Had an enjoyable stay at Simonstone Hotel! I dont know about the reviews but i believe that the venue had a nice personal touch to it and I met with really friendly staffs who helped along the way. I personally felt that dinner was pretty good there too! Pls try the Lamb! And the dessert was good. Breakfast was hearty and it felt homey for us. Oh and another thing i liked were the animals on site. It was a good experience for us as we dont get such things from where im from! Thank you for the hospitality and it was lovely!
A hidden gem! We had a fabulous time here. We couldn’t fault it. The rooms were comfortable, the staff friendly, the location is stunning and the food very good. It’s quirky in a good way and we will return. Instead of looking for faults, maybe look outside and breathe in the gorgeous Dales fresh air, get some exercise, enjoy a drink on the terrace, the wonderful public rooms, delicious food (thanks Chef) and feel grateful !
A delight. Our room had the most beautiful view of the Dales, and was well fitted out even if the bath position to share the view was more romantic than practical. Staff are attentive, welcoming and efficient, and whilst some reviews led me to expect portion sizes towards the Nouvelle end of the spectrum, that was not our experience at all. In addition to the restaurant there is a spacious bar and drawing room. The building is old, and thus creaky, and rooms might have their foibles, but best to simply embrace this - frankly that view is without price.
Took a gamble by booking a stay at Simonstone Hall and wow, what can I say, from the second we stepped into the hotel we were greeted by beautiful views of the Yorkshire Dales, peacocks roaming and staff warmly expecting our arrival personally. The decor in the hotel is incredible and the whole stay felt like we were in pages of Country Living magazine, it was the sort of place where you can trek in in your muddy boots and order an expertly made cocktail (thanks Ashley) in equal measures. The bedrooms were warm and comfortable with cute little boutique touches and the breakfast / food delicious. A walk to the waterfall is a must see if you’re in the area. Thank you to Jake and his wonderful team for a great stay, we’ll definitely be back!
The perfect place to just escape. The hotel has real presence but inside is so relaxed and friendly. Despite in being a luxury stay it’s also somewhere you came back to with your muddy walking boots and warm up by the fire. There are so many lovely touches that make it really special. From booking to leaving it has the personal touch. A week before I was phoned to discuss what time we would like our meal and afternoon tea. On the day we arrived there was a fire in the lobby which was so welcoming. Unfortunately they just reopened from a bit of decorating and it wasn’t quite finished so the bar was closed and the lounge was a bit cold, the fire was lit but I’m guessing it hadn’t been lit for a few days so the fabric of the building hadn’t warmed up as it was definitely warmer the next day. We had our complimentary hot drink and were then shower to our room. The room was incredible … it was just absolutely stunning! Spacious with a free standing bath and beautiful views across the valley. There was tea, plenty of fresh coffee to make a cafeteria and fresh milk was available from the lobby which is something I like. Our meal that night was delicious and we had it in the newly decorated bar sat by a fire. Peyton was so lovely and helpful with recommendations and just made our evening really special. Breakfast was delicious and very generous and then the country side around is perfect for walking. Afternoon tea and the cheese board in the evening made for really relaxed day. Highly recommend this place as somewhere to relax and enjoy the countryside from.
Beautiful, laid back hotel. Genuinely dog friendly - the staff were very helpful with our puppy when he was a bit barky at meal times. Views are amazing and walking paths straight from the hotel out to Hawes and the Penine Way. Food is delicious. Would be improved by having a small area where you could run your dog off lead.
We were out on a walk and thought we'd call in for a drink. We were warmly welcomed despite us having a muddy wet dog and even muddier boots. There was no fuss where we could walk or sit and the dog was made to feel at home too. A great idea are the tying rings placed around the bar area, so you don't always have to hold the dog lead. Plenty of water bowls too. There was a lovely warm open fire, which is always a bonus in my view. A real treat was the Old Peculiar on tap at the bar. We live in an area which sell predominantly light fashionable beers, it was great to come across this tasty dark ale. We also had a scone each, delicious. We can't say anything about the rooms or the expense, but we can imagine a building that old and beautiful costs quite a lot to run. We thought the decor was fitting and nicely done, the hotel frontage was amazing and the staff were happy and friendly. I'm not sure if the large brown mountain dog was part of the staff, but it was a great welcome. Enjoyed our brief stop-off. Thanks
Another amazing stay at Simonstone. Food delicious, rooms beautiful, service great and love the new renovations
Stunning Country House Hotel situated in the most peaceful scenic location! Unspoilt panoramic views came with our rooms view, bleating of lambs in the distance and bird song added to the relaxing ambience. Thank you so much to your wonderful staff that made our stay so personal..look after them they are a treasure to you. Thank you Craig and Jan
Big room, big bed, big bath, great views, food was amazing, will definitely be back.
Never fails to deliver, food, atmosphere, service and relaxation, we cannot speak highly enough of. Jo on reception makes you feel at ease straight away and nothing is too much trouble for her. This place is outstanding. Mark Robinson
Stayed here last night for our offices Christmas party. Greeted by the gorgeous peacocks on the terrace and it continued to be fabulous, from the welcoming staff, the stunning rooms and the food! The festive decor was a perfect start to the Christmas season and the dinner and breakfast was extremely high quality. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I could have stayed in the cosy chair all day, looking out to the view of the terrace and the dales beyond, with a mug of tea from the well stocked hot drinks selection. Would love to return and will definitely recommend to anyone, thankyou Jake and your fab team!
Enjoyed a wonderful 3 day stay. The team were warm, friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable but the decor was somewhat dated. The bar and dining room were nice with creative and tasty dishes. Will definitely return.
This hotel has to be the most beautiful and luxurious place I have ever stayed at. I stayed for two nights and I wish I could have stayed longer! The rooms are lovely, the beds are so comfortable, the high quality decor and overall countryside warmth of the hotel is just perfect. We had dinner on the first night and I don’t think I’ve ever had a meal with that kind of 5 star quality before! Even the afternoon tea the following day was so delicious and laid out perfectly. The chefs are so skilled and you can tell they take pride in their work. Every single member of staff were so welcoming and were really tentative throughout our stay. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and I was just so grateful. Jake really does have an amazing team here in all departments. Every single one of them deserves appreciation. Thank you to everyone for making this the best experience. Holly & Chris
Just home from a fantastic two night stay at Simonstone Hall. We were on their ‘wintering package’ which we felt was great value. The welcome and service from all the staff we encountered was excellent and the food was all delicious and beautifully presented. The views from the hotel are truly stunning and the rooms are gorgeous. The only tiny drawback we found is that you can hear people in the rooms next to you (talking, radio/tv) but quite faintly and it didn’t really bother us as we just put some music on. We’d 100% stay again and would highly recommend Simonstone Hall to anyone looking for a relaxing escape.
Just come back from my 6th stay at Simonstone Hall hotel; a pre-Christmas break with some friends. Have got to say this was the best yet. The hotel itself is a wonderful property with wonderful rooms, decorated beautifully for the festive season. The food is outstanding and really made the stay, in addition to the attentiveness and kindness of all of the staff that we met. First class.
We only stopped for a beer and wine (it is our second visit) lovely hotel makes you want to book in and we will stay next year. (Being a petrol head like me) its the Hotel clarkson hit his producer in. Make it even more special
Amazing country boutique hotel with incredible views of the surrounding wensleydale landscape. Cosy, grew food and drinks - definitely will be back!
Just dropped in for a drink and snack whilst I waited for friends. I sat in a very cosy lounge which had all been refurbished since I last visited and looked great. There were plenty of people outside in the sun on the terrace. The service was friendly and efficient and the food and drink was great. Having been a few years ago where the service was slow and the whole place looking a little tired, it looks as though they’ve undergone a big revamp. Would return and recommend. EV chargers for two cars and a modest amount of parking.
What a wonderful place situated in the beautiful Dales. Not entirely wheelchair accessible, but the owner and staff bent over backward to put out ramps to help my wife get around. They were awesome! The tea time was made to meet all of our allergy needs, and it was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious too, so many options and so little time :). Our accessible room was large, and included a wet room for the bathroom. One thing to note, most of the hotels in the UK seem to not have room fridges, so make sure to ask to have any temperature sensitive medicines put in their refrigerator. The hotel itself looks out onto the Dales, and the grounds are covered with colorful plants and animals, with most of the animals coming out to greet you! There are lots of trails to hike, and pubs and restaurants are a close walk or drive.
Upon arrival we discovered the entry has been moved as has the parking lot. Not a problem at all!!! We were greeted by Dan (pronounced Don for those Texans out thar') Dan was kind enough to relocate my room for a 3rd time---I honestly do not know how he went from one side of the hotel to the other as quickly as he did without huffin' and puffin' (meaning, breaking a sweat). Our waitress the next morning was Sue--- who was very informative about places to make sure to visit. The other employees that we met in passing were also very kind and helpful. The room was fantastic, very comfortable and lovely heated floors in the bathroom. The views are stunning -could not be more pleased
Gorgeous last minute stay for my partners birthday. Stunning views very comfortable beds, clean & staff extremely welcoming and professional. Lovely food at the bar and in the restaurant. Couldn’t ask for more!
We discovered this extraordinary hotel in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales and had a really comfortable stay and excellent food. It’s warm - very efficient heating - and the rooms are unique and opulent. Lovely music. Superb dinner. The Roast Venison dish was one the very best I have ever had. So we will be back!!!
Love this hotel, great location and staff are always friendly. Have been staying for years and always enjoy it - although this time the peacock woke us at 5am 😅 Breakfast was plentiful and tasty.
Stayed with my family including dog this Christmas and had an absolutely fantastic experience. Exceeded our expectations in many ways. Very cosy property with well-outfitted rooms. Staff was amazing, made us feel really cared about. Great food and wide selection of wines. Surrounded by beautiful countryside with lots of great walking routes. Would also recommend either having a long hike or, like we did, take a short drive up the nearby hills. The views are unforgettable.
Enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Simonstone Hall for a friends 60th birthday. Perfect location & gorgeous snowy views. Staff were lovely & could not have been more helpful. Beautiful building & roaring fire. Loved the resident peacocks.
Simonstone Hall Hotel is a gem in the Yorkshire Dales, fantastic views, friendly staff. lovely comfortable rooms. The food is outstanding and the surroundings superb. We spent six nights and had such a lovely time, Jake is a fantastic host and all staff make you feel very welcome and part of the family. We met some lovely guests staying there as well Thank you for a truly relaxing stay we will be back
This was a surprise treat for my wife, and everything was absolutely superb. You are made to feel very welcome, the food is superb and the friendliness of the staff second to none. The weather was not great but sitting in the window seat admiring the views was still magical. We both had a superb time and will definitely be back! Tony & Debbie Jefferies
We had a fantastic stay at Simonstone in celebration of our wedding anniversary. The location and views from the hotel (and our room) were amazing. Our room was fantastic. The food was really lovely (only downside was that as a non-meat eater, I had to have the same fish choice 2 nights running - an additional vegetarian option on the menu would have been welcome). The staff were great and extremely helpful. Definitely recommended!
We had such a wonderful stay at Simonstone Hall. We can't wait to come back. We felt refreshed and well rested. The special touches in the rooms are perfect. All of the dining rooms and bar areas are so luxurious. My husband and i found them lovely to read in, have a drink and a chat within. The breakfast was amazing. So fresh and cooked to perfection. Thank you.
What an outstanding little gem. We looked for a last minute couples night away. What a beautiful place. So much history. I’ve stayed in much more expensive places that didn’t deserve their price tag but this place is well worth it. I can’t say a bad thing about it. Surrounding area and views are fabulous, service was great and staff very professional and friendly. Lovely warm, comfortable room with great shower. Sink was a little slow to fill and the plug doesn’t hold water but is that really a complaint? Food was astounding. I’ll definitely return to this gem.
One of the best hotel nights away I’ve ever had. Spacious and very comfortable room, outstanding views across the dales and a beautiful hotel and grounds. Sure, it’s not the cheapest but I knew that when we booked. I thought it was good value for money though. We had the three course dinner. Again, not cheap and not massive portions, but everything was of excellent quality so if you enjoy fine food, I thought this was also good value. We certainly weren’t still hungry afterwards so the portion sizes were fine. Room for a drink from the very well stocked bar.
First a confession: I have not actually visited this hotel, but based on the responses to TripAdvisor reviews by the owner/manager Jake Dinsdale I am definitely going to give it a whirl. His responses are hilarious much funnier than the material of many stand up comedians. Having been involved in hospitality retail for most of my working life I have every sympathy with Jake and what he has to deal with from unreasonable customers with unrealistic expectation and an inflated sense of entitlement. It is just that most people don't have the cojones of Jake and actually tell a customer that they are wrong when they are wrong. Some of the bleating from over entitled customers is really repellent. So, for an owner to actually point this out to them is so refreshing. Wonderful to see. I wish you every success Jake.
Amazing hotel! The room was fantastic with a gorgeous view over the dales. The food was delicious and the staff were all lovely. In the evening we had a lovely drink in the bar sat next to the open fire which was perfect after a long day of walking. We will definitely be returning and could not recommend this highly enough.
Had a couple of days here 2 or 3 weeks ago. Very relaxing. Had one of the Country View rooms and the view onto the ever changing Yorkshire dales is wonderful. Food was very good - breakfast and dinner. Staff were very friendly and everything was efficient. Very easy to relax or you're a step away from good walking. Lots of waterfalls nearby. All in all a lovely stay
Wife found the hotel a couple of days before booked as a quick get away. Well worth the visit. The Hotel and facilities are not the cheapest but by far not the most expensive. Excellent location near Hawes with fantastic views and facilities. It is a quirky (ish) establishment with brilliant rooms and is dog friendly. Obviouisly the pooches are not allowed in certain areas, which is understandable and acceptable. The staff team ran fantastically by Jake, (excellent host and great sense of humour). Special mentions to Mathew and Chloe Bar and food staff. Great couple and so interesting to hear of their travels. (good luck with future trips). And Schnider who served us with breakfast both mornings. So polite and professional, finally Jo (Reception and jack of all trades) lovely lady. If I have missed anyone out I apologise. The rooms immaculately clean and well kept. Will definately be back.
It’s a fine hotel but I found the dining experience poor which is why I give it 3 stars . The wine is brought to your table already opened and that was standard practice in the dining room. The wine I ordered was not the wine delivered but I decided not to make a fuss in front of everyone as it was already opened. I took it up quietly the next day with the bar staff and manager. They agreed the error and after investigation refunded a specific amount. It doesn’t matter whether you are a wine snob or what you are paying for your wine in any decent restaurant you would expect the wine to be opened at the table Yes it’s a smart hotel and the staff very friendly but maybe they are relying too much on their past reputation
Lovely location and great views from the outdoor seating and restaurant windows. Overall some nice historic rooms for dining and relaxing. Sunday lunch was good if a little pricey, and tight portion control. I do however take issue when a supposedly local ale is £7.50 a pint and £3.50 for a soda and lime. Then an automatic service charge of 10% which wasn't mentioned. Had considered returning until we saw the ridiculous drinks prices. I didn't complain about the service charge as restaurant and bar staff were all eager to please and very attentive. I hope they recieve the service charge directly. Pool room with free pool was a nice touch, but was very dim with no windows and in need of a refresh. Ultimately a countryside hotel with ideas of granduar and prices to match but fails to meet these lofty ambitions. Great service from the staff Great view but very rural location and ultimately probably not worth the trip due to very high prices.
Lovely setting. We popped in for tea but the girl who served us was extremely surly. We enquired about afternoon tea, to be told that it must be pre-booked. Not a problem, but I had to coax out of her the fact that they could still offer tea and cake, this information was not offered - she very much gave the impression that she didn't want to bother. We sat indoors, cakes were rather dry and we had to listen to the manager who was taking a loud business phone call in the lounge nearby. We were considering booking dinner but these first impressions rather put us off. A shame as it could be a lovely place. Update; as expected, an utterly charming reply. I must have been imagining the bad atmosphere and poor attitude, with a manager like this in charge! Silly me for not flouncing into the bar, sniffing out the cakes for myself and ignoring the staff. I'm not from the south btw, that is a very odd thing to say. Friendliness and politeness costs nothing, north and south, in any case. This hotel desperately needs a professional running the show, as this unpleasant individual will eventually sink this business.
Brilliant location, decent amount of parking spaces, gorgeous view. We were going to see the Hardraw force waterfall and thought of having a snack in the hotel's beautiful garden. We settled on 2 artisan pizzas. When it arrived, the dough was¾not cooked, although topping were well beyond. Asked the waitress to have a look, she immediately took them back and apologised. She came back offering a drink while we wait another 15 min. We declined the drink and had the chips while waiting. When it came again, the only thing edible was the toping, and that was not nearly enough. She did bring an extra portion of chips with 2 dips, that is what kept us going. All in all, at £12 a pop for an 8" atempt at pizza is not a good idea. Crust was too hard, topping too little. We made do with the view and the service. But, for eating, I will try elswhere when I'm in the area
I recently visited Hardraw Force and stopped by Simonstone restaurant for a meal and a drink. The grounds are beautiful and the scenery is just stunning. However, the food was disappointing and the service shocking. I ordered a pizza and was told even if I was eating it in which I was, that it can only be served to me in a box. Which I thought was odd. The pizza itself was a 2/10 dry, salty and no care whatsoever. If you are wanting a place to sit with nice views and a drink then yeah but the food is a no no
We tried three times in two days to make a reservation for an afternoon tea for 6 persons. We just did not succeed in making contact by telephone. So we went to another place where we had no problem making contact and were treated to an excellent high tea. As to Simonstone Hall: eventually we drove up there to have a drink and check out the place. Our suspicions were confirmed, the place oozed decay, the barman was not very welcoming and our drinks were expensive. We won’t be back again.
The grounds are beautiful. Food is average. Staff are lovely. With exception to the owner. As read in other reviews he is arrogant and argumentative. We call with a query to be spoken over. In the end we asked if we could finish our sentences and he said no. Such a shame. We’ve been several times and each time had issues with him. I think when there is several posts regarding your attitude you should reflect on this.
What a beautiful location! Unfortunately our stay was very disappointing. This place needs a good clean and some heavy duty maintenance. Room servicing was appalling. We stayed for 3 nights and can report that our shower or bathroom floor had not been cleaned the first 2 days. Dirty coffee cups and milk jug left there until we asked for them to be taken away. The third day we had to ask at 3.45 pm for a service but was told the incoming guests took priority. Therefore we requested towels etc as we needed a rest. To be fair this place is understaffed and the employees that were there tried their best to accomodate. Isabella & Jo were outstanding with their customer service. When asked for a low profile pillow for our parents, we were told very rudely by Sarah at reception it was too late for housekeeping and that they had never had such a request. When we questioned Sarah she turned in an huff and walked away condescendingly laughing at us. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from a hostess! I suggest the owners seriously take a good look at how this place is functioning. Guests paying £299 per night deserve better!
The review by Britta Ginsberg was absolutely accurate. A restaurant that does not answer telephone calls shows contempt for its guests. One of the first principles of the restaurant business is good communication and answering the telephone at 9.30 a.m. is definitely a must. Staff do not show very much enthousiasm for their job either. Getting very aggressive and insulting replies from the manager is also highly unusual and shows a very peculiar attitude towards the clients. We recommend Yorebridge House at Bainbridge instead, slightly more expensive maybe but with a totally different atmosphere, welcoming and friendly.
Awful service today and disappointing food . A ladies lunch was spoilt by the lack of staff and late service . Sandwich was obviously out for a while before coming to table as pre ordered but dry on top. No dressings offered or coleslaw just a few lettuce leaves from a bag and about 5 crisps / There were many of us and had been pre booked so this should’ve been accounted for. The drinks were shouted out like we were school children or at a macdonalds not like we were at a lovely hotel .There was no system for service and the coffees took so long one lady didn’t get hers til others were leaving . The waiter did apologise for that but maybe they should’ve served cafetières for a big group instead of individual ones from coffee machine. The table wasn’t ready on arrival and was very basic considering it was a Christmas lunch outing for about 40. It was expensive and not worth the money. Very disappointed. We won’t be returning for food.
My family and I attended Simonstone Hall for a meal a little while ago. Whilst initially excited, we were left bittery underwhelmed and deeply dissapointed. The food itself was palatable enough but the portion sizes were laughable for the prices being charged. This, however, was not our primary gripe. It appears the term "constructive criticism" is not within the vocabulary of Simonstone Hall's staff. Any comments or complaints were met with incredibly rude, condescending and/or dismissive replies. A simple review of their lower-star ratings on this platform reveal that we were very much not alone in these observations; their staff dismissing a customer's dissatisfied review of their food as "a crock of crap" and another, more recent, as a "family tantrum". One reviewer was referred to as a "scally" and told he wasn't "man enough" and to "grow up". This utter lack of professionalism and ability to take criticism is astonishing. Dining should be an enjoyable, calming and joyous occasion. It should not be overshadowed by a cloud of venemous individuals seething and spitting at anyone who dares speak ill of their establishment. (Hyperbolic but the point remains). So, in short, the food was underwhelming and the staff are incredibly rude.
