I absolutely love this place. The food and atmosphere are great and I always enjoy myself when I drop in. It's a true Texas experience and you can't go wrong with the fried catfish either.
My wife and I have been going to Dale's every 2-3 months for the past couple of years. It's a real treat for us to get away and enjoy the small town atmosphere. Great food and prompt service from an always friendly staff. Gives us that small hometown feeling we grew up with and is truly a breath of fresh air from all the big city eateries. (and I highly recommend the peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert!)
This is an absolutely fantastic place for a great home cooked meal. Plenty of room to eat by yourself all the way up to the entire extended family - they are ready for you! Food was truly delicious and brought back some fond memories of eating with family. The service was outstanding and we were quickly made to feel like regulars (which we will become).
Food was good as well as the service. The chicken fried steak was fried perfectly and my server, Esmeralda, was friendly and periodically checking back to see if I needed anything. Thanks for the pleasurable dining experience.
Excellent cheeseburgers with great German twists on old favorites. Or old German receipies with classics like Chicken Fried steak sandwiches. So all of the food is fantastic. When I say save room for dessert, I'm not joking. Force yourself to put some of the burger or homemade onion rings down early. Push away and take two breathes and a gasp as homemade bread pudding with ice cream. German apple cake., what? Yup.
We stopped in on Memorial Day after looking for another place down the street to find they were closed. Thankful that they were! This place was delicious, our server Alyssia did a great job. The food came out in a reasonable time frame for our large group, sodas are in cans and served with a glass of ice. I don't normally eat slaw of any kind. However they have a smoked slaw there that was delicious. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well as the kids. No complaints from any of the kids. Pricing g was reasonable as well. Will definitely need to stop back by and try more of it. Don't mind the photos we were hungry and didn't think to take photos till we started chowing down on it. One side note, waitresses and waiters don't forget to clear the table of plates that are empty. Empty appetizer plates along with dinner plates make it very crowded for the guests.
Best burgers in Texas!! And the greatest atmosphere and service in the Austin area. I waited tables at this place back in 2007, Dale is an amazing human being. Music events in the biergartnen feel like a family gathering every time. I absolutely love and recommend this place to anyone!
Best hamburger anywhere! ANYWHERE! This is a friendly restaurant in Walburg, Texas and the service is great too! On spring/summer/fall, Dale has local country bands playing on their outdoor stage for guest to enjoy while sitting outside and enjoying their food. This place is a throwback to the good old days! 👍
First time eating there and I am impressed! I had the original burger with onion rings and an iced tea, my boyfriend had the Baja Burger with fried okra and a lemonade. Everything was delicious! Waitress was friendly. Small town country place. Felt very cozy and welcoming. Can't wait to go back and try more from the menu!
Great place out in the country to get a burger, bbq or drink a beer. Haven't ever been here to hear music but I'm sure it's a fun time based on the size and layout of the outdoor garden area. They have weekday specials in addition to regular menu items. Lots of seating indoors and out for small or large parties.
I was referred here by a family food critic to get "the best hamburger of my life", so detoured to check it out. Possibly so! Classic burger spot, great service. I had the 4 Alarm Walburger with onion rings. Both were outstanding. I can't say I have had a better burger but will return to double check.
Oh man! This place has some awesome food. They give very generous portions. I had the smoked sausage, smoked sauerkraut & collard greens. My husband had the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and gravy & pinto beans. They have a taco stand, a beer garden & the have live music in the evening hours. We will definitely be back here.
One of the best places we've eaten since we moved here. We were told about this place by some neighbors and we drove out to try it. Definitely worth the drive! I had the stuffed schnitzel and my husband had the schnitzel. Comes with 2 sides and a roll. Very good. Our waiter was a great young man, who answered our questions honestly! Would definitely recommend! They say the burgers and blackened catfish are really good, too. Just a reason to drive out again! Oh, and the prices were really good, too!
Update 12/15/21: The fried mushrooms are worth the drive no matter where you live! It's a must order item!!! Love the down home diner feel, super nice staff...not a fancy place, but a place you can enjoy good food for sure. I've heard the burgers here are great, but we always order veggies, schnitzel or shrimp....the shrimp is plump and perfectly fried in a light batter and taste like they came off the boat that day. Love it. You can't go wrong! Be aware, the potato salad is great, but it is made with dill pickles... It is not sweet at all..so it is a super sour potato salad...not for the sweet lovers. Collard greens are very mild...love it. Red cabbage is the perfect sweet and sour combo. I wish they had cornbread!!!! Desserts are good...all of them...all of the time.
It gave the appearance of dusty and dirty based on the stuff hanging on the ceiling and walls. Service was ok. Kind of slow, lots of staff but I no one helped each other. Had to wait for our own server to take our order. Food was ok. Had the fried catfish. They claim to have great burgers but I didnt try them.
We haven't been in years and the lady wanted some catfish. We arrived with plenty of seating available, but that filled up. There are large tables and large parties accordingly. Outside seating is available also. I hoped the TV was on to play some college football but it wasn't. I ordered a side salad and it was tiny and mostly lettuce. I had the fried shrimp and a bag potatoes. The shrimp were good but firm. The potato was perfect. It took asking three servers to get tartar sauce. The lady had fried catfish, fried okra and potato salad. She liked them all. We shared the shrimp and catfish. The catfish has a breading of flower and cornmeal and the fish was cooked stiff. I am used to Louisiana catfish that is cornmeal and the fish still has movement. Maybe the fish was previously frozen. Our bill was $41. I gave the sever $100. She brought back $9 and walked away. I almost just put it in the wallet. I had to go find her by the kitchen to remind her I gave are $100. She handed me new change and as I walked back to the table, it was $41. Um, she was gone. I had to find her again to tell her the change is $59. She brought the correct amount, and I have her $10 tip. Sheesh. Not a great experience.
Our kayaking group stopped here for lunch on a Tuesday. The restaurant is in a quiet street in a neighborhood. The place is massive with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area is big and has a stage and several seating areas. Apparently they have live music regularly in the evenings which will be worth a return visit…Lunch was slow but the service was great for a large group. Everyone enjoyed their food: the fried food plates were huge. Aside from the usual burgers and such, they were offering their famous smoked sauerkraut which I personally didn’t like. I did like their coleslaw. You don’t leave this restaurant hungry as the portions are very generous. It’s a long way to go from Georgetown but it’s quite convenient when you’re around the area.
We have to reevaluate going there. They have specials during the week, and one is a chicken dinner! In the past, it has been quite good but over the past few months we have gone and invited friends to join us. To our surprise, they have been sold out probably 80% even as early as 5 p.m. Plus the last time went, they only had dark meat and as shown in pictures, it was mostly breading. SO, we'll be a while before going back since they don't have enough food week after week! Not going to waste the fuel just to get aggravated when we can go to Long Horn for the same amount, better food, and excellent service!! Used to be a good place for a quick meal. On the high side price wise. Hope they work out their problems!!
