Avis sur Mel's Diner Giddings
Very nice staff, professional, and high quality food. Quick to take my order too.
Great midway point to meet up for lunch if you live near Austin but your kid goes to A&M. Tesla charger near by, and not far from the Round Top flea market if you time everything right. Delicious, affordable diner food, great selection of doughnuts, perfectly cooked eggs every time I've visited.
Local joint with a selection of very reasonably priced donuts and breakfast items. Drive thru was bustling at 7a. Their breakfast taco ain't tex mex, but it sure is hearty. If you're looking for a quick stop on the road, not a bad choice!
A hidden gem between 7 miles south of Giddings, TX off HWY 77. They have RV sites for daily or monthly use and Cabins for monthly rentals. Tent camping also available. The Ross family are kind hearted folks that run a beautiful operation. Stop by and see the sights!
I had a great Western Omelette and delicious hash browns. I requested my omelette be made with egg whites which made the zippy flavours of ham, cheese and jalapeños even better! Husband had a huge breakfast taco, and he ate it all. In addition to serving a delicious breakfast the restaurant had a friendly hometown diner atmosphere.
Mel's was our choice to stop off for breakfast in Giddings and it was awesome. The food was great. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs and we got some fresh donuts for the road. Definitely worth a stop for the donuts and kolaches alone.
Found this place as we were driving through. Really liked it -- lot of choices, plus donuts and kolaches. And a drive-through as well. Fast service, and folks always coming by to refill coffee. Great comfort food! Will be our go to stop every time we pass through.
We always stop by here on our way home to Corpus Christi, we have a lake house in Somerville. The food is always great, the waitresses always friendly, and the place is kept real clean.
Wow, I am so happy that I found this place! The breakfast was delicious and came out very quickly. The coffee was delicious, also. The place was not much to look at, but who cares. The locals were dining there, that's how you know you're at the right place! For people that aren't locals: When you enter, seat yourself and pay and the front register. We sadly did not try their donuts, but they looked delicious!
I stopped and purchased 2 breakfast tacos for breakfast, I couldn't eat them both because of there size being so large. I actually had the 2nd one for lunch later in the day. The taste was out of the world and can't wait to stop by for the next time.
Oh my goodness! This place really has great food for breakfast! I had eggs over easy, sausage, hash browns and a pancake. I usually don’t finish the plate, (too much food) but the pancake was so good, I ended up eating almost all of it! So good!!
After driving back to the Hill Country for a family wedding after moving to Florida, we were craving some kolaches and glazed doughnuts. We stopped by on a whim. This place delivered everything that we were looking for.
We gave it five stars as it met the basic "good service, good food and felt safe". We stopped there for breakfast and was very pleased with the food offered and prompt service. There were not many people in at 7:15 am that day (a Saturday), but they began arriving around 7:45. About the time we left. They also have a very good varity of pastries. It's not very noticable but is next to Brookshire Brothers store. Covid policies are followed very well.
Don't judge a book by its cover!!! Didn't know what to expect!! Ordered eggs, sausage, hash browns and 1 pancake. Was waiting to be disappointed. WRONG!!! Food was exceptional ! Very fast service! Friendly staff. Even Covid precautions taken care of. Wore my mask. I'll be back next time I'm going through Giddings.
Very good hometown cafe, great food, great service!
Had a lunch including a patty melt, fries and chicken soup to start. Was good for the price, about 10 bucks with tea. This is a no frills good place to sit down, get served and eat. It’s on a Main Street. Easy to get in and out. Mask wearing is required and there is plastic sheeting between many of the tables.

We wanted a nice sit down breakfast after an overnight stay in Giddings. We got seated at a downtown restaurant, then quickly realized that nothing sounded enticing. We left without fanfare, and went to Donuts and Breakfast. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, and we got donuts!
I had the Western Omelet and friend had pancakes and bacon. Both were delicious!! Waitress was friendly very attentive.
Beautiful hometown diner feel. The vibe was great. The food was great. The people are great. Get there before 2, they close early. If we all start eating there, maybe they'll need to be open longer!
Breakfast here was DELICIOUS! We dined in and we’re so impressed by the food. The restaurant is no frills, just a cute small-town diner. But make no mistake—the food is full of flavor!! Meat & cheese omelet, a fluffy pancake, and biscuits & gravy. We loved every bite. The bacon ham and sausage were all fresh! We’re only in town for 2 days and will be back tomorrow to eat again.

Great place to eat. Clean, efficient, no frills just good food. I only got one donut. It was a big as the plate!
Very tasty potato, egg, and cheese breakfast taco. Tortilla tasted homemade. Great price!
Really good for cheap food! The pancakes were light, almost seemed like they may have used some donut batter in them.... They were different but still good! Eggs were a bit bland, but I like that so I could season to my liking. Ham and hash browns were good too. Donut holes were tasty! No complaints from me.
Stopped here with a Scout Troop on the way back from camp. We had a large group with 14 people. They were pretty nice and accommodating. Everyone liked what they ordered. The portions are large. I ordered the biscuit & gravy with 1 egg bacon and cheese. I added a side of hash browns. The biscuit comes with the gravy, eggs and cheese piled on top. The biscuit was really good. The gravy was creamy. We also ordered a cinnamon roll. It tasted good, just wish it was warm. The food came quick for such a large group too. This place is a pretty safe bet for breakfast while traveling.
Nice little place, love the name. Good assortment of donuts, delish. Service was great, very friendly and attentive. Food came out promptly and was good.
Found this place on our way home from visiting Fredericksburg and Austin. Definitely a great place to stop at and have a quick bite to eat. There wasn’t a wait and the staff is super friendly. Definitely a local stop but a must. Food was also up to par.
I was a little upset bc I had ordered through the drive thru 2 LG regular kolaches, a chocolate milk and a bag of donut holes. I asked the lady not to worry about warming up the kolaches, I paid she gave me the donut holes, and then went to get my kolaches.. and then I saw her put them in the microwave, which was fine bc I was going to change my mind anyway. She gave me my kolaches and then I asked for my chocolate milk... (which she forgot about). As I drove my nephew to school I looked in my kolache bag. Come to find a small and LG (even though I paid for 2 LG)... I love going to Fresh Donuts bc they are family owned with Donuts and Breakfast but I probably will just stick with Fresh Donuts if I want my kolaches

Omelet was good, buscuit was soft and grits too salty. Also coffee seems weak. Prices were very reasonable and service was good. Fairly busy and going to try something different next time.
Huge portions, pancake could have been better, it crumbled, not dense enough. Bacon was great, chopped steak was really flavorful, hash browns lacked flavor, coffee was ......well brown water. Nice drink selection , many choices. Very small, if no tables are available nowhere to wait. Very clean, fast service, the wait staff is on it! I never had to ask for a refill. Great service!!!!

The 🍩 they have are great. The food is ok but I've had better. For a small spot in a small town it's good. With they would do something about the smell. Not to pleasant. But other than that it was good.
Glazed donut was okay but the chocolate glazed donut taste very dry and old. Service was nice but won’t be coming back here
Donuts are good, service is basic but friendly. Food was okay. I had a breakfast taco but didn’t knock my socks off. Decent place and convenient.
The breakfast was good and reasonably priced. The wait staff were fast! That being said the place isn't as clean as it could be. There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and the floors weren't clean. It made me question what the kitchen might look like.
Food was ok. The coffee was the worst I have ever tasted!!! Our waitress was very nice and attentive.
The kolaches were cold, and more breading and air than meat and cheese. The donuts were hard, like they were from the day before. First time trying this place, as I was driving through Giddings early one morning. Might try them again to see if maybe I went on an off day.
If you are going through Giddings at breakfast time, a stop at Donuts and Breakfast is an okay place. I was disappointed when I ordered scrambled eggs dry or hard and they were still runny in spots. The waitress was okay, but a smile can make a world of difference. The cinnamon roll was good my husband said, but not great. They have normal breakfast choices and a variety of donuts and pastries. It is just a small town cafe, but if you need breakfast, it is an okay place to stop.

I ordered the 8 oz breakfast steak, 2 eggs overeasy, hash browns and a biscuit. The stake came out cooked to cardboard consistency, and was seasoned with seafood seasoning (which would go excellent on grilled shrimp or fish). The eggs were cooked hard and the biscuits were tough around the edges. Other plates at our table were pancakes with bacon which were good, and chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs which were good. I believe the waitress was just there for a paycheck, there were several unbussed tables and she didn't really seem to care much about what the customers needed. We probably won't be going back anytime soon. $40 was too much for the food we were served...... but they do have a clean bathroom.....As I spent some time in there before I could leave the establishment.
Very good food , the waitress could have been friendlier , the owners were also very friendly. Sadly we had the breakfast today. OMG. Eggs tasted funny , hash browns were cold.
It was just ok. I just felt like everything was dirty. Especially when I got to the bottom of my mug of coffee and my mug had a dirty smell. I was going to get another cup of coffee but after that smell I said no way. They weren’t the friendliest either. The food tasted ok, definitely not anything to write home about. I probably won’t go back.
Service is a zero. I was the only one there for most of my breakfast, 3 wait staff near me almost the whole time, NOT ONE of them checked to see how everything was or if I needed anything I, was totally ignored. The food was ok at best. I'm sad to write a bad review and never going back.
Hashbrowns and bacon were so hard I couldn't chew it.. Hashbrowns tasted freezer burnt. Waitress even admitted the bacon wasn't made fresh. Gravy was ice cold. And service was slow as hell. Not worth the time or money.
Don't eat here! They were friendly to a point then bam, not! I ordered scrambled eggs, grits, toast and bacon. The eggs were loaded with shells, and bacon had some sort of something attached to it. I ate 2 pieces of toast, 1 piece of bacon and maybe a 1/4 of grits with eggs in it till I found all this in my food. And to add salt, he wouldn't comp my meal!!! Oh yea, service not good either!!
The waiter was so rude(Asian looking) didn’t even say good morning. We asked for water and she threw the straws at our table. I asked for coffee brings it doesn’t even ask if we need cream or sugar, I had to ask the other waitress to bring it to me, wow just wow! Food itself was great no complaints on that.
Terrible breakfast. Burned eggs, cold hashbrowns, and the bacon tasted so bad neither of us could eat more than half a piece. Even the coffee was bad. We asked if the gravy was homemade and the waitress lied and said yes. Im not sure what kind of biscuit it was, but it was some kind of bread-like something. Don't have to worry about ever going back here.

Tried this for the first time after living in this town a year. WILL DEFINITELY NEVER BE BACK. The food was probably the worst breakfast I have ever had had. I had no idea you could burn bacon so badly that it resembled a dehydrated potato chip. The eggs we so over cook they were rubber (after I asked for them soft scrambled). They are trying to nickel and dime for everything including charges for coffee, and soda refills and Togo containers when if they would just focus on serving quality well prepared food it would not be an issue. The best thing about my meal was the bottled Diet Coke.
So I really dont see what everybody else does in this place! Its packed with regulars every morning! My experiences with the drive thru have been horrible! The other day I ordered a bacon egg cheese croissant, 1 lg jalapeño sausage kaloche and an orange juice. What i received was a croissant that was stale. A few black bacon crumbles with over cooked egg that was kinda green and the cheese wasn't melted at all because it was cold! The kaloche was a small instead of a large and the dough had been squeezed off! The orange juice was hi point and was warm! The whole bag went into the trash. No way will I ever go to this place again. Oh did I mention the waitresses were rude as well! No thank you ill pass by for now on!
The food is great, good flavor and prices are reasonable BUTTTT service was bad, she seemed like she didn’t want to be there and racist, as she was very friendly with the white couple next to us. Felt like we weren’t welcomed. That’s more important than good food, we will not be coming back. I hope they do something about it a smile and a thank you doesn’t kill anyone.
My friend used to invite me to breakfast here. Truck driver and his wife. He really liked eating here. He's dead now. His wife move away. When I'm missing Alan, I come here and have breakfast. Well, apparently my children found out about this restaurant through their babysitters, and they like it also. But lately, there's been a change in the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's the people. The customer service is terrible. Body language is bad, disposition is even worse. Just a low down hate filled atmosphere. I felt rushed. They acted like they couldn't be bothered with giving us decent service. I felt unwelcome and...I mean it was bad. Bad, bad. I will never step foot back into this breakfast spot again. P.S. Stop watching all this Fox news propaganda if you can't put everything in perspective enough to function & coexist with other people in your immediate community on a day to day basis. Y'all really eating up all this evil divide and conquer baloney being spewed by people getting paid to push these agendas that ain't earning working class men and women a solitary dime. Y'all out here doing the devil's work. Stop.
First of all the service was and has been the last 4 times I have been in Mel's was awful. They don't smile! I had a roast beef plate it was awful! Breakfast is the only thing that the cook knows how to cook! It shouldn't be that way. I don't think I will go back.
