Says what it does and does it best. Great service and good food. Loved the presentation as well. Especially loved the texture of beef, tofu and glass noodles. Will be back for more!
I went there with my Taiwanese friend for dinner after a hike. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and ordering food was easy by scanning a QR code. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, with soft music playing in the background. Our food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. The scallion bread was especially good, not too salty and the stir-fried cabbage was cooked perfectly. The portion sizes were generous too. I’ll definitely be coming back with my family. It’s just a few miles from Highway 101 and easy to find using Google Maps.
We would have given it four stars if it based on the second visit at which we ordered Taiwanese Spicy Hot Soup and Sliced Beef. Both items underwhelmed us as we had high expectation given by our first visit. The soup was too spicy and the slice beef was lack in flavor. We really enjoyed House Special Hot Soup and Holy Cow on our first visit (highly recommended). The soup had a very clean refreshing flavor, and the holy cow had this tender and jelly like texture, and chilly oil flavor. We finished every bit of it.
Good hot pot, served individually rather than family style. Customizations are not allowed. I ordered the beef. Their spicy garlic soy sauce is incredible, I mixed it into the rice. I will say that I'm someone with a fairly average spice tolerance (for someone raised on not highly spicy food) and I thought the mild was fairly spicy. If you're not used to eating spicy food I wouldn't recommend going much higher than that.
I got the Milk Cream Curry Hot Soup and it was delicious! It had a very flavorful curry broth and a subtle sea salt foam on top. The sliced pork was clumped together, but was overall very tender and soaked up the broth well. The sliced potatoes and the fish balls were my favorite part! FYI: It came with vermicelli noodles already, so I recommend getting the rice as your free side. My cousin got the Korean Bean Paste Soup "medium" and it was really spicy for her, so be careful when you're ordering your spice level! This is located in the Osaka Marketplace plaza and it was very empty on a Friday night at 7:00 PM. A pretty small location compared to others that I have been to, but overall very clean interior. The staff are a little awkward, but they get the job done. I appreciate that they offered to give us extra soup broth mid-way! Very considerate.
I remember when this place used to be another hong kong style cafe called Cafe Ophelia, however, it could never compete the same level around other hong kong style cafes like A+ Hong Kong Cafe down the road or Aberdeen cafe in the same plaza. It had fried rice, noodles and many milk tea flavors. Later, Boiling Point opened and was (and probably still is) the first of its kind around the area! I visited it multiple times and the hot pots are just amazing! From the small things like I ❤BP, to the live fire that makes your pot hot as you eat your bowl of rice to even the Chinese name of boiling point printed on the stove! The service here is somewhat okay, as the servers arnt really that attentive and only pay attention if you want to order or pay, no live refills of anything, just another cup of whatever you're drinking, such as water or black or green tea. I guess if the main star is the hot pots, there really isn't much to explain is there? Try to go around late lunch hours such as 3-5 P.M as tasty as they seem, dont fill you as you think it would, so maybe order another hot pots to go if you're in a pinch
Decent Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Very loud and rice was not fresh though. Also the soup was very salty. Quite noisy inside and the menu was very poorly designed with how they basically upload a picture of what I would guess was a paper menu they used to give out. Not sure I’d come back here given rice was not fresh and rather pricy compared to similar caliber hot pot places in other cities.
I was a guest with my god daughter and her parents. Long wait on a weekday lunch (40 minutes). Inattentive young staff. I feel like they're missing a manager / owner presence. Lackluster food and if you're selling point is the experience then the experience you must have going for yourself, which they don't really. If you want hot pot and better service or experience explore elsewhere first
The waitress was quick to seat us, but slow to take our order and even slower to refill our water. They used smaller paper cups for water, which I found strange. Giving the waitress the benefit of the doubt, I can understand that it might be difficult to tell whether a cup is empty. However, it would be best not to assume that everyone has enough water. I have been to similar places, like Tasty Pot, and the customer experience can vary quite a bit. The prices here are on the higher side, but the portions are slightly larger. I ordered the Thai tomato soup, which was tasty but definitely on the sweeter side; tom yum soup is not supposed to be sweet. It seems they added some sugar or sweetener to the soup base. We also ordered the House Special soup base (House special (stinky stinky pot in Chinese) The texture of the cabbage in the soup was enjoyable, but if you're unsure about this dish, you might want to choose something else, as the soup has a strong smell of stinky tofu and is definitely an acquired taste. Overall, the restaurant was decent. The lighting was dim, and the place was neat, but the tables were quite close together, making it easy to overhear other people's conversations.
After they opened it in Northern California for a few years, I felt that it was no longer so delicious because of the changes in ingredients and the taste of the dipping sauce. I tried Fremont again today and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was much better than four years ago. Dipping sauce is much better and more meat now . $20 for lunch , come with drink , rice or noodle your choice. Will get this restaurant 3.5 star
I like the hotpot from boiling point. I started to follow the food when it was only in LA. Their sauces, garlic hot sauces are very taste with the hot pot. However, I was disappointed this one in Fremont. First, we ordered the flaming level of spiciness. It's disappointed. It's not that spicy at all. Second, ww ordered the free drinks that offers during lunch. But they were delivered in wrong order. I asked the waiter three times, he was firmly sure that he brought us the right one. We decided to let it go. Third, our hotpots was another disaster. Well, it wasn't a big deal that he put the wrong orders to wrong person. But, it just made us feel not that pleasant. The last, I had to ask them where was my appetizer. After all, these impacted my mood.
I have long been a loyal customer to Boiling Point. But the “11. The Hot Green” pot i just had was just horrible. Like I get it that the point of this pot is to have Sichuan pepper to make your mouth numb, but they added so much to a point that the entire pot just tasted bitter — literally every bite is just sole bitterness, no flavor of the meat or veggies or anything else. Do not order 11. The Hot Green.
Boiling Point used to be my go-to for something quick and cozy. The individual hot pots always hit the spot. I don't know what happened lately but it hasn't had the same quality as it use to. Mind you I use to eat this at least once a week. The takeout portions barely come with enough broth to cover the toppings, and the soup itself feels more watered down than it used to. Portions used to be generous, but now they feel noticeably smaller. It’s disappointing, because this place used to be so so good. Hope they turn things around because when it was good, it really is one of the best comfort meals around
Disappointing. The seafood was mostly regular meat, lots of noodles. They make people wait, while there are empty tables. You gets two of everything. Two overcooked shrimps, two tiny clams, two small rings of squid, lots of starchy clear noodle, topped with lettuce. They are amazing at ignoring the customers; an art form. Even to get napkins. The 4 causes they have are amazing. Garlic sweet chili rocked. Garlic bean paste seems super popular.
I’ve consider BP decent quality in past experiences. This chain was by far the worse. The meat was layers thick all stuck together in the soup AND the appetizer. Very lousy. It was like a meat crepe. Didn’t bother separating them or lack of defrosting or simple bad quality stale meat. Soup flavor (more water down) was also worse than the other chains in LA
There was an incredibly rude male server who gave us bad looks that made us feel incredibly uncomfortable. He got the wrong ingredients in our order and when we asked him to correct it he lost his temper and yelled at us and tried to blame us. I didn't know they hired such incompetent people here. Their food is incredibly shallow and bland. We were given around 10 dollars worth of ingredients paid over $50 for the entire meal. This store is cheap and treats its customers like trash. The male server is incredibly creepy and stared at my mother with this lustful gaze and we were terrified of him. Do not eat here.
