100% recomendable.
Best sushi in Zacatecas 10/10 recommended. The place is super nice and the people are so amazing. They also have great music.
“Great Hospitality and Presentation, with Room for Culinary Refinement” The atmosphere, complemented by jazz and excellent service, made for a pleasant evening. The highlight was the counter experience: seeing live sawagani (river crabs) flown in from Japan that morning. Being served the same crabs immediately after was a great performance that showcased their commitment to freshness. The nigiri was also notably generous in size. However, the cooked dishes lacked the depth of traditional Japanese cuisine. The miso soup and Agedashi tofu both lacked a proper dashi (broth) base, leaning instead toward a heavy, soy-driven flavor common in Americanized versions. In Japan, sushi restaurants typically use fish bone broth to create a rich umami profile, a level of detail I missed here. While there are gaps compared to the standards in Japan, I was impressed by the staff’s effort and the restaurant's overall hospitality. I am giving five stars to support their dedication and look forward to their continued growth in San Diego.
Fresh, one of a kind, and outstanding service! I went here a couple weeks ago with to my father and we love it! Definitely on the pricey side but it’s worth it if you’re looking for quality and experiencing a bit of the culture! Professional establishment that deserves more praise!
A friend of mine with great taste recommended this restaurant, so I came into it with high expectations. It met and surpassed those expectations. Mario was my server and Reimon was my chef. We tried a variety of rolls and nigiri, and each and every single one was exquisite. My personal favorite was the chu-toro. Also probably best dragon roll I have ever had, anywhere. The salmon nigiri, the ikura, the octopus, truly everything was amazing. 10/10, will come back again next time in San Diego
The food was very good. On another level compared to DC and the Central East Coast. We often order common for US types of rolls when we are the first time in a restaurant just to see "how they do them here?" And... did I say already "on another level"? Well, but it was on another level!
Without a doubt, my meal at this restaurant was the absolute standout of my entire trip. The tuna... simply melted in my mouth. The texture was unbelievably smooth and the flavor was so fresh and clean. However, the yellowtail belly was on another level entirely. It was, without exaggeration, exceptional. The richness and delicate sweetness of the fish were perfectly balanced, creating a taste sensation I won't soon forget.
February 2025 We enjoyed our fabulous meal here especially the fresh and flavorful yellow tail Kama. We were grateful the attentive waitstaff offered the half portion of sashimi so we can try different selection. This restaurant is worth revisiting. My rating as 5 is very satisfied Taste 5/5 Temperature 5/5 Attentiveness 5/5 Speed of service 5/5 Cleanliness 5/5
Omakase sashimi, from chef Taka himself. This is truly the best meal I have eaten in my life, and it was a profound experience. Calling this a treat would not be doing it justice. Giving this restaurant 5 stars invalidates every other review I’ve written because this food has absolutely elevated what “5 stars” means for me.
My wife and I had a really amazing dinner here. We went for the chefs menu, Omakase, which was really amazing and probably the best Japanese meal I have had outside of Japan. This was a mix of dishes that also had a real Japan feel such as jellyfish and sea urchin. An absolutely wonderful evening. Not cheap but well worth it
Located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter (5th and Market) Taka is a small sushi spot with a full bar. This was my first time here because whenever I walk by, the place is packed. Yesterday a buddy and myself walked by and were able to get two seats at the bar. Service was great (was fun to just order straight from the chef) and friendly, the sushi rolls were on point and made quick, the house Saki was tasty and the seaweed salad was delicious (and had the nicest presentation I’ve seen for a seaweed salad). When in the Gaslamp, Taka is a must if craving some sushi. Call ahead to see if there’s any availability or reservations.
This is the BEST sushi bar that I have found in San Diego. It leans towards traditional Japanese sushi rather than crazy Americanized rolls. The price is reasonable for the quality, and the friendly service is outstanding. Most of the chefs have worked here for 10 and 20 years, which creates a very cozy atmosphere. I can't wait to go back!
Went here early on a Saturday afternoon for dinner and it was nice and empty. We were of course able to be seated right away and we chose to sit at the bar. The service was friendly and the sushi chef was very entertaining! The food was great and we ended up going for the chef's choice (omakase) and I paired it with some of their sake which was a great decision! It was a 2 hour experience for us all of which was totally worth it! I would definitely come back!
The quality of their sashimi is one of the freshest that I know. Presentation is also nice. There’s no doubt about their food. We were so pleased with this place the first time when we were there a few years ago, we made sure to come back here this time in San Diego. While the food quality remains excellent, the atmosphere was not the same. Although most of the sushi chefs were still Japanese, all waiters were different now. The decor and wait staff have lost the Japanese touch. Don’t get me wrong. The waiters were still doing a fine job, but just had different styles I suppose. Plus their prices seemed to have gone up as well. Price tag is too high even for excellent food quality like theirs.
Not a cheap sushi place for sure! Small place …. Love the bar seating directly where the prepare the food. I had very high expectations from this place (recommended by a friend) and it actually met the expectations as food quality, preparation, and taste. Why not 5 stars …. I have been in an even better one that it is still for me the #1. Bottom line … if you like shush and you can appreciate the taste of it and different qualities, tastes and experience…. This is a place to go.
Got the Omakase ($130+ per person). The appetizer consisted of ankimo (monk fish liver, jelly fish, firefly squid, uni/oyster/ikura). It were decent. Nigiri: 15-pieces which were all good quality and some premium cuts like toro and rarity like nodoguro. The San Diego uni melted in my mouth. I liked that they deep fried the shrimp head at the end to turn it into a little crispy snack. Small dessert at the end of the course: Japanese style baked cheese cake. Not too sweet, which I liked. The server was friendly and polite. Many Japanese staff including the chefs. A few irks regarding service: -No おしぼり (hot towel) -No pickled ginger to reset the palate -No hot tea at the end (you order separately) -No mention of our special occasion (despite us specifically mentioning it when reserving on Google Maps) Overall kind of middle/upper middle sushi restaurant. I wish they were more traditional.
No vuelvo
The experience, regrettably, fell short of its reputation. The cuisine was unremarkable, lacking the refinement one expects at this level, and the service was conspicuously sluggish—I waited a full fifteen minutes, and only after prompting, before receiving a menu. Both the à la carte offerings and the omakase failed to impress, delivering neither distinction nor memorability. Particularly telling was the absence of fresh wasabi, offered only as a nine-dollar add-on, a detail that speaks volumes about the establishment’s priorities. In the end, the fault may lie partly with my own optimism, having trusted the allure of a five-star Google rating that this dining experience simply did not justify.
