Great local restaurant/bar with array of locals, some of whom have been in the area for generations. Great food and people, only caveat is green beans were cooked with pork (Southern Style) but they replaced it with mashed potatoes on request.

Quaint and friendly restaurant in this small town of Comstock! The lovely waitress was efficient! The food was delicious and drinks cold! We'll be back again when in the area! Today, this last day of October 2025 we were back again and glad to be there! Nancy was or wonderful, happy and friendly waitress who did an amazing job! The food was as yummy as before!!!

Burgers are fantastic! We ALWAYS get the Panther. We, my friend and I, went once after my daughters and their families went. They loved it. As we were returning my friend says" when are we coming again?" It's funny, I was thinking the same thing. So we went a second time, I think it was better than the first time. We just keep craving those burgers! Not to mention the fried mushrooms and pickles. They are amazing.

A little hard to spot sign but right on highway. Had burger and beer great. Nice friendly people easy to talk to. Asked about a place to stay in my camper that night and they just pull around to side and stay there. But there was scenic free spot close I wanted to see. But good spot if you want eat and have a few beers and not drive

Had a jalapeño mayo burger and oh my was it delicious. The beef is the best I've ever had...hands down. I am a fan of tater tots so of course I ordered them as my side but do yourself a favor and GET THE FRIES...they are a lot like the fries we have at our county fairs here in Ohio but way better. This was a great stop on our way to Big Bend from San Antonio. So glad we found it. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Two thumbs way up!!!

The food was good and hot. The french fries are homemade and come out piping hot. The hamburger was absolutely the best. I had some trepidation about the special sauce served with the chips and it was delicious and she was right if you are ever in Comstock you have to stop here otherwise you are missing a real treat.

I've been here a couple times before and the food is DELICIOUS. Even the regular cheeseburger is amazing. Any other burger after that one will never be the same! The friendliest staff I've ever met and even the customers are great as well. It's a very small town where everyone is friends and there's no drama. Stop by if you're ever passing through or nearby! Trust me it's worth it.

Absolutely delicious Devil's burger with sweet potato waffle fries. Cibatta bread instead of a bun so good. Service was outstanding, we dined out back with our dog.

On our way back (six days later) we convinced our friends (who missed it the first time) to do another stop at this place... Everyone was delighted with the meal. I wish I could go there once more, but that's a 16 hours drive... Still hesitating.

Stopped on the way to Big Bend. Throughly enjoyed the hand made paddy, old fashioned burger with all the trimmings and hand cut fresh fries. Everything is fresh! Nothing frozen except for the cheesecake. My wife loved it so much she wanted to go back the same way to get another burger! You will enjoy, nice folks too.

I created my own Burger at J and P's bar and grill. I ordered 2 patties with cheese, grilled onion, mushrooms, bacon and avocado. When they brought it out it was so big I didn't think I could get my mouth around it. (But it was managed) the owners told me i was probably Going to use at least 7 napkins while eating it so I have decide to call that burger the 7 napkin burger. Stick it on the menu boys. It is a smallish place but comfortable and good staff and they serve the best hamburgers and cut fries that I have had while visiting the Great State Of Texas .

When looking for a “hole in the wall” place to eat, this is the definition of it. The BEST burger you’ll find hands down. Definitely worth the stop if passing through or worth the drive if staying nearby.

On the way home from Big Bend National Park, I stopped here with some friends. I had a Heart Attack and it was one of the best lunch experiences of my life!! The atmosphere was super relaxed and the staff was excellent. I would highly recommend everyone come here and have a Heart Attack!

Very small town burger joint in the tiny village of Comstock, Texas, but great enough to be featured in Texas Monthly and Texas back roads. Their best burgers are the swish mushroom and the devils burger but have many, many more options from chicken fried steak to wraps to grilled and fried options.

Wow!!! is all I can say. The Devils burger was hands down one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever had. The food came out quick, waitress was sweet and attentive, tables were clean, good music, and home made everything. If you’re in the area and hungry this is the place to stop.

Staff was friendly and engaging. You can certainly tell the burgers are handmade and the flavors were really good. I liked the fries as well. I had the jalapeno burger which was tasty but not hot. I recommend the short drive to Comstock to check out J&P's.

We stopped in while visiting Seminole Canyon State Park, with 2 kids. Staff were extremely friendly, food was amazing, and atmosphere was friendly. Nothing specific for kids to do, but friendly enough atmosphere and welcoming of kids. There are a few kid options for food, but the menu is huge and tons of variety. Drinks were reasonably priced and plenty of beer options. I had the chicken fried steak and would strongly recommend splitting, but it tasted great.

Quite possibly the best hamburger steak I've ever had. The neat was seasoned perfectly, the white gravy appeared to be homemade and was excellent. The green beans and mashed potatoes were on point, and the grilled jalapeños were the perfect amount of heat. I almost asked for another piece of toast but ran out of gravy to dip it in. First time here, but will definitely be back.

You may not have many choices to eat at in Comstock but that's OK because they have J and P. We timed it right passing through at lunch on our way to Big Bend. Devils, Panther and mushroom Swiss burgers were all awesome. Great fries and onion rings too. Wife's steak fingers were also really good and tender. Definitely worth the stop any chance you get. Staff was also very friendly.

Best Burger I have ever eaten period, burger is juicy, and flavorful, definitely try their devils burger, you wouldn't believe the type of food they serve here, it's unbelievable, you would think that this type of food and service will be somewhere else like San Antonio, but it's in little Ole Comstock, best darn Burger ever, should be best Burger in Texas in my opinion, Very Highly Recommended.

No restaurant around for miles. Food was super good, the devils burger was really good and so where the fries. It wasn't as spicy as it described it. Place looks decent, if you see alot of cars outside is because food is good and it's the only place around. Free Wi-fi was included, for us who use Verizon and have no service. Staff was super quick to help me out.

Best burger for miles around. I especially like their Devils River Burger. $1 keystone drafts. Very friendly waitresses. Play even have a waitress that is from France where they cute French accent. If you're driving from del Rio call before you go to make sure their open.

It is a must stop place if you are on that route/road. Didn't except to find such awesome quality food in place where you have only 1 eatery. As a tourist, it was a really pleasant find. Though it may look like a small size establishment from outside, service and food quality would give run to any well established restaurants in big city. Note: Do not go by look of bread they use. You will be pleasantly surprised how wonderful it taste.

It might be the only food stop for miles, but that doesn't mean you have to settle for less. This place had a unique selection of burgers to choose from and what we received was really good. Perfect fill up after five hours of driving, and more than enough food to hold us over for five more.

One of the best burgers and rings we’ve had. It was fresh, hot, juicy and the seasoning was perfect. I had the classic. Husband had the avocodo. We both added a little of the jalapeno cilantro mayo. Wish I would have taken pics of the food. But 3 of us had the burgers with fried okra and my daughter had the steak fingers. The burger patties were nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked, done without being dry. The bun was a perfect match for the patty, I like a good meat to bread ratio. Fried okra was also cooked well. The steak fingers were so delicious making some of us wish we ordered the chicken fried steak! We stumbled across this place while driving from Big Bend to Houston. The staff were all very friendly but the waitress we had was the only one working and she was absolutely amazing!! We're not used to getting that kind of service in Houston with several wait staff. Keep up the good work and delicious food!!

We are staying nearby at the State park and went there for dinner. May have been the best burger me and my wife have ever had. We heard others talking about the food and they were spot on a great meal to be had. I even purchased one of their t-shirts to take back to Canada with me.

Tour guide from Seminole Canyons 7 mile hike highly recommended the restaurant! The winds the day of our trip had us change plans for the evening. We started off with fried mushroom and a cold one. I got the chicken strips with tots and onion rings, he got the hamburger steak with the toppings, mashed potatoes and fried okra. I stopped in this place a few years back and got steak fingers which were fresh and homemade. Haven’t stopped thinking about them since. I am tempted to take the 7hr drive to get more. Hopefully they are still just as good.

The building is a bit dated but with a really local down home diner feel. We had the burgers. Outstanding! Home made onion rings were the best my wife ever had. Burgers were great and the buns seemed home made and were delicious. We'll definitely stop there again if we pass through.

Great stop if you’re camping at Seminole Canyon State Park. The steak fingers are so tender, the burgers are juicy, and the fries and onion rings are homemade (not frozen). It’s especially convenient if you’re traveling with a dog since dogs are allowed on the patio out back. Solid food, relaxed atmosphere, and a perfect spot if you’re wanting to leave the park for a bit. Highly recommend.

AMAZING burger, amazing sweet potato fries, amazing fries. Patron this place if you want amazing food in the middle of your tiring drive. The reviews don't lie on this one. Better than any burger or fries I've had so far in Austin. It was quiet when we visited in the middle of a weekday, when things could be expected to not be as fresh, but it WAS fresh and amazingly delicious. My wife and I ate there. We both had different burgers that were great! The buns had terrific flavor and the fries tasted very fresh. Burger it self was hand made. The building looks a bit rough nothing fancy inside but the food was excellent. The waitress was by herself but did the best she could. Definitely would eat there again if I'm ever back in the area.

What a great find!! Drove by here many times on my way to El Paso and Del Rio but never stopped. Seemed too remote to have good food. Boy was I wrong! They are rated by Texas monthly and Netflix as having some of the best burgers and onion rings in Texas. The only thing better than their food is the service. Tawni is friendly and professional. Talks to you like she's been your friend for life. You wouldn't know it, but it can get crowded too. Tonight they having a live band and dance. Too bad we already had plans or we'd go. Do yourself a favour and stop by. Don't be put off by the rustic appearance outside. You'll thank me later!

While doing some documentary photos on the pecos river today. We asked a local fisherman the best place to eat in del Rio. His response, "the best place in del Rio is in Comstock, j and p's, get the devil's burger and don't take off the paper or you'll be wearing it" so based on his advise we tried it. I'm glad we did. It was a VERY good burger, fresh made (not frozen), good jalapeno bread and crispy fries. All in all, VERY good. The local guy was right about the paper too... If not for the paper around the burger, it would have been all down the front of my shirt... Very "hole in the wall, out in the sticks" atmosphere, just like i like it. 2 burgers, 2 fries and two drinks..$32.00. Highly recommended!!

We camped at Seminole Canyon State Park for 3 nights just before the new year and had forgotten to thaw out some meat for dinner. A lady at the state park visitor center told us about J and P. My husband and 2 dogs waited for me so I got a to go order. They were a little busy didn't have much staff. Making sure to let me know it would be a little bit of a wait, they took my drink order and gave me those. Even offered me a refill once I got my order. It didn't really take too long. The man and woman working there were super nice and working hard to take care of all the customers. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. We both got avocado burgers with fries. They were amazing. The ingredients and cibatta bun were so fresh! We will definitely return when in this area!

This little restaurant served one of the best mushroom Swiss burgers I ever ate!! The meat was outstanding, the ciabatta bun was soft and perfectly heated, the French fries are fresh-cut and the onion rings were crispy with a perfect batter! I wish it wasn't so far away!!

What a great restaurant. We got appetizers (fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, and chips & salsa) and they were all great. I got the Panther Burger that had sliced ham on it and it was delicious. The fries were homemade and extra good. We’ll definitely be back.

What an unexpected gem. This little spot definetly made my top weekend eating. We stopped in with several other motorcycle riders and had a great dining excsperiance. I had the heartattack with tator tots, and my wife had the mushroom and swiss. The menu description of the heartattack does it no justice. When this monster is in front of you, your staring down the barrel of 2 grilled cheese sandwiches as the bun and 2 giant beef patties covered in more cheese. It doesnt even show the pickles, onions and other veggies. The tots were very well cooked and not over salted. The mushroom swiss was a wonderful hit as well. The owner took time to talk with us and let us know about a fishfry May the 1st 2021 We come here annually and will definetly be back. Thanks for the hospitality and great food

Friendly home town bar and grill. Burger had spectacular flavor...bun, meat extras. Beef was too lean for a burger, needs a binder...kept crumbling. Sweet potato fries were the best Ive ever had. Altogether, a great place to stop.

Great spot for burgers. Fries were great. Onion rings are #2 on places to get them imo..... they were just missing a little seasoning or something to make them #1. Devil's burger was awesome. Chicken fried steak was ok.. get the burger instead in my opinion. Fried pickles were a little greasier than i would prefer but still good. Wife had chalupas 1 nite and loved them. Chips and hot sauce was great, could've been Spicer but great flavor.

It was a very friendly, quiet place with good hot food and some good wine. Our whole group had a great time eating and talking amongst ourselves. The staff was amazing and the restaurant was clean from what I seen. Hand sanitizer was right by the door if you want or need it. We were too hungry to take pictures of our food.

Stopped in traveling to Terlingua. I have to say what a great surprise. We were just hoping for any kind of bite, but instead found a truly awesome burger joint. Then my buddy surprised me by ordering fried okra. We both had Devils burgers with tots and onion rings plus the okra. Everything was excellent!

Great place to stop for lunch if, for some reason, you are traveling through Comstock, TX. Their chips and salsa are fresh made and very good. Burgers are delicious and seem to be made from top quality meat, bun, etc. Diablo Burger is particularly good. Fries are fresh cut, not too thick but not too thin, cooked perfectly. On past visits, have had chicken fried steak or tacos and they were very good.

Loved the steak hamburger special! Good service and I overheard the manager talk about live music some week nights!

Great place to eat with friends or family. Groups welcome here.

I’ve heard a lot about this place since I’ve been here, so I went to give it a try. The place looks like an old gas station, which gives the place a certain charm. The downside, the inside smells like cigarette smoke. The staff were GREAT. Super attentive and friendly. The food was good, the burgers come wrapped in paper for a good reason, they are so juicy the grease flows freely out of the bottom. The fries were good as well, I just wish they were more crisp. Overall, a good place for lunch.

This is a burger place in the smack dab middle of nowhere. It will be good, as there are no other options. I got the burger, which was great. My wife got the chicken fried steak, which was lacking. The fried steak was thin - too thin. The cream gravy seemed to have been made with chicken stock - it was good. Go for the burger and you won't go wrong. Tip - if you order a coke, you are paying by the can. Want a refill, it costs you another can.

Service says it all. 3 stars due to the wait staff losing our order AND having us wait over 1 1/2 hours for our order. There were only 4 in our party and only 2 other tables with patrons. Nothing crazy ordered, just burgers off the menu. Food it self was exceptional, especially the onion rings. after waiting and hour we asked wait staff where our food was. This is when we found out that our order had been "misplaced". Come on you're not that busy!! Perhaps they were too distracted by the conversation they were involved in, who knows. Good food, average service.
