I've lived in the Hazleton Area most of my life and surprisingly I've never been here. I had no idea what I was missing. I got the stuffed mushrooms and Chicken Franchise. Everything was delivered hot and delicious and the portions were huge. The staff was super friendly and helpful with answering our questions. I will definitely be back.

Hidden gem 💎 alert! This place is such a wonderful addition to Hazleton. From the drinks to the meal, everything was very well executed. All the dishes were well seasoned and delicious. My mom raved about the meatball scamutz sandwich which uses bread made in-house. The mashed potatoes with my steak were some of the best I've ever had. Prices are more than fair. 10/10 would drive the hour trip to come again.

Food was AMAZING! Filets topped with crab were wonderful, and the mashed and baked potatoes were great as well. Drinks were delicious. And our waitress was so sweet!

My friend and I had a classy, relaxing dinner celebrating her birthday. Our waitress was a friendly, hard-working employee who checked on us regularly. Our food was a little slow to come out because of the weekend and probably a covid employee shortage; however, it was worth the wait. Overally, good atmosphere and tasty food for the $.

Impossible to find a good steak in Hazelton. Don't worry I did all the hard work for you it's here! Price and portions are fine for what they're providing. Pro tip get the soup over salad. Very nice and professional staff.

They give you a basket of bread to start. We shared the eggplant appetizer, which I will definitely get again. He had the watermelon salad and the steak with spinach, and I had a huge Cesar salad. For dessert, we shared the terrimisu. Everything was delicious. Our waitress was a sweetheart. It's definitely a great place for dinner!

Needed a table for 25 for a birthday celebration last minute.. the manager dave was able to make this happen in a short amount of time and made sure everything was perfect! The staff was awesome, food was good, and we had such a fun night! Can’t thank them enough!

Cold water Lobster week, so of course I ordered the Lobster risotto! Risotto was REALLY good, asparagus perfectly cooked, a little crisp. Hubby had the delmonico, tender and fresh! They were short-staffed, but everyone was pitching in to serve the customers. Highly recommend!

More than just Italian food. Fun selection of craft cocktails with a nice wine list. The beef dishes were delicious and a good sized portion. We saved room for celebratory desserts, and they were well worth it.

Chicken parmigiana was plentiful n good. Whiskey sour was oh so tasty. Stuffed mushrooms w crabmeat was the best I've had outside our home. First visit for supper. Loved the atmosphere. I would recommend keeping the kids w the sitter.

Every time I eat here it's just amazing. Great variety, incredible quality and wonderful service. I recommend the salmon..no matter how it is prepared. Consistently great.. like all the seafood here . Soups, salads and appetizers are also very well done. Nice drink selection as well.

We had a large party (10 with two younger children) and received great service. Apps were very good, but mild wings were PERFECT! Entrees served timely and all party members enjoyed! Also bread was fresh and served in many different slice sizes! Recommend to all.

This is an historic place with outstanding food. I have to go everytime I am in hazleton. We were seated immediately and served the most delicious bread I have ever tasted. I have always said the local water determines the bread and Hazleton has the best water of any city I have lived in therefore great bread. The Italian wedding soup was delish. What I always get is the cavatelli with sausage. It was great and I will have cravings for it until I can return. One one place near me in nc with cavadil and their sauce is awful and the pasta soft. The Ovalon sets the standard for cavatelli. I only regret that I wolfed down my food before getting a pic

First off, I have to say, we absolutely LOVE these decades old, family run restaurants like the Ovalon that are hidden charms throughout our region. Walking through these doors are like stepping back through time. This place has not missed a beat. The minute you enter, you are greeted like an old friend. The food is outstanding. The recipes are authentically homemade. The service is truly genuine… I cannot say enough. Last night, following our meal (which was outstanding), our server, Mary, brought us a complimentary dessert, to “make up for” not checking on us and our soups coming out late. Honestly…. There was NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING WRONG with our service. NOTHING!! Mary felt she fell short of her OWN personal standards for serving us and felt the need to do something for us!! WHAT??!!!! Thank you, Mary, and Thank you Ovalon. In the midst of the INSANITY of this day and age you are a true LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS. It is our privilege to continue to frequent The Ovalon and take that step back in time, be greeted as an old friend, treated as one of the family, and fed like Royalty. We highly recommend the chicken parmigiana, my husband loved it!

This was my first time dining at Ovalon, and it definitely won’t be my last. The food was excellent (especially the Fra Diavlo), the staff was welcoming and attentive, and the atmosphere was great. Chef Ang is an incredible talent—I’ll absolutely be back!

We haven't been here for a while with the higher prices, but the newer menus have lower priced options that I found interesting. Everything that we had was amazing, and service was great. They had a crab rangoon special, and this is the first time that I ever saw so much crab meat in it. Great experience!

We had a wonderful dining experience at the Ovalon. Our personable hostess Sheila let us write to our booth. Aubrey, our waitress, couldn’t have been more efficient and helpful. She was on top of everything and kept us informed all the while we were there. The atmosphere was lovely, we enjoyed the music, and our dinners were excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant and it’s wonderful staff!

My friend moved to Hazleton a few years ago and I finally came to visit him. The one place he kept saying we HAD TO GO TOO was the Ovalon. The food was great, the people super friendly and the atmosphere was old school vibes at its best. Was a great night. The best part was Carol. The bartender and resident host extraordinaire. From the moment I walked in she made me feel so welcome. Like I had been a regular for years. On top of that she made one of the best martinis I’ve ever had. Thanks so much ovalon for a memorable night

Wonderful food and wine, great service. It has been a favorite of the locals for many many years. The Steak Diane was superb. Also a nice small wine selection.

Stopped in Thursday the 13th! I haven’t been there in forever. Lots of new faces, the only person I recognized was Karen. Her Pear Martini’s were excellent. A young gentleman named Devin (I think) was our server and he was training someone. Service was excellent. Bruschetta appetizer was the best you could ask for. I had chicken Marsala for dinner. It’s one of my favorite dishes and I’ve tried it just about everywhere. It’s literally one of the best I’ve ever had! The sauce was absolutely perfect! It had a slight sweetness that hit just right! My only negative comment would be that the Caesar salads were average at best. They used to have some be of the best Caesar’s in hazleton, so much so that I would recommend friends to try one there. For the price of the Caesar I expected the same quality as they used to be. The price of the salad was outrageous! $12 for a small salad?? How is a house sale $4 and Caesar $12 when it has less ingredients? The entree prices are high enough that it should have been included. All in all I’d highly recommend Ovalon for dinner and drinks, but don’t waste your money on the extras like soups and salads because it’s sadly not worth it.

We had a wonderful dinner at Ovalon. We were out of the area and just came across this great place. I will definitely try to come back the next time I'm in town Good meal, Good service, and worth the price!!!

The food is fabulous. The atmosphere is pleasant. The service was impeccable. The restaurant was a bit unassuming from the outside, but was very nice inside. Everything was delicious, soup, salad, entree and dessert. None of it disappointed. The bread was homemade and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this establishment.

There is a slight odor (maybe just an old building?) but you get used to it quickly. The food is outstanding and the service was excellent. I thought the prices were fair according to quality and quantity.

You close way to early. Covid is over, right? We come in 8 - 8:30 Had a bad experience last week. You could have offered to re-warm my meal, but the kitchen was probably cleaned up. Off my bill, thank you. LOOKOUT HOUSE, open till 10 great food and never a problem even when going in there at 9:50 pm. They are happy to cook whatever your heart desires up until 10 PM

The food and service here is always good. I have been eating at this family's restaurants since the 1970's at the Close Quarters. Clams casino have been on the menu since that time. It is those types of old school dishes that keep people returning here. A few weeks back we came for dinner and found it was removed from the menu after all these years. The waitstaff confirmed that it still was very popular. This restaurant has been very successful since the 1940's. That taken into account, you have to be very astute about making changes especially those that can affect patronage. As we drive a considerable distance to dine here I will have reconsider how frequently we come to this establishment in the future. I hope that continued changes to the menu do not result in the loss of uniqueness and end up like 90% of the modern day restaurants who all serve the same dishes with no imagination. This review would have been 5 stars earlier this year before the menu changes.

This my first time to Ovalon, but I will return. I spent 20 years working in restaurants, including managing the FOH in an upscale restaurant. The evening began a bit concerning with not the perfect providing of menus and drink menus, but it did change. Our entreés were done perfectly (steak au poivre, a filet, and salmon). Sides and upscale sides were noted by Amber, our server, who was efficient, knowledgeable, and engaging. She offered ready and delightful insight into our menu and drink options. The fig bruleé flatbread was a real find, and my other guests noted “those were the best fries they ever tasted.” Amber offered excellent menu advice from appetizers to dessert, and she is a wonderful person to have showing how excellent service is achieved. This was a retirement/birthday dinner for me, and Ovalon provided a wonderful setting. Thank you.

Wait staff was very helpful. Lots of people checking in on our table. Great appetizers and excellent timing of soups and salads with entrees. My steak was a little over cooked but the crab meat was generous and the entire meal overall was flavorful and plentiful. Thanks everybody at Ovalon!!

Friendly staff and good food. Great calamari and homemade soup. French onion soup was ok, nothing special. Great house dressing! We had the parmigianas eggplant and chicken, eggplant was excellent; sauce ok. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

The food was outstanding--in our party of 3, everyone loved what they ordered. The house balsamic dressing is particularly outstanding. I'd go back just for the bread and salad! My steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well, served with plenty of au jus. I'd say their ribeye rivals every steakhouse in the area. The veggie medley was perfectly cooked and very fresh. The service left a bit to be desired. The bartender was friendly when we went in and seated us promptly at a table (there was no hostess, probably due to it being a rainy weeknight.) Our waitress... eh. She was very pleasant and polite, but just was not service minded at all. Drinks sat empty for 10-15 minutes at a clip, and she was so engrossed in her conversation with another waitress at the bar that we couldn't even get her attention to ask for refills. The chef had to pop out from the kitchen twice to call her back to take plates out and had a similarly difficult time getting her attention. At no point were there more than 5 tables in the entire restaurant--none larger than a 4 top--and there were 2 waitresses and a bartender working. Had it been a busy night, I'd be more forgiving... but at $100 for 3 people, I expected better service. No complaints at all about the food though. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious, and the kitchen was excellent with their timing. I've heard that service at the bar is better than at a table--and from what I could see while we were there, it is. The bar manager seems to keep drinks flowing and could be heard calling back to the kitchen (on a phone, there's no yelling here!) asking to rush orders for people who were eating at the bar. I'll update my review if the service has changed next time we go to The Ovalon. Hopefully this was just an off night.

Well disappointed, Tuna was chewy despite it being cooked rare, pasta sauce was Overwhelming and way too abundant. Reviews seems decent but I guess everyone’s palate are not as refined. Anyhow, not sure I’ll give them a chance again, the pic shows how much I left on my plate impossible to eat. Bread borderline undercooked.

Went there tonight and was disappointed. It wasn't what I remember it being after eating there about 4 years ago. For one, the prices are sky high for the quality and service that you get. I can tell that the chef is inexperienced and the waitresses are not properly trained (except the elderly lady). We sent one of our dishes back because the pork was so over cooked, my wife couldn't even cut it with a butter knife. Anyway, I could go on and on and write a few pages. But I really don't like to speak badly of a place, which is why I gave it a neutral rating (3 stars) instead of two. If you're looking for fine dining, go somewhere else. The prices reflect fine dining, but the quality and service reflect low-budget.

Overall we had a decent experience. Although the food took nearly an hour and a half to come out, and when it did, my steak wasn’t even close to how I asked for it to be. Service was OK, didn’t get checked on too often. Would try again on a less busy day.

$52 for crab augratin and no salad included! Asked waitress and said not included anymore and said it was just a big waste giving it. Lol. They gave a little broccoli that was overly salted, could not eat. Waitress said hope you enjoy the rest of your meal and did not offer to fix. Always enjoyed going there but definitely off our list.

This restaurant is a local legend. I've been coming here since I turned 21. I've celebrated, wedding and baby showers here as well as birthdays etc. it's a great place to sit in the bar area in a booth for informal get togethers or a more formal area in the dining room. The food is mainly Italian and it is one of the best restaurants in a 50 mile radius for it. The prices are a bit higher than the last time I was here ( +/- 15 years). I don't live in the area but it was my birthday and I treated myself to takeout. I got the surf and turf salad and although the price doubled the portion was a hefty size. My only dismay was you always get a bread basket when dining in so I was looking forward to the homemade bread with my salad. I got the end slice approx. 1/4 inch thick, hard and quite frankly should have been thrown out! Not served with $35 salad. The s/alad was very good however without that warm bread was a birthday bummer. By all means if you're looking for Authentic Italian cuisine be it formal or with a beer after work and a meatball sub you won't be disappointed. Parking has improved by being able to use the postal lot across the street. They have so many choices for meals that even vegetarians will not leave hungry.

The waitresses ability to return to our table for anything was slow. Never brought my mom’s coffee , had to ask for a take out container and then waited 10 minutes for her to return. We didn’t want to get dessert knowing it would take another 20 minutes for that. Service was just not there. Disappointed!

When we arrived, we were seated quickly in a nice booth by the bar. Received a basket of bread which was good but had to ask for olive oil for dipping. The salt was stuck in the shaker. Asked for another salt shaker which was brought to us promptly. We both ordered the pasta classic: Ravioli with 2 meatballs and red sauce. Both ordered salads which are no longer included with the meal. Asked for romaine lettuce instead of greens which was an up charge which was fine, but when the salads came out, I had to send mine back. It was soaked with water making it inedible. For $7.00 per salad, the greens should not be soaking wet. The waitress also brought me the wrong salad dressing and argued that that was what I ordered. My husband corrected her and said we ordered the same for our salads. Our dinner was not the best. The red sauce tasted like jarred sauce. In fact, I’ve had better jarred sauce than this. The meatballs were very bland and mine were not cooked through entirely. The raviolis were ok but must have been frozen. The cost of our meal was about $51.00 plus tip. My husband had 1 beer and I had water. We will not be returning.

I'm not sure where to begin. We tried to have dinner for Valentine's Day. I was prepared to spend hundreds of dollars for what I thought would be one of Hazelton's premier restaurants. It was not what I expected. We made reservations a month in advance. It took almost 5 minutes to even be acknowledged upon arrival. We were then seated and ignored again for almost 10 minutes. Once our waitress arrived she behaved as is this was a truck stop. The restaurant wasn't overly busy. It took another 15 minutes to get drinks. After that, we were told that the kitchen lost our appetizer order nearly 45 minutes later and it would be another 10-15 minutes before it would be ready. We couldn't even order additional rounds of drinks as our waitress would just constantly say she would be right back and then ignore us again for another 10 minutes. Worst Service Ever. The appetizers were OK, but not worth the expense for what little was on the plates. After an hour and a half without our waitress even taking our dinner order, we decided to leave. Terrible special occasion place if you're not Caucasian and only with other Caucasians.

Horrible. Was far better in 60s and 70s. The antipasta was not the freshest and the meats were cut up in tiny pieces. Charge more and give the customer something better! My fiance's onion soup was watery with few onions. The bread was fair. The service was amateuress-plates left on the table. This is not a good restaurant. The owner should travel to San Francisco and experience good places. Would never return. I did not complain-that is my fault.

Awful experience. Had reservations for 6. Called at 545 said running late. Paring made it worse. Sat in i suppose the main dining room at a corner table for 6. We were 1 of 3 tables. Our server was very green. No problem. However we waited for nearly 30 minutes to ask about drinks. Got drinks 20 minutes later. Bar is 15ft away. No bread. After another 20 minutes asked for apps. 30 minutes later 1 of 3 apps arrived. A pretzel. Was waiting on soup for another 15 minutes. We barely say our server. It was like we were invisible. Zero management or leadership. Decided to get check and had to leave. Too hungry too late. This was a Saturday night in a 2/3 empty place. Shameful absolutely shameful. Still tipped 25%out of pity for waitress. She had 0 support from coworkers of other staff.

January visited this restaurant. Waitress and person at the register both had my card. Immediately after (the next day) Credit Card with charges that someone bought T-mobil. I do not use T-mobil ... I only used Credit Card twice: Hazleton that day and Allentown once. (Everywhere else: Cash, Debit, Google Pay) ... Alerted owners of Ovalon via email: exact issue, card used twice in 2 different cities, and to also check for card skimmers (which could be placed by anyone, even a visitor. Not necessarily those who had the card) ... I was reimbursed by my bank. 6 months of my bank and T-mobil not telling me where purchase was made (in a town/city in person, online from an unidentifiable IP address, or even overseas) ... Countless calls and emails later? Finally on Friday had a senior rep from my Bank give confirmation it was Hazleton purchase in origin. "Any additional information, can be shared with police only, upon their request". So my next step is to ask for police report made, and request them to please go forward with this.

This used to be a consistently great place to eat. Food and service were always top notch. Now it’s completely changed and not in a good way. The food is horrible. No more dinner salads you just get a lump of vegetables with your pasta dinner. Portions have shrunk while the price has gone way up. Place was empty on a Friday night but still waited over an hour and a half for entrees. New owners will run this once great place into the ground. If it’s not broke don’t fix it!
