Typical cafe setting with enough indoor seating available and free Wifi. Was able to use my tablet for a bit on the table with enough room to spare for a paper notebook. Very short walk from the nearby Inn and there's also some decent food available. However, the food I was served was lukewarm. Not really a major issue but for the price I paid, I should have asked them to heat it up a bit more.
This place, to me, is underrated! They have a great selection of pastries ... the coffee is not too bad either. It is a very clean and cool indoor space, and they do have outdoor seating, too. Some covered parking, too, is great for the Palm Springs heat. I recommend checking this place.
I literally went here a few months ago… I was just thinking about the place again tonight and realized I hadn’t written a review. I had such a nice time there despite being alone at the moment. My friends were shopping and I needed a bathroom. The place was clean and had a cool vibe. I decided to order a snack and a beverage. My piece of banana bread was amazing, my drink was great and the service both friendly and thoughtful! I will definitely be recommending this place as a stopping spot when going up to Idyllwild to my friends and family. I know I will be back! Thanks Pure Bean! 🌸
Best coffee I've had in awhile. From a sustainability standpoint (which should be important to a coffee shop that goes through so many cups a day in a mountain town), I love that they offer REAL cups and mugs, however I look around and notice most people are drinking out of a paper cup because the employee didn't ask. I wish this place would train employees to ask if the customer wants a real mug or a paper one so we could minimize our environmental footprint here. Or even a monetary incentive for people to choose to get the reusable cup. Thanks for the excellent coffee!
Loved my visit to Pure Bean Idyllwild. Such a warm and welcoming place, you really feel like part of something the moment you walk in. The coffee was excellent, the food super fresh, and the service honestly couldn’t have been nicer. Everyone was kind and relaxed, especially the owner, who brings such a genuine, personal touch to the place. It’s great to see how much of a local favorite it is - even early in the morning, people were already there chatting, starting their day together. That gave the whole café a really cozy, community feel I won’t forget. Wishing them all the best and continued success. Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in town!
I heard this is one of the best coffee places around so I drove all the way out from LA to see it. It was unbelievable. I can’t believe how good the coffee food and the atmosphere is. definitely recommend a trip from Los Angeles to check this place out.
I got the honey lavender latte! So good! The cappuccino was amazing as well! Also love the option between 2 or 4 shots of espresso for the same price!
great coffee! i had the alpine autumn latte, iced, soooo good! ☕️🍂🍁 great, quick, service. will come back every time i’m up here in idyllwild!
Such a gem in Idyllwild! Coffee is beyond delicious, and they have yummy vegan pastries too! Very nice and cozy inside to have a morning latte on chilly days, as well as pleasant outdoor sitting overlooking the mountains. And it’s open since 6am everyday! So happy I discovered it.
Beautiful coffee shop! Very friendly staff and great coffee! Special coffee: Cozy Cabin!
Wonderful, cozy coffee house. I really appreciated the great service! As a barista, I can say, this place has the best espresso you’ll find around this area!
Pure Bean is a must-visit coffee spot in Idyllwild! Their locally roasted coffee is brewed fresh, and the pastries are always delicious. Whether you sit indoors or outdoors, the cozy and welcoming atmosphere makes it the perfect place to relax. The newly renovated space adds to the charm, and the beautiful views of the mountains and town center make it even more special. The friendly staff and great service make every visit enjoyable. Whether you're grabbing a quick cup or settling in for a peaceful moment, Pure Bean is the perfect stop for coffee lovers. Highly recommend!
Treasure in the mountain. Cozy atmosphere with huge Christmas trees in front of the balcony. Outdoor seats would be really nice when weather is not too cold. Indoor seats are comfy as well. Coffee is good but with room to improve, I find the Cappucino hmm, a bit weak in taste but overall, a great experience at Pure Bean Idy.

Came here after the nearby donut place turned out to be not good. This place is very spacious and cozy, has great coffee and great service. Super dog friendly too.
Pure Bean Indy has the best coffee, and they know how to make the drinks, my lattes are always perfect. The staff is friendly and the place is clean and comfortable, there is also an outdoor area to sit and enjoy the beauty of Idyllwild.
I don't typically leave many reviews, but I want to highlight the exceptional service I received calling in an order to Pure Bean Idy. I called wanting to do a coffee order for a friend who works nearby, and Matt the owner was gracious enough to walk it across the street to her. It is that level of service that really makes a business stand out. Thank you Matt for taking the time to talk to me and for what you did!!
Very cute coffee shop. We had the drip coffee it was delicious. I can tell it’s good because it didn’t taste burnt or bitter
Such a cute coffee place! All the pastries looked sooo good. We had two of the speciality lattes, one was caramel vanilla and the other was a mocha latte. Both absolutely delicious. I did ask for half the sweetness which for me was perfect. I usually get a vanilla latte anywhere else. We also got a croissant and a caramel sea salt cookie.
Pure Bean Idy is a great place to start your day. They open earlier than most places, ensuring plenty of available seating, whether inside or outside (I recommend outside for an awesome view of the mountains). The barista recommendations are excellent, so if you're unsure what to have, they've got you covered! Overall, it was a great experience, and I will definitely go again soon!

It gets really busy here so it was nice to order online and do pick up!
Updated review. I've gotten used to the high prices, the staff is always friendly and its' about the only bathroom in town. (At least the only one you can find.) The pastries are okay, nothing to write home about and super expensive. But my current pet peeve is when it's super busy I always just order regular coffee. At Starbucks and Coffee Bean, when you order regular coffee they turn around and pour it for you and hand it to you. Easy, peasy and your done. Here, they put your cup in line with the blended drinks and you wait forever (if it's busy)! Why, oh why, can't they just turn around and pour one and hand it to you? If Starbucks and CB can do it, so can you! Okay, that's it for today!
Love the atmosphere here in this cute place with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Three baristas with decent coffee. Limited food selection. Very dog friendly with a dog bar. they have a nice wraparound deck where you can take your coffee and enjoy looking up at the mountain
Great spot! Always go for a morning coffee when I camp in Idyllwild. Pleasant staff, alt milk available, some vegan options for pastries usually. Very cute place and dog friendly!

We found Pure Bean Coffee in the main area of shops in Idylewild. It’s a casual shop to eat and drink. They have a selection a bakery items. They have a few tables and benches outside. Nice area around shops.

Wonderful stop for a Joe and pastry! We split the Hummingbird Coffee Cake and the Shortbread Bar and it turned out to be way too much food. The Cappucino was excellent! We got there right in time as the line went out the door shortly thereafter. Really good place, but really slow. Take caution.

Coffee and pastries are alright. The new decor is completely generic and interchangeable and the only character comes from what little wood trim is left. I really miss the old espresso machine tables and decorations (there are very few now). Used to come here every time I am in Idy, which is often :/ You might as well go to any of the others (Alpaca down the street's just as good); nothing special here anymore. From 6 star vibes to kind of whatever. PS the old name was also better! Higher grounds for a coffee shop in a high elevation town -- what a great pun! Shame it changed.
I don't like the coffee here, but it has the best milk drinks in the town. I prefer the smoothie here. Nice seating.
Service is very slow, I waited at the counter while they did a bunch of other things which bothered me because it was obvious I was waiting awhile. The food and drinks are good but everything is overpriced. I was shocked when the loaf bread and drinks cost like $14. The cafe is cute enough but basic, like people said. Overall nothing that special.
The coffee was good but the staff got the order right only on the third try, which was frustrating!
Stopped in on Labor Day, it was fairly busy. Staff were friendly, welcoming and worked in a timely manner, which was very appreciated. We chose to sit outside since it was fairly full inside and not much room for someone in a wheelchair. All we had were iced lattes which unfortunately tasted extremely burnt. The outside area was nice, with lovely views and live music in the courtyard area.
I got the mountain lodge and it was standard. Food was also standard. Butter croissant tasted like it was bought from the grocery store although it was $5. Prices were a little too much for the quality. Coffee was $7. Burrito was like $10 for a small burrito

Happy staff are a plus, but when the staff are loud playing games while taking longer on orders gives a bad vibe! (A paying customer should always be the most important) AND PLEASE, train the staff on how to make a mocha! A mocha is not a glorified hot chocolate as seen in the picture, and it should NEVER look like one! 👀

Shocking experience! We’re greeted with aggression and yelling by one of the employees, excused by other employee with “sorry we are little busier than normal”! There were only 6-8 costumers waiting in line!!! Take it as a blessing that you are busy! Instead attitude, welcome your costumers with Gratitude! Couple of years ago it was great coffee shop!
Paid this coffee shop a visit on Sunday, January 26th. It was a busy day and the wait was long, so I did a lot of people watching. The counter is very short for the volume of beverages in queue and with one barista making drinks, one on register, another female helping with the food and a second female assisting labeling cups and grabbing pastries. She was trying to help. What I was very grossed out and concerned about was that THAT young lady assisting the cashier and the barista kept adjusting her outfit, touching her hair and playing with her jewelry all the while cross contaminating all the cups she was touching. When I went back to the register to pick up a pastry the cashier forgot to add to my order, I asked him to grab the pastry because I didn’t want the female cross contaminating my pastry. When I addressed the situation they were VERY confused…so I’m assuming your employees don’t have food handler certificates or else they’d know that touching their hair and jewelry is not permissible. After I paid for my banana bread we turned to exit and my daughter saw them laughing and smirking at us. So be advised future patrons…your food and beverage may come with a complimentary side of dandruff…and you may not even know it.
Coffee was watery and flavorless, and the chai tea latte was over sugared and under tea/spice flavored. Prices were more expensive than reasonable compared to other places in the area especially considering the quality was low (small black coffee and small chai latte was a bit over $10 combined). Also the bags should be compostable not the manmade materials used. The vibe and rebranding under new management is going for a gentrified vibe and no longer the solid quality comfortable fair value vibe it should be. The old roastery was much much better. Overall quality beans and a quality brew are the least one should be able to expect from an expensive coffee shop.
The previous cozy atmosphere is completely gone. It’s been remodeled to look like just another basic coffee shop and has lost all the charm it used to have when it was Higher Grounds. On top of that, the espresso was not good. Response to owner: Hello, I'm sorry to hear you don't like feedback. I would love to see this return to a community-focused space with better coffee. Until then, I'll be going to Alpaca and Black Mountain. Take care!
Terrible coffee- also just saw the lady use bare hands to clean up the whipped cream on a customers drink- gross!!!
This place was way better when it was Higher Ground. It used to have a warm and cozy feel to it and was fun to hang out at, now it just looks like a generic corporate coffee spot. I highly advise anyone DO NOT GET A SMOOTHIE. We tried the smoothies and it was basically iced concentrated orange juice. They literally just blended ice and concentrated orange juice together. It was so acidic it was like drinking a frozen car battery or even worse, stomach acid. Just avoid it at all costs.
I miss Higher Grounds, this place can do better. In regards to owners comment about my experience, higher grounds was better, the coffee, the staff and whoever was running it then. Now look at it. Lol. Are we not in Idyllwild anymore? When do it get so “L.A.” the prices, the people, and the people who own it. It’s just a shame. Don’t think I’ll be coming back as a local, ever again.
