This place never disappointed. Friendly, courteous staff, delicious food, and a very broad menu. Just wish they had more scotch options (Lagavulin please). Probably one of the few places around the area where you can get a good steak, fish, burger, and a pizza. That way everyone is happy.
Not sure why, but this was our first stop here since it changed over years ago. We stopped for happy hour and found a great value with a solid, low cost happy hour menu at the bar. The place has a nice atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff and the sliders and fries were very good for the cost. The food coming out to others from the main menu looked good enough that we know we need to stop back soon.
Came here for a business team meeting. Service was quick . The staff was friendly, drinks came out quickly. I tried the sliders, and they weren't bad. I had the flat iron steak and it was properly cooked to medium rare. The French onion soup was properly cooked. Lots of cheese. And of course, lots of onions. They don't know how to make an Irish coffee, but it tasted okay.
There's a lot to choose from on the menu. If you're craving sushi, Mexican, a burger, a steak, fish, chicken, you won't be disappointed. You also won't be disappointed with the quantity of food they serve you, there's a good chance you'll be taking some home with you. And the prices are very reasonable. Service is friendly and professional. Highly recommend.
I like this restaurant a lot for networking meetings with work colleagues and happy hour with friends. It is a great alternative to Tavern on France which is always crowded. They have good beers on tap and serve them in the official brewery glass which I appreciate. Their chicken lettuce wraps are delicious and so are the pork potstickers for bar food.
One of my family's favorite places to go! Excellent food!! Exceptional atmosphere and service! To notch all the way around!
First timers. My grandson found this spot for dinner, online. We had six people our group (from Wisconsin),and were easily accomodated with a reservation on a Saturday evening. Loved the atmosphere, open kitchen concept and decor. Plenty of parking in the lot out front when we arrived. Hostesses greeted us with smiles and were very pleasant. They got our table set up (four of us arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation at 6:15pm) and we were seated promptly. Our server, Julia, did a great job! Drinks, food and dessert were delivered in a very timely manner. She was great with questions and very friendly. We started with waters and a few beverages. Great Malbec! And one of my boys tried the NA Pomegranate Mojito-said it was very good. Calamari starter..very tasty and the spicy mayo added a nice zip. My boys had the Mongolian Beef and the Orange Peel Chicken. Hubby had the French Dip, I had the small Caesar Salad and the French Onion Soup. My daughter had Buffalo Chicken Wrap and grandson had Carne Tacos. All the dishes were delicious. We also had dessert. Two Creme Brulee, a Flour less Chocolate Cake and a Turtle Cheesecake. All presented delightfully. We shared all. Cheesecake and Chocolate Cake were amazing. The Creme Brulee, however, was not the best we've had. (3 out of 5) Slightly disappointing, but seemed like the consistency was off and slightly pasty. It was still eaten, though! We try it anytime it's on the menu. Presentation was beautiful. Certainly wouldn't keep us from coming and trying it (all) again. Thanks, Tavern 23, for a wonderful spontaneous family dinner get-together on a cold and snowy January evening!
Delicious food, great service! I can’t wait to come back and try more meals! Recently came back! All the food was great! The French dip, the chicken sandwich, the flatbread pizza and the tacos! We all loved our food! And sitting on the patio was gorgeous. Will be coming back again!
This was my first time here. Great atmosphere. Has good option for all kinds of pallets. I had the bolognese. At first, the proportions seemed small. But I was able to finish dish without being burdened with leftovers. And I had room for crème brûlée. Delicious, and creamy. A shallow dish, but easy to finish. My wife had the fried chicken poutine. It was ok, needed more chicken, or it is a better starter and not really an entree. She talked to someone who had the French Dip. It looked and was amazing. We will be back to try that one. And I will try their steak offerings. Not photoed was the peanut kale salad we had. Perfect to split for 2.
Awesome lunch in comfortable restaurant on another below zero day. Our server Courtney said everything's good here. We had the Beef Stroganoff and the Spaghetti Bolognese which were delicious and served with great garlic bread. Also very good French Onion soup and a Cashew Kale Salad that I could eat everyday. Kung Pao Chicken was excellent! So much more to try on the menu so we will be back!
Inexpensive. Delicious. Welcoming. I can't believe the portion sizes and their variety of food! I have been to many other places with large portion sizes that don't serve food half as good as this. The waitress was a little slow. However, I think that it's because she was trying to give our table time to visit. It was busy, so it was a little bit of an overwhelming experience as an autistic individual, but it was nice overall. I'll be back to try more food next time. Their pizzas looked delicious!
Delicious house-ground turkey burger with goat cheese and honey mustard on an UDI's bun. House-cut fries from a dedicated fryer. Hotter than blazes on the patio, but thank you for taking a such good care of us, Mishi! Wonderful venue with a gluten- free menu! (Apologies for the half eaten sandwich in this photo. I was hungry and it was as good!)
Overall we had a great time with my husband. Sliders were overcooked but the flatbread was delicious 👌🏽 definitely not a place for sushi though. Pomegranate majito was awesome 🙌🏻
I am just so happy that I found this restaurant! The food is very well made & comes to your table absolutely delicious! This is a rare find! I only found out about Tavern 23 from the Doctor's office I went to that particular morning. I am so very glad that I visited this place!! What I had was the spinach & artichoke pizza. It is a Wood Fired Artisan Pizza. It was made with goat cheese, olive oil, artichoke hearts, peppers & assorted vegetables. It was so light & tasty with a glass of wine. It was just so divine! When you eat something that good you have to tell others about the establishment that served it to you. So many good menu choices! However, I am always, on the lookout for some really good pizza. I found it at Tavern 23! You definitely have to try this restaurant. The variety of its menu, the great customer service and the atmosphere is so fine! They have a late breakfast menu, lunch & dinner as well. I would check their options menu online before you come to this restaurant. This way you can check all their menu items, before you arrive. In nice weather you can eat on their patio. Tavern 23 is now on my Highly Recommended list, go there and enjoy all the great foods they serve!
Atmosphere was very chill for a Saturday Night! Food and drinks were good. I would come here again. :) *edit; my drink was strong but it was still good.
Salad was delicious with the miso dressing and perfectly cooked ahi The pizza had a crispy crust and fennel sausage and caramelized onions. The inside is very nice with a fully open kitchen if you like to creep on the chefs, and quite possibly the nicest patio in the area. The real shocker was that we ordered our food, I went for a quick bathroom break (3-4mins), and when I came back the food was coming out! And it was delicious and not thrown together... I'm still in awe of the Jimmy John's like speed but with twice the flavor! Kudos Tavern 23!👏👏👏👏
Went in for happy hour. Sat at the bar. Immediately got our drinks. Ordered a few snacks. The Edamame was so good, only $4. Very addicting! Service was great!
Ambient is amazing. Really beautiful place. I loved it cause is really beautiful and elegant inside but at the same time it doesn’t feel like a high-life place, actually waitresses are really nice, chill and efficient. Variety of food and drinks. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a date, family diner, business appointment or just chilling with friends, you’ll find different kind of food and drinks perfect for any occasion. I mean is kinda pricey but not too much. Food was ready really fast and place is big enough so it doesn’t feel crowded.
Seems like a nice place to go out for dinner. Fairly upscale. Nice menu. Limited vegetarian options. Great bar and bar service.
This summer we stopped at Tavern 23 on Centennial Lakes multiple times. It is a super venue for dining outdoors and enjoying the best of Minnesota summers. While many opt to eat indoors, over all the years that I’ve gone, it’s been to enjoy the patio dining. My daughter and family went with us and were amazed by the many menu options. We went back a second time to try more entrees. The Lamp Lamb Lollipops have a delightful Rosemary marinade with mint chimichurri and hints of lemon and onions. Each time our party goes someone orders the Lettuce Wraps - they are tops. I like the peanuts and water chestnuts in them. And the sauce hits that delicate blend of sweet and savory. I also highly recommend the Sesame-Seared Ahi Salad; the mixed greens, red bell peppers, and cilantro were really fresh and the fish well marinated. The Orange Peel Chicken is a fun wok twist for a new taste of blended flavors. When walking through, there appear to be many locals who enjoy the bar and drinks. I think its fun to see directly into the area where the chefs are preparing food. How can one to ability to walk after a great meal? And often there is live music, too. Few cities can boast of such an exception place to dine and walk as Centennial Lakes Park in Edina, MN. No problem with parking – ever, in our experience. If you don’t it, there is a nice large underground parking area if you come in off of France Avenue. The service is excellent.
Everything we ordered were excellent! Beef stroganoff was delicious. Hubby likes the carne asada tacos. Both appetizers avocado egg rolls and garlic bread was superb!
Really nice place with wonderful employees. Food was good.
We've never had food this delicious! Chicken Poutine was heaven! The combination of french fries, gravy, undressed garlic cheese curds, and bacon is pure genius. The Salmon was sweet and zesty, no fishy flavor in any bite. The flat iron steak was out of this world. My taste buds crave more. It was cooked to medium as I desired and the seasoning was phenomenal. The garlic mashed potatoes were of beautiful consistency, aroma, and even flavor - the garlic was not overpowering. The turtle cheese cake tasted fresh and homemade, the caramel drizzle was the perfect added touch. The creme bruele cracked like it should and was dressed beautifully. Our waiter was so kind, attentive, and gave wonderful recommendations. The hostess was a wonderful first face and impression - she seated us right away (we had reservations.) The atmosphere was uplifting and guests that we could see all had smiles on their faces. My boyfriend found Tavern 23 on a Google search, date night for my birthday. Literally THE best place we could have gone. Our tab was a little higher than we thought it would be, but that'll happen when you order a few of the most expensive items on the menu. Cannot wait to dine again!
I returned to Tavern 23 for a lovely business meeting with a prospective client and the environment was warm, the service delightful, and respectful of our rhythm! It was highly appreciated and I booked a new client for my sensuality coaching and sexual energy healing practice.
Best restaurant meal ever last night at Tavern 23! Salmon Salad. If you expanded to the eastside of the cities, I'm certain that I'd be enjoying it weekly. Thanks!
Only one problem. Where our table was, it was chilly. Good was great. Drinks were great. Server was great. We will go again. When it’s not -15 degrees outside.
Great dinner spot in Edina area. Went most recently for their dinner, but they have a fantastic brunch menu as well! We couldn't have been happier with the service!
Very friendly staff and delicious food. They were very welcoming & accommodating for my 11 month old. One staff member brought her some things to play with & would stop by our table every time he walked by to interact with her. Would recommend this restaurant to any one & will definitely be returning.
First time here and I enjoyed it. The noise level was high, but the service was good. Our server was friendly and a great salesman offering great suggestions for our meal. I had the ahi tuna sandwich. It was fantastic! All the right flavors and textures. Really delicious!
Nice variety on menu. Beautiful location, a bit loud in the dining room, would like to return to see if they have patio seating in summer. Was a tad slow on soda refills on e meal was served, but was able to flag down server. Fries were hot, BLT was okay.
Went to this restaurant because it was suggested by our hotel. The atmosphere was really nice. Our way to was a young man tall and provided wonderful service. The food was good.
Might have been a bad day for the bartender, but felt like they just wanted to go home. Granted it was an hour before closing. They were still polite, took our order and served us quick. Restaurant is in a nice location, nice ambiance, right next to Centenial Lakes Park. Plenty of parking nearby. I'd come back again.
Been to this place for a family reunion brunch and I must say that the family picked a great place to for us to meet. We had a large group that took one whole side of the restaurant and the team working their took there time and were putting up with us. They were short handed but managed to get all our orders and anything else we needed. The food was good. The atmosphere was chill. The layout and design were awesome.
Have been here quite a few times. Nice bar to sit at, and restaurant is large, so good for groups although a little loud. Usually, no wait, which is perfect for walk-ins. Huge variety with sushi, Asian and Mexican, burgers, and pasta. A little too much variety, IMHO. Service is good. Brunch lovers will appreciate the bottomless mimosas, bloody marys, and eggs benedict.
Had lunch with friends and sat outside. Beautiful setting. Our server was great-very knowledgeable and friendly. The fries were a disappointment-no seasoning and a small portion. Overall good experience and we’ll be back.
Went to just have a quiet dinner with myself. I tried a couple different Sushi dishes and I was not disappointed. Price range was fair for Sushi and portion size was great. Taste was wonderful. Definitely would go back again. Bartenders did a good job of asking me just the right amount of times if I needed anything else. (California role & crunchy crab role)
Very nice spot!!! With covid you do have to wear a mask from the front door to your table and to the bathroom or anywhere else in the restaurant! I don't mind that I get it!! Now on to the food!!! We had the onion blossom which was real good!! It didn't have a ton of breading on it and not a llat full of grease! The avocado roll was good!!! As for meals I had the orange peel chicken with fried rice!!! Definitely delicious and a good plate full!! My wife had the pad thai noodles with shrimp!! It was good a fresh she did get the sauce on the side and it made it a lot my healthy meal!! I will definitely be back!!!
I would have given Tavern 23 five stars but looks that we received as we sat there, made us feel like we weren't very welcomed. The bartender was great and that's what makes me want to visit one more time
I think minneapolis in general have horrible food scene but this restaurant has a decent menu! Lots of options. The burger is really good here, but get the sauce on the side. Whoever their bartender is make an amazing old fashioned. Service on the patio is ok but cmon it is patio service. Location is prime here too. Perfect date night spot in my opinion.
I remember the restaurant when it was am Italian place. It looks the same. Maybe be the dark tables and chairs give it the look of it statehouse, but it's not. I went for brunch which has a simple menu of various egg dishes. No complaints about the food. It was enjoyable. The lunch menu is straight forward as well. Sandwiches burgers etc. I wish I could have seen the dinner menu. Service was nice and attentive.
I did not have a good experience. I had a couple of hours to spare and wanted to enjoy a glass of wine and a light meal. I was seated on the outdoor patio and literally had to wait over 45 minutes before I was acknowledged. After, the server finally acknowledged me she stated that she was under the impression that I was there to read my book - only. 😳🌀.. Anyway, I finally got my cocktail and only had time to order cheese curds. They were over cooked and greasy. Nevertheless, the scenery was great and the weather was perfect so I did not complain. Until, now!
I'm only giving this restaurant three stars because I'm hoping that today was a fluke and it's not always this bad. We're staying at a hotel 1 mile away and wanted to stay in for dinner as today was busy. We ordered over the phone and went over to pick the food up. On arrival, the host told my husband was no order under our name. Another individual started the same. Recognizing the voice on the phone who had been sitting there the whole time, he asked her if she knew where the order was. It was ready to go. Keep in mind that it was 1.8 miles to get to the restaurant to pick up the food and 1.8 miles to bring it back to the hotel- when we sat down to eat, our food was cold and soggy. It was extremely disappointing to the point that we only ate the lettuce wraps which were delicious and the chips and salsa which were just ok. We each tried our burgers but the buns were soggy and the patty(s) were cold so they were just unappetizing. The fries were limp and cold so we didn't bother even tasting them. I'm adding pictures so you can get an idea of what takeout looks like. The lettuce wraps really were excellent so hopefully this experience was just due to an off day for the staff. I don't recommend take out from this restaurant.
Today I had a soso lunch at Tavern 23. The tomato bisque was fine. The Walleye sandwich did not seem freshly cooked and the fries were far inferior to what I have had before. They were not hot, were fatter and not as tasty as I have had there. What happened? New chef?? My wife had the tacos and she liked them. The service was fine.
I was really expecting more out of this place. I nicely asked the hostess if there was any seating available in the dining area or on the patio and was rudely told no, unless I had a reservation (Place was about 20% full at the time). Found a seat in the lounge. Looked about as updated as your local chilis. Food was just OK. I had tried it out because I like Nanne’s other place in St. Paul. I’m not sure I’ll be back
EXTREMELY disappointed. Not a great place for single young women. Went to catch up with a friend on a Wednesday night near the end of happy hour. Dining room was mildly busy, bar was packed. No problem at all. We managed to get a booth at the bar and things started fine. Bartender was obviously busy but was gracious with not rushing us to order, which we appreciated. I got a chocolate martini and friend got a glass of wine, both were good. She also got sushi which came out relatively quickly and looked great. However, things started going downhill after that. Now I know it's a tavern, so you should probably get tavern-style food...but if it's on the menu, you'd expect them to be able to make it well. By this point it was also nearing 7:00 (and again, it was a Wednesday), so the bar was clearing out after happy hour and the restaurant as a whole wasn't as busy. I ordered the orange peel chicken with white rice (specifically asked for white), and friend ordered the Mongolian chicken with white rice. My dish didn't even come room temperature, it came out cold. It also came out with fried rice (which is an up charge), but I didn't notice right away until I had already eaten some of the chicken and saw the rice underneath. Later on, I noticed on the check that I wasn't charged for the fried rice, so it clearly wasn't the bartender's fault. But things had been fine so far so I wasn't going to bother asking for a new meal. When my friend's dish came out, the food runner said "Mongolian chicken with no onions or peppers?" when she had never mentioned wanted anything removed. She told them this, and they redid her dish and it came out fine the second time. I suspect we may have somehow gotten another table's food, since both orders were completely wrong, but honestly I don't know what to make of the situation. But for over $40 for a cocktail and a meal, I would have expected my food to at least be warm. The absolute worst part was that the entire time we were there, starting from right around when we ordered our dinner, an older man (who is apparently a regular) continually came by and harassed both of us. We are both girls in our EARLY twenties. He called us pretty, made disgusting comments about "making love to your (my friend's) mom back in the day" (which obviously never happened), and after hearing us talking about my friend's upcoming wedding, he said "if your husband ever touches you in a way you don't like..divorce him!" Which I guess is good advice but...why are you talking to us? He came up to us probably 5 or 6 times. He also kept walking around to other couples at the bar and saying "sorry to interrupt your romantic evening..." and saying who knows what to them. We felt EXTREMELY uncomfortable and didn't feel safe walking out alone, so I asked the bartender if someone could escort us to our cars. He did, which we greatly appreciated, and we were able to leave without the man following us. But that's when the bartender told us, "He's here a lot, I think he's just a lonely old guy, he's mostly harmless." MOSTLY? What does that even mean?? Even worse, I know that this isn't a one time occurrence because the following evening, my mom told me that she had mentioned to one of her friends that this man had been making my friend and I uncomfortable during dinner, and her friend said that there are always creepy men there bothering other patrons and that's why she stopped going. The guy had a prosthetic leg so I figured we could outrun him if we needed to, but that doesn't change the fact that there is at least one (maybe more, based on my mom's friend's account) known regular who comes in and harasses their patrons and management does absolutely nothing about it. I've only been to this restaurant one previous time with my family, and the food was pretty sub-par, so I was considering suggesting my friend and I go somewhere else for dinner. I decided to give it a chance, hoping maybe this second time would win me back, but it absolutely has not. Tavern 23 won't be seeing me ever again.
Chicken vegetable soup was gelatinous and flavor was a little strange. No crackers or roll to accompany .Tomato bisque was extremely salty( possibly sea salt?) turkey sandwich was messy. We won’t go back . I did like the atmosphere though.
Dec 2022: The food was divine and cooked to perfection! We had the ahi tuna sandwich 12/10 and the hickory burger 10/10 and the garlic bread with tomato soup 10/10. Our server was decent but could of been better and the restaurants menu was all over the place hence the 4 stars. Plates weren’t taken off the table for a while ( there was over 6 people working in our seating area and only 3 tables were sat). Instead of asking if we would like dessert at the end of our meal or giving us the desert menu when we first arrived, it was dropped off at our table as we were about to ask for the check and the waitress kept walking. She came by eventually and we let her know we didn’t want dessert and asked for the check. We got the check and everything was fine. It just seemed kinda rude to just drop off a dessert menu without speaking with us at all and then quickly walking away before we can speak. The other reason for 4 stars is it says American food but there was a TON of Chinese/ Asian food options. That isn’t a bad thing, but the menu was just all over the place with what they offered and we like to have options based on the type of restaurant. We will for sure back though ! I can’t stop thinking about that ahi tuna sandwich .
Love dry burgers, limp french fries, and flavorless pasta? This is the place for you! If you’re like me and actually like food that tastes good, you should avoid this place! The food is mediocre at best, and the service is slow. It took close to 20 minutes for our server to come take our order. One time here was more than enough to know that I don’t need to come back again.
All food was lukewarm. I had the French dip and it was mediocre at best (think Perkins level). Another person in our party had the grill cheese burger and the cheese was not melted at all. Burger appeared to be a preformed patty { Costco?) Fries were barely warm. Server was disinterested and barely acknowledged us. Could not ever get a refill on our drinks/water. There are way better options out there.
The atmosphere was nice but that's about it. The host staff were very pleasant but our server was nothing to rave about. We had the pecan crusted walleye. It was both too sweet and too bland. It came with a sauce that didn't taste like anything at all. I had to use a ton of salt to even try to eat it. We also had the turkey burger and fries. The burger was the worst turkey burger we've ever had. Very bland. The fries were burnt with no potato in them. My son had the pesto pasta which he said was pretty good. The food wasn't the most expensive but it 100% was not worth the price. We will not be returning.
