Avis sur Simmer Down Cafe Georgetown
We’ve been dining at Simmer Down since they opened in Georgetown. Prior to Gordon Ramsay’s visit we had hit-or-miss experiences. Our family decided to give them another try after watching Kitchen Nightmares, and we were impressed with the quality of the food and the atmosphere. My sirloin steak was delicious and cooked perfectly, the baked potato and green beans were tea good too (thanks Squirrel!). Thanks Chris for the selfie. You’re a celebrity in Georgetown now!
Simmer Down absolutely blew us away! The chicken and waffles were incredible — perfectly crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The chicken fried steak was also amazing, tender on the inside with the perfect crunch on the outside. We were lucky to have Miss Renee as our waitress, and she was the sweetest! Attentive, kind, and made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is clean, stylish, and such a comfortable place to enjoy a great meal. Highly recommend stopping by — we’ll definitely be coming back!
My family had a very pleasant time here. Food was good, the atmosphere was warm and the staff were friendly! Highly recommend if you’re in the area! Their fried chicken and waffles are so good. Good home cooked food where the locals seem to hang out. Will be back!
Chef Ramsey spent a week here at this restaurant a month or two ago. The staff told us the redesign was achieved overnight once they started it. The restaurant is beautiful. They were packed this morning, so service was a little slower than normal probably, but still very good. And the food was excellent. We will definitely be back.
We went in at 3pm on a Friday. Had the Old Timer (chopped steak). It was delicious. The mac n cheese and mashed potatoes were very tasty. We weren't a fan of the green beans, but it was just a personal preference. Service was good and attentive. Atmosphere was quaint and there weren't a lot of people. Bathroom could have been cleaner though. Overall, a recommend.
I was told to try Simmer Down Cafe, as we are new to Sun City area. The moment I walked in, I knew this place is going to be good👍 It's very home style, wait staff was super friendly, I felt very welcome, almost like sitting in the middle of a dinning hall of a small town, where everyone knows everybody. Buffet style Sunday brunch. Food was Delicious, I have to come back again for dinner one of these nights.
Enjoyable experience. Great food. Friendly service. I ordered the Strawberry Spinach Salad without realizing it had bacon. I didn't want to be a bother since it was my oversight so I picked the bacon off. Our server saw this and just brought out a new salad. He was also on point with the drink refills and checking out Gluten Friendly menu choices for me. Everyone there is super helpful. The place was pretty busy and still ran smoothly. Will definitely visit again!
First time here. We attended a private party here. Beautiful Christmas tree! Love the ambient feel, very friendly and inviting. Our waitress was just the sweetest. The chicken and dumplings were very good. I would've liked a few more dumplings but I'm a dumplings fan and the more the better. Several of our party ordered it and were pleased as well, also looking for more dumplings (we were all dumpling fans-haha). The meatloaf was very good. Nice size piece cut into thirds. Juicy and tender. Creamed corn was nice and sweet. Never saw onions on loaded mashed potatoes before, not a fan. Old style green beans-yum. Chicken fried steak was a nice size and crispy but a little too salty. Probably wont order that again. Side salads are huge! Kudos on that!! Liver and onions was also ordered but i havent heard the feedback on that yet. The pork chops were a huge hit. Tender but juicy. Definitely will come back to try breakfast.
Good experience overall. First time to have dinner. My chicken fried steak was good but due to some stringyness of the steak it could have been better. The crust was excellent. Green beans are awesome. My wife had the fried pork chops which were excellent! Okra was fried just right. Love the atmosphere. Very Texas!! We'll be back.
We stopped at Simmer Down Café in Georgetown on a Tuesday for lunch. Thank goodness for Google maps, because I would have totally missed this place. This is not in a traditional strip mall and parking can be a challenge. To get a parking spot, we had to go several buildings away and we were worried that we parked someplace we shouldn’t. If you go during a busy time, be prepared for a search to find a spot to park! I saw some criticism in other reviews about slow service, and we experienced the same thing. It was during the busy lunch hour, but, wow, the service was very slow. Our server eventually stopped at our table and apologized for the slowness. This is clearly a staffing issue. The servers were hustling to serve customers and also bus the tables after people left and to seat new customers. If you can’t get a timely lunch meal out, then you need more cooks. From talking with our server, the management knows all this and is working to hire more people. I hope they get it fixed soon, because despite the parking headache and the very slow service, the food was great. We got the Chicken Fried Steak and the Rueben sandwich. My wife got mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese with her CFS. She originally wanted creamed corn, but it wasn’t available. You can clearly tell that the CFS and mashed potatoes are made from scratch in house. It was a thick piece of meat with the perfect level of breading. We both liked the mashed potatoes and white gravy. The mac & cheese was in a white cheese sauce, and I liked it more than my wife. The Rueben was also very good. I would have liked more meat on the sandwich (especially for an $18 sandwich), but it was well put together and tasted great. I got the fries with my Rueben and my wife and I finished them off fairly quickly! I recommend that you go to Simmer Down Café and give them a try. Be ready to deal with the valid negative criticisms and just go try it for yourself because the food is worth it. They won’t fix the parking problems, but I have high hopes that they will get the staffing fixed. Oh, one last criticism. The system that they use for paying your bill at the table is terrible. You can’t really review your bill before you are handed a small device with even smaller buttons to put in the tip and pay with your credit card. My wife pushed the second tip option, which turned out to be 25%. That’s fine, but she was just guessing when she picked. Come on, this can be made so much easier! Get a new better system! Also, a pet peeve, they add a 3% fee for using a credit card. We didn’t know this until we asked for a printout of our paid bill. Credit card fees are a cost of doing business and should be absorbed in the prices. I’m sure there will be people that disagree, but it’s just my opinion.
A great place for a Sunday brunch buffet near Georgetown, Texas. Southern comfort food. Nice cold mimosas, with just a splash of OJ (like it should be). Nice wait staff. Great prices. Only $80 for a brunch buffet for three people, with four mimosas. Ask the waiter for some biscuits and gravy, they are amazing (also included with the buffet)!
The food was very good and then this little short black hair appeared. I was done at this point. So sad because the food was so good until then. The person that seated us gave no explanation that it was only a buffet. We would have been clueless had we not asked questions. And then we overheard the other waiters and waitresses that there's more food in the back that you have to order through them. So we were jipped not being able to experience the full buffet.
Decided to try this place for breakfast after learning about it online. I was expecting a Cajun twist, "Simma don na" IYKYK. Decor is nice, the server was very friendly and accommodating but the food took longer to arrive than it should have. Unfortunately, the food was bland and uninspiring. Pancakes were decent, biscuit/gravy were as expected, but everything else was bland. I had two main issues as to why I won't be returning. One was charging me a credit card fee. This is a cost of doing business plain and simple, especially now that we are a cashless society. There isn't an electricity fee, or a water fee, that would be ridiculous so why add some other random overhead charge. Second, the bland breakfast for two with tip and fees was $54. That is just way too much for what we got.
Not great. It took 40 minutes to get our food and there were only four tables seated. The waiter guy couldn't remember straws, extra ketchup and said they have no pickles available. The medium burger came as dry and over cooked as possible. The fries were okay. The Rueben sandwiches had very little meat. Meh Probably won't return
Ordered the fried mushrooms, which were mushy, side salad didn't taste very fresh. So decided not to eat an entree. Waitress was nice, but vibe was wierd. Won't be going back
Friendly service but not quite the brunch spot we were hoping for We stopped in for Sunday brunch hoping to find a new go-to spot, but unfortunately it missed the mark for us. The staff was very friendly, and our waitress in particular was great — you could tell she was doing her best despite the place feeling pretty understaffed. The food selection leaned more toward basic home-style lunch items, with very limited breakfast options. There was no menu ordering available (we were told they only had one cook), so everything was buffet-style. The ingredients themselves seemed decent, but overall it just didn’t come together in a memorable way. The omelette station was okay, though the cook seemed a bit disengaged at first — I actually wasn’t sure he worked there when I first approached because he was on his phone. The migas weren’t great, and most dishes were just one step above what you'd get at a standard hotel breakfast like a Hampton Inn — fine, but not something that would bring us back. All in all, it wasn’t terrible, and I appreciate the friendly service, but it’s probably not a place we’d revisit for brunch. Glad we tried it, but the search for our regular brunch spot continues!
Absolutely the worst service we have ever received. They charge you higher prices than are stated on the menu, and lie and say it’s on the menu. When you ask to see it, the waitress rolls her eyes and went and grabbed a menu, and when we asked her to show us where it was on the menu she brought, she said oh, it’s not actually on there. And then when I gave her $40 to pay for my $22ish meal she gave me $8 in change, shorting me $10. When we asked to speak to the manager to finally correct the issue we were told that the manager was busy and would be out whenever they could. There were only 2 other tables with customers in the whole place, and two servers, and the service was still extremely slow, and most times our server was nowhere to be found for drink refills, napkins, etc. It’s sad because the food we received was actually pretty good.
This is our first and last time here, I am confused on how they function. We ordered 2 appetizers; fried mushrooms and fried ricotta bites. We had to return the mushrooms because they were not fully cooked. They were just returned to our table still uncooked, they took the batch that we were given, that we touched and the waiter touched and put it back in the fryer and reserved them STILL under cooked. How?! I'm so confused. Dinner was CFS for both of us, with mac & cheese (not good either). After arriving with hope of this being a great new place for date nights, we left disappointed and let down. 🙈
