Incredible molcajete!!! Couldn't find many reviews about the molcajete but decided to take a chance and order it. It was so so so good! Planning to bring more friends here SOON!! :) also: the carajillo was fantastic
First date night here and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the drinks were on point, and the vibe was perfect fun but still intimate enough to talk and enjoy the moment. Definitely a great spot for date night.
Friend and I went for the first time for our yearly Christmas meetup and we loved everything about it! We could t stop eating and the drinks are delicious! I will be returning!
The food was delicious and the ambiance was great! Prices are very reasonable for the quality and location. Our server Mario was incredibly attentive, helpful, and charismatic!
We stopped by for a late brunch on Sunday and luckily only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We had the pozole rojo, which was a bit spicy but delicious, and the flautas ahogadas that did not disappoint. The drinks were also very good! We had our freshly made churros to go. Our server Justin was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has beautiful, lively decor and is very clean. The music selection keeps the vibe going!
I rarely write a review, so after 1 year of coming here, I can say that... I love the food and drinks. It's truly authentic Mexican food, from all the regions of country, unbeatable in this city despite the plenty of options around. Enmoladas are a must! But if you don't like or tolerate spicy food just ask, there are options for everybody! I love the staff, everyone is welcoming, attentive and cheerful, which enriches the whole experience. I love the atmosphere is always on point and is great for going with family and friends. ...I love this place!
I have to say, this is one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve been to in Houston! Everything tasted so authentic. I had the watermelon margarita, and it was absolutely delicious — the dessert was just as amazing. Our server was super kind and attentive, and we were seated right away. The atmosphere and music were perfect — it truly felt like taking a quick trip to Mexico. I’ll definitely be coming back!
I went to Maderas Kitchen & Cantina for brunch at 11 a.m., and it was an experience worth talking about. The food was absolutely delicious...every plate came out looking like a piece of art, and the portions were generous enough to leave us satisfied without being over the top. The service was excellent from start to finish, attentive without feeling rushed, and the pricing was surprisingly moderate compared to many other Mexican restaurants in the area. Inside, the ambiance had this lively yet relaxed energy, fun, welcoming, and stylish in a way that makes you want to linger over another drink. If you’re looking for a brunch spot in Houston that blends flavor, presentation, and atmosphere, Maderas definitely delivers.
The shrimp tacos!!! The flautas and the lemonade were sooooo yummy 😋 The refried beans were seasoned well and I really liked the tableware. Maderas Kitchen has such a great vibe! There's plants and candles used as decor on the inside and the outdoor dining space is so cozy and covered with even more plants! Very cute spot!
Both times that I have been to MADERAS, One time for lunch and one time for brunch Everything that I have gotten was flavorful on point and didn't disappoint. I will start off by saying that if you are looking for authentic authentic. There's only a few places maybe only one or two places that you can enjoy in Houston. And I'll tell you about those later. With that being said every plate that I've had here doesn't disappoint and have that flavor that's a dish comes with traditionally whether you get enchiladas, flautas, huevos rancheros, You will taste Maderas version and let me tell you they got flavor and they got spice., As you can tell by the pictures very bright presentation as far as the plate and it matches with flavor. Nothing has let me down. The best thing that I've had here as far as a drink has been the tamarindo Margarita. And that dessert still has me thinking about this restaurant. That cuatro leches was something special and it's coming from a person that doesn't like sweets. I only do tres leches, and that's as far as I go with cakes and this one did not disappoint with the coconut shavings and the wetness of The cuatro leches which counts. Overall I will be coming back to try out the rest of the menu and I recommend you do the same.
One of my favorite restaurants in Houston now! And I'll explain why Maderas is a must in downtown. Because they have plenty of Mexican vegetarian and "meat eaters" options on their menu, a mix between traditional and modern Mexican food which is delicious, two times that I have eaten there I have found enough parking (which is weird in downtown), the atmosphere and the service are genuine and authentic. Our waiter was Mario and he was super friendly and detailed with my family. Excellent service 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We came for Sunday brunch and between the three of us, we shared the flautas ahogadas (enjoyed this), torta ahogada with carnitas (this was quite rich and not quite to my taste) and the carne asada tacos (good flavour) and the churros (good). The portion sizes are large and it was good value.
Stopped in for a double date dinner, highly recommend getting a reservation as the seating is pretty limited. We tried a few plates and some appetizers. The appetizer was very generous portion and 3 pieces. We tried the flautas, pozole rojo, shrimp tacos and carne guisada. Everything was tasty but he highlight was the pozole everyone liked it the best. The drink were all delicious as well also we sampled a few and the favorite was the tamarindo drink. Please watch out for the curb as you turn into the parking lot if your coming off of bagby.
Came here for a quick lunch before a meeting down in the meeting center. We were the first ones there that day and had the luck of the restaurant. Was able to take some photos with it empty. Which was nice. Greeted quickly, sat down fast, and ordered all within minutes. Everyone was friendly and service was prompt. The salsa and chips were very good! Got pastor tacos and loved the tortilla, the meat, and the salsa for them. Very good. Had a side of avocado that is usually expensive and not a lot of avocado but not here. You get a ton for the price. Priced nicely, beautiful restaurant, and good food. I'll come back.
Food was great with very nice presentation, they serve authentic mexican dishes. I got the enmoladas & my mom got the huarache. We both enjoyed our food. However.. Did not have too much of a good first impression here as we waiting to be seated & no one really paid attention to us. Secondly, when we received the menus they were dirty.. not a good look. Id say if the place was a bit more clean it would’ve been a 5 for me. Also to mention this place is fairly small, be expected to sit right next to someone. They also charge for the chips & salsa. The food is what made our overall experience worth while.
I can say that the food in this Mexico inspired restaurant is very good, I was happy with the flavor and presentation of every dish. The restaurant is a little hidden but they do have indoor and outdoor seating for the good weather days. Their drinks are refreshing. Unfortunately we did not get good service, and I couldn’t tell if it was the way the do business or just bad customer service from our server. She was not rude but she definitely did not had a good attitude, her lack of attention to our table and her cold service was very noticeable. I think bad servers can ruin a good experience and can determine if you want to go back to that establishment. Hopefully they improve their service soon.
The atmosphere was vibrant and had an authentic feel, which I really appreciated. However, the food itself was quite bland and didn’t meet my expectations in terms of flavor. I also tried the hibiscus tea, and while refreshing, it was overly sweet. A bit of adjustment on the seasoning and sweetness levels would really improve the overall experience.
Just No... here's why. I am trying to be as objective as possible and it is rare when I rate a business negatively. We were in the city close to them and naturally it was suggested by Google Maps. I didn't read the reviews, I only based my decision on the pictures, which they've invested in... This is good. However, I skipped the reviews because we were hungry and we ended up going. They were able to sit us although we had no reservation. The menu had some tantalizing dishes and we chose the pastor octopus tacos, the Mexican corn (okay), flor de calabaza empanadas (not bad), Huarache and Mole Enchiladas. For drinks, a Jamaica, an horchate/espresso, and tamarind/pineapple cocktail if I recall correctly on the last one. Everything, and I do mean Everything was over seasoned, salty or too sweet (drinks), or over spicy. I can handle the heat, but for a sharable appetizer, to be super spicy... I've never. It would have been appreciated if the waitress had mentioned the spice level like she did when she mentioned the Birria Ramen and how is typically returned because of that same reason; over spicy and over seasoned. The empanadas were the only fairly decent thing had it not been for the heat. The guacamole or green salsa, was way too salty. Even my daughter, (7) mentioned the huarache meat was "weird" tasting and she didn't eat it, and she can be carnivore. I'm not one to return or make a complaint unless the service is bad, so we just paid our $150/with tip and, based on this experience, I would not recommend going. I would not recommend paying this high prices for a less than average experience, and I'm being subtle. It might've been a one time issue, but based on the Birria Ramen the waitress mentioned and the fact that everything we ordered was mediocre, this is my review.
***RAW CHICKEN*** The evening was almost perfect. A couple hours after getting home from dining with you all I decided to eat some of the leftovers which we left with tons of leftovers and flavor wise the food taste good portions are huge however my 4 year son had the plain marinated chicken tacos and he only ate a couple pieces which was odd cause i knew he was hungry, but I just packed the rest to go and I decided to eat some of the leftovers i packed his tacos with my flautas so then I noticed there are a handful of raw chunks of chicken from his tacos and now I feel awful cause my son didn't wanna eat much of it and I think this is why. in the restaurant it's very dim and dark in especially in the evening which is nice but could be why I didn't notice this sooner and I hope he doesn't get sick I hope I don't get sick since I ate a couple bites at the restaurant. Majority of the evening was great but my 4 year old being served raw chicken just leaves me feeling awful. It's 1 am now. Several of my siblings have dined here before and they loved it this was my first time and we came with those family members. It's upsetting getting raw chicken I feel worse since my toddler ate it. I hope for the best.
The guy that served us was horrible and didn’t even know what he was doing. My husband asked for something and it was extremely spicy and it was understandable but when we asked to order something else and stated that it was spicy the waiter said “yeah I know it is” in a negative way. The food took long although there was no one. Another lady she was very nice and professional compared to the guy. We knew we were being talked about by the other workers and we decided to leave. Do not recommend.
My family and I have been loyal customers of Maderas, but our recent visit for a birthday celebration was a huge disappointment. With the exception of the chicken enmoladas and the beef fajitas, the food was mediocre. The service, however, was the most memorable part of the evening for all the wrong reasons. Our waitress was condescending and rude from the moment we sat down. Her attitude only changed when she brought the check, that's the only time when we saw her smile, seemingly hoping for a better tip. To make matters worse, she confused some of our orders and charged us for a second round of chips without bothering to mention the extra cost or the mandatory 20% tip on our bill, seemingly hoping we would not notice. It's disheartening that a special occasion was affected by such poor service. I hope management sees this and takes steps to address these issues.
