We loved our meal at Blackwoods. Attractive and quiet atmosphere, and our ribeye and fillet were both cooked to perfection. The service from Stefano and the other staff was impeccable. We also appreciated his whiskey recommendations and conversation. We will return when we return to Edinburgh.

We went here as the place we wanted to go was closed, and so glad we did. From our host, to our food, everything was excellent: an absolute hidden gem on a quiet street. Will definitely be coming back here after a 5 star experience. Big thanks to our host, he was fantastic and a good chat. The steak was perfect.

An absolute delight! I had the squid ink ravioli (which has been on my mind for days), the steak (perfect crust) and the brownie with pistachio ice cream (rich and delicious). The service was top notch as well and had a wonderful date. Highly recommended!

If your are in Edinburgh you need to make time to go to this restaurant. Food was beyond DELICIOUS! I HAD the pitted very and cauliflower blue cheese soups followed by Chateau Briand with carrots, cauliflower and portobello mushrooms. It came with bernaise and a red wine reduction sauce. I ate every single bite. For dessert the vegan chocolate mousse was out of this world. I'm sad I only got to eat here one night. Next time will be a definite visit.

Staying at the hotel and decided to dine in and so glad we did. The service was second to none, the food was absolutely wonderful and there were options for children too. The châteaubriant was so delicious and everything was cooked just as we’d asked. You have to try the cherries with the brownie, I almost didn’t but Stefano recommended them and I wasn’t disappointed or with the pistachio gelato. Top marks to the chef, thank you. Just had the vegetarian breakfast and that too was delicious and the choice for continental was great too. Highly recommend

Amazing Chateaubriand cooked to perfection, locally sourced food with a vast drinks menu. Many a good whisky! The staff are very knowledgeable about the produce.

Truly loved our dinner date at Blackwood’s. The ox cheek was incredibly tender and full of flavour—easily the highlight of the meal. Cosy atmosphere, beautiful presentation, and first-class service from Stefano made the night extra special. Highly recommend!

Perfect atmosphere, perfect food. This was the best lamb I have ever had… and I came here just to try the lamb. I was blown away. The service was perfect. Great attention to detail. The desserts were too difficult to choose from so I had 3 - they were all delicious!

A wee hidden gem just off Queen street. It’s a part of a hotel apartments. The steak (rib eye) I ordered was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Options are minimal but the taste and quality is unparalleled. Recommend.

We were left destitute by booking .com for a 2 bedroom apartment next door and the Hotel, management and staff came to our help allowing us acess to all of their facilities and superb service. If the hotel wasnt already fully booked we wouldn't of hesitated to stay with them. Pure inadultartated quality

Much more posh than I expected from the previous reviews but very nice and welcoming! The food was excellent, not cheap but you get what you pay for. The steaks are sourced from a local butcher but it was slightly undercooked for my taste. Definitely worth a visit!

We are staying at the hotel for a couple days and just came in from Paris. This meal beat every meal we had in Paris, truly. It’s our first time in town and had trouble finding a restaurant… they were very accommodating getting us in close to closing. The food was incredible. The vegetable appetizer with goat cheese was so flavorful, cod for a main dish was tender with amazing potatoes. To top it off dessert was the perfect way to end the meal. Nothing was overpowering the other, just blended and complimented each other well. Our server was very helpful with their extensive whiskey list and made the perfect recommendation.

We decided to stop in for a late dinner, ended up doing a bit of a tasting menu!! Found this to be a unique take on traditional Scottish favorites! Every item we ordered was outstanding!! Meat, fish, wine, cocktails…everything we ordered was delicious!! The staff was gracious, friendly and we felt we found a hidden gem!! Put this on your short list!! Ask for Stefano!

The best meal my husband and I have had out in ages. Fantastic fillet steaks, cooked exactly as we requested. Starters, sides and desserts were all bursting with flavour, fresh and complementary. My allergies were taken seriously and catered for. Our waiter greeted us warmly and was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive but not overbearing, and professional. The restaurant was quiet and relaxing. Will definitely be back in future, especially for the excellent food and service.

Stopped into this hotel for breakfast. It’s in the most beautiful neighborhood close to Dean Village which is why we were in the area. They were able to seat us right away at a nice table by the window. Additionally there were outlets and I was able to charge up my phone for the day. Breakfast for 22€ included the continental offerings (juice, pastries, fruit, cereal, cheese & meats) and a cooked to order option. I chose the omelette and my husband ordered a full Scottish. Very good!! Overall a lovely place to stop for a big breakfast before seeing the city.

This hotel is open to non residents and we enjoyed breakfast on Sunday morning. It’s 26GBP which includes the continental style buffet and a hot breakfast. I like my coffee strong but even I thought the coffee was a bit too strong, but the breakfast was hearty and set us up for a good day exploring the city and a hike up to Arthur’s Seat.

Restaurante muy bonito y servicio impecable, pero la comida no estuvo a la altura a mí humilde aunque docto entender. Especialmente la berenjena estaba medio cruda y correosa y el salmón bastante escaso. El risotto, por otro lado, sí estuvo bueno.

Was aggressively fine. Service was nice enough, but food was pretty mid: fish slightly overcooked and burger intensely medium. Also, a three item? Which is fine but everything needs to be amazing if so!

Unless you are staying at the connected hotel, do not go out of your way to eat here. I will say the service was very nice and efficient. The food, however, was overpriced and really underwhelming. The £11 ravioli starter comes with *a single* ravioli, and the filling and sauce were both very bland. The ribeye steak was half an inch thick and the size of my hand—and it was cooked very strangely, not seared seemingly at all. Just not at all what you’d expect for a 21-day-aged ribeye for almost $50 USD.

Booked a table for 6 people for a surprise birthday and the restaurant called just 5 hours before we were due to arrive to cancel due to illness. Despite me being on the hook for £15 per head had I cancelled my credit card authorised booking within less than 24 hours, no alternative was provided or a future discount offered by way of apology. Whilst I of course understand the situation the restaurant was in, I was left with next to zero dinner options on a very busy Saturday evening (rugby was on that day) for my partners surprise birthday and travelled guests. Ended up having to queue for 90 mins to get in to an alternative place. I kinda feel the £15 per head cancellation charge should work both ways

Got tricked by previous reviews. To be fair the staff and the place is great, however the food wasn’t what I expected from a restaurant. The appetizers were good but the mains were really off, we had the risotto that was clearly undercooked and we had the duck breast that was overcooked.

This visit was meant to be a key part of our Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh, making the experience particularly disappointing. After being seated on New Year’s Eve, we ordered water and two glasses of champagne. Only afterward ordering our drinks were we informed that three of the five main courses were already sold out, leaving just cod or beetroot as options. As neither appealed, I chose to order two starters instead. What was not explained at the time was that only one portion of that starter remained. Rather than mentioning this, the dish was quietly divided in half and served on two smaller plates. When we queried the portion size, this was acknowledged and we were assured we would be charged for only one. However, the bill initially included two charges, which again had to be corrected after being queried. As we were preparing to leave, a party of four arrived and ordered—among other things—the previously unavailable steak and salmon. When I asked about this, I was told these dishes had been reserved due to a pre-order. While that may be reasonable, at no point—from booking the table to arriving—was there any communication suggesting that pre-ordering was necessary to access the full menu. It is worth noting that Kieran and Anna were polite, apologetic, and visibly uncomfortable, handling the situation as professionally as they could. The issues appeared to stem from communication and planning rather than frontline service. I share this feedback constructively. On such an important evening, clearer communication and transparency would have made a significant difference.

Sorry, das war lausig. Langsamer, zwar bemüht aber unprofessioneller Service, Qualität soweit gut aber lausiges Timing (Frites kamen 10 (!) Minuten nach dem Châteaubriand). Ohne Entschuldigung… Das alles zu sehr stolzem Preis. Ambiente total out of Date.
