We were highly recommended this place. I decided to go for a birthday meal yesterday with my partner and we cannot recommend this lovely gem enough! The food was absolutely stunning full of flavour and very filling! Portion sizes were generous too. The staff were delightful and nothing was too much. We will definitely be back.
On a cold and frosty night we were looking for something nice and hot to eat. What a great choice by going g into the Turkish Kitchen. The staff were welcoming and help us in the food choices. The food and wine was fantastic the spicy chicken pot was great. Not too spicy and full of favour. The other dish was on the bone lamb shank and mash. The lamb just fell off the bone and no knife was needed. The food came quickly after the order and was super hot the wine helped too. Finished off with some lovely Turkish tea. Overall a great meal experience 😋
We didn't have a reservation (you should make one) and we were at first told they didn't have a spot for us. Then as we were standing outside using my phone to look for another spot, the woman came out and said she'd see what she could do. We got a booth and were told we just had to leave in a timely fashion. We ordered the Sea Bass but luckily the waiter must not have heard as it wasn't given to us- we were sated without it and were happy it didn't arrive. We did have a Turkish feta salad. It was a large portion and was good. We also shared a Vegetarian Guvec which was delicious, particularly the aubergines [eggplants] in it. I had a glass of red which was a generous pour and tasted fine.
Had dinner here with my family. The food were fabulous. Had mezes to share. The portions for two-to-share was like a meal itself. Had a wonderful time of trying the various meze combinations. The mains ordered were chicken shish and kleftico. The grilled chicken was very tender with a lingering smoky aroma. The slow cooked lamb shank was succulent and so tender that it fell off the bone easily. Pairing with Yakut, a Turkish red wine, completes this heavenly meal. Service was warm and friendly. There was almost no wait for the food. Strongly recommended. (apologies for the photos as there was a huge red neon behind our table)
Very nice food. We had a lunch menu and kids menu. Big value for money. 👍 Pleased about visiting this place. Hikmetulla was very good 👍
My friend and I decided to try somewhere new for dinner and we were not disappointed. The staff were super friendly and helpful and Yugen made sure to help my friend with her lactose intolerance when looking through the menu. The food was delicious and well presented, and the wine recommendation was perfect. I will definitely be going back again in the future
5 stars for the nice Grilled Salmon with lots of vegetables, and the garlic free hummus 👍 Thank you !!
Greeted with a warm welcome. Lunch menu is excellent value for money. Quick service. Food is well presented. Portions are so big. My wife struggled to finish her Turkish Feta salad. Good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to offer which are reasonably priced for the city centre. With definitely return when we are next in Durham!
Great selection of food with authenticity at a prime location in Durham. Must try their mixed platter as it tasted yum. Price is bit on higher side yet is acceptable due to the quality and quantity they provide.
Staff are so lovely and attentive and made us feel welcome the moment we stepped through the door! We were deciding where to go for food and seen the special lunch menu they had advertised outside. It was our first time and won’t be our last! We got Tzatziki, calamari and hummus to start and it was delicious! Very fresh and quick turnaround. For our mains, I got a stuffed aubergine dish alongside some stir fried veg and my boyfriend got a stuffed bell pepper dish. All were huge portions and amazing value for money. I can’t wait to return!!
Got myself spicy sausage and beef mousakka. The spicy sausage was so tasty I think it would be perfect if I had ordered rice to pair it with. By the time I am done, I was almost full so I didn’t get the chance to really enjoy the moussaka. Not because it’s not good but because the serving’s too huge for me! It was tasty and well seasoned. Would really love to dine in again to try their feta salad and kofte dishes! Service was quick and staff were very attentive to the guests.
Great food service and atmosphere. The photo is unfortunate as we had a red light over the table so I couldn't get a better shot, but the food was delicious and the lighting really wasn't that harsh.
One of the best places in Durham to have a meal with friends. Great food, service, and atmosphere!
Had an amazing meal drinks and experience here today with outstanding service will definitely be back! Hikmit was lovely appreciate the fabulous customer service x
My dining at the Turkish Kitchen was an absolute delight. I ordered the Ali Nazik Kebab and it was one of the best kebabs I’ve ever had. The lamb was cooked to perfection, juicy and bursting with favor. The smoked aubergine puree complimented the lamb perfectly, adding a refreshing touch to balance the rich meat. Not only was the food delicious, but the staff was attentive and friendly. This restaurant truly deserves 5 stars. Highly recommended.
Myself and my wife had lunch here while waiting for her passport from the Durham passport office, we arrived at noon and outside was 26⁰ we were pleased that the aircon was on and working well, We had 3 courses and the food was fantastic, and the service was the same, no rush and very relaxed, I would recommend a visit if you are in Durham, we will be back 😊
A great little find, great menu with a fantastic variety of authentic Turkish cuisine. The food came quickly and was delicious, The menu was reasonably priced and staff were attentive, if you are visiting Durham it's worth a try.
An excellent meal in great surroundings Lots of vegetarian choices in a wide menu. Great cocktails and desserts too. Friendly attentive staff. 5 stars all round except table clearing can be a bit keen and my cocktail was removed still a quarter full.
We went there yesterday. The food was excellent, and the customer service was perfect. We ordered the lamb and chicken shish. The meat was lovely, tender, and juicy. The portion of olives was very generous. Thank you so much.
Walked past this restaurant and thought we’d return and then checked a few reviews before in fact popping in. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The portion sizes are very generous and the food is very tasty. Good value for money. Can highly recommend.
Very friendly staff, very clean place, excellent food. I would give 6 out of 5 if I could
I had lentil soup and Turkish bread, the lentil soup must be one of the best soups that I've ever had. for the main I had the mixed kofte... Wonderful. My wife had the white bait for starter and the chicken shish, once again wonderful.
I do love some Turkish food, and have tried many restaurants in the past years, however I had never been to this one due to the fact that I come to Durham for work (rarely). I have to say that the food was incredible (look at the pic), the service impeccable, and the pricing very honest. I wouldn't hesitate a second to recommend to a friend.
Nice staff good food All vegetables in side dishes were very fresh. We had Turkish feta salad and a mixed grill dish + fries which was more than enough for two. We recommend it
We stopped by this place for lunch and it turned out to be a great choice! We ordered the chicken shish and the food was super tender and tasty! We also had some Turkish tea which I highly recommend! The staff, especially our waiter Eugene was super attentive and friendly!
The Lambs meat with rice is very nice for lamb lover. Fried squid ring is nice.
🍮🍮TURKISH KITCHEN 🍮🍮 Cocktails were very strong.. always a plus 😊 My starter was the spicy sausage which was delicious but not spicy at all accompanied with salad on the side which was dressed beautifully. Mains were the spicy lamb pot which was indeed spicy but it was cooked with coconut milk and much more. 10/10 My friend got the mousakka which is a vegetarian option and it was lovely and filling. We got apple Turkish tea 10/10 and a good old Turkish coffee to suit the theme haha. Serve was great very fast no complaints at all. What a lovely experience we had here, the food is full of flavour, Liga our waitress was so attentive, and she made a cracking Pina Colada. I had the Lamb Kofta, definitely recommend. In fact our whole visit here was just splendid. Thank you Liga
Foods are so delicious. Friendly service. Foods are served quickly. The atmosphere and decor are also nice. Generally speaking, it is a great place for having dinner. Recommend chocolate brownie and chicken ala crema.
Great place, comfortable and great atmosphere, professional friendly service, food awesome.. had chicken kofte and kleftico.. kofte was flavourful and cooked well, kleftico lamb fell from the bone, the mash was creamy and with the sauce was perfect…. very tasty.
We had a really warm welcome here, the customer service was brilliant and the food was delicious. It was out first time eating here but we would highly recommend it . We chose the lunch deal and we were served good sized portions and went away very full!
Excellent tasty food, quick service, wonderful vibes, am looking forward to come again
When we arrived (walk-in), we were treated with amazing hospitality. The staff were friendly and easy to speak to, we were given a table within seconds of arriving, a lively, beautiful atmosphere with good music, food came with perfect timing, and staff were very helpful. We ordered 4 mains and 6 drinks, yet we were served a starter of bread and dips whilst we wait, turkish delights with the bill, and even baklava! I have never been so impressed with the service of a restaurant, never mind the food! Absolutely delicious, and portion sizes were perfect. Would recommend to anyone staying in Durham!
If I could I'd give more stars. Manager/owner accommodated the four of us who did not have a booking, this was done with minimum fuss. The service was excellent, there was no pressure but equally service was prompt. The food was delicious- full of flavour and cooked to perfection. With main meal, a drink and half the part having a dessert the cost was between £25-£30 per person, I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anybody, and will most definitely be eating there again when I next visit Durham.
We came for tea this evening and had a really lovely meal. Service was super friendly and efficient, and the food was absolutely delicious! We came with our daughter and the owner/manager was so sweet with her - she loved her ice cream! Thank you so much for making her day!
Absolutely amazing. Went in for lunch. Lunch menu was fantastic, food was served quickly, it was incredibly good quality and taste, service was excellent, and was very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
Amazing food, so delicious!!!! With lots of vegetarian options. I definitely recommend the bread, the bread was amazing! And the fried brie and the falafel with hummus. My friend had the lamb and my fiancé had the chicken and they were both happy with their dishes too, absolutely legendary. Everything was so delicious, staff were lovely and it's a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go here again.
We been today at this amazing restaurant in the heart of Durham.. We loved the food and the staff ladies been very kind and welcoming. We recommend to everyone to stop and enjoy this fantastic place. See you again very soon.!
I travel to Durham regularly and this restaurant is always busy. I popped in today and they were able to fit me in without a booking - although I recommend booking so you are not disappointed - and I did go early. The restaurant was almost full at 6pm. I am coeliac and need gluten free food. The restaurant has a separate gluten free menu which gives real confidence. There are plenty of options whether gluten free or choosing from the regular menu. The food was really enjoyable and I will definitely make this a regular stop. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the team. Thank you!
It is a lovely restaurant. Accomodated us last minute and we were a big group with children too. Very friendly and lovely staff and the food was out of this world. Thank you very much for a great service. Amazing food, For being so friendly and for the charger 🫣. Big portions for little money if I may say. I lived out dining there.
Wonderful restaurant. Not only was the food rich, flavourful and with a generous portion but all the food was halal and the service was sublime. The tables and chairs and cutlery was clean and nice. The waiters were polite and charismatic and gave great food suggestions. If you are visiting Durham I recommend this restaurant. I went with my mother and sister and we ordered starters and mains and desserts and drinks and it resulted in about 100 pounds and they even offered us turkish tea on the house.
It was a busy Friday with a table 20/30 upon arrival and refilled immediately. Our food, starters arrived very quickly and were served hot. I ordered a starter, main course tea to finish. I wished I tried the Turkish tea or coffee. Starter spicy sausage, main course spicy lamb with rice. I think the prawns n sausage mixed together would be great together. Cocktail good too.
•Require reservation• — A very good quality Turkish cuisine restaurant. We ordered mixed grill for two. It was great and really tasty! I recommend it if you are with a friend. It comes with lamb, chicken, rice, and salad. They offered bread at the beginning and complementary Turkish delight with the bill. What a also liked is that they have a clean toilet.
Location, good convenient as expected (city centre). Staff, efficient and friendly. Ambience, nice. Food, good portion and tasty. Thoroughly recommended. October 2024
Everything was so delicious and nice. I had kofte kabab as my main. The taste was lovely, but it was just a bit hard to cut.
We went for a meal on the basis of our previous experience which was exceptional. The service is excellent, with friendly and attentive staff. On the whole the food is well presented and ordinarily good value. But this time we felt just a little ripped off. We ordered the lamb iskender and there were three slices of lamb and it was packed out with bread. I appreciate that hospitality is a difficult place at the minute but you can't put up prices AND shortchange customers. Do one or the other. Left a bad taste in out mouth this time. Will we go back? Yes but if we have a similar experience then I'll follow up and won't recommend
The food is okay but it’s really overpriced so it’s not worth the price but if it was a bit cheaper it would’ve been okay maybe, the staff members were really rude we were literally still eating and one came to our table asked if we were finished which felt like they were rushing us even though the place was pretty empty!!!! Then one of us went to the loo while we were finished so we were waiting on them and the staff came over and made a face at us and said “thank you” so basically he told us to get out of there in a very rude manner! I wouldn’t recommend this place at all unless there’s no other restaurants left in the uk lol so try your absolute best to avoid it!!
Guys your attention PLEASE! I honestly do not recommend this place at all. The waiter shown in the photo was extremely rude, unwelcoming, and showed clear disrespect towards us. From the start, his attitude made it obvious that we were not wanted there. After we paid, he began clearing tables straight away and made it very clear that he just wanted us to leave. What made things worse was seeing him cleaning tables while eating food, which is completely unacceptable in any restaurant. That alone raised serious hygiene concerns. On top of that, the service felt rushed, careless, and borderline discriminatory in the way we were treated. The food itself was nothing special at all and definitely not worth the experience. There are so many better places around Durham city centre where you’ll get better food, better service, and basic respect as a customer. It honestly felt like they only cared about taking our money and getting us out as fast as possible. I will say the atmosphere and tables were okay, but that’s the only positive. Everything else completely ruined the visit. If you’re planning to go, I’d strongly recommend the one by the river instead it’s much better in every way. This restaurant was a huge disappointment, and because of the staff behaviour and hygiene issues, I will be taking this further. Overall, a very unpleasant experience and absolutely not worth going.
I came to this restaurant because of the positive reviews. I wish hadn't. The place looks nice and the waiters are friendly but the food tastes awful. We ordered Hummus and it was nothing special. The main dishes were chicken and they were cooked with ghee which had a very strange and unpleasant taste.
Food is amazing, one of the best mixed grills I've had...my 3rd mix grill was as good as my 1st and 2nd....shame one of the waitresses could turn milk sour...just indifferent and sour faced, verging on outright rude...(not the blonde waitress)as good as the food is, i don't think I'll be visiting again for my 4th.
