Avis sur Gillray's Steakhouse London
Superb exp last night! spes it’s our first dinner in london! We were at Gillrays steakhouse and bar last friday night. I’ve emailed them beforehand that if it’s possible I want a windowtable with the view of the water and bigben ..and a travel pram space since our 6month old will be joining. They are very accomodating! Got everything i’ve asked for the food was great!, tried both flat iron and sirloin..made it the way i want my steak! everything were big serving.. I was actually surprised wth that.. spes with sides! had loaded chips with truffles and the mushrooms.. we ended up sharing coz its too much. oh and they even made a special dessert saying happy anniversary! Loved their baked øysters as a starter! its my fave.. the ambiance there is very classic and elegant but not intimidating. It’s inside Marriott hotel so it is nice! they even gave my baby a teddybear and a balloon when they found out that it’s his first itl.trip. It was very sweet. They have number of choices in their drinking menu aswell.. they have good wine selections, cocktails and mocktails. Chatgpt didnt failed me ths time with this recommendation. I was really satisfied last night 🤎 all the staff were kind and smiling all the time! Very accomodating and lovely people specially Nira, Thomas and Paulo! took their names coz they really did a good job! Fantastic experience 10/10!!🤎🥰 Definitely going back again!
A beautiful space with amazing atmosphere. Best to make a reservation to avoid any awkward interactions at the entrance. The bar was excellent with an amazing barman giving top level service while I waited for my table. I had the dry aged rib eye and grilled lobster, both were remarkable. The service from our waitress was always on point, never rushed. Quite content with my experience, its pricey but I would pay for that steak any day.
Grabbed dinner here and I have to say I was impressed. I ordered the ribeye steak with rosemary potatoes and green beans, and it was absolutely fantastic. The steak was cooked to perfection and very tender, the potatoes were nicely cooked and not overpowering, and green beans had a hint of garlic in a butter. The steak was extremely flavourful and really didn’t need the red wine sauce that I had ordered. The Caesar side salad was delicious, and brownie dessert fresh and just out of this world. The staff were very courteous and polite, very attentive yet overwhelming, and service was efficient. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the Thames and definitely one of the best hotel restaurants over ever eaten in — in fact, you wouldn’t think you were in a hotel with the quality and flavour of the food. I would eat here again without question.
We had breakfast at this restaurant while staying in the hotel and we really liked it. The food was delicious, the staff were all friendly and the place itself looks really nice and comfortable. We were there for four days, and Georgiana served us every morning. She was super kind and always made sure we had everything we needed. Really appreciate her
We had a wonderful experience at Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar! The service was absolutely excellent — the team was very attentive and friendly. They even helped us with our baby stroller, which we really appreciated. A special thanks to Georgiana for her thoughtful and caring service — she truly made our visit memorable. Five-star service in every way! Highly recommended.
Gillray’s is amazing! The view of the Thames and Westminster is wonderful, and the cocktails are even better. We came a little too late for afternoon tea (they stop serving it at 5:00), so we split the hot honey chicken sandwich and had a few drinks. My husband just had a beer, but I tried the Temperance cocktail and absolutely LOVED it! I ended up drinking (3) of them!!! I definitely recommend this place. The chairs and atmosphere are very cozy and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and efficient. We will be coming back for sure!
Beautiful, peaceful environment. When you walking the smell is delightful 😊 Staff were all so polite and friendly. Service was amazing, even my latte felt like a real treat. The meal in the restaurant was 10/10, the presentation was great, the food was such a pleasure to eat. Nothing felt like to much for the staff.
Came here last month for my graduation lunch. We ordered from the lunchtime butcher's menu, which is good value. Food was delicious and the cocktails were very nice too. Staff was attentive and welcoming throughout, and the complementary congratulatory dessert was a great touch (and tasty!) Will keep this place in mind for future special occasions. Big thank you to the staff for such a lovely experience!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar in London, and it was an unforgettable experience! The ambiance was classy and inviting, making it perfect for a special occasion or a relaxed night out. The highlight, of course, was the food—absolutely top-notch. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the sides complemented each dish wonderfully. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, providing excellent service throughout the evening. The views of the Thames were also breathtaking, adding to the overall experience. Whether you're a steak lover or looking for a memorable dining experience in London, Gillray's definitely delivers. Highly recommend it!
Steaks were cooked perfectly (medium rare & medium), sauce had a lot of flavor and sides were good. The service at this restaurant was top notch. Plenty of beverage offerings but we stuck to sparking and still water. Would definitely recommend eating here. Great cozy atmosphere and tables were spaced out enough to give privacy if needed.
Saw the promotional poster by the River Thames and went in without expectation for a late lunch. Food was spectacular, environment is very nice and welcoming. Tartar was impressive the way they add the egg yolk. Very friendly staff. Great value of money to spend an hour there. Will definitely come again.
Came to Gillray’s for lunch because I saw a sign for £15 steak and chips and it was totally worth it! The ambiance of the restaurant is fabulous and the views are lovely. The service I had was outstanding as well and then my steak and chips were delicious. Very happy to discover it on my walk and would highly recommend it.
Beautiful dining room. Food was of a high standard throughout. Plenty to choose from. We had 2 courses and personal favorites where the "mac and cheese chips". Certainly a special occasion place, with stunning views and a classy atmosphere.
Amazing cuisine. Totally recommend the sirloin on the bone. Must have the bone broth brûlée - it will surprise you. Great view of the Thames.
Everything here was phenomenal today! The service, people, drinks, food and all! This was a truly special experience today that will make good memories for us and we’d be back! Highly recommend coming here and the bartenders are on point!
Refined, elegant, tasteful and delicious. A classy London restaurant awaits anyone looking for a view and a great meal - from small bites and cocktails to lobster and steak. Exquisite dining experience and elite service with a spectacular view. Thank you Gillray’s - we will be coming back all the time.
We were very hungry after hours of walking around London and completing the London Eye trip. This was the first restaurant we came across so decided to try it out. The place looks classy with great views of River Thames and Westminster. I tried their rib eye steak while my wife ordered the trout. Prices are on the higher side. We paid around £160 for 3 persons but the quality of food is top notch. A lunch to remember.
Tucked on the second floor of the County Hall, this gem of a restaurant is hidden away from the hustle and bustle at street level, yet it’s surprising not crowded when we visited just after peak lunch hour. Prices are reasonable given the location. Do ask them about the £15 steak and fries promotion which isn’t on the menu. The service staff are very helpful snd attentive. Highly recommended.
A lovely experience as I attempt to gently and gracefully ease my way back into dining out. Absolutely relaxed, unpretentious hospitality and atmosphere. The Luxurious architecture, inside and out, complements the restaurants widow views, of Westminster, parliament and the River Thames. brilliance all round. Family oriented, yet idea for singular persons (as myself) for couples. With Best Regards Humbly and respectfully Tolive Dufeal (She/Her & They/Them) (*1 Corinthians 9:22) (To the weak I became weak, in order to gain the weak. *I have become all things to people of all sorts, so that I might by all possible means save some.) God Save The King! (& Queen) (1Kings: 1-53)
The services was lovely. Although I didn't order a full meal I was delighted with what I ordered. The chill fried squid was delicious, fresh and perfectly prepared. I would go back for this dish alone. My sticky toffee pudding was not overly sweet. I would have preferred to pour my own sauce. However, because it wasn't swimming in sauce I was able to take what I wanted and leave the rest. My friend ordered the chcolate chop brownie. If you ave a rich dark chocolate palette you will love it! I would suggest eating it with two other people. The staff was very friendly and adequately attentive. I will certainly come back for the full dinner service and possibly afternoon tea.
Great place with amazing views over the river. The food was amazing and the staff were amazing. Its located up a staircase next to the London Aquarium. We visited lunchtime on a Saturday and it was really quiet.
Lovely!!! It’s gorgeous Restaurant with a fancy environment. With an stunning view of the London Eye, this place turns into a MUST GO in London. And the food… Oh, the food it’s incredible tasty! And All of this combined with a great staff crew.
Gillray's was brilliant. The location of the restaurant is in the old County Hall full of elegant decor and steeped in history. The staff were very attentive and we were not rushed at all. From every table you have a view of the Thames, Big Ben and other iconic sites along the Thames. The ambience was fantastic, you are not crowded in. It was my daughters 18th and the staff made a lovely fuss of her making sure she was the guest of honour. The food was stunning and beautifully presented. The value was excellent with a set menu plus cocktail for £30. We will definitely be back and would fully recommend it,
Absolutely great. From the building, to the food, to the service to amazing views. (Go out into the 'smoking area') for pretty night views. Will be back for sure. Management I hope you are so proud of the staff they were incredible.
Lovely atmosphere in terms of dining room. Friendly staff. Tasty dishes but could be improved to match the elegance of the hotel. Overall, nice place for light bites and drinks. I have had their steak before too, which is their speciality.
Lovely restaurant with excellent views. Menu is good, quality of food was excellent. Pricing is pretty much in line with London pricing. Side order portion sizes are excellent and quality very good. We opted for wedge starters, I had a rump steak main and my guest the Yorkie Club. We had mushrooms (excellent), chips and salad on the side (with all that meat it helps to have something green!) I had the bread and butter pudding dessert which was genuinely delicious. Service was fine. Perfunctory. A tiny bit slow (had theatre after and was a tad nervous). I'd like to note that I always ask for the service charge to be removed. I am anti forced tipping and woild encourage others to do the same and leave a cash tip if the service was good (which we did on this occasion). The more people push back on this the more likely the practice will come under control.
Steak was really chewy but when mentioned it, it was removed from our bill. Desert was amazing.
Been here two times, both times the food and the service here did not disappoint. Had the regular menu(rib eye) for the first time, and 3-course set menu(rump) for the second time. Steak were both cooked to ordered and succulent. Most of the starters were mediocre(poached pear, mixed vegetable soup, and fried mackerel), except for the duck liver pate which looks very normal but was surprisingly delicious and flavorful. Deserts were good overall, but if you want something refreshing don’t pick the chocolate tart, but choose the lemon posset. It’s got a really nice and well-decorated bar. Where you can enjoy both the view of House of Parliament through windows and your drink at the same time. Really nice restaurant with great ambiance and spacious between tables. Definitely will recommend this place to my friends. PS. The staff training definitely needs some improvements. Our waitress did not know their kitchen served soup and had to ask others for information. Sometimes they even forgot our requests.
This commercial steakhouse at the base of the London Eye offers gorgeous, high-end ambiance, but unfortunately, the steak was underwhelming. The steak was hot, but the plate was cold—a basic misstep for a high-end restaurant. While the restaurant wasn’t busy, the staff was inattentive. I had to go up and retrieve my own dessert, which had been left sitting for about 10 minutes. Overall, it was a decent experience, mainly thanks to the location and stunning views. My advice: skip the steak and just enjoy a cocktail.
Gillray steak house Located at the heart of Westminster. With views from London eye, thames - that has the Uber boat etc. The steak house is located Inside of london Marriott county house. With this restaurant, reservations is the only way to get in. I’ll try not to talk about the architecture because words don’t describe it The food was fantastic, I had the pork ribs and salt and vinegar chips . Very filling but hey it had to because it didn’t come cheap. The waiters were polite and helpful and the food didn’t take a lot of time. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any “hold belle” bread. For those who don’t know- “hold belle” meal is that bread they serve before your order arrives. I really wanted to have desserts but was very underwhelmed by the options available. I really think the desert could be better Overall it’s 7/10. Very bougie . A nice cozy environment for a date, proposal, any thing that doesn’t involve kids running around or crying. Love it and would love to revisit ( when I have extra pounds to spend - which I doubt would happen anytime soon)
The food was good but there were too many mistakes. The steaks were delicious and exactly how we ordered them. They took a slightly longer time but still relatively reasonable. Price was an average London steakhouse cost. However, although the waiters were polite, they made many errors such as forgetting to switch cutlery and plates, therefore leaving our table flooded with things and mixing up orders, serving us food we didn’t order and getting a replacement wrong. At least they compensated us for it. Overall, not the best and a slightly worse performance than last time, however I think they just messed up this time. I think they will improve over time though.
Nice staff, lovely room and view. But such poor coffee. A so called ‘flat white’ from a nespresso machine made with too hot, semi skimmed milk. Rubbish! It should be not too hot, whole milk, two shots. Carefully steamed. There is so much good coffee in London now, they should really train their staff better. Oh and £8.44 per coffee. Stings a bit. I’d love them to fix this because it’s a nice place.
The food was great and good value on Groupon. But service was so slow. We booked the table at 12. Didn’t get any menu as we bought Groupon deal we didn’t get a chance to see the menu so not bother order starter or anything else. There was private group came after us but they got the food right away. They prepared all the food for them first. We had to wait 45 mins for the food.
Access to the restaurant from a discrete notice just before the Aquarium (if coming from Westminter Bridge) then up a lot of steps (it may be better via the hotel but this was not obvious) into a bar area with a crescent shaped dining room to the left. We were part of a group and had plenty to chat about, but others might have found service a bit slow. Having placed our orders, taken with some care, it was disappointing that dishes had to be called out and arms waved to get the right one! Whilst the main dishes were fine, the triple cooked chips did not seem popular with many. My salad starter was tasty and interesting but one person seemed have got missed off the order and had to wait a while for his. My unusual rum based cocktail at least tasted as though it had some of the advertised spirit in it, unlike some I have had! The room is very attractive but possibly not as a dining area. The wooden floor and wall panelling, combined with the high ceiling, made it very noisy and conversation difficult even though tables were well separated. I was shewn politely to the toilets, but irritated to find them labelled “Restrooms”. The staff were willing and friendly but seemed to lack a little co-ordination as different people arrived to take the same order. And they were a bit enthusiastic in clearing plates while some people were still eating. At least they seemed to be enjoying their jobs! By definition, in a tourist hot spot, it was not going to be cheap but for around £100 a head, including some alcohol, I would have hoped for a more professional experience. I would suggest you visit the bar, get much better views, and give the restaurant a miss.
1hr for food to come out and the forgot the sides. Another 30 for sides. No one check on us the whole time. All items sold separately.
Came here for breakfast. We were met with attentive service and a very pretty and welcoming ambience. With such an entrance we had high hopes. We ordered the eggs Benedict and the continental breakfast. The continental breakfast was ok. The muffins were bland and the fruit wasn't plump and delicious. It felt cheap. They used store bought jelly albeit a large collection some of which I had never seen. So we ended up getting some fruit and quark with some bread and eggs. Then bread was very disappointing. My eggs Benedict was also below my expectation. After my first attempt was not cooked correctly the second attempt was completely overcooked. I didn't tell the manager as I didn't want to insult or frustrate him. So I ate it anyway and ended putting my eggs Benedict on bread from the continental breakfast since the bread that came with it was gross. Through all of this the service stayed positive and didn't pressure me one or the other. The check was also wrong when they delivered it. Once we brought it to their attention they fixed it. So sadly we will not be coming back for a while to see if maybe they improve.
It sounds good in the reviews. The pictures look nice. In reality, this is a quaint place with very overpriced food that just isn't that good. There's plenty of other choices within walking distance (I was staying at the Marriott County Hall, so figured I'd try the place on site...). 62£ for a cocktail, chips, and a cheeseburger. Cocktail was good, but not fantastic. Chips were average. Burger wasn't good. Service was perfunctory, and the overall vibe is kinda..."no other choices" . Don't bother.
Disappointing. Went for Christmas dinner. Potatoes were hard, sauce was salty, steak was chewy. Frankly was just shocked that a restaurant making a fixed menu could underperform so badly. Certainly would not be a viable restaurant in my hometown. I assume the popularity of this place relates to the view of the river and the presence of a hotel. Service was fine, atmosphere was fine, but really just shockingly mediocre food and I hate that it reinforced the stereotype that British food is bad. I expected much better. On the upside - it seemed like probably a great place for drinks. Also appreciated that there was a Santa wandering about and giving presents to the kids.
I rarely write reviews, but my recent meal at Gillray’s was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share my experience and formally raise a complaint. Before visiting, I noticed Gillray’s only had a 4-star rating, which I thought was perhaps unduly harsh. Now, I can say that the low rating is entirely justified. Service Issues My friend and I arrived at around 6:30pm, only to be told the restaurant was fully booked, even though there were plenty of empty tables. As we were about to leave, I checked online and found that many tables were available for booking at 15-minute intervals. I immediately booked a table and we returned. The receptionist claimed there was no booking under my name until I showed proof of my reservation. He was visibly reluctant to seat us and insisted we could not have a window table—even though several window tables remained empty throughout our visit. This left us feeling unwelcome and confused as to why the staff would act in this way. Food Quality The main reason I chose Gillray’s was for the pork ribs and because I was in the area. As a regular customer, I expected better. Citrus Grilled Tiger Prawns (£20): The prawns arrived soggy and burnt (very black), with the heads appearing an unappetising colour, suggesting they were not fresh. When I sent the dish back, the replacement was just as poor. I was surprised this dish was served at all, both times. Garlic Fried Squid (£17) and Steak Tartare (£23): Both were merely average, with nothing to justify the price. Bread: I was served plain white bread, while every other table appeared to receive round brown bread (which I later learned was Yorkshire pudding). In my experience, quality restaurants do not serve plain white bread as a starter. The Yorkshire pudding we ordered separately (£5 for 2) was also of disappointing quality—cheap-tasting and uninspiring. The Longhorn (£98): The steak was extremely dry, poorly cut and did not look or taste like the 800g prime steak advertised. I had to point out the problem to the manager, who initially did not see the issue. Only after I insisted did he apologise and remake the steak. The second attempt was excellent—which only raises the question: why wasn’t it served properly the first time? Pan Fried Dover Sole (£65)(see photo): This was recommended by the manager as his favourite dish, in my experience in other restaurant, it meant to be a tender, fresh fish dish. Instead, it arrived dry, greasy and clearly deep-fried rather than pan-fried. I could not eat more than half, as it was far too oily and tasted unfresh. It was salty even though I told the manger less salty in my dish. Grilled Asparagus (£10): The asparagus was not fresh and actually tasted spoiled. The dish was redone twice, but each time the quality remained unacceptable. It appears the kitchen cannot distinguish fresh from spoiled produce. Management Response Throughout our meal, the manager’s only real contribution was to say “sorry” each time something was wrong, without offering any meaningful solution or proactive service. While it’s important to apologise, simply repeating “sorry” without actually addressing the underlying problems does nothing to improve the experience or restore customer confidence. I expect genuine management to take responsibility, ensure quality and demonstrate an ability to resolve issues—not just apologise. This was a thoroughly disappointing and unpleasant dining experience. The seafood in particular was not fresh and the attitude of the staff was unwelcoming and unprofessional. For the prices charged, I expect far higher standards in both food quality and service. The sourcing of ingredients, kitchen practices and the hospitality of your staff were really under performance. I am truly sorry and really unbelievable incredible.
The visit to GrillRay’s restaurant left me disappointed. On a positive note, the Filet Steak and grilled lobster were enjoyable, and the service was excellent. Unfortunately, I ordered and finished the beef tartare alone due to hunger, even though it wasn't very tasty. However, the chocolate sundae ice cream could have been better, and it was served without a red cherry on top. After leaving the restaurant, it took half an hour to reach home. Luckily, I started feeling unwell after arriving home, not in the car, with food poisoning symptoms like vomiting and stomach pain for many hours. I had a fever without medicine until the next day evening, prompting me to seek medical help.
I ordered the Squid and Steak for starter and main. The squid was decent but the steak was terribly underwhelming and charred. This did not measure up to other steak houses, especially at the price point. The service was a little slow but the waiters were friendly. The restaurant was not packed and I imagine they’d struggle if it were any busier. Rating Food: 2.5/10 Drink: 6/10 Service: 4/10 Price: 2/10

I have eaten at Gilray's for dinner several times in the last 10 years and unfortunately I was extremely disappointed with my food and service recently and I'm questioning if I will ever return. After having a reservation for dinner, we were seated and the wait staff barely acknowledged us. We ordered beef filet and the meat was extremely tough and could barely cut threw it with a steak knife. The wait staff completely ignored us and did not even check in with us after our food was delivered. Poor food and Poor service.
