Heard great things about this bar and been wanting to check it out for a while. A business trip finally made it possible and it did not disappoint! It is a BAR: not a sports bar, not a dive bar, not a speakeasy, not a gastro pub, but a BAR. Great drinks and service, staring with a welcome from every bartender. There should be a separate drinks subcategory (not just food—very limited menu but solid)—5 stars for drinks, too. And 6 stars for Mabel!

Great drinks and great service. This bar offers some of the best cocktails in the city. All their bartenders are true professionals and even with it getting very busy do provide great service. The only downside about this place it is kind of small especially with how busy this place can get. You might have to stand to enjoy your drink but you will still have a great time.

Anvil is exactly what you want from a serious cocktail bar. Walk inside, and the room is dark and energetic, with just the right amount of light at the bar to see the drinks being made. The place was packed when I visited (10 pm-ish). This bar is more for groups to chill, either standing or sitting. It's loud with music and conversation, so be ready to lean in and talk close. But the real reason to come here is for the bartenders. They are fast, asking for my order as soon as I sat down, and make drinks with a swiftness that never looks rushed. What really stood out was the attention to detail, asking about specifics like "on the rocks" or "one large cube" and which brand of liqueur I preferred. This professionalism really shined when I saw a regular next to me get a drink that wasn't on the menu. I got curious and asked for the same thing. The bartender made it without hesitation, and it was perfect. I'm still trying to figure out the name, but from what I can remember that night, the drink has: - Gin - Cucumber juice - Lime juice - A reddish spice (no idea on the name) - Mint garnish (leaves and long stem) (Never had anything like it before. I'll come back here with the mix ratios once I find them). If I ever return to Houston in the night time, Anvil is first on my list. It's an essential stop for the great atmosphere, but you go here to see true professionals who have mastered the craft of the cocktail.

We have been here several times. Be sure to study the scan menu of drinks. Believe me, there is something for e eryone, even the old school recipes. The bartenders are knowledgeable, they can even suggest drinks or types of alcohol to suit your tastes and styles. Sazerac, Nigroni, Boulevardier, pisco sours, Ginn fizz etc or some great drinks to try as well as a slew of others. It's worth going a few times and experimenting with the plethora of availabilities. Great place and enjoy all our outings there...

As soon as we entered the bar, even though the bar was packed, one of the bartenders noticed us and gave us the menu! The bartender was taking orders, making drinks and serving them to customers. They were dancing and conversing with customers with a great cheerful attitude. Drinks were super creative and delicious. We had an amazing time at Anvil!

Anvil is hands down one of the best cocktail bars in Houston. The bartenders know their craft, and every drink feels like it was made with real intention. The vibe is chill, classy without being pretentious. Whether you’re into classic cocktails or want to try something new from their seasonal menu, they nail it every time. It’s the kind of place where you can sit, enjoy, and actually taste the quality. Definitely a go-to for a proper drink in the city.

As always it is a delight at Anvil. I am a former bartender and there’s a reason they are such a highly awarded Houston institution. Excellent drinks and service. Food is good not amazing but it’s a cocktail bar not a restaurant so that is to be expected. Food is fairly priced though.

Great drinks, friendly service, chill vibes. Loved it here. I didn’t have a clue on what cocktail to get, told the waitress my base drink, and she had me covered! Would definitely go back and kinda wish they had one closer to the east coast! Now for my standard comments. Location was mid sized, a few booths and tables. It was well kept and clean. Very comfortable seating indoors.

Disappointed by this place. The drinks were ok. Good selection of spirits. But the food was bad. We paid $20 for poor charcuterie. We got a comically small chunk of cheese costing $10. It came with some pickles which had gone bad. They were very slimy. When we pointed it out to the barman they didn’t apologise or bring a replacement. Felt very dismissive.
