Outstanding, fresh clean environment. great vibe. awesome staff. wonderful menu.
I attended this restaurant as a birthday dinner. My children chose sushi. It was a perfect choice!! They had a drive thru I saw. They had handicap parking. The waiter was great. The food was excellent! We had a Japanese box the teriyaki steak, I split it with my 9 year old. There was plenty of food enough for us to eat and have leftovers. The sushi was great my bfs son had the kilgore roll and it was the fan favorite. I thought potatoes on the menu was a little odd but I was wrong. They were delightful. The whole table was given a salad and soup. Overall I will be back!
fresh made food made to order. clean. Great vibe. good staff. tasty food. all is good here. God Bless
Amazing food the sushi is amazing the appetizers are so good I've had every single roll on the list and not one was bad too me. Service is immaculate at least from who I've had it does get very busy and since I have a baby now I just get takeout to avoid bringing in the kids it's not very big but worth it for the cozy atmosphere.
Absolutely the best sushi in town. Anthony the Sushi Chef was amazing, and our server Johnny could not have done a better job. The service was exceptionally outstanding. Went that extra mile just to put a smile on my kids face. Definitely will be back, and reccomend to all my friends and family!
Exactly the place we'd been looking, having had a joint identical to this in Nashville as our H.A.F.H.!!! The first thing you notice is that the hostess/server is probably the second most important person working there and she knows what you're going to ask as you're asking! Don't be shy like we were, thinking we were gonna insult her intelligence with the basics! Her answer would inform our level questions from then on! Man, it's great not having to draw a picture! This place is traditional middle-class Japanese food with stuff anybody would love! And plenty of it! Plus, Sapporo 🍻 Plus it is NOT FUSION! THIS PLACE THAT I FOUND BY ACCIDENT IS NUMBER 1 IN MY BOOK!
Always excellent on all accounts from the service to the food. It's busy at lunch time so if your hungry and don't have time to wait they are pretty quick if you order inside or call a head. All in all it's just a really good place to eat.
Came here with a few friends - the place was packed, but we didn't wait longer than 10 minutes to be seated. The service was prompt and professional, while still being lighthearted and pleasant. We all found it amazing how much food we received per order. Our meals came with soup and salad (both delicious - love honey-ginger dressing), the pork dumplings were pretty much perfect, and the rolls were amazing. Their BBQ Eel rolls are pretty standard (which is great in my book) but they had some available that I'd never even heard of - the best of which was the White Russian Roll. It pretty much won the evening. If sushi isn't your thing, no worries - their standard meals are also great. My husband ordered a steak box. It was so full of food that we ended up taking some home - and it had a lot of variety. Most restaurants will have a giant plate with only three items, but this had the steak, rice, some shrimp nigiri, cabbage and then some. I stole a bite of steak, and found it cooked to perfection. At the end of the meal, when we received our checks - it turned out to be the smallest ticket we've ever paid for sushi. This place is legit awesome.
I just moved to Longview from Sacramento California, for the last couple months I have been missing a great sushi place to eat at. Finally I found this Gem! 5 stars all the way for their speedy service, great atmosphere and super friendly customer service. Loved the Sushi and I will totally come back for as long as I live here and they are in business. The a lot was full as well as the Drive-Thru, that alone told me this place was BOMB. HIGHLY RECOMMEND EATING HERE.
After living in japan for 3yrs, I got used to good authentic Japanese food & sushi. I am the hardest critic on restaurants after working in them for years and knowing what to expect. the quality of food was out of this world for the price. I must say they completely surprised me. for a change the food is worth the price. There was one thing that I was not happy with. I received my food before the rest of my party did. about 10-15 mins between. I had ordered the steak box and they ordered 4 sushi rolls. I had to sit with my steak in from of me watching it get cold while waiting for their lunch. This was the servers fault and I can not hold the restaurant itself at fault for that portion of the experience. as I have stated they have the best sushi & Japanese food in ( I would say) Texas/United States. I highly recommend giving them a try even if sushi isn't your thing, they have something for you as well.
The food here was awesome! I ate sushi and my husband had the steak—so we both got what we wanted! Perfect date night location.
My wife and I love Sumo. We come all the time, and we will continue to do so. The food is always great, the staff is always kind. The only problem that we have had is that they haven’t yet been able to adapt to how busy they are. They get SUPER busy, and in those high traffic hours sometimes the wait times for food can get pretty long. So don’t come in any kind of rush.
The food was outstanding! My waitress Romaina was knowledgeable, prompt and very helpful! She was patient with me when I asked questions. I asked after the plum wine, and when she tried to explain it, she brought me a sample without be asked.
I got a spicy chicken plate which was great, the server was awesome, it was enjoyable to eat there.
One of my favorite Japanese restaurants. Foods amazing and service is great. Me and my wife love having date night here.
My wife and I really enjoy eating at Sumo! The Texas Roll is to die for! They have the best one I have ever had. I also usually get the chicken teriyaki box. I’ve never had anything bad from there. I highly recommend giving them a try!
I will give it 5, but it should be like 4.5. Only reason, and it's not our waiters fault, but we did have to wait for a long time after we were seated before he came to our table. He said he didn't know. Other than that, he made up for it. The food is always good. Nice staff.
We are from out of town and decided to stop. Our waitress, Sha, was absolutely amazing! The food was absolutely delicious. Ended up with 5 to go boxes after being stuffed! But, Sha went above and beyond with her service. She was amazing with my kids and never once had to ask for a refill. She was friendly and well mannered! We will definitely continue coming if we know she is still serving! She deserves a raise!
The food was awesome we ordered the vegetarian roll and the yellow tail roll and it was great. For the main course we ordered vegetarian fried rice and chicken tryeki hibachi and it was also amazing. Our server was nice and helped us with everything we needed and even told us what everything is.
The food is excellent. We have been to ALL the other sushi places here in town, but none of them have had a good price as well as great food! The service is great as well. A very nice lady by the name of Carmen, was our waitress. We never ran out of tea, or had any needs, because she was on top of it from the start. Was just an overall great dining experience! We WILL definitely be back!!!
Had wonderful dinner and the best server I've had their ever my sweetie ask her to order for him and she did an amazing choice!!
I ordered iced tea and that server with the cute little caboose on him stabbed my friend. Got sauced on the sake and they threatened to hurt my family. My friend never got his drink on account of him being a stab victim. Fried rice was good. 10/10 would drink here again RIP In peace Levi 2022-2023
L0VE sumos! Tried it for the first time about 4 years ago and have been getting it every month since. My favorite is the fried rice & crab delight. Their yum yum sauce is delicious. Staff is very friendly, and so are the waiters and waitresses. The inside is a bit cramped, however the ceiling is low and the colors they used on the inside make everything mesh together really well. So despite it being a small little restaurant, it has alot of potential once you sit down and get situated. I suffer from anxiety, especially in cramped spaces. The booths are the type of booths where you can snuggle up towards the wall or window and not feel like you are out in the open. It's a really great restaurant IMO! The food is unlike any other sushi I've tried. But to each their own, enjoy! - or don't. (Your loss)
Waitress was SUPER, food was GREAT, but I was very cold during the whole meal, plus I was seated in the very back room near the back door and it was cold outside that day.
Always great service, food, and sushi! This time, the steak was slightly tough ( for both me and my husband with medium well and medium rare ). However, this is the first time I have ever noticed this to be a problem, and we will definitely be back as always! Love Sumos!
Best Fried Rice! Good prices and overall good food. My wife loves the sushi and gyoza, and I'm all about the chicken teriyaki box. It's lots of food for a fair price.
Small and quaint with big flavor. A couple dozen rolls to choose from and decent but not overwhelming number of menu selections. The staff is really friendly and professional. I had the atomic roll and the shrimp and steak teriyaki. Definitely worth the drive if you live within a one to two hour drive.
Literally drove around Longview to find a really packed & expensive place for sushi! I spent 2mins on google and remembered passes by the Sumo places earlier in the day. My husband & I were starving but it wasn't far from us. We pull up and can see that there is a huge line. We talk to the lady and we we only had to wait 10mins. I was pretty happy it wasn't an hour hahah! We sit down and have our order taken and our sever was definitely amazing! We got the hot sake, edamame and the golden buddha that was so big I could share it! Very inexpensive and very delicious!
Tristan is the best ! I have been there multiple times, great food , excellent and friendly service. 10/10 fav restaurant!
The staff did a great job and the food was delicious!
Sumo is a great place to eat at! All of the food is fresh and delicious! This place is one of my favorite places to get sushi- I love the Kilgore Roll, Crab Delight Roll, and Texas Roll. Staff is very friendly. Glad we have a place like this in Longview!
I can’t thank these guys enough, I laid down my wallet when grabbing my pickup at the counter and the gentleman offered to bring my food out to my vehicle due to me being on crutches, not only was the food outstanding but the owner personally delivered my wallet back to my house and not a single thing was missing out of it. Thank y’all very much
Best sushi in town! The food is always fresh and reasonably priced. They offer both cooked and raw sushi options, and the sashimi is absolutely amazing. A great spot for a relaxing meal.
The only place I will go get sushi now that my sushi place has closed. I honestly come here at least once a week for sushi and shrimp fried rice. I also really like their appetizer sauce when you add that and yum yum sauce to the fried rice it is exquisite.
Delicious fried rice and noodles!! I’m not a huge fan of teriyaki but I loved their teriyaki chicken!! Even to go it tastes fresh and well made.
My finance and I went for our anniversary, Libby created an amazing atmosphere and provided great service while we were eating! Highly recommend!
Food was great! We were visiting from North Carolina and my husband and I loved the place! Service was amazing both times we went there we were treated so good! 100% recommended!
They had good music, nice employees, and the decorations were so cute. i liked the lights. the sushi was fresh and rather quick, made extremely well done.
Some of the best Japanese in Longview. Love the soup, salad, and Steak teriyaki. Longview has several options for sushi now, but we still love Sumo for their soup and best rainbow rolls.
Just a wonderful place to be! I try to eat here every week. The restaurant was always nice but has improved even more with the new owners keeping the recipes the same, but adding their own flair and style. Now offering a small but diverse wine list they aspire to add taste and bouquet, and blend it with the diverse flavors of fine food, and at very reasonable price. Their Fried rice is excellent, and the food is of the finest ingredients! My hat is off to the owners, and I look forward to dining there for years to come! 谢谢 芳!
Sumo Japenese Resturant did not disappoint!! The food is phenomenal. The service is impeccable. The kitchen is fast. If you get an appetizer, wait a minute to order your entrée because they are on top of it!! The Golden Budah roll is my new favorite. You also get soup, salad, and edamame. Price is normal for any resturant now days. I would definitely recommend venturing on over and trying it out!! First time here, but it's definitely not the last!!
Knowing that we were new to this restaurant, our server went above and beyond to help us pick our sauces and the meals to our tastes. He brought us samples of any of the sauces that we had questions of. The food was great! I tried something new on his recommendations (I can't remember the name of it, but it was thinly sliced seasoned steak ). It was quite good. My husband got a Bento Box. His was excellent as well. As a matter of fact, between the two of us, we had more than enough food, as we ended up taking most of it home. I think next time we will split the Bento Box as it was quite good and more than enough for the two of us. This is a place we will go back to and try different things on the menu.
Everything tasted great that we ordered for dinner. The Udon noodles were great and the “bento box” was tasty. We enjoyed how everything we ordered came with soup and salad. The house made dressing was delicious. Service was nice and friendly. She didn’t clear our salad or soup bowls and that seemed odd but made that’s just how they do it. We would stop back again.
Food and service is good. Bathrooms could use some cleaning and a lock on the door. Atmosphere was nice. Wasn't overpriced for what you order. Would like to see less fried fish in their rolls.
The food was good, could use a little more egg in the fried rice, but that's just me. Service was good too, we didn't wait long for a table, everything went smooth. I thought it was a little over priced, but they do give you enough for leftovers.
Some chicken and or beef dishes could warmer.
Good service, waitress was very attentive, kept drinks full and kept checking on us. Food was very good, came out in a timely manner, clean. Got there when they opened, by the time we left they were standing at the door waiting to get in. I would go back. " when they open".
Food was good, our server kept looking at us like he was afraid to speak. The biggest issue I had was cleanliness, if you look at my photo someone had spilled something that had splashed onto the light shade and they just let it dry. Idk if I'll be back again but it wasn't worth the 92$ I spent to take my family there in my opinion.
Well, my kids & I generally love this place! Unfortunately though; tonight we went with my boyfriend (his 1st time) and not to the fault of our waiter Taylor, we were very disappointed. It took the kitchen over 45 minutes for them to finally bring us our food. Once arriving there, our waiter got our drink order right away & took our food order when returning with our drinks. The long wait had us end up not as hungry & Taylor constantly was telling us he was sorry & was watching for our order. He also told us throat TO GO orders were putting our food behind. I'm sorry but we were THERE! We were there a near hour before getting to eat and because we had plans at 7:15p we had to get our food put in to-go boxes to eat what we could then & the rest later... This restaurant is too good to have this happen.
Have been once before about two years ago and was impressed for the food offering for Longview as I now live in a large city with a very large Asian population. This time though I see that quality has gone down just a little bit. The chicken and shrimp of our meals were over cooked, practically chew toys for tiny dogs, and the rice used for fried rice was not a traditional type of rice but the flavor was still good. The highlight of our meal was the Tyler Roll we had. A very creative roll and very tasty. Lots of good to be had here but some corners cut and a service that was very slow kind of spoiled this trip. We hope to return on our next trip and see improvement.
Great food! Unfortunately, I am changing this review from a 5 star that I have gave it two years ago, to now a 3 star. The food is still good. However, the service has really gotten worse. Part of it, I’m sure, is due to be understaffed. Several times I have been here in the last two years, and the service just is not great. One server would not even come to my table to check on us. He would just come around a corner about 12 feet away, wait for me to notice him, and then he would give me a questioning thumbs up to see if all was well. He also had brought our main meals and our bill even before I ever received the sushi I ordered. The last several times I have been there, it has taken around 90 minutes for my order of sushi to come out. I like to eat my sushi as an appetizer, but that just has not been possible recently. I really hope they can turn the service around, as I do enjoy the food. The service just really ruins it for me.
food is good but the prices on the pictures they have posted don’t match current prices so take that into consideration
Went for my birthday dinner tonight. Was about half full with people, decent for a Tuesday. Our waitress took our order, brought our drinks. Came back about 1/2 hrs later and asked us if we'd been served, nope. Turns out our food was sent to another table, we had to wait for it to be cooked again. Dinner finally served, was ok. Finally Bill time, not our bill. Waitress was nice, when we saw her, but this restaurant has serious internal issues.
Food is decent for the area. They ALWAYS forget the yum yum sauce. Even if you pay for extra. Poor service at the window always.
Food was ok. I had the hibachi shrimp with fried rice, uncooked potatoes, bland noodles. I will not get this again. My daughter had the shrimp lo mein with veggies and it was ok. The soup and salad was awesome. I liked the house ginger dressing and my daughter really liked the soup. Overall it was ok and we may come back to try the sushi.
I hate to give a 2 but we walked in and waited to be seated for about 5-7 min . Then we finally got seated we’re given me us and sat there for 20 min before we just got up and left and when we walked out the guy who seated us said thank you have a good day 🙄there were 2 waitresses one was even rolling silverware ! I gave this a 2 instead of 1 because I love their food and have always gotten it to go with no issues but I will not be dining in . Parking is horrible no matter what time of day you go as well .
I would rate the food 4 stars but the speed of the kitchen & service is waaaay too slow. We had a 45 min wait total for an on line order. Also, my wife was with a few friends for a lunch break and they had to get the food for take out since it was so slow coming out & they didn't get to eat on their break.
You get a lot of food for a fair price! It was all pretty delicious! Can’t complain. Editing: September 8, 2019 I ordered take out and my chicken was plain and had no sauce...I order the teriyaki chicken...also found tiny rocks in my rice..never had that happen. This isn't the first time they messed up on my order to go, but just thought it was an accident the first time. You lost three stars because of this, and a customer. Three strikes and you're out.
I sent my steak bites back because they were over cooked. The manager came and told it wasn’t and argued with me. That’s not how you treat customers. The table next to us the server stuck his thumb in their soup. This place is falling off. Terrible service and not very clean. Don’t get me started on the bathrooms.
Food was ok, my steak hibachi had no flavor and my order was wrong. Soup was really good and I added the ginger sauce to give the hibachi some flavor.
Used to be a favorite spot of mine but the service and quality have gone downhill. We got take-out tonight and the steak that was supposed to be cooked as medium was cooked well done... very hard an chewy.. The fried rice in both boxes was so over cooked and sort of tasteless. The sushi wasn't good either. Dissatisfied with the quality and taste vs the price we paid.
I hate to leave negative reviews and I trusted the good reviews this place got on here, but I’ve had a lot of sushi in my life and this was probably the worst sushi I’ve ever had. The people were friendly and attentive, the reason for the two stars, but the food itself was just dreadful - enough to where I almost wanted to just get up and leave if my wife had agreed to do so after getting and sending back her roll because of not liking it. I ordered the beef teriyaki bento and it was just chunks of cold, bland steak with a tiny bit of a thin watery sauce; the California rolls were off, the tea was much too watery, and the soup that came with the meal was just no good either. Like I say, I hate to leave a bad review, but I would have much rather have just gone to a different establishment and not spent $30 on this meal. They have a lot of good reviews, as noted, so those around here must like it but I will not return to this establishment. If Gordon Ramsay was sat down and served what we got, it’d likely be a lot of cussing and sighing.
Fried rice is barely fried and still white and the hibachi steak tasted like they put it straight on the grill from the package with no seasoning whatsoever. I seasoned it myself at home. Should’ve saved my money and went somewhere else
What happened to this place? This was my favorite restaurant but I visited today and the food was bland, dry, and I kept smelling bathroom cleaner every time the door opened. This is not what I've come to expect at Sumo.
I have enjoyed many meals at Sumo except for today. My daughter and I ordered calamari and seaweed salad for appetizers and 4 rolls. It took 30 minutes for the appetizers to come and the dough on the calamari was not cooked all the way. The table next to us was seated over 40 minutes after us and their entrees were delivered within 15 minutes while we had been there an hour. Of course it did not help that the waiter was telling them they were his VIPs. Since I was on my lunch break and apparently NOT a VIP worthy of being served the food we ordered in an hour, we asked for the check and paid for the seaweed salad because I sent the calamari back and we didn't get anything else. Needless to say, my daughter and I said almost simultaneously that we will NEVER step foot in that place again. It has been a couple of hours and I am still absolutely furious about the way my daughter and I were treated.
Worst food I have ever had in my life. The steak was supposed to be cooked medium rare and was hard as rock. The rice and scallops had zero taste to them. The sushi was horrible quality. The service was terrible. We had to refill our own tea drinks cause the waiter was nonexistent. Not to mention all they offered was tea and water. Will not be going back and would recommend you think twice before going.
The sorriest excuse for a Japanese restaurant I've ever been to! Come on people no way..... This place is NOT JAPANESE
Wish I had Samual L Jackson with me. Just so he could say “ say it’ll be ready in 5 minutes 1 more time!” Hour and a half wait for a freaking online order is so ridiculous! This happen the last time I came here.. never again… and this stupid drive thru layout is dumb! Love the clear view of the nasty back door! Freaking gross… never again.. never.. fire lanes blocked, fire hydrant blocked, no clear view of McCann because of people parking on the grass! Fix the parking lot layout! Oh and clean that nasty disgusting front door too!
Wow. Horribly expensive hot Sake. Waited over ten minutes to be served and could hear the waiters arguing about who had to leave early. Food prices bizarre and very atypical Japanese fare and I eat Asian food at restaurants several times a week in many cities. No wasabi with California roll. Was too tired from my day to leave or I would have. Had Salmon Hibachi. Thinly cut dried out rubbery Salmon. A mountain of greasy fried rice. It’s just a giant NO
I had to drop my rating.. we will never go back again. Food quality has dropped (we found parts of a scrubber pad in our food, rice was old and dried out) and the service level has dropped as well (how dare I interrupt their work with their work) If I could give negative stars I would. Such a shame, they started out so well.
My husband and I got home and realized that they gave us the wrong order. We called in and they said they would replace the order and just pick it up in the next 20 minutes. We show up and they ask for our food. We didn't have it and no one said to bring it. The owner was not friendly and treated us like we were trying to take advantage of her. We spent an hour driving around fixing their mistake all to be treated like lying thieves. We usually eat there once a week and spend good money, but not anymore, we're done.
We ordered on line. We went to the restaurant to pick up. We got there 10 minutes after our order to be ready. Our order was not ready. My wife simply ask then when our order would be ready. We were berated by the window staff. Then a manager berated us after the staff did. Very unprofessional and unacceptable. Avoid Sumo’s they do not treat customers with respect or courtesy.
I place a to go order and arrive 10 minutes after I was told it would be ready, in the drive through I make direct eye contact with 4 seperate workers and still get no help, so I go inside, I'm standing at the entrance waiting to be helped with my food that i can visibly see is ready, my name being on the ticket, for over 20 minutes. The woman who came in behind me gets helped first directly in front of me, and then I have to wait ANOTHER 5 minutes to get my cold food, all while the parking lot is completely empty. I'm no longer going to be dining here because of the horrible service and my money will be better spent at Kobes.
We went for my spouses birthday and it was a huge disappointment. The salmon was white , not even close to pink and what I got ( steak , chicken , rice , noodles and potatoes) was absolutely horrible. One of the potatoes was rotten and the rest of the food had absolutely no flavor at all. The meat was just plain , not a single thing put on it…very very dry. The rice was mushy and plain as well. All of the food was dripping in grease. Not to mention they brought my husband’s food out, then mine 15 min later. We took a few bites then didn’t even eat the food. They never asked how our food was or anything, even when they saw we didn’t eat it. But they had no problem charging us full price.
We love Sumo, but have been very disappointed with the service recently. Tonight, we ordered online and it took 40 minutes before it was ready..we only had 2 rolls and 2 side salads. One of the side salads (that we paid $1.50 each for) had about 3 bites worth of lettuce which was pretty disappointing to see when we got home. Also, our rolls were put in the same togo box squished together. My husband's was a fried roll and mine was a raw roll so by the time we made it home the heat from his roll had warmed mine up which was gross. We use to love going here but may have to find a new sushi spot to spend our money at.
Came here for the first time on Sunday. Only a few tables in the building. Service took a long time to get drinks. We ordered an appetizer of fried calamari. We received our app and food at the same time except we received shrimp tempura not calamari. 20 mins later we received the calamari just to find it was undercooked ice cold and batter was coming off. Never received my yum yum sauce. Steak was ice cold. Rice was hard. Server never checked on us or got us refills. All we got was a sorry. Will never be back here.
I recently ate at Sumo’s and had a very concerning experience. I saw one of the kitchen staff go into the restroom while still wearing his gloves, use the bathroom, and then walk straight back into the kitchen without changing them or washing his hands. That’s a serious health and hygiene issue, and it made me lose confidence in how clean and safe the food preparation is. I hope management addresses this immediately, because customers should feel comfortable knowing their food is being handled properly. But very cool waitress
