Absolutely delicious gelato - the flavors never disappoint! The apricot goat cheese is on another level. We also love that they source many of their ingredients locally and have a board that shows what farms they use. Keep up the great work!
Excellent Harvest salad. Friendly competent staff
The gelato here is heavenly. I am completely obsessed with how rich and creamy it is and the amazing flavors they think of here. Cute cafe with plenty of food options other than gelato, I saw several people order their tasty looking sandwiches. Service is on point, super friendly and helpful, they really know their products. Prices are fair and you can split your scoop into two flavors. Located right downtown Escondido, there was plenty of easy parking. Well worth a stop while in the area!
Quaint little shop with a small but high quality selection of salads and paninis. The gelato is truly the best, creamy and flavorful, but not overly sweet. Just perfect.
I’ve enjoyed ever flavor, and every trip here! I e brought all my friends and they love it too
Great flavors and nice shop! Such a variety to choose from. Nice people.
I absolutely LOVED this little spot! I met a friend for Gelato and I wasn't disappointed. Their staff was lovely, and the choices for Gelato were great! I got the peach. It was so flavorful. This will be a new go- to in town.
We had the large gelato, which is a bargain at $5.50 ish. You can request 3 flavors. It was creamy, flavorful, and so yummy. They are generous with filling your cup. Cones are also available. We also had a maple pecan scone. It had lots of pecans and was perfect; not too dry. We saw folks ordering panini sandwiches and noticed some yummy and interesting offerings. Breakfast is also served along with a variety of coffee: cappuccino, lattes, drip, etc. The prices are reasonable. The service is efficient and friendly, especially given this is a busy place. We came on a Monday around 200 p.m. and there was a steady stream of customers. Pints of gelato are available as are fun gelato cakes and pastries. Day old Pastries are sold, but I didn't notice a price. They offer self-serve water. Inside is air conditioned but only hasctwo small tables seating 3 or 4. There is a nice outdoor seating area with plenty of tables; most filled at 230. There is some shade. I'm sure this outdoor seating is wonderful in the morning or later afternoon/ evening. It was a bit hot for us. Fans would help. I definitely will return for Gelato. I want to return for a panini sandwich. They also offer soup and salad. This is a fun place for meeting a friend for coffee or lunch/breakfast or a gelato!" I will be back. I enjoyed my visit and Gelato flavors: maple pecan, chocolate and peanut butter fudge! Visit during Cruisin Grand!
The best gelato shop in the West Coast. No joke. They do gelato way much better than Italy. This is the place for real healthy tasty and affordable icecream. Bonus is, delicious sandwich and coffee options.
I've been coming for years. My favorite place to get a sandwich! And gelato, of course. A few gluten free pastries baked daily, great tea selection, and good coffee. Not easy for large groups but great for small get togethers. Order ahead on their site or by phone. Really friendly staff ever time.
I and my husband discovered this place 3 years ago, we fell in love with it immediately, I love almost all the flavors of their gelato. All the staffs are always friendly. The environment is casual and relaxing, the price is very reasonable. I hope business like this can last.
This is my favorite coffee shop in Escondido! I've been here many times over the years and I'm never disappointed. The gelato is delightful, the coffee is always on point, and the tomato bisque is to die for. 100% would recommend.
I had an amazing experience today at EscoGelato. I could persist about the great prices, the cozy atmosphere and the delicious & quality Gelato, but the service here really is something special. They are so kind, welcoming and thoughtful.
Nice neighborhood place. It's clean and modern and your mouth will water looking at the Gelato. I was there for lunch on a winter afternoon. We sat outside in the sun and enjoyed our tomato soup and half laminitis sandwich. Great neighborhood gem
The flavor varieties are custom. I ordered a large half strawberry & granola, half chocolate devils food cake. Both were amazing!! The sandwich menu looks delicious. I thought the gelato portions were a tad small. That would be my only advice. Cozy good atmosphere for all ages.
Everyone is always smiley. It just puts you in a good mood. The staff and customers, just people enjoying spending time here with a delicious treat! It is impossible to have a bad experience, especially with how creative they are with the flavors!
Great food, great ambiance, great price, great seating. The coconut and chocolate were delicious, all in a quaint Italian-style gelateria. Multiple sorbets, vegan options. Couldn't be more pleased.
Amazing mini Gelato joint that packs a great punch with delicious flavors and decent variety of items including healthy options like salad and sorbet. Prices are actually pretty good for what you are getting. I personally haven't experienced any long lines or people being dumb without masks. 😷 So far so good, recommended!! 👍👍
Stopped by here during cruising grand and got the wake come strawberry crumble and brown sugar butter pecan and both were really good! My husband got the carrot cake and it was also amazing! Highly recommend!
What an amazing wonderful delightful little sidewalk Cafe. They have delicious salads, sandwiches, soup AND GELATO. The GELATO flavors are unusual and seriously yummy. Prices are great.. I wish this wonderful Cafe was closer to me. I'd eat there almost daily for lunch. The staff are really nice, very friendly. The owner is a great lady. She is super outgoing and sweet. I highly recommended this place to everyone!
Such a cute little gem! Gelato is delicious, staff is kind, and there is plenty of seating outside. They also sell goodies from local artisans. Cakes in their display were beautiful. Can’t wait to go back and try their soups, paninis, and coffee!!
I always stop here when I'm in downtown Escondido, as their gelato is SO GOOD. There's a great variety of gelato options, I've tried almost everything they have, and I've never been disappointed. I like the mix of gelato, sandwiches, pastries, and hot and cold beverages. There's also a mix of locally made goods to look at inside too. They're a staple of downtown Escondido to me, so if you're in the area, check it out!
We discovered this place and it is a gem. Their gellatto is fabulous. It is creamy and every day they make new flavors by hand. They also serve great coffee, sandwiches, soup and salads. You can try any flavor before you buy and the employees are very friendly and helpful.
Simply the most delectable gelato made! It is so thick and creamy. The flavors are awesome. They have a flavor for everyone. I love that they use local ingredients from nearby. They really have some creative exotic flavors using citrus and other fruits. Love the chocolate though!! :-)
Gelato flavors are amazing, coffee drinks are good, pastry selection is delicious. Cozy cafe with friendly staff and rotating gelato options. Affogato is a great after dinner treat.
Love everything about this place! The Deedo, my favorite! And the gelatos, oh so good - I always have at least 5 pints at home. Really appreciate and love the workers, always nice and helpful. Nice to see beautiful smiling faces after a long day at work, and to enjoy a nice latte.
Best gelato ever! Seasonal, freshly made, plus many other terrific goodies. I recommend all of their gelato flavors and their Panini sandwiches.
I'm continually surprised (and impressed) that we keep finding new gelato flavors to love, even after coming here for years. The latest discovery for my family is sour cream brown sugar, which reminds me a little bit of cheesecake filling. Love this local business!
Hole in the wall, please and I totally loved it. They have amazing gelato, coffee options. If you are hungry and want a short quick bite, they have ample options. They have a mini outdoor seating. I accidentally discovered this on Google maps when looking for coffee shops open after 5 PM. A great place to catch up with a friend for a cup of coffee or a gelato.
First time coming here and let me tell you it did not disappoint! The flavors are so good, the texture is soft and smooth. The little spoon is cute. The workers are friendly. They offer gelato, gelato cakes and even have some baked goods! Definitely recommend, although it gets busy the line moves by rather fast.
Always crowded but worth the wait.. great unique flavors.
So I was told they would switch up on the gelato flavors. I had coffee toffee, which was amazing. I went back the next week, and they had a different coffee blend. So I got the butter pecan, and it was delicious.
I have never been disappointed by EscoGelato. I only wish they had the spicy chocolate more often. These folks are well worth the visit.
I just had a Harvest Salad and had to comment. It was generous, beautiful portion of just-picked tasting mixed greens, craisins, candied pecans, roasted butternut squash cubes and a gorgonzola sprinkle. A light dressing complimented the perfect combination. Two melt in your mouth multigrain toasts aided in scooping up every last morsel. I was sorry when the experience ended. Known for their creamy, blue ribbon worthy authentic gelato it was a reminder to eat lunch there first and THEN indulge in their famous dessert.
gelato was yummy.plenty of flavors to choose from.I like how cozy it is inside and I really appreciate that they had the AC on. they have indoor and outdoor seating we would've sat outside, but it was raining. The place was packed, but they moved quick.
Just had the BEST sandwich, made by Rosie. Over the top service, kindness and a great pumpkin cake! So great for EscoGelato - but a special shout out to your best employee! Thank you all for hiring her 🙏🏼
Great gelato options, cute indoor space and great expansive outdoor patio to enjoy during the warmer months. This place is always busy, so you know it's truly loved.
Best gelato in town! Good prices and friendly staff! Will probably make this one of the ongoing family treats! Don't forget they have a kid sized cup! 😀
Best bang for buck cafe on Grand. Delicious sandwiches, salads and soups, robust coffee for very fair price, and delicious gelato that's always scooped to max capacity for you. Best joint for lunch or coffee on Grand!
Super friendly staff and their gelato is delicious. Good variety and always mixing it up!
Cosy atmosphere and excellent outdoor section. Great place to stop for Gelato or a nice tomato bisque soup and a sandwich!
EscoGelato is hands-down one of the best spots in Escondido to cool down and treat yourself. The gelato is incredibly smooth, flavorful, and clearly made with love. They have a great rotating selection of classic and creative flavors—everything from pistachio and stracciatella to seasonal favorites that keep you coming back to see what’s new. The shop has a super cozy, welcoming vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating right in the heart of downtown. It’s perfect for an afternoon treat or a post-dinner stroll stop. They also serve great coffee and light bites if you’re in the mood for more than just dessert. Friendly staff, generous samples, and a strong local community feel. A must-visit if you’re in Esco! 🍨💛
Wonderful little Gelato shop. They always have delicious flavors, along with coffee and tea.
We hired EscoGelato to do wedding desert catering at my sister's wedding and it was THE hit of the event! They were so kind and the flavors were so good and reasonably price. Highly recommend them to anyone considering a desert vendor!!!
Amazing gelato. Great portion for the affogato. Double scoop. WOW. Service was phenomenal. A man with one eye approached us and told us a hilarious joke.
Wonderful Gelato and service! We had the fig mascarpone, and cannoli gelatos, and a passion fruit sorbet, AMAZING! The figgy cheese was the hands down favorite, but zero derogatory things could be said about any other flavor we’d tried…. TEN stars!!!
Interesting variety of flavors that were all delicious! Good portion and price. Love the decor and extra outside seating. We tried and loved: mixed berry crumble, sour cream and brown sugar, speculoos latte, brown butter pecan!
This is a great place to cool down during the summer. The Gelatos are big, so a small one was enough for both children and adults. We also ordered coffee to go, they didn’t have nonfat milk at first but before we left they said they did have and made our day. Happy to recommend it and come back.
Great Gelato friendly staff, you may have to wait to get you're order, due to small area but it is worth the wait. We love the place and try and go weekly. update: during Cruising Grand they get a huge line out the door and into the street they work so hard to get everyone served and to be honest it's worth the wait. Great staff Great product!
Excellent place to wait in line for top-notch Gelato. The customers in line are friendly and civilized. The folks running EscoGelato are professional and wonderful to their clientele. Gelato definitely is worthwhile for the after-dinner hours. Be sure to stop by if you don't have dinner at home - they serve wonderful items other than Gelato, too.
I've been coming to this location once in a while ever since it was Blue Mug Coffee & Tea (2002). Among locals, it's a very popular place, with great memories of making new friends, having casual business meetings, going for coffee after downtown events, catching up on the latest community chat or just relaxing with the newspaper and/or a loved one on the weekend. With its wide-open entrance, it's fun watching the world go by on the sidewalk or side street. Years ago, I used to grab coffee there on the way to work. More recently, I’ve had lunch a few times. On my first occasion back in years, I had a little time to relax on the tree-shaded patio before my tomato bisque and mediterranean salad arrived. Slowing down really made me savor the food. That's so important for being able to experience the individual aspects of a meal and what went into the preparation. The texture and subtle herbal flavors of the soup were divine. The artisanal bread was crunchy and delicious. The salad dressing was so fresh and tangy. When I expressed my appreciation, my server told me the details of how they made the meal. I was so impressed. She was clearly someone who loves food, ingredients and the work. That's so important for any establishment. It shows in the final product. The staff were all very hard at work. For patrons, the nice aspect of slowing down is getting to chat with each other on the patio. So, the name of this place may have changed but the vibe remains. Continuity is comforting. The gelato is fabulous. So is their Cali Caprese. Shoppers might also consider this place for quality gifts, e.g. wine, jewelry and goats' milk lotion. It’s great to stroll around town afterwards to check out the murals, stores, farmers’ market, library, etc.
My favorite place in town for coffee. I am a coffee drinker and this place has the best coffee in the County. It's cozy and the staff is friendly. The outdoor patio has that Euro vibe as well. Highly recommend! The only downside is that it does get extremely busy in the evenings on weekends so plan accordingly 😉
I love this place. All my favorites in one spot. Quality espresso, fantastic gelato, amazing tomato soup and salads! The best part is the courteous and professional staff. We go often and even on the busiest days everyone goes the extra mile, even the new hires. Consistency is key. The most important element is hygiene - it’s always clean and staff wear gloves! No hairs in my food ever! Kudos!
Quaint gelato shop right near downtown Escondido. Very well decorated with seating inside and out, including a fire pit outside for those chilly winter nights...so don't let the cold weather stop you from getting that gelato! Plenty of flavors to choose from, and I loved the chocolate mint in a traditional sugar cone. Excellent, friendly service too.
I love, love, love this place. Is it just me or did the gals seem happier to help last year?! In our new freedoms of going out, I look to enjoy people more but service is lacking. Oh well, Gelato is always top-notch, though, and I enjoy the new patio
The staff are friendly and ready to help you. This is a cute, fun little place that seems a combination of bistro, coffee shop and dessert parlor. I had a small serving of mango sorbet, and it was smooth with a nice polish. They didn't skimp on the mangos and use a lot of sugar. One of my favorite flavors I can't find anywhere. Gelato - excellent. It would seem suitable for lunch, although menu was small. I was informed they will expand the unit and soon have an upstairs. It seemed busy, clean. The flavor selection looked delicious.
Cute little place with great Gelato. We always take friends who are in town to this place to get a little treat. Sometimes they run out of the most popular flavors but its worth coming back for again and again.
They always have a great selection of Gelato, sorbets and pastries. Creamy, delicious and refreshing. Outdoor seating area with shade. Lunch is also available. Salads and sandwiches. Also wine! Spicy Mayan chocolate Gelato is my favorite. But there are great flavors all the time for adults and kids!
Always a delight entering Esco Gelato to see what flavors of smooth creamy ice cream they will offer today! Unusual flavors and variations on traditional flavors. They give a good size scoop but it doesn't seem like it because their serving cups are so small. A large cup sure looks like a mini cup at any other ice cream shop. They do allow two half-size servings per cup so you can try two different flavors in one cup. Service is very good from one server to another. Tables outside are not cleaned off from guest to guest, otherwise a pleasant patio feel to it. Go for the flavors, no disappointment at all! So good!
Finally got to try this quaint spot. Had the sour cream brown sugar with a bit of black currant. Absolutely delicious. Never would have thought of the combo but brought me back to Scotland. Prices are reasonable for the portions. Last time we had Gelato was in the San Diego Gaslamp district. This time there was no line out the door.
The flavors of the gelato was very good. We tried peanut butter fudge (tasted like Reeses!), browned butter pecan (so good) , cereal milk (frosted flaked!) And my son had strawberry which he said was creamy and delicious. The shop was on the small side but cozy. I would come back and try different flavors which they say rotates so each trip can be different!
I got the passion fruit gelato, and it was delicious. The atmosphere was cute and cozy with little trinkets you could buy as well. My only problem was that they didn't clean the scoop, not just in between each flavor, but in between each customer. My dad got a chunk of the flavor the person in front of us got, and I got a chunk of the flavor my dad got in my scoop. It concerned me not just for sanitary reasons, but it could be dangerous for those who have allergies.
I've been here twice now and each time their gelato was great! They change up the flavors too so u can try different ones fairly frequently. They're coffee ☕ is pretty good, nothing spectacular but then again they aren't a coffee shop so no biggie. They offer a small menu of food items and my 2nd time there I ordered a Cali caprese panini, which was good but definitely needed some salt or more pesto or something to give it anything besides the bland flavor it had. The staff is very friendly tho! So overall a good experience both times, just subtracting one ⭐ for the very bland panini.
When we moved from downtown San Diego to the beautiful city of Escondido, my wife really wanted paninis. We have been coming to EscoGelato for about a year now, and the paninis have not let us down. Personal favorites are the Deedo and Caprisi because of the pesto. Add a little salad or soup for a complete meal. The cherry on top really is the gelato. I came here for coal and found gold. The variety of flavors are amazing; every time I am here the options are all different than the previous day. Lately I enjoy the classics like chocolate and strawberry. Lastly, customer service is top notch. All the people working here are very nice. I will continue to visit and give my business to EscoGelato.
Giving this cute spot 4 stars for the ambience and the service. It's a really cute shop with quite a few things on menu and a cute outdoor seating area. However the gelato did not impress much. Thr pistachio flavor was very weak could barely tell it was pistachio. The berry flowered sorbet however was good. Didn't try other items but looked enticing. Do try the place.
Now this is a nice little hole in the wall. The gelato is amazing and the fact the make it their is even more amazing. Me and my sister had a lunch date it was around 12 and it was pretty busy. We both got sandwiches bu the only bad thing is that my sisters was made incorrectly. We told one of the employees she musher of been the owner and she got right on it we waited a while and she ended up taking hers to go. Over all this place is great. Friendly employees and great atmosphere. The apricot goT cheese gelato is a must.
Gift card fraud?—A friend of mine gave me a gift certificate for EscoGelato a couple years ago, but until today I hadn’t made the time to go in. When I was sent to pick up food here today, I remembered my $50 gift card. However, when I went to pay, the woman behind the counter said I only had $20 and the computer said I’d come in multiple times over the past three years. They basically shrugged their shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. That card has been in my bedroom and no one in my house has been there until today—so I am pretty upset and definitely warn against getting gift certificates and/or gift cards from them. It’s nice inside and the food is decent, and they are really great about letting you taste test the gelato, but they also forgot our drinks and to hold the cheese on our salad which they then picked the cheese out instead of remaking it so our friend who is allergic to dairy couldn’t eat her salad. I’ve only ever heard good things about this place, so I was bummed to have a bad experience.
I am absolutely furious!!! I will never set foot in that place again. I don't know if there's been a change in management, but I am beyond disappointed with what happened today. Escogelato is not a place my family and I frequent, but we always make an effort to support local businesses. However, the experience we had today was incredibly disheartening. I asked the young man who was serving me if they had reduced their portion sizes, and he just gave me an awkward smile without saying a word. When I approached what seemed to be a supervisor, she reacted in the same disrespectful manner!!!! No answers, no apologies, and no recognition of our dissatisfaction—ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. As we sat there enjoying our gelato, we noticed the same young man serving much larger portions to other customers multiple times. When we asked for a lid or a cup to take our cones home, they were extremely reluctant to help us. What abysmal CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! We will definitely not be coming back after this experience!!!
