I had brunch here and left very satisfied indeed. The restaurant offers outside and inside seats and serves up some quality food. Largely egg based, the menu contains some classics as well as some more interesting Asian fusion cooking. Drinks are all good, if not a little overpriced. Well work a visit.
Absolutely love this place. Gorgeous fresh food. If you're looking for brunch with a bit of spice, this is the place
Delicious brunch, beautiful interior, great pickles and vinegar drinks - it's a health lover's dream!
Really delicious food- full of flavour, mix of Italian-Middle Eastern flavours
Fresh ingredients cooked in a creative way in a chilled and shabby chic atmosphere. Lovely.
Wonderful food, hearty, innovative and with full of flavour, in a relaxed and quirky venue, full of personality :)
Fantastic restaurant with extremely friendly and knowledgable staff. The menu was creative and interesting - really enjoyable dining experience. Though the price was very reasonable for the quality
Always delicious, a real favourite, so glad I’m local. Supper tonight even better than usual- the hanger steak, pasta w ricotta and tomatoes, great flatbread and labneh- all perfectly balanced and interestingly flavoured. Will be trying to recreate the dukkah (thanks Chef!) with I’m sure limited success!
Good small restaurant. Wide choice of dishes, including tapas style. Small plates are good value. Style is vaguely middle Eastern. Good flavours, quality ingredients.
Small plates that were in my view exceptional examples of what they offered. The only disappointment was the Gyoza dough which I found thick and slightly rubbery (I should point out these were my wife's favourite part of the meal). The deep fried chicken wings were the best I have ever eaten, anywhere. The fish bones done in the style of Chicharron was superb. The cocktails were also good. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly and, as a result, some will likely complain that the price is a bit high for what you get.
Such a lovely spot! They do brunch all day at the weekends along with small plates from 12 for lunch. The food is delicious curried potato's with salt beef and eggs is a real favourite - they also serve Caravan coffee which is always a bonus! Really friendly staff too which make this already fab place even more inviting!
If you're a foodie, you'll like this place. I've been for breakfast and dinner, and the breakfast is more my style - great hearty daal / egg dish I was wary of but really enjoyed, good coffee from local roaster Caravan, nice kombucha. Sunday morning is a great time to go, but make a reservation if you're coming after 10:30, as it got quite packed. The dinner was more trendy/upscale, well-presented small plates meant to be shared and a 'curated' vs. lengthy menu. I'm a more casual hearty homestyle cooking type, but if you're into the dining experience and/or have someone you want to 'take out', Raw Duck is a beautiful choice in every way.
This place. IS. AMAZING. The drinking vinegars are awesome, the pickles and ferments are incredible - and if you go, make sure you have the white negroni (can't remember the official name but my god that thing is delicious). Just generally, the food is delicious and thoughtful, cannot recommend highly enough. And the team are so accommodating, too: we had the worst possible timing for our visit, going on an occasion when there had just been a street-wide gas leak and they had been told there'd be no gas for the next however many hours (so no ovens)... and they STILL provided us with a great experience and the most glorious sharing plates. Love this place.
Open and spacious restaurant close to Hackney fields with long communal tables and potted plants. They have a really strong brunch menu with a wide variety of interesting dishes and drinks. Portions are small, so order to share.
I recently went to the Raw Duck with three friends over the Bank Holiday weekend in May and we were all suitably impressed. The minimal, yet homely decor including an abundance of healthy plants and the vinyl record player sets the tone as welcoming and intimate. The food was all fresh and seriously delicious. The high culinary standards speak for itself, however, it is evident that the people behind the Raw Duck are passionate about what they do and they do what they do brilliantly well. We were particularly impressed with our waiter of the evening, Richard who went out of his way to make sure we had a great time - we were the last to leave that evening and we will definitely be back! Ayley Salvin.
We just held and awards event and brunch at Rawduck for 40 people. The food was amazing and the staff were very welcoming. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. Highly recommended!
The food was incredible. Hearty and nourishing. The ham hock salad was mind blowing and all the house pickles delicious. Would recommend the house brewed fig kombucha - so tasty!
Excellent selection of food here. Ideal if you fancy lots of variety in small dishes - essentially a tasting menu. The portions were small but given the quality of the food and how wide the selection is, reasonably priced although not a budget night out. Been here several times and the staff are always great, knowledgeable about what is in offer and friendly without being overbearing which is what I prefer. Hate being asking "is your food OK?" throughout my meal at some places so here I can relax and enjoy myself. The wines on offer are excellent. Had a gin & tonic which was likely one of the best I've tasted - celery syrup is a winner! Nice canteen style layout and the music playing in the background was great and not too loud so could converse at a reasonable volume. Can't wait to visit again!
Great food, lovely staff. I've been here a lot - brunch, mid week and evenings. The wine is great and the food is always delicious and varied. The staff are amazing and have always gone out of their way to accommodate special requests. Everything from kids, dogs and then special birthdays. If you get used to it being served as tapas (rather than formal restaurant style) then you will understand the serving style.
Insanely delicious food. The portions are small so don't be surprised, but get a couple of plates, be ready to drop a little cash and this is absolutely the place. Unpretentious, friendly, communal vibe. Excellent wine and great cocktails. My boyfriend and I had these sneaky sake hot toddys that felt like tea/cocoa/mulled wine and crept up on us alcohol-wise. Stunning pickles and make sure you try the orange wine which is from Southern Italy. Enjoy!
The main meal was nice, but the service was fairly relaxed. It took a while to receive our food. This is nice for couples, but we were a large hungry group. I then had the rhubarb baked cheesecake... The best cheesecake I've ever had!!
The Raw Duck has an excellent array of dishes all with a little creative twist and always for a good reason. I thoroughly recommend it but removed one star simply due to one of the waitresses not being very friendly nor attentive.
The pickles and ferments are intriguing, but I didn't find them that exciting. I can't speak for the drinking vinegars; too scary for me. I could've eaten the moreish buttermilk fried chicken all day, even if other dishes were a bit hit (an intensely lemony orzo and spinach) and miss (tough lamb chops). Some interesting natural wines, and cheery service made for a great night out overall.
Great food, fresh and bursting with flavour. The curried potatoes and eggs were scrummy. Service is a bit odd, aloof and difficult to get attention - some of that is perhaps how they sit you, some of it is just Hackney.
I've been here a couple of times and both meals were great. However, the service is quite poor. There's one lady in there who is extremely rude and dismissive - although perhaps she was just having a bad day! I recommend both the mackerel and poached egg rice bowl and the breakfast bap on sourdough! The green juice is good too.
Had brunch here on Sunday with a couple of friends. The aesthetic and decor of the place is incredible with both indoor and outdoor seating. Food and Coffee was great and averagely priced for London. Would definitely recommend for brunch and aiming to go for dinner soon.
Lovely dinner experience going in on a busy Saturday night. Atmosphere was casual and lively and the dim lighting sets a romantic mood. Food was delicious especially the fried chicken and cod cheeks. The signal pickles are worth trying, and complements the menu as sides or appetisers.
Food was great...a little more of an exotic twist on the standard brunch fare. There was a slight issue with the order, in as much as one dish was forgotten, which meant we had to wait 10 mins for it, but had a word with the manager and was dealt with courtesly and reflected in our bill. Would deffo recommend
Good food in pleasant, relaxed setting. The menu might not be to everyone's taste, so I suggest that you have a look at it before you go, but everything was delicious. If we had been in more of a hurry, then we might have found the service a bit too relaxed (i.e. slow, on a quiet Tuesday evening). I definitely plan to return.
The food was good, our group tried a lot of the menu and generally there were positive reviews. The drinks were great too, from the various kombucha's to the teas, a favourite was the almond date and honey drink. The only sore points were a few items were forgotten off the order and didn't arrive with the food, leaving the additional bacon to arrive after the dish was already eaten. One or two bill items were also at different prices to the menu prices.
Good food, inventive and cooked to perfection. Love the fact that they make their own kombucha. I like the layout and lighting of the restaurant - large shared tables and lots of plants. The dishes are however very expensive and portions are tiny!
Really cool. Menu great. The space is great, big windows and the place is filled with plants. Loses one start as its a bit expensive for what it is. Lot's of herbal drinks and stuff like that. I've only ever been for brunch, but go there quite often.
Love, love, love the concept and the inspired menu but all the food comes well under seasoned. Salt is available on the tables but never reaches its full potential. First time I've seen kombucha on the menu but this in turn was too sweet (undrinkably so). Great decor, love the concrete tables and jars of pickles and ferments, staff are pleasant and knowledgeable.
3 of us had a mid-week dinner here. The service was friendly but very relaxed so most food took a little while to arrive and didn't arrive all at once. They tended to arrive one or two dishes at a time. The plates were small, expensive and weird. We chose to go here based on the recommendation by the book 'WHERE CHEFS EAT' in which this restaurant is described as "Budget" in terms of price range. I assure you, budget it is not. Their dinner menu is fairly expensive, even for London, with a small plate of chopped steak and charred veg being £20+. The food was really interesting and for the most part, tasty. But the price made it really hard to enjoy this food. The atmosphere, decorations/furniture and music was all great! Very, very hipster but all interesting. Final thoughts: try the drinking vinegars and spoiler alert! They don't have actual raw duck on the menu.
THIS IS A TAPAS STYLE of menu "of small and large sharing plates" and tables, I don't think this is clear from website. You could easily miss those 6 words. Interesting food descriptions that do not really match what you are expecting/served. Salted cod for £10 was very small portion and was more like an Estcovitch dish. Yellow courgette at £14 was a sma size salad fire the price and lacked all of the flavour promised. Crispy lamb at £12 was basically endive leaves with a tiny sprinkle of crispy lamb. The Possin was tender and delicious as was the Ham Hock. Theme flows through to puddings. A Choclate Slab with sour cherry is actually a very very thin and i mean thin, piece of chocolate broken, with a few raisins/cherries dashed on top. Cheesecake had burnt bottom and sides but middle was delicious. Service was polite and attentive. Overall food was nice. Is line to go back now that i know what it is and give it a second chance
This place was ok. It has all the makings of a great restaurant but just fell short. Some dishes were pretty nice, like the vegetable fritters. But in general I think they were over priced for the portion sizes. Service was ok as well. Our waitress was very nice, but just a little under-attentive.
Simple but still interesting and tasty food but a bit overpriced for some dishes. Also, most waiters looked a bit lost even though they were always around and seemed to be needing all empty wine glasses or plates even though you still had a sip or a bite left.. Would not rush back but good to try though once - rustic East-London atmosphere for an organic or bio-dynamic wine lover. We kept ordering bread as there were only two little slices on a plate, which they still charged for as well.. Good bread though but not sure if worth all that money.
Nice decor, staff, and music. Menu sounded interesting but unfortunately fell short on both dishes: poached eggs and bread was over done, and the smoked salmon in the Nori bowl was very poor; salty, warm, and fishy and a bit gross to eat. Juices were good but pricey for the size. Was decent but loses a star on things that can be easily improved.
The food is great, but for the price the size of juices is a shame. Service is very friendly but tend to disappear. I won't come here for lunch break anymore as I can't wait for half an hour just to be able to ask the bill.
"Rawduck, more like Rawsuck" said my boyfriend while we were at the table. We left pretty disappointed. Greasy fritters. Burnt anchovy toast. Mustard-slathered salad. Tasteless poussin. While the dishes on the menu sounded interesting, the execution was lacking considerably. They were out of several items on the menu. Hard to get attention of staff. I wondered how many joints they'd been smoking as they were aloof and forgetful. And by the time we were ready to go, paying the extortionate bill was an all too unfair price to pay for getting to leave the place. Don't bother.
We got there at 3pm and asked for a table for 3. There was clearly a few spots available but the waitress tells us there's no table available for 3 and a 30-40min wait for food. Having walked 30min just to try the place, I asked if at least we could order until a table is free. The arrogant/pretentious waitress told us she had to keep some spots/table free for other people... What a waste of time! Otherwise, the place looks nice and menu original but there service/information definitely need to step up.
Food was ok but over-priced for the portion. £9 for poached egg on one slice of toast? Asked for tomato sauce twice which never came - got unsmiling somewhat nonchalant response from staff member when I had to get up to ask for it 2nd time... Still didn't arrive. Maybe the guy thought he was too cool to serve me sauce? No idea...
They say the true value of customer service is revealed when something goes wrong. Raw duck today gave a master class in what not to do. From the undercooked potatoes to the absolute fail of the manager hiding behind the inexperienced waitress when they had managed to absolutely bungle our birthday surprise, it was simply shameful. There was ample opportunity for the manager/chef (I assume this was the tall guy with grey hair and beard hiding in the kitchen) to come out and apologise for the one hour delay between our main course and dessert (turns out they never put the order through but failed to check this on the four occasions we asked different staff members - including the manager- what was going on). When they realised their mistake they sent the most junior waitress out to explain, but not even a coffee was offered as an apology. Oh and the cherry on top was when the cake arrived it was one portion only (we were pretty clear on the phone when we said "can you bring a cherry tart for seven people with a candle"!). Appalling service and had it not been for my father in law who was inviting us insisting on not making a scandal, I would have asked the service charge to be removed and for the chef/manager (tall guy with grey hair and beard) to come out so he could get a piece of my mind. They get two stars because the food was decent, but we were left with a very bitter taste in our mouth.
Went there one payday to see what it was like and was basically accused of trying to somehow get free food when we asked asked for it to be cooked ever so slightly. The owner was very rude and unwelcoming, in the end we went round the corner to the picture house to grab burgers. It looks like they are now closed, ,guessing the costs drove them out ..I cannot say I'm sorry at all maybe now a respectable business owner can open up a nice restaurant
Incredibly slow service. Waited one hour for a cold cappucino and two cold breakfasts. I think £9 for one fried egg and two mushrooms on toast is extortionate, even for hipsterville! They also had the cheek to add a 12.5% service charge onto the bill. We left without paying that, not that anyone noticed.
Totally uninspiring food at ridiculously inflated prices. This is a total hipster cafe, I don't know why but hipster places often seem to serve tiny portions at extortionate prices and this one is no different. My meal was two eggs dripped into a pan and a couple of fried mushrooms accompanied by a small bowl of plain undercooked rice. It looked like it had the potential to be good from the menu but it was totally lacking in flavour. It took 40 minutes for this to be served and i left hungry.
We made a reservation, but still had to wait for 40 min for a table. We waited 15 min to see a menu and by that time we lost the appetite. You can see that they use good quality ingredients on their dishes, but the mix of asian and western influences is not pleasant, and far from being delicious. The staff was polite but slow and distracted - for two occasions we had the wrong drinks and meals coming to our table. It might have been just a bad day for them. But is was a really REALLY BAD one.
Food was okay but certainly not worth the inflated prices. The main issue is the service, or lack of.... took absolutely ages to get the attention of staff - even though we were a big group. No recommendations from the menu, we ended up sharing these tiny plates of food. Some food never arrived! Drinks took around 40 minutes to serve. It's strange as there were tonnes of staff, and the place was not too busy! Bad value for money, terrible experience, could not recommend and genuinely felt I had been ripped off!
Beyond the fact that the food is overpriced, the menu is also misleading. I ordered roasted aubergine on toast which clearly wasn't roasted but deep fried and it was drenched with oil. It was that oily that i couldn't eat it. So I removed it and ate the bread with some "posh" yoghurt the aubergine had been originally sat on. The server never made a checkback on my meal, and when clearing the plates didn't even ask whether there was anything wrong with the meal as left the main part of the dish uneaten. Regardless, I did tell her that I wasn't happy, and that it was basically inedible, she apologised said she'd tell it to the chef. Judging by her voice and manner of speech I wasn't the first to complain. As i walked in Rawduck it looked really promising as the interior was nice but the complete lack of service, and not great at all food (based on my meal) which is extremely overprised makes never go back there again. And I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Period.
Went for dinner with a friend during the week and this restaurant had been recommended to us. We choose prosciutto, fried green tomatoes, cod cheeks, grilled squash to share. 1 out of 4(the squash) tasted good, the tomatoes were plain, the cod cheeks were swimming in a plate of butter and hence tasted alike. Luckily we had a nice carafe of wine to swallow it all down with. The staff was friendly, but new and not informed about the menu which is not nice for anybody. Nice location, but a bit lost on this cuisine. It has got potential but needs a new wind.
