small place, but what really bothered me was that they didn't have any way for customers to wash their hands. When I asked the staff if I could have place to wash my hands or something, they weren't willing to help at all. They sent me to another business to do that It's just not sanitary, especially for a place serving food. I wont recommend this place to anyone.
I am a long time customer of halos and am so disappointed to write this review. I am moving today so I was running around all day and placed a Togo order for lunch. When I came home and opened the bag that was TIED 3 huge flies came flying out of the bag. I was so turned off by the food immediately and upon closer inspection the container the food was in wasn’t even closed all the way meaning the flies were probably in my food! So gross ! I decided to just take a loss on $16 for the meal. I managed to capture a picture of one of the flies that was stuck in the bag before it flew out . We need to be better about bagging our food. I work in food service so I get being busy and things slipping through the cracks but bugs in food should not be one of them.
