Service from Elizabeth was amazing - her lovely touch did our night Love the Mai Tai - good strong traditional one Catch of the day was superb …. And the Hawaiian Ahi was really good too Don’t doubt - try it
We thoroughly enjoyed the Eggplant dish - melt in your mouth - best eggplant of my life. Michael was a great server and added to our experience. Only nitpick was my wife got the wrong glass of wine vs what she ordered which we discovered at the bill so it was overcharged.
Wonderful. Thanks for a great birthday dinner. Went with the greek goddess salad and the Carbonara. Wow - delicious. Enjoy the flavors 5 stars
Wonderful food and service! Elizabeth was a wonderful server, very friendly and patient with our indecisiveness. Entrees were well portioned and flavorful, sides were fresh and excellent quality. View at sunset is beautiful, staff is very friendly. Will return!
Enjoyed a lovely meal while watching the sunset. Donna and Marvin were both great and made dinner even more special. We ordered the octopus and crudo appetizers. Both were delicious. The rib eye was fine but overcooked. Stick to the seafood if you plan to dine here!
Rome Meets the Pacific: A Revelation at Meridia There is a specific kind of bravery required to order Carbonara on a tropical island, especially when you are dining with your mother-in-law and your palate is still vibrating from a trip to Italy just a month ago. We had recently dined at a prestigious "Tre Gamberi" trattoria in Rome, so our skepticism was high. We expected a heavy, cream-laden resort interpretation. We were wrong. Under the guidance of Chef Soto, the Carbonara here is not just an imitation; it is an act of alchemy. It is a Roman-meets-Norcia masterpiece—a glossy, golden emulsion of egg, cheese, and guanciale/pancetta, elevated by the earthy whisper of truffle. We were seated at a gorgeous table near the cove often frequented by sea turtles (tartarughe), making this a perfect moment of enjoying a tartufata near the tartarughe. It was, without hyperbole, as good as what we had in Italy. The rest of the meal followed suit in a dizzying display of technique. The Japanese scallops were silken and precise, tasting of the clean, cold ocean. And do not let the whimsical name of the "Poi-cotta" deter you. What sounds like a kitschy pun is actually a dessert of haunting texture and depth—far more compelling and sophisticated than its charming title suggests. Chef Soto visited our table after the meal, his passion for these ingredients palpable. Meridia has always had the view; now, finally, it has the soul to match.
Amazing food and service! Try to make a reservation as there might be a conference at the hotel that has the restaurant booked up. In our case we got in easily and they gave us the table with the best view. Highly recommend trying the Trio Crudo as we ate it in about 30 seconds. Bacon wrapped dates were salty and sweet and a perfect filler. Mushroom risotto was so rich, I’m glad we shared the dish as I have no idea how I would have finished it! This restaurant is so tasty and high quality, I recommend splitting dishes to try as many as possible. I could have gone back every night of our trip!
The finest meal we’ve ever enjoyed in our entire life. The perfect way to celebrate 30 years with the finest woman I’ve ever known! Thank you, Chef Peter - Your skill and artistry (and that of your staff) are second to none. Elizabeth your service was also excellent, informed, and downright fun! The teams passion for quality and consistency speaks volumes to your collective dedication and professionalism. The food was absolutely perfect in every way - freshness, preparation, texture, flavor, aromas, presentation… all of it perfect and utterly enjoyable. Keith and Brad, we cant thank you enough for your hospitality and sharing such an amazing experience with us!! This whole experience was ALOHA, pure ALOHA!! Xoxoxo
Within the Westin resort, there’s a fantastic restaurant with bold flavors! We were staying here and wanted to have a celebratory dinner and the views from their patio are stunning. Watching the sunset, eating great food, listening to the ocean, what else do you need? Erin, our server, was so sweet and kind, making you feel instantly at ease. She had great recommendations and details of each dish. We ordered the cataplana, bacon wrapped dates, beet salad and paella. The cataplana and paella have bold, savory, salty goodness from the sausage in each. The chef added sweet baby peppers that we’ve never had before that are delicious, a cross between and sweet cherry tomato and a bell pepper, I hope we can find some within the continental states to cook with! The paella requires a 20 minute cook time and it’s worth it. Probably the best paella we’ve ever had. It’s what you always hope that other paellas will be, but they don’t live up to it. The seafood was perfectly cooked and the crunchy rice at the bottom is worth fighting over. Topping the evening with churros and 3 dips, they were hot, sugary and melted in your mouth, give them a try if you have any room left.
Donna our veteran waitress was amazing and so attentive and knowledgeable about menu. Sunset View was spectacular at out outdoor table. Food was fresh, hot and so tasty! Atmosphere excellent! Highly recommend.
Good food, cocktails, and ambiance. Great service. Higher-end prices though, special occasion type place (for an average person like me). Really good flavors like the truffle lobster flatbread which was a daily special, and very good seafood. My only complaint is since it's an indoor/outdoor space, we kept having to shoo flies away.
Gorgeous setting and great food! Our server took incredible care of us and explained just where all of our food came from. Almost everything was local and some of it was even grown right behind the restaurant! Truly a great dining experience. Be sure to make reservations! This is the only restaurant at the hotel that is more upscale so it does fill up quickly.
10/10 Hands down amazing ! I regret not staying here for our week long stay. We will be back in 6 months with a full hotel review for this Westin. The restaurant blew us away!! The warmth and knowledge Marita , our server ,extended had us feeling we were at home. Just as she welcomed with such warmth she invited us to return soon. She recommended her favorites and answered all our questions, which we had many. Before we started our apps she reappeared with great concern on her face. There’s a food allergy at our table and she needed to triple check on 1 if our dishes. I appreciated Marita being so thorough. Mahalo. The apps, cocktails and entrees were exquisitely presented and the flavors were savory and well balanced.
Great dinner spot. Food was great. Beautiful scenery. Took pictures of most of the food but when the main course got here was so excited forgot to take the pictures. Had rib eye. Hug portions and delicious.
A dear friend and I booked a table at the Meridia on a busy Saturday early evening. We were given a lovely table right on the edge of the balcony with a wonderful view. Our server, Jonathan, was absolutely attentive from the moment we sat down. He took our orders and brought our drinks very quickly. He was knowledgable about the menu and the wines. We ordered a lovely salad and the bacon wrapped dates for appetisers, and both were delicious, not to mention the tasty home baked bread that was provided. My friend ordered the mushroom risotto, which was rich and flavourful and absolutely mouthwatering! I ordered the Australian lamb, medium rare, and quite frankly it was the best lamb I have had in any restaurant ever, anywhere in the world! The meat was expertly cooked at the exact temperature and the mint seasoning was gorgeous. The whole experience was top flight, and Jonathan should be commended for his excellent service. Thank you! As a local resident I will hope to be back again and again.
This restaurant was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. The food was as good as it looks! It was legit the best food we ate on my entire vacation. The drinks were tropical and delicious. The views were breathtaking from our table. It's just absolutely beautiful with amazing food and top notch service. Our waiter was very personable and quick. It was our most romantic night in Kona. Everyone should make it a point to try this place. Also, the drive there was a nice, calm, and scenic route.
The service and food were exceptional! Sharen, the acting manager, and our server Angelica provided an unforgettable experience for our first anniversary dinner. They created a beautiful atmosphere with attentive, detailed service. Angelica’s knowledge of the menu was impressive, answering all my questions with ease. Sharen went above and beyond, stopping by our table to ensure everything was perfect and even sitting down to offer personalized recommendations. Their thoughtfulness truly made our evening special—thank you both for making the start of our anniversary trip so memorable!
Everything from hostess to our server Erin was phenomenal. All the staff was very friendly, attentive, and wanted to make our experience top notch. Food from crudo to desert was delicious. Wine selection and drink menu was great. Honestly worth every dollar. Not to mention above everything the setting and ambience was celestial. Truly such a beautiful sunset to night sky elegence.
All of the food was tasty I had the mushroom risotto with extra truffle oil !!! Also enjoyed the Cataplana, dipped the bread in the sauce with a glass of delicious wine from Sicily on the side. Our server was really nice too.
A bit sad we didn’t catch the sunset (might come back just for that), but my wife and I enjoyed a fantastic meal at Meridia. Highly recommend the mussels, calamari and short ribs! We were lucky enough to have caught a good ‘catch of the day’- red snapper which was unbelievable! I’m not a fish person, but I thoroughly enjoyed the snapper!
Very good experience. They made a birthday event very special. All the food was good quality. Wish the portions were better but quality over quantity here. Service was excellent and the view was amazing. I highly recommend it. Make sure you get reservations!
Great experience! The food was amazing! Erin was such a good server, very kind, very sweet! ❤️ You need to try it out!
I postponed booking this resort restaurant (we are staying at the Westin), opting for restaurants in nearby communities. We decided to grab dinner (and got a reservation) at Meridia tonight. It was SO good. Our kids for the "chefs menu" - $15 for entree, drink, and dessert and loved it (catch of the day was mahi mahi, and the other got the charcuterie plate). We had a series of appetizers and they were SO good. The smoky sausage made the cataplana insanely good. The ahi crisp was fresh and bright, and the shish kabobs were seasoned perfectly. I had the cab franc and it was fabulous. Service was excellent (Rebecca was attentive and warm). We'd love to return and will try to find a reservation during our remaining days here.
The food is fantastic! A refreshing experience from more traditional high-end restaurants in Hawaii with more variety than normal but with excellent ingredients and attention to every detail. For the price of Merriman's the quality of food is superior and you can't beat the sunset views if Hapuna Beach.
Amazing food and atmosphere, great place for a sunset dinner. We celebrated a birthday here and the experience was excellent, can’t say enough about this restaurant and the staff. They were all so great and the food was amazing.
The food, the atmosphere, the setting with the beach and the sunset was stunning. However, the best part of the meal was our waitress Elizabeth.. aka “E”. Her energy, enthusiasm and passion for her job, the restaurant and life in Hawaii was amazing. I highly recommend the restaurant and most of all Elizabeth as your server. 😎
Celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary and received a perfect table for the sunset. Attentive and friendly staff and the food was excellent. It is a beautiful setting on one of the best beaches on the island. Meridia is on par with any of the best Kohala restaurants. Highly recommend.
5 stars from start to finish. The setting and the sunset is fantastic. The food is excellent and the service is great too. High quality Mediterranean food.
The food here is amazing! The staff is stellar. The bartender is creative and the chef is always looking for creative, innovative ways to serve amazing food. We have been coming here for over 9 years and absolutely live this place!
Really enjoyed our dinner at Meridia - the food (especially the lamb orzo, beef ragout, and bread pudding), the service, and the beachside views were excellent. Special shoutout to Chef Soto and Elizabeth for a great experience. Highly recommend
We went to Meridia twice during our stay at the Westin and enjoyed it. Michael the first night and Indiana the second night made our experience so special - such friendly, personable, and professional service. Highly recommend the daily special - we loved it both times. Also you can’t beat the views during sunset!
Beautiful atmosphere! Food was delicious and tasted fresh. I was happy with the many delicious vegetarian options and my friend enjoyed the seafood. The cocktails were fantastic as well- highly recommend the coconut washed tequila drink. What really made this experience special was the service. Michael was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. It was also truly a pleasure meeting Thor, the manager. He was the one who introduced us to that wonderful tequila drink! Food is on the pricier side- but it is island dining at a resort. I thought price points were fair for the location and quantity of food. The views are also spectacular - recommend booking a reservation for sunset!
Best Mediterranean restaurant on the Big Island. A must stop for en elegant dinner with breathtaking views of the sunset. I’ve never had a better service experience in my life, I have to admit service is top notch! My server Erin was very professional and knowledgeable about the menu which I really appreciate it a lot. I ordered the Carbonara Tartufata and this appetizer took my attention out of all the menu selection. The pasta was fresh made to order and the richness of the sauce is still memorable. Crudo was out of this world, definitely worth the try! The cuttlefish ink Tagliolini with the local Kona shrimp and clams was exceptional, topped with Bottarga zest on top made this dish a 10. Finally for dessert we got the Baklava with white chocolate pistachio cream and ouzo gelato! The manager reached to our table to make sure everything was good, something to at you don’t see often to resorts! Compliments to the chef and all the stuff.
We had an absolutely amazing dinner at Meridia in the Westin Hotel, Kona! Chef Soto’s creations were simply outstanding, and the miso-crusted cauliflower was the best vegetable dish we’ve ever had. Simple, perfect, and beautifully prepared. The vegetables were sourced from the chef’s on-site garden, adding a special touch. The cocktails were creative and refreshing, making it one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a very long time. A truly memorable evening!
We recently ate twice at Merida located in the Hapuna Beach Hotel ion the Big Island of Hawaii. The quality of the food and presentation was absolutely wonderful. We met the new chef from Greece who use to work at Robert Deniro’s Tribecca Grill in NYC. His additions to the menu are innovative and the Paella was the best we’ve ever had. I’d give the restaurant a 5 star review.
Chef Soto, with the gracious help of our wonderful server Elizabeth, delivered a true delight of the senses at Meridia last night. As Greeks—forever drawn to the Mediterranean palate—we were especially moved by dishes rooted in his heritage and inspired by Hawaii’s freshest local ingredients. From the ube panna cotta to the lamb, which made me reminiscent of my yiayia’s cooking, every bite impressed. A quiet mention of our heritage to the manager, Thor, led Chef Soto to join us at the table, where he shared stories of his youth in Greece and the deep dedication behind his craft. He has clearly embraced what makes Hawaii so special. The evening was a beautiful reminder that dining is about far more than nourishment. I couldn’t recommend Meridia more highly—and if you’re fortunate enough to meet the chef behind the cuisine, savor the moment. His vision is clear, heartfelt, and unmistakably reminiscent of home.
We had such an incredible evening at Meridia. Our Server Michael was attentive and informative; the food was excellent. The staff greeted us as we entered, and thanked us as we left. Chef Sotirios joined us at the table for a wonderful conversation and updated us on new happenings at the restaurant. What an evening; simply one of our favorite spots on the Kohala Coast!
Meridia is a very beautiful, intimate restaurant with a glorious view of Hapuna Beach. Sandra in reception is exemplary!! She traversed the extra mile to ensure we received a quieter table and specifically went out of her way to check on us throughout dinner in hopes her curating us by low key dinner neighbors was a success. Sandra is an absolute gem!!! Hence, when I located several bones in my grilled Branzino Seabass she was the first person I communicated with as she is efficient and ultra professional. It was quickly communicated to management and the chef and they kindly took care of the entrée and checked on me after the coughing debacle. The seabass, albeit was tasty and the kobocha squash bisque was delicious, although I might request the Smoked Paprika Pepitas on the side as they are quite pungent. The Meridia team was quite kind in helping curate a meal my spouse could enjoy. The salad was also delicious and the server provided excellent service. Our only constructive feedback would be some guests may prefer a quiet, intimate dinner with minimal conversation with their server. Our server was very kind, extremely energetic and clearly enjoys conveying extensive details about Hawaii, origin of the food and appears to appreciate connecting and talking at length, which is lovely if one is seeking that experience. If one is not, it can be a bit depleting and one finds themselves bracing each time the server returns. It appeared many people surrounding us enjoyed a tour guide server experience, however, we recommend reading the room and the guests to ensure they have the experience they are seeking. We definitely recommend Meridia, it is a lovely experience with tasteful fare and we were extremely pleased we chose this location over The Manta at the Mauna Kea. Sandra was an absolute stand out and truly made our experience. Thank you, Sandra!!!
Amazing setting with stunning views of the sunset. That alone makes it worth it. Food is good, but not as amazing as you would expect for the price point. The fresh bread is a nice touch. Service was okay. There also was a piano player which was another nice touch. Overall we had a good time here!
We had the best and most enjoyable anniversary dinner tonight. The sea bass and green goddess salad was amazing! Try it! The only thing I would say to make the experience over the edge would have been if they had live music. A piano player would really have set the mood and made it incredible. Please consider my feedback. You have the opportunity to make everyone’s experience a 5 star!! Live music is a must! Thank you to the chef and staff for an incredible anniversary dinner/evening.
Was here to celebrate my anniversary - perfect sunset view & good food. I’d give 4.5 if google allowed. We had the frito misto and beet & tomato salad as appetizer - portion was bigger than expected. Frito misto was a bit soggy but it was fine as aoili complement it well. We had lamb rack & scallop as our main, both cooked perfectly well. Again, portion was bigger than expected. I had to pack half of the lamb to go. FOH staffs were nice & friendly. They gifted us a complimentary anniversary dessert. The only thing that I found very unpleasant was FLIES. They were everywhere once drinks & food were served. In addition, food served very fast. Our mains were served while we were still half way through our appetizer.
It's a beautiful spot above the pool and near the ocean, but the wind can sometimes be a little annoying (like having to grab your wine glass if a gust tries to blow it over). The service was good and so was the food, although we thought the appetizers and salads were better than the mains.
Great food at the Westin Hapuna Beach Hotel. We had the foie gras, chicken empanada, trio crudo. Our favorite was the grilled branzino. Try the churros dessert with chocolate dulce de leche and coconut cream dip. The rustic bread with oil n balsamic vinegar is also delicious.
Setting was stunning, watching the sunset over the ocean was just perfect. The food was overall okay, the scallops entree was a highlight. Otherwise we found that the food generally trended salty.
If you’re not a regular, don’t expect the same level of service. Our server seemed rushed when speaking with us, yet spent a generous amount of time chatting with other tables. We weren’t guided through the menu, and no one checked in on how we were enjoying our meal. We eventually requested extra bread because it was phenomenal, but it never arrived. On the bright side, the sunset views are truly stunning, and the fish of the day was full of flavor and a definite must-order. You can’t beat a fresh, local catch. The ribeye was good, though slightly dry, and the wine was bold and perfectly paired with our meal. While some tables were receiving hugs and bottles of wine, our experience felt like an afterthought. This restaurant is located within the Westin Hapuna Resort, and offers both valet and self-parking. Reservations are a must, just be aware that the experience may vary depending on who you are and how often you visit.
The setting and atmosphere is really stunning. You can watch the beautiful sunset while enjoying your food. Food- shrimps and bread are good. All food was tooooo salty especially the seafood paella. Service - the front desk lady was extremely rude and arrogant. I asked for a take for four and she pretended that she was shocked and did not understand what I said. She directed the waitress to lead us to the table, and to my surprise, they gave us 4 Korean menus. She just thought we were Koreans (even though we are not) without bothering to ask.
Beautiful location. Friendly but very slow service Ordered the octopus. So rubbery. Came out 40 minutes after we ordered it. We could not eat it. The branzino redeemed it. So tasty and flavorful. The salad accompaniment was delish. Also enjoyed the short ribs. Very good. If it weren’t for the wait and inedible first course it would have been fine.
The food is solid but the timing of the service feels really rushed for a nice restaurant. Drinks weren’t coordinated with entrees - not even close. Also we ordered some Iberian ham that was just cut in the worst way (thick and sloppy). Such a waste. Not worth the cost, IMO unless they resolve the front of house issues.
This was the last dinner of our trip. There were 6 of us…4 adults and 2 kids. We were really excited as the menu looked amazing and the views spectacular. I have to say the staff was awesome. Obviously trained well and very friendly. Service was very attentive and they paid special attention to our boys. Once food was ordered it took a very long time to get appetizers. Drinks flew out quickly, assuming my to get us to drink more while we waited forever for food. To their credit they did try and get our dinner order right after ordering apps, but the adults wanted to wait to see how full we were as we oftentimes will split a meal if the appetizers were filling. This was a huge mistake. Appetizers took about 20 minutes to come out. The ravioli fantastic. The frito misto had very fishy calamari but the shrimp were tasty. The garlic shrimp had 3 full shrimp but were lacking flavor. Fairly bland but cooked well. We then ordered meals to split. My mother in law and father in law ordered the fish special Monchong(spelling?) the filet was about 2.5”x 2.5” no joke. This was $71! My wife and I ordered the ribeye to split. I do t know what kind of steak this was but it was very thick, like a sirloin without the traditional marbling or ribeye cap that holds all the flavor and juiciness. It must’ve been the very think eye of the ribeye. It was medium when I requested medium rare, tough, and flavorless despite having a bacon jelly on top. Potatoes were pretty damn good though. The entrees took 45 minutes to come out. Unacceptable. Here’s the kicker and something that will make me NEVER come back unless they attempt to try and make things right. The prices on their website were much lower than on the menu. Deception #1. Deception #2 was the included 18% gratuity. I’m sure it was in the fine print somewhere but the server never mentioned it. I was so annoyed with the time that I had my card ready and had him run it without checking the line items. My bad. I added 20% to the $500 bill 😳but thought it seemed odd so I checked the line items to find the 18% already added. Thank goodness I caught this as he would’ve been tipped ~38%. For context we also ordered 2 Mai tais, 2 glasses rose and a glass of Chardonnay. We brought our own bottle of red and they waived the corkage fee, which was nice. But $500 after the auto tip, for mediocre food, and 2 couples splitting is atrocious. I should have complained about the food at the time, however I figured it would take another 45 minutes for them to fix and it or ably still would have taken forever to come out. The views were nice. The music terrible. Mount music between the piano bar music. No Hawaiian ambiance for music at all. Worst meal of the trip. My wife said she would rather have the pizza and salad from Kona brewing company h than ever eat this places food again. We felt deceived, over charged, and absolutely let down by this experience, especially since we were taking my wife’s parents out to a “nice dinner” to thank them for letting us stay at their property on the big island. I’m sure they will be sharing this poor experience with their friends as well. Going to post this same review on google reviews and trip advisor because I do t want anyone else having this terrible experience.
Decided to spend Valentine’s dinner here and was very disappointed. They were out of several dishes, service was not friendly or good. Would not recommend this place, the pizza at Piko another restaurant/bar on site) was much better!
