Beautiful refuge facing Lake Cancano, friendly staff, good food
We passed through here during our 27th stage of the Sentiero Italia from Bormio to the Alpe Mine refuge. We had a great breakfast to fuel our efforts for the 42km planned route. Thanks for your hospitality. @Libero_Sentiero.
Cancano lakes: beautiful. Plenty of options for bike, hiking, and bus tours. The refuge is lovingly cared for, evident in many details. A lovely little room in the adjoining cottage, excellent bike storage; the shared bathroom (with a heater) was no problem. Delicious homemade cakes; a good dinner, and an excellent, extensive breakfast buffet. We also enjoyed the good music. Lots of information for our itineraries from the very welcoming hosts.
I stopped today, the place was clean, the staff were very friendly and quick to serve, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. I took a double first course and so I tasted two first courses instead of one, they were very good, then the polenta and the fantastic gorgonzola. If you pass by, stop by, it's worth it.

We arrived very tired, actually we had no intention of stopping because I didn't know him, it was getting dark, it was drizzling, we went inside, it was warm and there were still 6 people having dinner... we were struck by the atmosphere, the fireplace with the embers, the smell of burnt wood, the gentleman arrives, a wonderful person, he explains to us how things are, he shows us the room after which he invites us to have dinner where, messed up with a good wine and typical dishes, he filled us with joy.

The Rifugio Ristoro Monte Scale is an excellent stop for those visiting the Cancano Lakes and the Fraele Towers. The atmosphere is simple, with a beautiful panoramic terrace offering a beautiful view of the valley. The restaurant offers typical Valtellina dishes, authentic and well-prepared, with generous portions and average prices for the area. The service is friendly, making the stop pleasant. A good place to stop for those seeking a break surrounded by nature, tranquility, and local flavors. The starting point for the Cancano Lakes: just outside, in front of the A2A building, you can take the shuttle to the Val Fraele refuge for €2. From there, you can also take other shuttles to easily tour the lakes. Alternatively, you can walk. A positive experience!
Clean and welcoming place. Extremely friendly service. Excellent food (the pizzoccheri are delicious). I would have liked to see a few more dishes besides polenta and mushrooms for non-omnivorous diets.
We really enjoyed the food and the service, especially after a challenging bike ride.

We came for coffe and cake. The service was quick but not to welcoming Cake was a bit dry. Coffe was ok No competition around:)
