My husband and I moved to Tennessee from Colorado, and if you know… you know how hard it is to find truly authentic Mexican food here—especially real green chili. We’ve been searching for years, and this place is the real deal. From the moment we saw Hatch green chili on the menu (and in actual photos!), we knew this wasn’t the usual “tomatillo sauce passed off as green chili.” The food is fresh, authentic, and full of the flavors we’ve missed so much since leaving Colorado. The green chili is incredible—exactly what we grew up with. If you’re a Colorado or Southwest transplant, or just someone looking for genuinely amazing Mexican food, this place is a must. We’re so excited to finally have a go-to spot in Tennessee and will absolutely be spreading the word!
Excellent service and a cozy atmosphere. The chipotle honey salad was super fresh and the flavors mixed well. The brisket quesadillas were stuffed with flavorful and tender brisket. That was better brisket than some major bbq restaurants I have visited. Full bar available. Excellent all around experience.
We have been coming here since they first opened and we have always loved it bite after savory bite! They have the best hatch pepper salsa that’s gotta little bit of kick to it, made fresh in house. The dos tacos either baja fish (mahi-mahi), the original which is a type of (pot roast braised beef) with a fresh fried taco shell or the (shrimp and bacon) is the way we go. They also have a happy hour but you have to order at the bar or from the high top chairs.
A nice surprise as we were in the area searching for dinner options and took a chance. Everything was excellent. Salsa was amazing. We had the dip sampler, tacos and carnitas fajitas.
This place has a nice ambiance, and our server was great! (unfortunately we didn’t ask his name) The food is more Mexican fusion, it looked and tasted good. Overall, recommended for a nice dinner place.
I would highly recommend Sopapilla's! We went there for a late lunch and the fajitas were great! Great service too. We sat at the bar and Lori the bartender made what may be the best skinny margarita I've ever had!
Amazing, high quality food in a clean, comfortable environment. Our party of 5 had a great time. The chips were crispy and fresh and the salsa was the best I've had in a restaurant. Loved the shrimp and grits. And our server Andy was very friendly and attentive.
Taquitos, green chile stew and sopillias were delish making me miss my red and green chile from my home in Albuquerque, New Mexico!!
Sopapilla's was a good spot for lunch. The chips and salsa are excellent. The street tacos were very tasty even though they were on the smaller side. I had a cucumber margarita which was tasty.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and excellent food. My wife and I have been here multiple times, with my order from our latest visit pictured below (chicken sopapilla, their version of chicken and waffles). Pickled vegetables came on the side, too. We really enjoy each time we dine at this establishment and you will too!
Great place for Sunday brunch! Unlimited mimosas and a great selection of food. The prime rib was so good along with the hash browns. Can’t wait to come back! Great service too by Andy! Thank you! Update August 2024: had the street tacos and a prickly pear marg. Delish!
Great restaurant that makes everything fresh including their tortillas. It is New Mexico style food. We ordered the dip sampler, beef/chicken/shrimp fajitas, street tacos, fish taco, shrimp taco, stuffed sopapilla, and regular sopapillas with honey for desert. We will come back for more.
Steve Dale's creative New Mexican Restaurant featuring many southwest favorites such as blue corn enchiladas, southwest green chili sauces, Tamales, and of course excellent tacos & 🍹margaritas (with options to add spice to any drink!). The hospitality is top notch and welcoming (shout out to Andy, an excellent and kind waiter!).
The shrimp & grits was a complete twist on the authentic Cajun style. INCREDIBLE. Love the corn masa & the chipolte shrimp. 🤤 Also highly recommend ordering the pineapple bacon guacamole! Wow.
Now, this is authentic New Mexican dining. This neighborhood gem serves delicious food. I had their signature dish, the Blue Corn Chicken Enchiladas with a fried egg on top. And of course we enjoyed hot fresh sopapillas with honey for dessert. Such a treat!
We had great service and good food. Good chips n salsa, margaritas, grilled pineapple quac, shrimp and grits was fine, and quesadillas.
I tried the lobster street tacos and paired them with the bourbon barrel beer. The food and drink were both delicious. I was there with a decent sized group, and we were in the private back room, and it was very nice. There was a large table that allowed us to all sit around it, and we were able to have a pleasant conversation without having to yell.
Delicious cocktails like their margaritas and palomas. Gluten free options such as bibb lettuce wrapped tacos. I have tried all of their street tacos but prefer the pork belly the most. Outdoor seating on their patio for a nice lunch or dinner. There are heaters for colder weather. Finish off your meal with their signature soppapillas and honey(not gf btw).
I've been to Sopapillas four times in the last 6 weeks. Everything I've had has been outstanding. Sopapilla platter, hangar steak fajitas, pineapple margarita with a tajin rim, and today's lunch, Tres Tamales (pictured). The food is delicious, and the service is what all restaurants wish they had. My server today was Maria, and I've never had better service. Kudos to a very well-run restaurant.
First time visiting, and both food and drink were excellent! Server, Bridgette, was top notch… so sweet, attentive and personable! Will definitely return. Not a great photo, but I was busy enjoying!
Great service, decent food. The tacos def lacked flavor- needed some queso and spice. Ordered the Nashville hot chicken and it was not spicy at all. The Cajun shrimp was sweet. very odd. The tres enchiladas were very good- the chicken was the best!!
From New Mexico, food looks good and maybe I’ll convince my wife to go someday. I found you on YouTube from Drew.
Great food, warm/inviting atmosphere, and wonderful service. The flavors were fresh, and delicious. We happened to stumble on this place, and are happy we did.
I got the shrimp and grits, and it may have been the best I've ever had at a restaurant. They make it with tamales. I really cannot begin to describe how thoroughly enjoyable it is.
Update on July 28th: The owner immediately responded back with his contact information. We spoke about the incident and he listened and expressed sympathy. He just wanted me to speak up at the restaurant but I didn’t want to make a scene. He offered a gift card so with that being said, I’m going to give it a second chance. I do not want this experience to stop other people for going especially when the owner immediately wants to fix it. You do not see that often. Thanks This is my first time visiting Sopapillas in Franklin’s. I ordered the vegan tortilla soup and 10 minutes later I found out they didn’t make the soup today. So I specifically ordered a taco with just beans, lettuce and cheese and emphasized beans like 3 times to our server. I also made him aware I was a vegetarian. I asked if he had any questions on my ordered and he nodded no. Needless to say, I took a bite out of my taco and it had meat in it. I was hoping the manager would walk around since it had at least 5 other families. When our server came around I told him it had meat and it didn’t bother him. I have Been a vegetarian for 35 years and today was my first day of taking a bite and immediately spitting it out and it didn’t bother him at all. On top of that, our salsa had a string, plastic or something in it. I didnt Want to cause a scene since I was on a date with my husband but just disappointed and disgusted. The manager should have done a better job of checking each table instead of not being around. On top of that, I had to pay for the meal. What the heck, it was clearly the young sever fault but he should have talked to the manager or the boss when stuff like that happens. Yes, I had to pay for my meal.
Unbelievably good food. If you have never experienced Nee Mexican food l, try the green chili cheeseburger.
It is really hard for my family to go out and enjoy a meal due to the majority of us having celiac. We were able to enjoy our meal at sopapillas gluten-free. The server, Lori, seem to have a lot of knowledge when it came to protecting us. She made us feel at ease. And the food was delicious. Thank you. We will be back. The avocado chips are a wonderful addition to their menu. They aren’t free but worth it.
They call this New Mexican cuisine. All I know it was fantastic. Hot and fresh chips and delicious salsa. Rhe hatch chile margarita was tasty. The Sopapilla platter was amazing. A homemade blue corn beef taco, a chicken enchilada covered in hatch chile sauce which would be good on a shoe, and a corn and cheese tamale, which was to die for. Amazing meal and service. And my server Billy was top notch.
This has to be one of the best restaurants in Franklin. We got the sopapillas platter which had a taco, tamale, and enchilada with rice and beans. It was incredible. and to top it off, Cora made us an incredible set of sopapillas for a dessert! Lastly was the ambiance of this place was so cool. Perfect for getting together with friends like we did tonight!! We will be back for sure.
One of my favorite restaurants in Franklin! Food is always excellent - best carne asada tacos I’ve found. Their fresh sopapillas are next level good and love that they’re adding seed oil free chips now too. Plus their team is always great — one time I got home and realized there was a mistake on my to go order and they fixed it while also throwing in free appetizers! I’d eat here every day if I could.
We visited this restaurant yesterday with a big group of seven kids and five moms, so you can imagine the chaos! But the service was absolutely amazing. Our server, Ryan, deserves a special mention for his patience, professionalism, and warm attitude. He made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make our time enjoyable. The food was great, but it was really the service that made the experience memorable. Thank you, Ryan, for helping us have such a wonderful outing! Highly recommend this place for families and groups.
My wife and I love this place. We were regulars when they had their Hendersonville location. Now we make our way down to Franklin whenever we can. Queso is top notch. Shrimp quesadillas will make you question ordering another one. Overall our favorite New Mexico style cuisine.
It's very good. I do wish they wouldn't puree their salsa, it's basically liquid and you can't actually scoop any on the chips, which are very very very thin. Food from menu is awesome though. Please fix the salsa 🙏
First time ordering the Stuff Sopapilla. It was good but for $17 I expected more meat. There was little meat in there that I had to eat more chips to fill my stomach. The picture is misleading. It’s smaller than it looks. Edit: 9/25/2024 wife’s birthday. Had the tres enchiladas all beef. It was very good. Service was great. Seems like all the waiters and waitresses worked together and not just their own table which is nice to see. 4/5 had the tres enchiladas again but it was cooked longer in the oven and the cheese burnt a little. Looked good though and tasted good as before.
First time visiting this restaurant food was good, service was good only reason 4 out of 5 I ordered a old fashioned and the glass was filled with ice to the top I ask could I get another one made with less ice in it when my drink came back the used same glass and it tasted water down. It's the only drank I get when I eat out so I've had a few. Picture of drank in photos the second time the brought it back look how light it is. But positive note the experience service and food was good
Locally owned and operated, overall pretty good experience. Not very busy for lunch, so would recommend if you're looking for a quick bite. Food is really good, but it is also a little pricey. Not the cheapest Tex Mex in town, but pretty solid quality on the food front. Chips and salsa is also tasty! Check it out if you're on this side of Franklin, but be aware that finding an open parking space could be a little bit of a challenge given its shared location.
Nice restaurant. We were there for Sunday lunch and the food was tasty. Burger was good, fries were real and good, shrimp was good, price was ok too. If you live local them this is a must at least once. If you are a visitor and not wanting to eat in Old Town then you will probably enjoy stopping here.
Es comida mexicana para los gringos, necesita mas sazón 😂 but it’s a nice spot and the food tastes fresh. The wait staff was super friendly. All the drinks my husband and I ordered were great except for the Mojito…Cuba judges you, Sopapilla 😂 But again the other drinks were good. I enjoyed my Paloma y Sangria 🍹
We dined around 4pm on a mid-week day and were greeted and seated promptly. The atmosphere was mild and appealing. Billy welcomed us and proceeded to serve us promptly, keeping us supplied with refills of thin delicate and non greasy delicious tortilla chips with somewhat peppery spiced salsa and well as sodas. We ordered the beef taco duos and Street beef brisket. While the fillings were deliciously built and layered into soft shells, all the shells gave way and fell apart within one or two bites. In spite of this mishap we enjoyed our meals. The prices were a bit higher than typical of Mexican restaurants but worth considering for the occasional visit.
Their food portions have decreased substantially. I order the Ahi Tuna Tacos and Large Queso every time. It has been a few months since I’ve gone and this time, they fill the queso up HALF WAY and put AT LEAST 50% less Tuna protein in the tacos. IT TASTE GOOD BUT IT IS WEAK FOR THE $40+ you spend.
Our first trip to Sopapilla’s. I was told the burger was the best in town. I ordered the brisket burger. It was cooked perfectly but the flavor was a bit bland. I wanted to like it more but it was just average for a restaurant burger. The tacos that my wife ordered were fine but nothing special. It may have been an off day in the kitchen so we’ll try it again sometime. The server was attentive and polite and the atmosphere was nice.
Upon arrival when stepping inside it spelt of underarm sweat, once seated service was okay at that time, chips and salsa came to table, salsa had a bean taste ordered sweet tea to drink, and the El pepe shrimp qasadilla, once food arrived to table it looked good but had a weird sause on it and black beans which isn't listed on the menu. Paid and waited for my Togo sweet tea for a go while then was brought an unsweetened tea. Overall, experience was terrible. Maybe it's a good restaurant for the entitled, uppity styled class people who just kept rolling in.
Would actually give it a 3.8. Last time we ate here was back in 2010 when it opened. Kept seating people before us until I complained rather loudly. Then someone tried to buy $100 worth of ITunes from the credit card that we used. Called manager & he basically said not his problem. So decided 9 years was enough time for the restaurant to have changed. Our server, Luis, was gracious & attentive. Salsa was good. Friend's enchilada was okay. Not a whole lot of flavor. I got the Sopapilla's Platter. The beef enchilada was just okay. The taco had huge pieces of chicken. Really needed to be shredded. The tamale started out with an amazing flavor but then I got to the peppers. I couldn't taste anything else after that except the burning of my lips & mouth.
The Hostess was Nasty with a Double N. We called ahead to see if there was a wait. There was a 20 minutes. We were there in 3 minutes & waited 40 minutes with most of the tables empty. That's understandable in these times, but the hostess gave people tables ahead of us which were clearly not reservations. The service was Wonderful! The food was really good. Not great. The salsa had a grainy taste of cumin in it, so if they usually cook it, they didn't this time. I had the chicken filled sopapilla which was okay. I don't like spicy foods as a rule, but the flavors were spot on but lacked any kind of fat in the filling which made it dry. My family said they had a good meal. On the whole, I'd rather be burned at the stake then have to deal with that hostess again.
Love the Atmosphere and pretty good service but food was way over rated. And honestly, I would put this in my top 3 as most overrated and overvalued mexican in Middle TN! Why you ask? Well the food was not very good, and being a real foodie I ordered allot of it. To start ordered the Chilli con queso with added brisket was almost disgusting, like with weird sauce on top of the cheese like an aioli sauce that didn't go well at all. Ordered the bean dip, and was another disappointment. The Chips and Salsa that come free were pretty good! We ordered the skirt steak Fajitas for two. The home made tortillas were under cooked, the ingredients for the portion size was off and doughy, thick and hard to eat. And the steak was over cooked and very bland. You could tell the salt and pepper was actually added after the steak was cooked instead of as it was cooking to add to the natural flavor and juices of the steak. Major bummer... Anyway, we didn't want to try the dessert at this point. I really hoped this would have been a winner but we were $80 into a meal for two and it was best to grab the check and "get out of dodge". Hope this helps you guys. I think a better choice would have been to stop by Uncle Julios in brentwood.
My perception is that the food is more aesthetic focus than flavor. Not generous in quantity. Food is also pricey. Service was absent most of the time. The area, setup etc are great!
I have been dining at Sopapilla’s periodically for the past five years and have always found it to be exceptional until this week. Admittedly, several months had lapsed since my last experience. I was disappointed to learn that the chicken and sopapillas dish had been altered from actual fried chicken to chicken strips that appeared to be pre-battered and do not resemble the original dish in texture or taste. Unfortunately, the menu still describes the dish as “fried chicken”—misleading at minimum. My concern was verbalized to our waitress who seemed unconcerned about the drop in quality and stated that she has only known the dish to include strips. I speculate that she did not mention it to the owner. Secondly, the sopapillas were not fried to a golden brown, and ended up with a doughy, dense texture without characteristic rise when the dish was served. This was corroborated by my dining companion whose sopapilla was also described as “flat and doughy.” Another mishap occurred when my dining companion ordered Mexican corn on the cob, but received what appeared to be a corn salad with no cob in sight. The waitress’ explanation for bringing the wrong item was that she did not want him to wait longer for his meal by correcting the order. (??) Lastly, I concur with another diner’s critique that mopping/swiffering around customers during their meal should not be happening. Despite these mishaps, I’m not ready to take the establishment off my list of favorites as when the meal is prepared as described, it does not disappoint. I am from New Mexico and know the uniqueness of Hatch chilies and good sopapillas prepared well.
Update: I emailed Steve on 9/13/25 per his request but here we are 11/5/25 with no response. I’ve called the restaurant asking for him and left my information with the hostess but have not received a call back. We came with here with family from out of town who’ve never ate there on 9/6/25. Ryan J was our server who appeared to be under the influence of a drug/substance. We came for dinner yet he greeted tables saying “Good Morning” and would block the hostess from getting by with a new table to seat because he was glued to the tv. The hostess stood there with new guests and then had to go around the middle booth section to seat them in the back area. He was all over the place and forgot several items that were ordered or requested. When it was time to pay the bill there was a 20% gratuity on the tab for “large party”. We had 4 adults and two kids with one of them being under the age of 3 who ate off my plate and received a cup of water with no refill. Like seriously? If he was attentive and a good server in general then I would not of had a problem at all but this guy wasn’t on top of his game. I was embarrassed and had to apologize to my family because I talked up the restaurant so much since it’s an all-time favorite for us but the experience was rough.
Thank you very much for dinner. As a manager I would never question costumers why they didn’t leave a tip, not with an angry face, it this is disrespectful for any costumers, its doesn’t matter whats the reason, maybe they are poor but they make the effort to come to my restaurant, you don’t wanna ambarrace your costumer. Service was very good, food almost good. Normally when food is not that good i would say nothing, I just never come back. But it was embarrassing leaving that place. My apologies for not writing the amount of the tip, i was trying to be nice tipping better than 28% to young server.
Since you erased my review on your Facebook page and didn’t respond, I’m putting it here as well! Was in about three weeks ago or so and the bartender was a cranky older woman who acts like it pains her to even smile. Service was slow, food mediocre at best, and the owner is always mopping during open hours while you’re eating. I mean, everytime my husband and I visit!!! Can’t you afford a cleaning company sir??? It’s rude to mop around your customers while they’re eating. I could understand if a spill happened but my gosh please give it a rest. My husband and I have always come here but in the last two years it’s just fallen off. Gossiping employees standing around gossiping with the owners. From what I understand (overheard your staff talking btw) you can’t keep great employees or managers either. Good luck staying open another two years sir.
