Avis sur Hallie's Diner Cotati
Spontaneous stop after coming from Point Reyes and ended up being one of favorite meals. Lively and friendly Hallie’s had excellent service and delicious food. We loved the steak and eggs and breakfast burrito. Love the diner feel and the great service that makes it all come together! Highly recommended
Small but clean and airy. Additional breakfast choices include three specials plus not-your-usual Mexican dishes. We had the Maya Tipico from the regular menu and the Tamales and Eggs from the specials menu. Both came.with eggs to order and black beans. Maya Tipico came with mango salsa atop cooked plantains--nice combination of tart and sweet. Tamales and Eggs, similarly but a different type of savoriness and tanginess. Wish I had seen the espresso menu before I ordered coffee--no remarkably different choices, but I prefer espresso drinks. Friendly and attentive service, and not at all cloying.
The best breakfast or lunch in Petaluma. The meatloaf is amazing. Breakfast crushes it. The staff are friendly and work together. What a great gift to Petaluma.
Friend from Petaluma invited us here, lovely food and staff. Everything looked tasty, coffee was good - I had decaf and hubs had regular- both were good. We drink medium/dark at home and both liked our cups of coffee here. I had the breakfast enchilada (?) and it was delicious- loved the sauce over the top. Hubs had a Benedict and cleared his plate. He's not picky, but will leave his plate if it's just *meh*. I didn't get a chance to try the hollandaise if you get my drift.
Very very verrrrry Petaluma in the best of ways. Cozy, comfy, great diner food with lovely wait staff. Easy peasy to order, not a long wait, simply great food at very affordable prices. I enjoyed my French toast and fruit, and tried my first ever cornmeal pancake here. Loved it!!!!
Made a special effort to go to this restaurant.... Had read about their plantain rum soufflé and the cornmeal pancakes. The two dishes did not disappoint. Please be aware that the soufflé requires 35 minutes or so prep time. Service was great with frequent check ins and coffee refills while we waited for the soufflé. Parking lot is very small, but there is a garage across the street.
They have adapted well to COVID. Take out or patio seating is available in their parking lot. Umbrellas for shade and nice music make the experience perfect. I recommend the cinnamon French toast for brunch.
I’ve been going to Hallie’s for over 10 years now, I have yet to have a bad experience. The staff is warm and friendly, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere feels like home. Perfect for the family or for solo dining - don’t be afraid to grab a seat at the bar if the tables are full or you’re on your own!
This great little marvel is an integral piece of legend in Petaluma. The food is high quality, well prepared and served by attentive and kind help. You are just as likely to see old farm community families as well as Hollywood film stars tucked in to comfortable seating. Iconic Northbay establishment.
Great diner with wonderful service - you feel welcomed, and like the people serving you actually care. Once again, I ordered my standard huevos rancheros and these are close to the top of my favorites list: nicely seasoned black beans, a wonderful mango salsa, as well as an excellent ranchera sauce. Also garnished with a nice amount of sour cream and perfectly ripe avocado slices. I will try the potato pancakes sometime, really!, I just love huevos so much! Check this place out - can't recommend it highly enough.
Great diner. Homemade corned beef hash. Service was perfect and it's cute to see the waitresses bantering with all the regulars.
A Petaluma Institution. If you live in South Sonoma County this place is a must stop for breakfast. Hearty servings with full espresso bar. All the breakfast Mainstays are available. You will not be disappointed.
Perfect in every possible way! Too bad it's so popular. I love their strawberry waffles, but there's always bit of a line. Word spreads fast about this wonderful place. The wait is worth it, believe me.
Totally forgot to get a photo of the food! Had the hot link scramble. Family got the meatloaf and another the turkey sandwich. The food was SO good. And hardy portions as well. I look forward to going back
Love Hallie’s! They have that old town vibe with super hearty and good food! Hallie’s reminds me of my childhood and really brings out the diner vibes! Plus, they are dog friendly with their outside dining! 5/5 stars for sure!
The burger and chicken tacos were great. The burger my spouse got needed a to go box.. Huge.
Best place in Petaluma for breakfast. We have been coming here for the last 10 years and always get great service and delicious food.
We always stop here for breakfast on our drive up to Sea Ranch. Wonderful local spot with great food and friendly vibe. Got the eggs over easy and sausage. Cup of black coffee to wake me up. Five 🌟
Wow, this place is a gem. The turkey sandwhich was exaxtly what I wanted with thick sliced turkey. The eggs fluffy and delightful. Everything we had was simply but perfectly done. Highly recommend.
Giant portions. I had the 3-egg skillet, and it came with a lot of trimmings. But I had to box up half of it and save for the next day's breakfast, the food was so much. Total, with the large orange juice, was about $22. I'll go again!
Consistently the best breakfast in Sonoma County. Pancakes are always soft, never gummy. Nothing beats their fresh squeezed orange juice and breakfast potatoes. Only thing I don't like is their coffee. But I never care because everything else is stellar. Always.
We arrived to Hallie's and were seated right away. Everyone was super friendly, topped off our water and coffee often, and our food was brought to us hot and in adequate time. We will definitely be back again.
We've been coming to Hallie's for about 5 years every time we visit family in Petaluma and have never been disappointed. It's a classic small town, casual cafe where the staff are friendly and the food is good. There is a reason why the line to get in can get long!
Really enjoyed the breakfast here. We split the corned beef hash and salmon scramble and they were both delicious. The staff were so attentive and kind. We would love to go back again 6/5 stars if it were possible.
We’ve been coming here for years now and Hallie’s has proven itself to be consistent and reliable. All the items we order are delicious and arrive hot. The waffle and the omelets are particular favorites of mine. On busy weekend mornings there can be a bit of a wait but it’s always worth it.
First time eating here and I was pleasantly surprised. I had the breakfast burrito and potatoes and my boyfriend had French toast eggs and bacon and they didn’t disappoint. We will definitely be back! Also, the subtle music playing outside was definitely a highlight and made the breakfast environment very enjoyable!!!!!!
Sweet little diner in downtown Petaluma with super friendly and lovely staff, and amazing food as well. I love coming here and trying new things every time; the crab-cake benedict special they have sometimes is really really good! I once came here with my dad and wasn’t feeling particularly hungry, so I ordered an inexpensive bowl of fruit and was absolutely astonished at how much they brought out; fresh too. This is an amazing place!
Food....breakfast was delicious. I had the Salmon scramble with potatoes and boy was it good. Also ordered the cornmeal pancakes...another yum vote. Service was attentive. Not a bad thing to say. Price also reasonable.
Everything was great! The food was excellent and the service was too. Would definitely come here again.
Stopped in spur of the 7am moment and was treated like a regular, which everyone else was! Great corned beef with two pitched eggs, rye toast jam and yum! Service was great, homey and relaxed. For sure give it a try!
Unbelievably good! Everything is fresh and cooked perfectly. I love seating at the bar counter!
We've eaten at Hallie's many times. They have a great breakfast in. Breakfast is my favorite meal.
Amazing food and people, my wife and I favorite spot to go to. A place that brings you back in time where people treat you the way you would treat others
Old school charm and super nice staff. Food was excellent. If you are looking for breakfast food(not brunch) lol. This is your place
Good breakfast! there coffees really good! Good service friendly staff!
Had a great breakfast. The avocado/black bean omelette and Greek omelette are both excellent. The home fries are new potatoes sliced thinly with just the right amount of onions. Bottomless coffee/decaf too. Highly recommend!
Was just wandering the streets of downtown Petaluma and saw this small diner. Right away had a fantastic experience. My wife is celiac and the waitress was so good with explaining and understanding the need for caution. Once the food arrived, it was so delicious and great sizing! Definitely recommend.
A familial and nice place! Highly recommend their greek omelettes. The staff is very kind and the environment super nice! The menu is also pretty vegetarian friendly!
One of my favorite little diners. Great food at very reasonable prices. My daughter loved the giant fruit salad she got with her pancakes and it was ready quick for me to take home and enjoy. I've ate there many times but this time I ordered to go. So 3 people breakfast and the total was 40 before tip. Not bad for three great breakfast meals!
Love their Eggs Petaluma with spinach and sourdough. It's delicious and quite unique. Staff is fantastic and so friendly. Petaluma at it's best!!
Had brunch here today with my daughter and we were lucky to get seated right away as it’s a popular spot, especially on weekends (opted for outdoor seating rather than wait for a booth). I ordered a scrambled egg skillet and my daughter had a Greek omelette. Both were excellent!
Very good service. I accidentally ordered something I am allergic to. The lady is able to accept the return and help me to order something I can eat. Long waiting line. The food may take a while to come out.
This is where you want to go. Not only is the food delicious, with many options on the menu as you can see from the pictures, but the service is incredible and some of the friendliest I've ever experienced. The staff works as a team so you never wait for anything you need. Don't be intimidated if you drive by and there is a small crowd out front,it's worth it in the way it does not take that long. The corned beef hash pictured is delicious and the chicken sausage with cornbread pancakes was a great choice that we would get again.
Good food, clean and quaint diner, and awesome service at fair prices. I really liked the fresh cut flowers at each table. The coffee was a bit weak, but it wasn't bad.
Local town favorite. Typical wait of about 15 minutes for a table for a late breakfast. American style breakfast options were good, though there blueberry pancakes could how have been grilled a minute longer as inside was on mushy side. Wait for food took longer than expected, but the pleasantness and attentiveness of the wait staff made up for it. Cappuccino was a disappointment, if you like real barista beverages, than stick to basic coffee here and get your Starbucks/Peet's/Acres after.
Fantastic place that appears to be a local favorite. Food was excellent and the staff treated us like regulars. Really quick food delivery and tons of menu options.
Monday breakfast before my stretch session. Coffee, OJ, hash and an English muffin...Fantastic! The ladies waiting tables were incredibly efficient, friendly and beyond helpful while watching them work with a few difficult customers. Class acts! Very Very good! Excellent breakfast experience. Bravo waitstaff!
The food was excellent! The service outstanding. I had the biscuits and gravy. The portion was just right and the fact it included hash browns and eggs made it a complete breakfast. The side order of bacon was crispy. The staff was always interacting with the customers. It was so good I had breakfast there twice during my stay
Hallie's diner is a nice place to get breakfast/brunch. It's situated very close to the Petaluma market (pretty cool grocery show btw). If street parking is a pain for you, consider the 4 hour free parking right across the street from Hallie's. The food was pretty good, I feel they had enough options for brunch. We got a Maya Tipico and Biscuit with gravy. I enjoyed the meal but also realized that I am not a big fried plantain fan. Their juices were also fresh especially the orange one! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor seating being prettier as it is clear from the pictures! We had to wait almost half an hour to get an outdoor table though, so I would suggest making a reservation.
Such a cute place with delicious food! I got the cranberry turkey sandwich with a side salad. Very fresh ! Pictured below is half of the sandwich with side salad, and their delicious latte ☕️.
Stopped by here on our way home from a vacation and we were pleasantly suprised! I had the daily special the croissant with sausage and my husband had the french toast and said it was great! Glad we found this place!!

The owner, Jen, is so warm and welcoming, she makes this place a true gem for Petaluma. The rest of the staff is fantastic too. Excellent food, quick service, relaxed ambiance. Feels like our second home. We’re so lucky to have this place in our town. Recommend!!
Wow! What a treasure! A diner that's not greasy and offers healthier food. The servers are amazing. Pumpkin blueberry pancakes! Potatoes that are fresh, flavor with an optional dollop of sour cream. Wonderful Greek omelet with fresh spinach. I'd be here everyday if I could.
Been going to Hallie's Diner for over 20 years. Great food! Love the black bean, avocado, and cheese omelet. The absolute best!
Excellent breakfast and coffee. Service was outstanding. Atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. Lovely outside tables. I'll be back.

Service a bit slow during peak hours but extremely friendly. The plantain soufflé takes ~45 minutes, so place your order early in the meal if you are interested. It's a decadent ending to breakfast to share with friends, but be aware that you do taste the rum.
Beautifully situated right next to Petaluma Market where we like to shop, Hallie's is a lovely old-style diner with booths, tables and a counter. The menu has all the regular breakfast items plus corned beef hash, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal & syrup. We elected to have cafe au lait, served in large bowl-like cups and blueberry muffins hot from the oven. Being quite crowded there was quite a wait. Overall a great breakfast spot with super friendly wait people; also outdoor tables with heaters available.
Sat at the counter. The place was pretty busy. Waited a while (5-10 min) before we got attended to. Good food and atmosphere made up for the delay. I'd go there again.
Food was delicious, we got there at just the right time to sit immediately although it got a rush right after. We sat outside and made fast friends with the sweetest German shepherd (who may have won himself a side a bacon) and that was definitely the highlight. The country potatoes were righteously smothered in cheese and delicious and burger came with sautéd onions.
This place is great, but because it's so great, it's always packed. There isn't a comfortable area for waiting either. Those aren't really things they can help and are actually testaments to the good food, but it does take away from the experience. When you are seated though, it's a lovely time. Good food as I mentioned, and the wait staff is sooo friendly. They're the perfect amount of attentive too - not too much or too little. That's hard to find.
Classic place and great simple food for a breakfast diner, but has gotten super expensive.
Nice place with booths. The avacoado omelette with black beans and salsa is exceptional. Really good items on menu and fresh squeezed orange juice. The bacon is great quality cooked very well. Lunch is outstanding with daily soups and chili, quality sandwiches with fruit, green or potatoe salads. It's a comfortable place to eat, very clean, cute clean bathrooms.
Not the best attitudes from the staff matron. One employee was inappreciably manic about the arrival of a man to the point of disturbing and most certainly took away from the meal that I was having. It was also disturbing how the staff seemed to fall apart because most of the seats were filled. Isn't that what you want? If you cannot handle having a full house then, you may struggle to be successful. The decor presented as if it did not know what to do with itself. Is it a fifties joint? A pleasant, flowery space that brings you to your inner meadow? A place for the emotionally unstable to feel free? This could be, since the mugs resemble what one might use in a "controlled" environment. The food was really good. Came in twenty minutes, why would a waffle and one of the specials take so long??? Eight, guys. Eight. The potatoes were perfect, the pork chops had the best flavor and the eggs were cooked correctly. I have had phantom tastes from this breakfast since! Again though, I tried to compliment and the Matron got all kinds of defensive. There's no pleasing some people. Cost was nominal as far as I am concerned. Travelling the West Coast, I think the prices here were keeping in time with the standard. Parking was odd, though. Watch for this as it may be an issue, especially if you are travelling with the infirm or partially ambulatory.
Classic diner experience. Friendly wait staff, cult breakfast classics, locals spot for family breakfast. In general diners don't serve the healthiest break considering the ingredients and how the food is prepared. For this reason, I'd go back to Hallie's again for breakfast but will look at other options first.
Overrated and overpriced, not terrible, but mediocre at best. The Waitress asked my friend and me what we ordered, listened to him, refilled his coffee, then walked away like I had just vanished...Made for a great laugh, but certainly rude and juvenile to act so swoon. I'm not offended by it, it's just how it is there, someone else might be. Avoid if can, if you're desperate....go for it!
Sat outside with my do under their covered patio as their two front tables were occupied. Ordered a cup of coffee and a Mediterranean omelette with cheddar cheese instead of feta. Only option with vegetables and ordering add ons super expensive. Over $3 for tomatoes in your omelette? And an order of bacon well cooked. Coffee. Better tasting than gas station coffee, but not much more and it was super watered. Despite the lackluster coffee, I was tired so it would have been nice if the waitress would have at least offered 1 refrill. Nope. Onto the food:The omelette - the egg .- ok, spinach was good, the mushrooms were slimy and gross. They may have started out fresh as opposed to a can but obviously they had been cooked days and have sitting in slimy mess. Home fries. Mushy, no flavor, just not good. After the 2nd bite, I was a big no. Toast dry and barely any butter and they don’t offer you additional butter. The bacon was very good and cooked perfectly evenly well done. That was the only good item. Still pricey and I am used to expensive prices.
First of all the eggs Benedict is great, Husband ordered breakfast burrtio it had no flavor .the service is horrible , we had to track down someone for a refill or other order issues twice. We have been here several times where waitress was rude . It is a bit expensive, but what is the these days
Food was not the best. Sausage was bland and flavorless, as were the eggs. Asked for no cheese in my breakfast burrito and got it anyway, didn't notice until a few bites in. Lactose intolerance didn't appreciate that. It was busy when we came by but it still took nearly 45 minutes for the two of us to get our small meals. Ran out of water and waitress didn't come by for another 15 minutes. Just a disappointing experience, especially for nearly $40 for two people.
I just looked up somewhere based on reviews in the area and stumbled across this Diner. Had high hopes but it definitely wasn’t worth the 4.5 stars or $55 for two people. Biscuits and Gravy tasted weird and sour and my bacon came out cold and rock hard. The chicken sausage in the omelette looked and smelled like cat food. Also our waitress didn’t come back to us u til she gave us the bill. I really don’t know why it was rated 4.5 stars. Cute diner but it’s just for looks.
Flavors weren't great. The herbs on the Eggs Petulama were stale and the corned beef hash had way too much black pepper. Portions were on the small side and my daughter was still hungry after eating her very very small kid's pancake. Pancake batter is super cheap - why skimp? Orange juice was good though and people were nice, but overall dissappinting. Won't be back.
While the food is decent you’re paying high prices for very little food. Ordered the corned beef hash and it was about half the portion you would expect to get at any other restaurant. It didn’t even come with toast. I would not recommend coming here if you’re hungry or care about getting your money’s worth.

Great food but oh my god the portions are small and the service is terrible. After you wait outside for half hour they take forever to bring food, staff is unfriendly, unhelpful, with no sense of humor. Didn’t offer any crayons and paper for the kids, didn’t not bother to ask if we enjoyed our food, if we needed anything, if we wanted more coffee, dessert, etc. our empty plates just sat on the table until we left! We felt neglected and rushed, like we were bothering them by just being there. Also, their interior and decor are completely outdated and feel very old and unkept. Will never go back!
This is a comfortable place, but I don't know why it has such good reviews. My waffle was thinking and hard, like it had been microwaved. Rest of are meals were not warm enough. 2 servers were ruled and harried.
Food is on par with any basic "diner", but for us the service was pretty bad. We waited around 15 mins for a table, which is fine, but it then took around 50 mins before our food arrived. I'm 90% sure they completely forgot the order because it arrived 5 mins after I asked what the ETA was.
I wanted to like this place, I really did. Workers are VERY nice, and it's kinda cute, if modest. But the "poached" eggs were boiled solid, and the corned beef hash (from a can, or tasted like it) was cooked to death, as well. My wife's omelette was more acceptable.
I’ve honestly never been to a bad breakfast spot before. But the food here is absolutely terrible. 14 of us ate here and every single thing except for bacon and eggs were just not good. The pancakes were the worst I’ve ever had in my life and everyone else at the tables. It was like mush texture and tasted raw. And this was after we ordered 3 full stacks of 3 which is a whopping $12 each too. Like if you just got a box pancake mix from any store it would be so much better. The meatloaf was not edible. It was like breadcrumbs had a sale and meat is not available. The apple chicken sausage was so tasteless it was just like eating texture. The steak and eggs steak was tough and chewy. Even the whole wheat toast was terrible, I don’t even know how you do that. But they did it. $230 for our food and mannnn. I wish we went to dennys. It would’ve been so much better. The service was very good though, that’s the two stars. And the diner itself is cute. But food wise I’ve never been so disappointed in a typical breakfast spot. The craziest part is it’s so busy, I guess because it’s the closest breakfast spot around the hotel.

It took 40 minutes to get our order. The couple behind us got their order before us and they came in after us. One of the waitresses came by to see how everything was. Told her the food was great, once we got it. She apologized, said that they were really busy. I asked for our bill to be discounted, she said that she could not do that. I said that it was unacceptable that we had to wait that long to get our food. She said that we would not have to pay the bill.
Had to wait 40 minutes to get our food, couple that came in after us got their order before ours. Waitress came by, saw that we did not have our food yet. She said that she didn't know what happened to our order, it should be out soon. We got our food then, it was v highery good. Another waitress came over to see how everything was. The food was good, but it took a long time to get it. She said they were busy. I said well that we not happy that we had to wait 40 minutes for our food. Asked for a discount off our bill, she said she could not do that. She said that we didn't have to pay the bill. Will not be going back.
If I could leave zero stars, I would. My partner and I just went to eat there and initially noticed the large amount of flies inside the diner. When we got our food I’d taken a few bites before realizing that my home fries had fleas in them. I felt sick and couldn’t keep eating. My partner stopped eating too and we called the waiter over. When I told her there were fleas in the fries she told me that I was mistaken, that they were actually just flies. But I was certain that they were fleas and I told her so. She said nothing, just picked up the dish and walked it behind the counter, slamming it down in the sink with a crash. We both decided it would be best to leave at that point. The bill came out to nearly $45 for a hamburger and a chicken quesadilla. As soon as we got home we both started having severe stomach pain- bathroom adventures ensued.
Extremely rickety card tables, for outdoor dining. Coke can blew over in wind and, reaching for it, full cup of orange juice went all over table, and myself. Staff didn't help at all: Asking owner what to do with can and soaked napkins brought no response, and was forced to go search for a trash can that I finally located - the dumpsters in the parking lot of the diner. Orange juice wasn't replaced. Later, one of their 6-to-7 ft umbrellas fell over and landed on me while eating an omelet, thankfully missing the table. Food and coffee were okay - although nothing that I'd return for. The events of our experience there and the lack of care from high staff was extremely disappointing.
The worst experience EVER in any restaurant! If I could give a minus one star I would! We saw our server twice; once when he took our order and once when he brought the food (approx 45 minutes after we ordered, maybe even longer, and the people in the booth next to us received their food 5 minutes after we did and were seated about 30 minutes after us). No one came near us, apologized for the horrible service and snail pace on the food (and yes we bathed and used deodorant) or acted like they cared! I had to ask for more coffee as no one offered us anything after taking our order! Stunning! I ordered biscuits and gravy- the biscuit was almost raw in the middle, grossly doughy and I actually couldn’t even cut it with my fork. When I told them, no one even apologized! We are still amazed they are still in business! The thing is, stuff happens but you still take care of your customers and if you communicate they are usually going to understand. To ignore them is not forgivable! Ugh!
Very disappointed by how my family was treated today while at Hallie’s. Let’s just say, “I felt” that I was the wrong shade for the owners liking (or atleast I thought she was the owner). She was rude and not friendly to us while she laughed, hugged and kissed her regular patrons. Gotta love Petaluma!!! Our food took forever and she basically just dropped the food and did an about face immediately. I was quiet surprised by the way we were treated since she seemed very nice when we first came in? Never again based on how the owner treated us. And to be fair… the food was good…
Went on a Sunday morning and it was understandably busy, but don't bother going with a large family. The manager just seats smaller groups ahead of you and tells you she doesn't know when she can seat you.
This was the worst meal we have had and we were starving. Service was slow and inattentive. Food finally came out and was freezing cold, waffle was terrible and flatter than any pancake I’ve seen. They failed on every level. Offered to nuke the plate (in the microwave?) when i told them it was Cold, yeah ill just starve.go down the street to saxs its worth waiting. This place failed in every aspect and we will never be returning nor recommending, do better. .
This diner has been a staple in my husband’s family. I really want to like this place but the service today was lackluster. The waitress (shoulder length brown hair) who took our order today wasn’t very friendly, she checked in AFTER we finished eating and another server took care of our coffee refills, while our server was smiling and chatting up all the regulars. Word of advice: be hospitable to everyone not just your favorites. I could have become a regular but now I’ll just frequent the tea shop and steer my friends away from here when I’m in town. Never again, hard Pass!
Our server took our order and just never came back. Then we waited 45 minutes for worse than mediocre food. I didn’t huevos rancheros was supposed to be watery? Overall it was probably the worst breakfast I’ve had in Petaluma and I’m so disappointed in the food and the service.
