Delicious authentic mexican food! I had lunch special #8.
Dined here this evening for the first time with my fiancé. Great experience overall. Great service, food was fresh and very tasty. We even had a coupon for free churros from the mail and used it with no problem! I had steak fajitas and she had tacos herself. We also got cheese dip, was good! This is I’ll be a go to spot for sure.
One of my new favorite places to eat in KC. The choriqueso is extraordinary and pairs nicely with the street tacos for a yummy meal with leftovers. I wish the salsa were chunky but it’s still deliciously saucy. Highly recommend!
The food is absolutely amazing and the staff is so friendly. We try to visit the restaurant every chance we get. So happy to have this option in Brookside.
I am so glad that Muy Caliente moved into the neighborhood! The food is amazing, made from scratch, flavorful, and comforting. We like to sit at the bar to chat with the owner or staff—so friendly. W my husband and I are trying a different thing from the menu each time we come—everything has been great and they keep adding more! Love this place!
Food tasty and generous portions. Group of 6 and we all loved our meals. Service is not so great. Meaning they could be more attentive. Forgot our drinks. Took too long for easy things like napkins or water refill. Didn't clear away used dishes so there wasn't table room for our meal. Food good. Service slow. Needs improvement.
I've been here twice. Both times with a group. Great food, attentive service, and accuracy of who got what. Drinks were refilled on time, before they ran out. Smiles, kindness, and good music all around. Made for a good time eating and celebrating. I had the Steak Fajita, it was so much for me that I had another meal at home, both times. I am definitely bringing my wife here. Parking is covered or outside, your choice, as there is a two-level parking garage shared with an office building, just to the west. Safe parking as it is well lit. ADA entrance from the patio adds to the inclusiveness of this restaurant.
Great service from Marisol! The street tacos were perfect and just the right amount for dinner. Great a big beer and spicy mango marg! We’ll be back!
Muy Caliente is Muy Caliente! 🌶️ Chips and salsa? On point. Super light salsa, super fresh chip. I went with the flauta plates—something not so traditional for me—and they were nice surprise. Beans and rice were a hit! Coolest part? Two things. 1. Dog friendly patio! 2. You can grab a beer in Brookside (outside of any needed happy hour) for under four bucks. $3.85 for domestic, imports still under five. Had a Modelo Especial, chips and salsa, and a wonderful (filling) entrée—for 20 bucks. Welcome to the neighborhood, Muy Calient!
We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday and had a pretty good experience. Ordered a house margarita and paloma and they were nice and strong. Didn’t really love the mild salsa, it was a little too heavy on the tomato paste side for me. The carne asada street tacos were so tasty, and the pork with hot red sauce was great too (it really was muy calient). Looking forward to trying it again; will get the street tacos next time.
New place in the neighborhood we checked out a few days ago for dinner. I cannot say enough good things about Muy Caliente. The food was delicious, the service was prompt, attentive and friendly, and the restaurant was very clean. I will definitely be back. I want to try other dinner items, and try their lunch menu. The margaritas were good, not too sweet and not too heavy on the booze. They're still doing their soft opening, so their website and online reservations aren't available yet, but I'm sure they'll get that sorted out.
I stopped by Muy Caliente in Brookside and I’m so glad I did! The food was really good, and the drinks were just as great. You can tell they put a lot of love into the menu. The atmosphere is fun but still welcoming—it already feels like a spot you want to come back to. For being only their second week open, everything felt smooth and the staff was so friendly. I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. This place is going to be a my new favorite place in Brookside!!!
My Fiancé went for dinner 2/12/2026. Our first time. Server was Ruth. Service friendly, and efficient. Food presentation was excellent. My fiance had the giant burger, came on a giant platter took up most of the table. Came with fires ,peppers, and three different sauces, ( ranch, hot salsa, guacamole sauce) all were good. I had the trio fajita burrito it was large and filled with steak, chicken, shrimp, refried beans, peppers, onions covered with cheese and red salsa. Food was good. I was disappointed the seasoning was a little bland for me but it was definitely stuffed full if food. The Mango margarita was brain freezing and tasty. ($13.00).We will try it again. Nice atmosphere 👌.
Great neighborhood option for Mexican food. Margaritas were good (and pretty strong), cheese dip delicious! They kept the chip baskets full, and service was attentive and friendly. Food was good, nothing particularly stand out, but exactly what you expect. Food was hot, portions were generous, and prices were reasonable. We will definitely go back.
First visit was good. It was Tuesday, but we were seated and waited on immediately. Food came out fast and hot. Street tacos and my husband's burrito were great but the salsa needs help. My husband said it tasted too much like catsup. We asked for a hotter version but that one didn't have a good flavor even though the added heat helped. Service was excellent. Also the restaurant still looks too much like an Irish bar and not a Mexican restaurant. I give the place a solid B but with minor tweaks it'll become an A.
Really enjoyed the food - pork tamale, beef taco and veggie quesadilla. It was delicious - dare I say better than the nearby competition? But service was iffy - I’ll chalk it up to a learning curve. That salsa needs some help y’all! We’ll be back no doubt.
I loved the tamales I got. The masa was tender and the pork seasoned. The sauce on top was delicious! My husband got 3 different street tacos that were good. The salsa was not very good, like tomato sauce. It was about average.
Ok I have mixed reviews. I’ve been here twice. First time was really good and was excited about having this in the neighborhood. Took the family on Friday night and was very disappointed. The guac was in a tiny serving bowl and was $9. The queso was lukewarm and also tasted terrible- nobody in our family at it. It was $10 for a small bowl. So we spent $20 on apps that were not awesome. The meals were Ok. The reason it still got 3 stars: the atmosphere was fun and the margarita was very good and very generous size at a great price. I might try one more time but will avoid the apps as they were a huge disappointment. The meal for 4 of us was $100 which feels extremely expensive for a Mexican restaurant in KC as we have some great Mexican food here for much less.
The food was mid and the drinks were worse. They got our order completely wrong and it took a long time to redo when it wasn’t that busy. Also, if you’re looking for vegetarian options, there are none. Most places at least have a bean toatado or taco de papa on the menu. They have nothing. The staff was nice but didn’t really know a lot about what was going on with the drink menu. The margaritas are the typical green bottled mixer. So, if you’re looking for good drinks, this isn’t it. The food is as expected for a mid-class Tex mex restaurant.
My beans were cold. My tacos were missing the usual toppings. The chips were hard. Salsa was so so. I ordered a margarita and they served it to me in a budlight plastic cup. This place looks fancy . They could do way better in many areas. It took almost 30=40min to get our food. We came at 5pm. It was not crowded. It was 6pm before we got our food. I didnt send my plate back to the kitchen. We had someplace we needed to go. I had heard great things about this place. I was very disappointed.
Wow...that was bad. Ordered takeout. A simple taco salad with steak. I got literally 5 pieces of undressed lettuce with a pile of grilled onions and peppers on top with 5 pieces of gristly steak. I didn't think it was possible to screw up taco salad. Never again
I was really excited to try this place as my parents who live close had been there several times, and enjoy the food. Also, glad that there is something better than Jalapeno's and Brookside Barrio. I wanted to like this place, but there was too much to overlook. Firstly, the service was absolutely awful. All the waitress had to say was that they were understaffed and acknowledge this, a simple "pardon the delay, we are short-staffed" etc. That would have been sufficient as I am more than understanding. The food, was okay- though excessively smothered in cheese. Also, the green onion or scalions gotta go! Eso no es cocina mexicana- my order was wrong. The iced tea was water- they did re-brew. I am open to give them another chance- hopefully they will see this message and improve.
With the classic plastic Coke cups, pictures on menu, and plentiful portions, this restaurant attempts to take shape as a comfort food zone to those seeking a night out or a family dining experience. Unfortunately, the intended atmosphere is sabotaged by the uninspired design of decor, from the AI generated logo to the strobing color lights beneath the bar. The food, while plentiful and priced sensibly, fails to comfort at all. Comfort food this is not, only a drunk person could find any comfort with watery salsa, bland guac, and overly smothered entrees. Although if getting drunk is your goal, you may find success with the 32oz drafts at less than $7. Quoting my wife, “I’d rather eat at Taco Bell”
