Great authentic Chinese food! Friendly staff. Large portion food. I love their fish! Every time we come, they provide small side dishes that are tasty. My kids love eating there
Spices Garden is conveniently located in the Mission San Jose area. There’s ample parking spaces and close to 680 freeway. The ambience is quiet. Service is friendly. Affordable. Food is authentic Chinese Hunan style. If you are craving spicy, savory, authentic Chinese cuisine, check out Spcies. They might show up under their Chinese name, Fan Hunan Bistro on DoorDash. The restaurant has been here for many years. Great food and reasonably price.
My First 5-Star Review for a Chinese Restaurant! This is the first time I've given a Chinese restaurant a 5-star review, and it truly deserves it. It's a Sichuan-style hot and spicy restaurant, and even though I'm not from Sichuan, I found the food absolutely delicious! The service is excellent — the waiters are very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained, and the food is not only fresh but also prepared with care. Everything tasted authentic and flavorful. It's rare to find such a high-quality and authentic Sichuan restaurant in the U.S., and I'm so glad I discovered this one. Highly recommended!
This is the best and kindest Chinese restaurant that I have had since the end of the pandemic! The food is plentiful, clean and delicious to the palette, and the service is kind and Amazingly over the top! Before I left with my takeout, there were three what looked to be father, mother and daughter members standing at the front door to thank me for my order and to say God Bless you on my journey. In today's America and economy, a GREAT MEAL doesn't get much better than that! Give it a try you won't be sorry!
I haven't been here for a while. Heard there's a new owner so decided to drop by to try their new menu. The service is still good as the new owner dropped by to check on us. The Chongqing Spicy Chicken and Fragrant Lamb are very tasty authentic. Highly recommend that if you're into spicy deep fried food.
We had the Golden Soup Beef, Spicy Lamb, Dry Pot Shredded Cabbage, and Golden Soup Sea Bass. Everything was super flavorful! The lamb was tender with no gamey taste, and the cabbage had that perfect smoky crunch. The sea bass was so fresh (they use live fish!), and the rich bone broth with rice noodles made it even better. If you’re into bold, spicy flavors, definitely check this place out!
Fan Bistro is a great place to try authentic Chinese cuisine. The menu is extensive, with a wide variety of dishes to choose from, including Hunan, Sichuan, and Huai Yang specialties. I've tried a few different dishes, and they've all been delicious. Service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is quite elegant with a touch of Zen element. I've been to Fan Bistro for both lunch and dinner, and both times have been great experiences. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Chinese meal.
Fan Hunan Bistro is nestled in a quiet neighborhood of Mission Hill Fremont. The cozy atmosphere with very casual dining. The food is very different from rest of Chinese restaurants in Bay Area. They actually make everything in scratch with traditional ingredients and cooking methods. My family ordered Nanking duck, baked fish with Sichuan red chilies sauce, stir fry kidney with black fungus, spare ribs with garlic and green onions, range free chicken with green peppers. Every dish has its own flavor and texture. I’m a foodie and have been visiting hundreds restaurants every year in sf Bay Area. And fan Hunan bistro definitely have me to add favorite on the google map.
One of the best Hunan restaurants I have been to. With so many restaurants in the area, we are so happy to have found this gem. Atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Food is fresh, authentic and generous. For the quality of the food, the prices are very reasonable. The owner was friendly, personal and professional. She constantly checked on us to make sure that we had everything we needed. Our meal consisted of five fishes and all met our expectations. My kids who are extremely picky gave this restaurant a 10 out of 10 when I asked them to rate on a scale if 1 being the worst to 10 bring the best. We ate so much and still had left overs. It was such a pleasant experience! Highly recommend this restaurant to all.
A newly-open Hunan Food restaurant in Fremont, I have been craving for some authentic Chinese spicy food, first time checked in the restaurant today. Cozy atmosphere, hospitable hosts, friendly staffsdelicious dishes, generous portions at a reasonable price, a very delightful and enjoyable lunch experience. Will definitely recommend it to myfriendsespecially those who live In Fremont, you can't miss it!
Great place if you like unique Sichuan cuisine. They started in San Francisco and Foster City a d now in Fremont. Traffic during rush hour from the Peninsula will take 1 1/2 hours at time. When you arrive, you will enjoy the warm atmosphere, great food & wine. They serve many unique dishes and traditional item. Price is good value for the quality & portion.
I'm generally kind to the local food businesses but I had such a bad experience, I have no choice but to ding this place with a 1-star. 1. First and foremost, they charged me almost $50 for one spicy boiled fish dish which was marked around $25 on the menu. I only realized later because I was in a rush and have to drive back to the restaurant to resolve the issue. 2. The spicy boiled fish was nothing like the photos online. It had lots of leek and the fish was more sour than spicy. 3. The spicy chicken we ordered was drenched in oil and there was absolutely no meat on the cut up chicken wings. Even the beans were incredibly oily. I was charged $93 for 3 dishes (see bill) which was daylight robbery for the food quality. [EDIT] I brought my half-eaten takeout back to the restaurant to share my feedback with them. I have to say they were at least kind and understanding and waived my bill. I offered to pay for the beans which were ok, but they refused. I really hope this was a one-off! I've updated the rating to 3-stars to reflect at least good customer service.
Food was good, but a little pricier than some other places. Green beans and eggplant was very good and had lots of flavor. The fish was also good, but overall on par with other Sichuan restaurants. The braised pork was tender and also very good. Lots of garlic in all of the dishes. The noodles didn't have any taste, but that was expected. It was a change of taste and texture to break up the spice. The fish dish was definitely the spiciest, but not overwhelmingly spicy. Other notes: No wait on a Tuesday evening at 7pm. Interior was surprisingly nice. The service was so-so, fairly minimal - they refilled our tea when we turned the cap.
I’ve gotten food to go from this place a few times during the pandemic, and mostly enjoyed them. Saw they started indoor dining so decided to come try in person. I don’t think they are quite staffed properly for the lunch crowd. I saw only one person who was allowed to take phone calls, take orders from dine-in patrons, and entering in orders into system. I wanted to add an item, and that proved extremely difficult as I couldn’t flag down anyone. The table next to me waited a long time to order, the table across from me kept asking for their missing dish.. there was a long line outside of people waiting to be seated or to pick up their to-go order that weren’t ready. Overall just total chaos. Now the food. I ordered the numbingly spicy kidney and that was delicious. I didn’t realize that was a cold appetizer dish but that’s my own fault. Although I don’t know why they felt the need to provide a whole plate of cilantro… was a bit excessive. The boiling fish dish has good flavor, but I was a little disappointed that it only came with very small amount of veggies. I mean, that’s sometimes the best part of the dish, veggies on the bottom soaked up with delicious spicy flavor! One more thing- on the menu it says paying by cash gives you 5% discount above $20. I asked the waitress about it and she insisted it was above $50 and I must’ve read it wrong on the menu. I then showed her the picture I took which clearly says $20, then she said the menu is outdated and still will not honor it. I will live without the $2 discount, but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Overall I would say food taste and value is 4 stars, but overall dining experience is only 2. I will not return until they straighten out staffing, if at all. Understand it’s difficult to reopen restaurants at this time, but I also think they need the honest reviews from their patrons to know what to improve.
