We ordered the Kalgooksu, janchi guksu, and the shrimp+veggies tempura. Large portions for all three and the Kalgooksu and the tempura were excellent! However, the janchi guksu was mediocre and I wouldn't recommend it. Service was great! Edit: We came here 2 more times and the Kalgooksu is always amazing! The broth is very flavorful but it's not greasy. 1 bowl is large enough for 2 people so don't make the mistake of ordering too much.
Loved this place! Food is very good and they give you so much food for the money. First, they give you barley rice and radish kimchi (on the house), so you can make bibimbop as an appetizer, and then the handmade noodles are simply delicious with really good broth....reminded me of some of the best noodles from Korea. If you are in O.C., this place should be on your list to visit.
Delicious * All Family Style* #10. fried dumplings #11. ramen and rice cakes mixed with spicy sauce #12. squid & vegetables tempura and complementary ice tea, kimchi with brown rice.
A great kalgooksu place! We had kalgooksu, tempura and spicy noodle. It was so good. U never get disappointed. It is so sad they r not doing so well in this pandemic time.
BESTTT FOOD IN K-Town! 100% must try!! EVERY-TIME I come to Cali I have to go to this place!
Absolutely delicious and authentic Korean dishes. Highly recommended!
Did not know about GG location, always we to LA, but no need to go to LA anymore. Kalgooksoo is great, makes you feel warm on a cold day like today. Will be coming around more often!
Great noodle and kimchi. Hand made dumplings were great too. Would recommend to anyone.
SOUTH KOREA 🇰🇷 Excerpt from Eat the World Los Angeles: Walking into the serene conditions of this Garden Grove restaurant is almost like a wave of calm. The tasteful wood accents and decor give the feeling of entering a warm old cabin during the dead of winter. Whether it is hot or cool outside, these are great conditions to eat kal-guksu, a dish that originated as a summer meal. No matter what you order, every meal here begins with two bowls rather than the usual suspects of small plate banchan. Barley rice and yeolmu kimchi come in those bowls, the latter made from the greens of young summer radish. This is a bit more crunchy than cabbage-based kimchis, and feels very summery. Along with the sesame oil that you will find on the table, and maybe some gochujang, you can make your own little bowl of bibimbap before the orders start arriving. For good reason, the house special kal-guksu ($10.99) is part of almost everyone's meal here. Big groups might order two or three portions, which are put into increasingly large vessels to be ladled out to everyone in smaller bowls at the table. The few solo diners that were noticed all had the same posture, hunched over and almost inhaling their warming bowl.

Hidden gem Korean spot! The seafood knife-cut noodles are a must — generous in portion, especially for the price. The fried tempura plate is easily one of the best I’ve had — light, crisp. This place is seriously underrated. Foodies should be lining up.
Hang A Ri Kalgooksu is a hidden gem that brings the true flavors of Korean comfort food to life. Tucked away in a quiet corner, this unassuming spot is all about the quality of its food, particularly the kalguksu, a traditional handmade noodle soup. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by the warm, homey atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re about to enjoy a meal at a close friend’s house. The star of the menu is, of course, the kalguksu. The broth is rich and deeply flavorful, clearly simmered for hours to achieve that perfect balance of savory and umami. The noodles are the highlight—thick, chewy, and with just the right amount of bite, they’re clearly made with care and attention. One of the standout dishes was the kimchi kalguksu, which had just the right amount of spice and tang from the kimchi, adding a delightful kick to the soothing broth. The mandu (Korean dumplings) were another must-try, with their thin, delicate skins and generously filled interiors, perfectly steamed to seal in all the juices. The service was friendly and efficient, with staff who are clearly passionate about the food they serve. They made sure we had everything we needed and were quick to offer recommendations when asked. Hang A Ri Kalgooksu is the kind of place that keeps you coming back. It’s comforting, authentic, and unpretentious—a perfect spot for a satisfying meal that feels like a warm hug in a bowl. If you’re in the mood for something hearty and homemade, this is the place to go
We're here almost every Saturday because we enjoy the food so much. We get the 모밀 동치미 국수 (cold noodle soup with radish) and tempura. Highly recommended.
The kalguksu here is absolutely delicious, with rich and comforting broth and chewy handmade noodles. The barley rice served on the side is nutty and wholesome, making the perfect pairing. Generous portions and heartwarming flavors — I’ll definitely be back!

Food was good here! We liked the mandu and kalguksu. The service was just ok, but overall we enjoyed here and will come back. Most everything here is in Korean, just a heads up.
Overall service was satisfactory and atmosphere was just Korean restaurant as you expect. Ordered Hang A Ri Kalgooksu but honestly speaking, LA branch had better flavor. When I arrived 11:04AM in the Friday, 70% of seat is already occupied, so when you are planning to visit, you may have some wait times.
Boribab and Kimchi are so nice. Only thing is that this store doesn’t accept apple pay. Please keep your plastic card except Amex.
An authentic Korean experience. The spicy ramen was full of flavor. the tempura portion was huge, slightly crunchy n mild in flavor.

It's a store that serves traditional Korean kalguksu in a jar, and I think it's okay because it's large in quantity. I recommend that barley rice and young radish kimchi are worth visiting as a very unique store for free.
Came here with hungry appetite and left with full stomach! I wish tteokbokki was served on hot stone to keep it warm but other than that, food was not bad. I thought it was decently priced as well.

Everything was average. Cooking style of tempura was old school. We used to go this restaurant quite often in past. But, restaurant just stayed as it was when others improved.

Surprisingly bad customer service, hope this was just an off day for the waitress. Could use some background music I, news, k-drama. Food was ok, not great, but not that many kalgooksu places in the area. Kalgooksu was ok, had the better broth out of the three soups I had. Recommend having a special kalgooksu with more clams and charge more for it. Mandu had minimal meat, I did not taste it but looked very mass produced.
