Came here with a table of 10 and had a great time. Huri took care of us all night and did a brilliant job, professional, friendly and genuinely entertaining, which made a big difference for a large group. Food was good and came out smoothly despite the table size. Would happily come back.
My husband and I hosted our post wedding lunch at Grato for 15 people. We had the most incredible time and the food was delicious. Pietro, Sue and the team made the experience even more special. We regularly go to Grato and have found it to be our favourite neighbourhood restaurant in London and it was very special to host our family and our dog here for a post wedding lunch. As usual the food and atmosphere was lovely. The cannoli and espresso martini was a real hit with our families.
We went for dinner here twice, and both experiences were absolutely wonderful! The first time, we started with warm prawns as our starter, followed by pumpkin ravioli, crab tagliolini, and fresh black truffle pasta. Every dish was super delicious — we truly enjoyed the meal from start to finish. For dessert, we had tiramisu, panna cotta, and chocolate mousse with raspberry. Wow! We were so pleasantly surprised by how lovely everything was, from the starters to the desserts, all served with such warm and friendly service. Today, we returned and tried some new dishes — Veal Milanese, affettati Misti and mushroom risotto — and once again, we really enjoyed our meal. Everything was just perfect. Michael was very kind to offer us Sicilian cannoli with chocolate and pistachio, which was a wonderful treat to end the evening. Thank you again! We will certainly be back. So happy to have found this cozy and welcoming Italian restaurant in our area. ❤️
Lovely little Italian spot near High Street Kensington. The food felt really authentic — burrata with pear and orange was such a thoughtful touch, the cod ravioli with prawn sauce was full of flavour, and the truffle tagliolini was rich and comforting (I’m definitely coming back for more!). Pork belly with beans was hearty, and the tiramisu made a perfect finish. Service was warm and attentive throughout. Cozy place, great details, and you can really taste the care in the cooking. Definitely a new favourite in the area!
Had such a lovely evening at Grato! The food was amazing – the burrata with bread was honestly the best I’ve ever had, so fresh and flavorful, my family kept nodding in agreement. We also ordered the pasta specials of the day, which were really tasty (the truffle was a bit strong for me, but still good). What made the night extra special was our server – so kind, warm, and thoughtful. He even surprised me with a dessert and a candle after dinner, which made the evening feel really memorable. Great service, great atmosphere, and food I’d happily come back for. Highly recommend!
The bruschetta + prosciutto arugula starter was very good. Crab tagliolini was delicious! First time I’ve had a pasta that was so much crab flavor. Bolognese was good I definitely prefer the rigatoni pasta. Very classic pasta and very tasty Tiramisu was excellent even though coffee isn’t my favorite I would say I still enjoyed the dessert.
Delectable food, a welcoming ambience, and world class service will quickly make Grato one of your favorite restaurants. We've eaten at many restaurants across the United States and Europe, and Grato is the gold standard to which we compare all others. So much so that we always set aside an evening to eat at Grato whenever we're in London. The knowledgeable staff truly treat you like family, and their wine picks have always been spot on. During our most recent visit, our server, Huri, was absolutely exceptional. His friendly demeanor, knowledge, and promptness were all top shelf. As a fine dining experience, Grato carries itself with a quiet confidence that drops the pretentious trappings of similar establishments and warmly invites you to partake in the culinary experience so thoughtfully crafted by the staff. Whether it's a special occasion or a family meal, travel out to Kensington and check them out!
We received a few recommendations for this spot and were excited to try it. It definitely lived up to the hype! Our server, Huri, was incredibly gracious and welcoming. He made the dinner very enjoyable. The food was wonderful, with many gluten free and vegetarian options (and fantastic tiramisu). It’s rare in London to feel like you’ve found a local, under the radar gem that has nice ambiance and memorable dishes but this one delivered.
We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Grato! From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness. The handmade pasta dishes were superb; every bite was bursting with flavor and beautifully cooked, especially the tagliolini and pumpkin ravioli. The atmosphere is cosy yet lively, making it perfect for a special evening out. Highly recommend this gem in beautiful Kensington Square, we can’t wait to return!
Grato is an absolute gem — everything from the food to the service and atmosphere was flawless. The pasta was fresh and full of flavor, and the burrata salad was perfectly balanced and beautifully plated. Every bite felt thoughtfully prepared with quality ingredients. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere was stylish yet relaxed — great for a date night or a nice evening out with friends. An excellent dining experience that delivers both comfort and refinement. Highly recommend and definitely looking forward to returning!
Pietro is an exceptional restaurateur who brings his Italian heart and talent straight to your plate. The cuisine celebrates authentic, earthy “fatto a casa” dishes, crafted with seasonal, ultra-fresh Italian ingredients that truly honor Italy’s terroir. The atmosphere is just as genuine and welcoming. His wife’s subtle, elegant décor makes the space feel like home, and Pietro himself is always there to greet you, as if you were a friend invited for a meal. From start to finish, you feel transported to Italy, without ever leaving your city.
An absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is genuinely attentive without ever feeling rushed. The food is outstanding and beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. A perfect spot for a relaxed dinner or a special evening. Consistently excellent and highly recommended. We'll be back soon.
Stumbled upon this very cute, cozy little Italian restaurant in the heart of Kensington on a quiet street. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and sat us right away. Service was amazing and the pasta was delicious ! We had the bolognaise and the ravioli! Definitely would recommend.
Best Italian meal - loved the buratta very authentic and the beetroot salad. Our mains were wild mushroom risotto & pumpkin ravioli!!!! OMG so delicious so was Veal & Sea Bream with a delicate flavour - can’t wait to go back. Service was just right very friendly and really cool decor. Reasonable prices for the quality and flavour
From the moment we stepped in, this Italian gem delivered on every front - warm ambiance, incredible food, and hospitality that went above and beyond. We tried the Burrata di Puglia, Spinach Malfatti, Arrabbiata, and Pumpkin Ravioli. They were all absolutely delicious but the ravioli deserves a special mention. We felt transported to Italy. What really stood out was the service. The staff was not only friendly and attentive but also incredibly accommodating of dietary preferences without making it feel like a hassle. Every little detail was taken care of. A special mention to the owner, who personally came over to check in on us and ensure everything was to our liking. Can’t recommend this place enough!
We came here for dinner. I recommend making a reservation unless you go when they first open because they will get busy and it makes sense because the food is delicious and the staff are very nice and helpful. They have a range of wines and drinks and delicious foods. We had the burrata with bread to start. For our main meals we had the handmade pumpkin ravioli and the handmade tagliolini brixham crab. Both we amazing and we unfortunately too full to have dessert. But maybe next time. Price wise you are getting what you pay for. If you’re looking for a delicious Italian restaurant, this is the place!
Lovely little place at the quiet Kensington Square. Service was very professional, knowledgeable and swift. All staff seemed to know what you ordered with someone else or what you were going to have, which is next level. We were a group of 4. We had bruscetta for starters, pure, simple and tasty. Seabass, risotto, pumpkin pasta and a ragusa all had a lot of flavour yet were on the whole quite pure. Size of portions fine. Only one cheese platter, each of which was liked a lot. One tiny detail, perhaps offer limoncello with ice cubes separate instead of together? But all fine. Highly recommended.
We walk past this restaurant all the time and it’s always lively and full, so we finally gave it a try and it absolutely lived up to the buzz. Marco took great care of us and was friendly, professional, and a pleasure to chat with. We started with olives and sourdough bread, both excellent. The rocket, beetroot and goat’s cheese salad was fresh and well balanced. For mains we had the rigatoni bolognese and the black truffle taglioni. The truffle pasta was the standout - simple, fragrant and perfectly balanced. Desserts were fantastic too. The tiramisu was great, but the blood orange polenta cake was the real surprise. Definitely a place we’ll keep coming back to!!!!
Tucked away in Kensington, this wonderful Italian restaurant has the warm, welcoming feel of a true neighbourhood gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with friendly, attentive service that makes you feel like a regular — even on your first visit. The menu offers an impressive variety of dishes, with thoughtful attention to dietary requirements. It’s particularly refreshing to see plenty of excellent gluten-free options that don’t feel like an afterthought. Everything is beautifully prepared and generously portioned. The veal cotoletta is simply not to be missed — perfectly crisp on the outside, tender and flavourful inside. The pastas also look absolutely amazing, each plate arriving at the table looking as good as it tastes. To top it all off, the wine list is very good, with a well-curated selection that pairs beautifully with the food. A true Kensington favourite — relaxed, delicious, and consistently welcoming. Highly recommended.
This is truly a hidden gem in Kensington the food is so fresh and delicious yummy! The white wine Kettiemir sauvignon went perfect with our main courses. Lovely restaurant on a garden square - we sat on this large oak table at the lower level and service was perfect without imposing! Already booked it for next week can't wait.
Hands down our best meal while in London! The place is somewhat small and cozy, but it didn’t feel cramped. Service was top notch. Every course was delicious! We all tried each other’s pasta, and it was honestly difficult to choose a favorite. The bolognese was amazing! The truffle pasta was mind blowing. So much so, I only remembered to take one photo lol. Highly recommend!
There is so much range in what a good meal can be. This type of meal is one of my favorites, fresh and simple; absolutely well sourced ingredients prepared nearly perfectly. One of my favorite Italian meals in a while. Really professional service, lovely atmosphere and warmth. Everything was perfect, that’s really all I can say. Thank you!
One of the best finds in London. Ordered the sea grilled bream and pumpkin ravioli—not too overwhelming and the chef did such a great job of enhancing the flavours of the natural ingredients! Tiramisu was also rich and tasty. Personally, one of the best dinners I’ve ever had. Service was great, very attentive. I’ll definitely be coming back :)
the most amazing Italian i’ve ever had! the staff treats you like family. i highly recommend!!
Absolutely brilliant service from the staff all round. Went for drinks but service was so friendly we stayed for dinner. Risotto is a favourite of mine. The menu change is due soon and the mushroom risotto will be listed. Worth a revisit. The supper clientele later on demonstrated that Grato is a firm favourite with discerning locals.
A neighborhood gem! Lovely husband & wife team operating /managing. Delicious food, excellent service. Plenty of vegetarian options. Be sure to make a reservation as it is a small space and was full on a Wednesday night!
The setting is really nice, the food is delicious. the menu is limited which is a good sign as Philippe Etchebest (French Chef) would say. the dessert the tiramisu is excellent.
To give this restaurant anything below 5 stars should be a crime. The food was heavenly to put it lightly. Everything is wonderfully fresh and flavorful, and the chefs have done some refreshing, creative, but still faithful takes on some classic dishes. Also, our hosts and servers were so wonderful as well, and they really made our time here special. Thanks to the grato staff!
What an absolute delight, stumbled across this place and how lucky we were. Great service, amazing food and terrific atmosphere. Best meal we have had in the UK.
My wife and I found this place by accident. We enjoyed it so much we changed our plans to go back again. The food is outstanding and made with the finest ingredients. The wine was lovely and most of all the staff were wonderful. If you want top quality food in charming settings you will love this restaurant. Grazia
Extremely kind staff, truly caring of their customers' needs and wants. The tiramisù was delicious, just the right size, and delightful to enjoy, spoon by spoon. Just splendid!
This is the best Italian food in London, hands down. Everything on the menu from start to finish is fresh and delicious. The staff is amazing! They’re friendly, and attentive. If you haven’t been here, you’re missing out.
I visited grate’s on Tuesday evening with a group of friends. Renato served us! I was the akward one who only drinks baileys!!! They didn’t have any as it’s a small bar area so he went out and bought me a bottle of baileys!!!! So kind and absolutely not necessary. I had the pumpkin pasta and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had!! Was absolutely delicious. Thankyou Renato we will see u again soon xx
Had a wonderful meal at grato. Authentic Italian food that tasted fantastic. Fantastic service from Huri, catered to our every need.
Absolutely loved this Italian restaurant in London! The atmosphere is super charming, the food is truly delicious and authentic (coming from an Italian, that means a lot!). A special mention to Uriel, who was incredibly kind and professional – he really made the experience even better. Highly recommended and I’ll definitely be coming back!
We had a brilliant pre-theater meal here before going on to the Royal Albert hall. The sharing platter of cured meats was very generous and the wines very tasty. Of course the pasta was the star of the show - 10/10. We'll be coming back!
Grato feels like an upscale neighbourhood restaurant and the staff are charming. I chose a wild mushroom risotto to see how mine stacks up against the professionals. This one exceeded mine. The difference between Grato's and mine is I think the broth. I have been using porcini to make the broth and then l cut them into the wild mushroom mix. The owner said they use porcini for the broth but do NOT add them to the mixture of wild mushrooms. I think there was also more salt than I traditionally use. I will adjust accordingly. I also had the candied beetroot salad with chevre and arugula. It was beautiful to look at and delicious. This is a dish I will seek to replicate.
Great spot for a date night, especially if you can sit outside and enjoy the weather. We started with the burrata, bruschetta, prawn salad and which was perfect for sharing. For mains, we had the vegetarian tomato pasta and the crab pasta both were flavorful, but the crab pasta was the standout. The ragu pasta was also a classic and the pistachio pasta were nice. I also recommend the tiramisu :) Overall, great atmosphere, good service, and delicious food. Would definitely return and happily recommend to others!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The service was not only friendly but also exceptionally attentive. The food was equally good. To top it off, we received complementary lemons limoncello and biscotti, a thoughtful touch that added an extra layer of charm to our meal. In summary, if you're seeking a place with friendly service and tasty cuisine, this restaurant is a must-try.
Fresh dishes. Great menu. As is usual for us, we had to try a lots of dishes! You can get smaller portions of some of the pasta, which gave us a great excuse to have 3 between 2. The crab tagliolini was fantastic! So fresh and flavoursome. I don’t usually like fish pasta dishes but I would come back just for this dish alone! Tiramisu is beautifully creamy and would also recommend the polenta cake! I wasn’t too sure on the pumpkin ravioli, when normally that would be in my top dishes, as the butter tasted a bit sour, but my partner liked it! Thought it could also do with a presentational refresh as those 5 small pieces came to £14, which was more expensive than the bolognese dish! However, they did end up making too much of the bolognese and gave us the larger size - so extra points for that! They also had 2 pasta specials of carbonara and a creamy truffle dish which sounded heavenly, but we didn’t have the space to try them.
Great restaurant in Kensington. Chanced upon an open table and reserved it promptly. Was warmly welcomed by staff, who were all especially hospitable. Food was on point. Meets expectations for the prices charged for sure. Service continued to exceed expectations, highly attentive and able to predict our pace of meals/if we needed drinks/anything else. The food was slightly undersalted to my friend who has a heavier palette but I found it at the perfect level to taste the sweetness of the ingredients. We the vongole pasta was off menu and recommended as a special.
Food is most excellent. Location is in the neighborhood, has locals, reservations are a good idea as the place is cozy. We visit a lot of Italian restaurants as they always have the best wine. The food here was a huge surprise as it was NOT “par for course bland Italian”. All our courses were uniquely tasty and dinner was served hot from the kitchen. The appetizer of warm prawns on top of a cold zucchini spaghetti, avocado, and cherry tomato salad was unique and tasty. We shared two dinner plates. One: the Handmade Tagliolini, Brigham Crab, garlic, parsley, fresh chili, lemon zest. One: Pappardelle pasta with wild boar meat sauce. Both plates were terrific however the Tagliolini plate was most superior in its textures and creamy flavors melted together. I have 3 stars for atmosphere only because smoke from smokers outside wafts into the small indoor space.
The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. The waiter did not address my female friend or give any eye contact during our stay, which felt odd when ordering. The serenity next to the park was lovely, and the place is quaint. A 12.5% service charge was added.
Went there a few months ago bc of the review, turned out to be a disappointment. The meal started nicely with an avocado&shrimp salad, however the main dishes were what made the meal average(or slightly above average). When the bill came to us it was nearly 30pound pp without any alcoholic drinks only orange juice. So not a bad place for a meal at all, it has this nice and private atmosphere, but the food quality should be improved somehow to make our money worth it.
