A longtime friend took me to lunch today, to a place he grew up with - Stanton’s City Bites. As we parked, he reminisced about his childhood, pointing to the now-closed school across the street where he once spent his days. Inside, he recalled stopping by the back counter to buy lunch meat, chatting with the owner, who always knew him by name. Established in 1961, Stanton's began as a small family-run grocery store. Over the decades, it evolved into a beloved burger joint, known for its unique, made-to-order burgers that keep Houston locals coming back. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger, and while I’ve written a few restaurant reviews before, I’m not sure I can do this one justice. When it arrived, it was a sight to behold—a thick, juicy patty nestled between a golden, toasted bun. The bacon was crisp, the cheese melted perfectly over the edges, and the lettuce and tomatoes tasted as if they had been picked fresh that morning. The first bite? A perfect balance of smoky, savory, and slightly sweet flavors that instantly made it clear: this was no ordinary burger. Drink choices were plentiful, from classic sodas to fountain drinks. What truly set Stanton’s apart wasn’t just the food, it was the experience. Stepping inside Stanton’s is like stepping into a Houston time capsule. From an old AstroWorld pennant hanging on the wall to a life-size Rudy Tomjanovich poster, the place breathes nostalgia. Every corner tells a story, every detail a nod to the past. As we left, noticed a worn patch on the ground near the entrance. The spot where the public telephones used to be. Remember those? Beepers? That’s what this visit did - it brought back memories of a simpler, happier time. We came for a burger. We left with something more. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Excellent burger! The fried pickles were heavy on bread, but nice and crunchy with a great pickle flavor. Overall everything was awesome. The burger had great flavor and a nice crust to it while staying moist. It is not a smash burger but it’s clearly a flattop burger. Bacon was crunchy and juicy. I really don’t have any complaints. I can’t wait to bring back some more friends and family. Clean and homey little spot with a super friendly staff as well! Prices were right on point and it will not break your bank, just your belt!
Me and my man went a few weekends ago & the burger are good. I had the turkey burger w fries. I give it a 9/10. He had the bacon cheeseburger with tater tots and he gave it a 8.5/10. This place is amazing. We went for the first time and already plan on coming back. So far, this is our favorite burger spot in Houston. The staff was incredibly kind, the food is made fresh, the drink options are great, and the vibe inside is welcoming and relaxed. I would recommend this to any local. We will definitely be back. So happy to have found a close, family run burger spot.

Came here on a whim with my partner! We had a great experience, the staff were incredible very helpful and attentive. Gave great food recommendations. The burger was a great size and super juicy. Would highly recommend.
The food was amazing! We got the Truck Stopper and the Blue Moon burgers and shared an order of onion rings. The onion rings were light and crispy, just perfect. Now the burgers! Oh the burgers were awesome: the Blue Moon, just the right amount of blue cheese not to overwhelm the burger, and the Truck Stopper had the right amount of toppings. What really impressed was that they butter toasted the buns! All around great meal.
I had the bacon cheeseburger and parmesan fries. When I tell you they have some of the juiciest burgers around. They're not flashy or over the top. But they have consistent quality food.
We’re visiting from out of town and decided to come into the city for some local bites, and I’m so glad we stumbled upon Stanton based on the great reviews and word of mouth. What a hidden gem! The place has such great vintage charm, and the atmosphere instantly makes you feel like you found something special. The portions were generous, the flavors were spot-on, and the value for the size and taste was incredible. You can tell they put real care into what they serve. Definitely a spot we’re happy we found - highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable local meal!
Immediately greeted and given reccomendations on the menu. Large JUICY burger, WELL seasoned cajun fries. Coming here for a trip and got here early, could not be more pleased with our experience. GLASS BOTTLES of drinks with bottle openers. Perfect atmosphere. Everyone was freindly and personable. Clean bathrooms.
Absolutely delicious burger! From the moment you walk in the door - to the walk out - the staff are attentive and pleasant - and we came in an hr before closing on Sunday. No rushed feeling. No attitude. Awesome awesome experience Burger was cooked perfectly. Flavored well. The perfect amount of “crispy/char” I like on a burger. The bun toasted to perfection. Fries were super crisp & hot. This is honestly the best burger I’ve had since moving here (so. 8 years now 😅😅) It is a blink and you’ll miss it location. But thank you google gods for suggesting it! Staton’s City Bites never disappoints! I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and onion rings — both were absolutely delicious. Easily top 3 best burgers in Houston. Walking in felt like walking into a time capsule. Everything was cooked perfectly and with the right amount of flavor. The family running this business is very welcoming. This place has top tier aura.
Wanted to try a new burger place and came here. Got the Truck Stopper and the Spicy Chipotle with fries. Burgers and fries were very good. Appealing options for burgers. Liked the diner-style setting and vintage decor. Staffer who took our order was nice and made helpful recommendations. Interested to try their Chilis next time. There are a few parking spots in front of the restaurant; otherwise, I think people park in the street.

I have wanted to go here for so long. Totally wish I had gone sooner. The burger is so well seasoned. It is delicious. I got one with blue cheese and bacon with fried pickles on the side. A wonderful family owned neighborhood treasure. The food was delicious. I stumbled across this place and was greatly surprised. Different burger options with sides of fries, tater tots, or onion rings. Old hardwood floors and a long diner bar. They still use an old register and lots of history. Would definitely come here often if I was a local.

The Chipotle burger wasn't to our taste nor were the Italian fries. However, the owner was gracious enough to refund the whole meal since it was our first time. That type of attentive service is generally lacking so it was deeply appreciated here.
I wish my picture was more impressive because this burger is way better than my photo would have you believe. Well seasoned patty that was not thick, but more than your normal thin flat top burger. Chili cheese with habanero mustard. Definitely felt the spice on this one. Tater tots were nice and crispy.

We called Shara's our order, it was ready soon after our arrival. The atmosphere is a neat vintage diner. Order at the counter and then be seated. \nThe food was solid.
I ordered online. I got the Bacon Cheeseburger, onion rings and fried pickles. I’m a fried pickle aficionado. Burger was great! Onion rings were delicious. Fried pickles were some of the worst. The pickles were paper-thin and so all you were eating was a bite of fried. 1% pickle. Boo.

This place has a lot of good reviews so we decided to give it a try but honestly we couldn’t figure out where these reviews are coming from. Food tasted like bowling alley food and nothing really special or tasty. Paying $11 for a burger without fries and drink is kind of unreasonable, they say it’s a half a pound burger but to me it’s not even a quarter pound. Fried pickles had so much breading that it’s hard to taste the pickles. We have had tastier hotdogs at Sonic than what we got here, everything was pretty bland. Only item we like was the onion rings. Another nice thing about this place was old signs, thermometers, clocks, etc. I think the tipping situation is getting out of hand too at this kind of restaurant too, you tip but you have to pick up after yourself. Not sure why am I tipping for. Overall we did not have a good experience with the food at this location.

Ordered via door dash and it doesn't live up to all.the good reviews. It was old stale rubbery onion rings, a bacon burger with no bacon, just 2 half soggy pieces and cheese wasn't melted, old pickles one thin paper slice old tomato and 3 slivers of onion. They really cut corners and rip people off with delivery and its unethical! I want my $27 back and will be DISPUTING THE CHARGE WITH MY BANK.
