Salt and Meadow

The food at this restaurant continues to get better and better. We have been visiting the Tides Inn for years and the current chef is doing amazing things with the menu. He is a real talent and the service is wonderful- welcoming and helpful.

We booked a reservation for our 25 th anniversary and were greeted warmly with “Happy Anniversary” which was nice. The server was excellent but we waited for our drinks for nearly 30 minutes after ordering and our dinner took nearly 50 minutes. It was not that busy with many empty tables. Our food was very good and it is a very nice atmosphere.

My Wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Salt and Meadow. I was a little concerned having read about complaints of slow service but our waitress, Ruth, did a wonderful job. She was very prompt with our drinks and food. We had the rock fish special that was delicious and the beef filet. A very enjoyable evening.

Unfortunately a disappointing menu - minimal to no local seafood options (prawns from Nova Scotia, lobster that is not local to Bay). Service was ok - we waited 30+ minutes for a bottle of wine, received our food before the bottle of wine. The salad and crab cake was 5/5 and the atmosphere was beautiful - we were seated by the window and had a great view!

Came here for dinner with the family while staying in Urbanna, VA. Ages ranging from 34-72. The food was delicious, however portions were small (especially the crabcake) and everything is quite overpriced for what you get. The 90s smooth jazz blaring over the speakers made the place seem pretty dated and stuffy. Overall the establishment could use a little personality, it feels a bit sterile and uptight.

We were staying in the area for Memorial Day weekend for my husband’s 60th birthday. We wanted a special meal at Salt & Meadow to celebrate the occasion. We were a group of nine, my husband called 4 times to speak with someone at the restaurant to iron out some details. No one ever called him back, which should have been a red flag. When we arrived at the restaurant- we were informed the chef decided to do a prix fixe menu for $175 per person - no a la carte options. Our reservation was on the late side and we were a dressed up group of 9 - hard to accommodate at the last minute on a holiday weekend. We had a nice meal, the food was solid but not outstanding - especially for the price. It felt very heavy handed to have this prix menu without informing patrons of this fact beforehand. We felt taken advantage of and that was not the feeling we wanted to leave with for a momentous birthday.

We decided to take our friends to lunch here on the 4th of July, with reservations for the patio. The atmosphere was great, but the service was disappointing. We waited over 20 minutes for our drinks. Once the food was delivered to our table, no one came back to ask if we needed anything. It was truly disappointing, considering the meal cost over $200. We won't be returning anytime soon. We should have just gone to the Fish Hawk Bar & Grill on the property. At least the service there is good and the staff is friendly. Come on, Tides Inn—get it together. You're supposed to be a destination for our area, but you're missing the mark with Salt & Meadow. From a local, the drinks and the food were served later. The person to ask, ever.

We had lunch reservations and arrived literally just 5 mins late... hostest was incredibly rude upon arrival and would not seat us. So we went to The Local instead and food (and service) was amazing!

Beautiful view, great day, and we were ready to drop $165 on a bottle of champagne and have a nice lunch on the patio… but we never got the chance. We were sat, poured water, told a server would be right with us… and then nothing. No one ever came. We waited over 20 minutes… not a single word, not a check-in, nothing. Just ignored. Inside restaurant was completely empty, staff standing around, and no one seemed to care. Walked right past three of them on the way out… not one even looked up. For a place connected to a $700 a night resort… it was honestly embarrassing. Won’t be back.

***RODENT ISSUE*** The food was bad. The restaurant was freezing. And worst of all there was a rodent running around the restaurant! We asked the server to send the manager over. And he knew about it and they were still seating people. He said they put traps out. So this has been an ongoing issue for how long?? The rodent almost ran over our feet
