Avis sur Red Hat on the River Irvington
My go to spot for my girlfriend and I to celebrate big events. The food is delicious and a great selection. Some things are a little pricey for the amount you get but you are paying for the terrific Service as well. Drinks are a little expensive... a glass of cabernet is $22, which I thought was a little much. Terrific place especially in the warm weather where you can sit outside and get a beautiful view of the Hudson and the Palisades on the opposite Shore
It’s tradition to come here on my birthday, Red Hat is one of my favorite restaurants. Always stellar service, fresh and prettily plated food, and yummy cocktails. They may not be strong enough for most, ask to make it strong. Loved the scallops here last time, they paired well with the frites (always get the frites!) Lastly, for adult birthdays they serve a sweet melon liqueur that’s good with whatever dessert you choose. I got olive oil cake with toasted almonds. Share with a friend to make it even sweeter!
Just got back from Red Hat on the River – beautiful spot right on the Hudson! It was packed, definitely a lively atmosphere. The food was good, especially the tuna appetizer, but honestly, the portions felt a little small for the price. Our server seemed more interested in chatting with other tables. Parking was a nightmare, had to park a few blocks away. Would have loved a bit more attention to detail and bigger plates!
Red Hat never disappoints, whether for a quick lunch meeting, after-work drinks with apps, friends night out or a celebratory occasion! The staff is welcoming and helpful, the atmosphere is lively and fun (but you can still have a quiet conversation at your table without shouting), and the food is amazing. I’ve never seen or heard of them having an “off night,” which is impressive given the size of staff and volume they do. I would totally recommend!
We celebrated one of our dear friend’s final birthdays at the Red Hat and she absolutely loved it. The staff was so kind and accommodating. All members of the party were treated respectfully (unlike our experience across the way at MP Taverna.) The food was absolutely delicious, well plated, and served in a timely and organized manner. It was a little chilly for outdoor seating but we still admired the view of the Hudson River. The fresh tuna appetizer was a fan favorite! We will be back for more celebrations in the future.
Wow, wow, wow!! This place is so wonderful. We celebrated my mom’s birthday there, a table of 12 people and a baby. Everything was perfect. Juan took care of us, and it was awesome! The view is stunning, the food is delicious, and the prices are fair. I highly recommend it! Thank you We will be back soon!!!
Although this place was a little pricey, I’d say it’s completely worth it. Me and my family went there to celebrate my mom’s birthday and I can confidently say the next time I have to celebrate anything. I will be inviting my family and friends to red hat on the river. I thought it was really cool that they had nonalcoholic mixed drinks even though I’m of age my two younger sisters aren’t so I enjoyed being able to share a drink with them in the fancy cups lol. After dinner, we asked if we could go to the roof to lounge and take photos and the staff and servers were so incredibly kind and allowed us to go up and take photos and we stayed there pretty much until closing. They didn’t rush us at all. They were just so nice and selfless and kind. One of the servers even complimented my nails and told me I should open my own business of doing nails. She was so sweet. I don’t remember her name, but I will never forget her kind words.
Great food and a beautiful view! Especially during sunset. We had the caesar salad, soup of the day, spicy tuna tostadas, prime hanger steak in every sauce available and the scallops. All incredible and very fresh cuts of meats and fish. The soup was incredible and their drinks were amazing. This was my late mom’s favorite restaurant in Irvington. We went here to honor her. It was a great night full of laughter and memories. Beautiful view, great service, great drinks and food.

This Resturant is a hidden gem. Situated on the Hudson River, the ambiance is wonderful. The food was excellent! And the service personal was very attentive.
Heavenly place by the river, literally next to the water. Sunsets here are gorgeous especially sitting outdoors with late afternoon drinks and some food. The menu, however, left me disappointed, similar to pub food/cafe-style menu with extremely upscale and inflated prices . When your Caesar salad comes out in a very small portion but charging over $20+ for it, WITHOUT any meat, you have to wonder what you’re really paying for…. The view? There was no tablecloth on the outdoo table, just the iron table/chair, similar to what you’d find at the park. I expected better, at least, if you’re gonna be upscale about everything else. Nothing else on the menu looked appetizing enough, but the company at dinner was lovely, and that was more than enough for me. We were rushed out/kicked out of our table to honor their reservations. We overstayed our welcome. I’d come back for drinks alone and dine elsewhere.
A real class dinning experince. We went in early September for dinner, and the weather was perfect for outdoor seating. The staff was warm and professional, and even without a reservation we were seated immediately. Appetizers came out quickly, but the entrees took a little time. However, the food was delicious. I got the crispy chicken milanese and it was out of this world. Perfect blend of flavors and textures. The atmoshpere was very tranquil and lowkey, and the views of the river really add to the ambiance. The one thing that I would say was a sore spot is that the food here is on the pricer side. Overall though I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a good spot to plan a date or a get together with friends!
What a delicious afternoon I just had, at Red Hat on the River. My friend and I wanted to try something new and after a coin toss, Red Hat it was! I wish the weather had been better because Red Hat sits beautifully on the Hudson and the views would have been incredible. Thanks a lot, fog. The hosts greeted us and sat us immediately. Now here's where the first and only* hiccup of the night occurred: I asked our server if they had Coke or Pepsi products. She said "Pepsi" but when she saw that I clearly had a coke preference, she stated "well I think we have some cans of coke". You mean the best kind of coke? GREAT! I anxiously awaited my can of coke but when the server brought over the glass, already filled with "coke", my suspicions grew. I took a sip of what was clearly FLAT Pepsi. As Judge Judy once said, "Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining." No way soda from a CAN would have tasted like that...and I know my coke. No big deal, I ordered a "sprite" or whatever they actually served and it was fine. For apps we ordered the peach burrata and the crab cakes. The crab cakes, while yummy, were INCREDIBLY small. I'm talking ACTUAL bite size. The peach burrata was amazing! The peaches mixed with cucumbers were incredibly fresh and made for such a fresh bite. We asked for some bread to accompany the burrata. (Side note: what is it with places serving burrata with no toast points or bread? I don't get that) For our entrees we had the lobster roll with a side salad and the rice bowl with shrimp. NO NOTES!! The rice bowl was fragrant and delicious and the lobster was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Since we ate all our food, we knew we deserved dessert. We both ordered the golden latte but mine was hot while hers was iced. I appreciated what they tried to do there, but both of our drinks could've been a little sweeter. I asked for some sugar and it definitely helped. Along with our drinks we shared the lemon ricotta cake. It was superb! We literally ate everything! I actually can't wait to try it again with my fiancé. They have a steak frite on the menu and you can choose whether you want strip steak or a ribeye!
Three Stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ Here’s why: - First, the most important thing, the food! Kudos to the chef! We had the crab cake, the chicken and the scallops. Everything was on point, balanced and delicious! - Second, the atmosphere. Absolutely beautiful with the view of the sunset on the Hudson. Not too noisy and really nice. - Now, the bad. In terms of cocktails. Not good. Ordered a Lavender Lane, not good, not good at all. So I had to return it, that got ugly, but I’ll get into that later. I decided it to replace it with the restaurant’s version of the Aperol Sprits. Not really good, just a mere meh… I believe that the bartenders could have an improvement by going back to the basics. Just had to see how they shook their drinks to realize their lack of essential knowledge. They were just mixing them with ice, instead of using the right technique to actually break the ice. And also, the lack of balance on the drinks. Really one was bad and the other was bland. Lastly, the ugly. The service started normal. The restaurant was a little busy so we could understand a little delay, and that we got, at the beginning. We got our drinks after a while, and to be fair, the beer and the wine were good. But my cocktails were definitely not. So when I returned the cocktail, the Lavender Lane, we all felt an attitude from the waiter when I ordered a different drink and he said “but do you like the Aperol Sprits”, implying that I didn’t know what I was ordering, or that I couldn’t distinguish a good drink from a bad one… Anyways, we tried to don’t put too much attention to it, but then it seemed strange that when we got our drinks the waiter didn’t took our food order, even when the menus were put on the side of the table, and that took another unnecessary waiting time. I have to say that the bussers and the food runners were checking on us constantly and were very polite and attentive as expected. So when my wife’s beer was almost finished, we told one of them to help us get a new one, then after five minutes another one, 10 minutes later the waiter (previously nowhere to be seen) finally showed up with an Aperol, not the beer. (Also, it looked totally different to the one I was initially given, to show the inconsistency at the bar). So five minutes later, we got our beer. By the way, the busboy who poured it, left all the gas in the liquid, so additional training may be required on that end… Anyways, we continued our evening, ordered another glass of wine, that one never came, so our appetite for dessert was gone, considering the waiting times. I saw a lady working close by, whom turned out to be the manager at the moment, and asked her for the check (also, take in account that 10 mins earlier I asked my waiter for it). So gave her my card and she brought the check to sign. It turned out I was charged for THREE beers instead of two. So I had to have someone call her to fix it. By that point I had lost any hopes with the waiter. And so she did, she apologized and fixed it. As I was calculating the tip, the waiter came and tried to apologize, but used an overfamiliar attitude, even called me “hermano” which is “bro” in Spanish which I consider completely inappropriate for fine dining. So when I signed, I thank the manager, the bussers, and the chef. And due to the last interaction, I put to the waiter a reminder to don’t call customers “hermanos”. And finally, left. I took my time to enjoy the beautiful sunset, and as I was leaving, the waiter approached me and with a fake apology, approached the last incident, he, full of sarcasm, said “I’m sorry for offending you by using the word hermano, I didn’t know that it was such a bad word”. I replied “I wish it was a sincere apology” and left. So I believe that the inefficiency and lack of self awareness are things to work in the future. The service deserved zero stars‼️ but thanks to the quality of the food, and the positive attitude of the manager, host, food runners and bussers, I give the restaurant 4 stars, not for the experience that I had, but rather the potential that I see…
Food was delicious. Services was great. Ambiance on point, just a bit hot upstairs, but the vibe was perfect for 3 friends from college to catch up.

I visited Red Hat on the River for a daytime meal with a friend, and while the restaurant itself is beautiful and the host stand staff were warm and welcoming (coat check included, which was a nice touch), my overall experience was disappointing. Most of the staff we encountered were friendly, but the service from our assigned server fell far below the standard one would expect from an establishment that presents itself as upscale. While I was asking questions about the menu, it became clear that our server was far more engaged with another newly seated table—guests who appeared to be her regulars. Their interactions were warm, attentive, and enthusiastic, while our table was largely overlooked. Throughout the meal, our server rarely checked on us. We had to flag her down for basic things like water, refills, or assistance. She didn’t return to ask how our food was, didn’t offer dessert, and made no effort to provide the level of service typically associated with fine dining. Other staff members ended up being more attentive to our table than she was. As for the food: unfortunately, it did not redeem the visit. The $42 salmon was a very small portion, dry, and overcooked. The Florentine Eggs Benedict was average at best, and the potatoes were simply large chunks without any memorable flavor or preparation. For pricing at this level, I expected much better quality and execution. I travel often and visit restaurants ranging from small local spots to high-end dining, and I try to be fair in my assessments. While the front-of-house team was lovely and the restaurant’s setting is genuinely beautiful, I would not return based on the service we received or the quality of the food. Perhaps sitting at the bar or having another server might lead to a different experience, but the food itself was underwhelming. I’m sure the restaurant maintains a loyal following, and I can understand how regulars enjoy being warmly recognized and cared for. However, as a first-time patron, my experience did not reflect the level of hospitality or culinary quality I expected.
1st time dining here and the ambiance was excellent. Beautiful views of the city & TZ bridge from the front patio area. The service was very very attentive and on point. The place is very cozy and beautiful. The only negative thing (which is really major) was the value & food. The charcuterie was embarrassing & poorly presented. Most of the food was drenched and I mean drenched in oil like the Exxon-Valdez and don’t tell me it’s “finishing oil”. The kids pasta & steak were great. The $17-$18 salad was dressed perfectly but the price for a simple salad! I guess you gotta pay the rent.
I was in white plains for a training. I went there with my colleagues as it was recommended by a friend. Overpriced for sure. Our waiter was so rushed and did not care whether he gave the right answers. Did not take the time to explain. For instance, would a “snack” on the menu work as an appetizer to share? Yes of course was the answer. Then split/share a meatball sandwich?! The food was good but overpriced really! I asked for a medium steak and it was well done. I was just pointing it out to the waiter for info and feedback, and he didn’t own it and pushed back. World class service in my opinion. Just the day before and the day after had medium steak at other places and clearly not the same medium definition. Experience = crap! I am nice and giving 3 stars.
This restaurant is all about the views and dining by the river. Service was excellent, surprisingly, the food was average and really nothing special.

We chose Red Hat on the River for a very special moment, a proposal, and unfortunately the experience was incredibly disappointing. We planned everything in advance and were explicitly told that a proposal at the restaurant was okay. We also had a confirmed dining reservation, and all of our guests who arrived as a surprise ordered drinks at the bar, so we were absolutely patrons of the restaurant. On the day of the event, the weather turned extremely windy and snowy, which was completely unpredictable. We politely asked if we could set up a small flower arch for about 20 minutes just to take a few photos and then remove it. Despite the restaurant being completely empty at the time (even though they claimed to have reservations), the manager refused and was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. After repeatedly trying to compromise, he finally allowed us to place the arch in a tiny corner, but only if we moved our own tables. The entire interaction was stressful and unwelcoming, especially for what should have been a happy, once-in-a-lifetime moment. To make matters worse, the manager then attempted to charge $40 simply to uncork a bottle of champagne for a quick celebratory toast and photo. At that point, it felt less about policy and more about a lack of basic hospitality or empathy. A proposal should be joyful and smooth, not something that requires begging for basic accommodation. It costs nothing to be kind, especially when the restaurant was empty and the request was minimal and temporary. I would strongly avoid this restaurant for any special occasion. What should have been a beautiful memory was overshadowed by poor management and unnecessary stress.
