Hannosuke in Mitsuwa Santa Monica is a haven for tempura and soba enthusiasts. Their tempura is a masterclass in Japanese culinary artistry—light, crispy, and perfectly golden. Each piece, from shrimp to vegetables, is fried to perfection, maintaining a delicate balance of texture and flavor. The tempura egg, with its soft, runny yolk encased in a soft shell, is a standout that elevates the meal to a whole new level. Pairing the tempura with their soba noodles is a match made in heaven. The soba is served chilled with a dipping sauce or hot in a comforting broth, offering a versatile and satisfying complement to the tempura. The noodles are cooked to the ideal firmness, showcasing the restaurant's dedication to authenticity and quality.
I enjoy eating Hannosuke Shrimp Tendon which is good and delicious. Me and my dad used to come to Hannosuke at Torrance but it is no longer there. So I’m grateful that there is a Hannosuke at South Centinela which is almost close to home. So they have many good meals to try. Sometimes if you dine in they will give you the meal in a Nice Bowl but sometimes they will give a bento style if they don’t have enough bowls when you dine in. So this is a good place for lunch. I know it has a 3.7 Rating but to me I give it 5 Stars.
Will definitely be back. Reminds me of the tendon I had in Japan. Not as good of course but definitely one of the bests in the US. Especially conger eel tempera is not a easy find in all the Japanese restaurants. worth the drive! The price is also good!
Fresh and wonderfully fried shrimps. Had the shrimp dish with additional sides of ice cream and shrimp. Awesome staff Mayra and Erika, and great food!
Famous tempura restaurant in Japan. Portions are big. Price is a bit higher. Cant see this restaurant in santa Monica mitsuwa. This is inside mitsuwa food court. Highly recommand. Must try.

I love this little market and the 5 little Japanese eateries within! Hannosuke is my favorite! Fish tendon plate comes with fish tempura, shrimp tempura, squash, and soft-boiled egg, shishito pepper, seaweed, all on rice, miso soup, and dipping sauces! So good! I wish they were on Instacart! I want some Now!
I purchased a quick lunch from Hannosuke today and was impressed with the quality and service. Despite getting the order as takeaway, everything was still crispy and delicious upon getting home. The service was outstanding (I am not sure what the gracious woman who was working there today’s name was), but she was quick, friendly, and pleasant.

You have to get over the horrid service and you will be fine. Hannosuke is in a food court inside the most wonderful Japanese Market in Los Angeles. There are several places to eat there and a lot of seating to be had. Parking is easy in their huge lot. We go there a lot. We often get take away, but we have eaten there several times. We love their food. Their prices are fair and you get what you pay for. They make it fresh there so it is never cold or dried out. They have some of the best shrimp tempura we have had. It is just as good as fine dinning. The shrimp are a good size and the batter is perfect, never just too much batter. Their rice is great and we really love the dumplings. You can order this as a meal, the menu is on the wall. They have a great selection of dishes. I always change my up. I just want tempura, not the fried veg. The dumplings are great as is. It is all great. The table you sit at is kept clean by someone I assume the food court shares. Now, the bad news. The service here is just beyond rude, unhelpful and this is always the way it is when we are there. We have been maybe 10 times. It is always the same woman who just wants nothing to do with you. She sits behind a dirty, thick glass and if you try to talk to her, have fun. She will point to the wall, have you look to the note on the counter that says "here" and "To go". She really wants you to order from this tablet. I do have to speak to her to tell her all shrimp tempura, no veg. She does not respond. Now, she can talk and she does speak English. She is just so very rude and I guess hates her job. Anyway, you get a bill, you pay her and you get a number. When your food is ready you go get it. Now, she can pull this all off so rudely, never with a smile. She is just not a nice person. But suck it up. The food is worth it.
I love that there is one nearby in Mar Vista. This Hannosuke is located in the food court of Mitsuwa Japanese grocery. I had the Shrimp Tendon for $16.48. There are 4 shrimp tempura, soft boiled egg, seaweeds, pumpkin and pepper on top of the rice.
Good tempura is traditionally high class, light, and expensive. Hannosuke offers a different approach to tempura with their tendon rice bowls that are saucy, robust, and full of flavor. Their menu concept is very simple: tempura, soba, and rice, but they still have a lot of choices and even a kids option. I ordered the Edomae Tendon because it had the anago (freshwater eel). It came with lots of rice, miso soup, and some pickled ginger. It all tastes very good and it’s very hearty. Only issue is that it could be crunchier. The tempura was a little soggy.
When you decide to go to California but your mind is still thinking about the last Japan trip... 😂 we found this inside of a food court at @mitsuwa_marketplace, which was the best Japanese market we've been to outside of Japan! This Tempura dish from @tendon_hannosuke_usa was delicious. The highlight was that soft boiled egg that was lightly fried!
Always come here to get some tempura. There’s a nice dark sauce they have that I like saucing up the rice with and run the yolk over after. I have noticed every time I go the customer service is on a decline though.

Some of the reviews and reviewers about this place are idiotic, complaining about things that are inherent to a Japanese, fried food, place in a good court. It's tempura, from the folks that have specializes in it for years and years in Japan. They specialize in this fried dish that is served over rice. The quality and consistenc won't be the same compared to the original because it's thousands of miles away, but it's still some of the best tempura options in the area. It's in a food court, a supermarket food court so what kind of service are you expecting?!? It's basically a damn cafeteria! All that being said, a proper tempura is crispy on the outside but still holds the integrity of the ingredient in the inside and Hannosuke does it really well and on a pretty consistent basis. My favorite is always the soft boiled egg that is still runny and gooey as it spills over my rice but still had crunchy bits of tempura batter. It's all definitely worth a visit if you are a fan of freshly made tempura and Linda know what you are getting into.

There is a Hannosuke in the US? Whaaaat?!? For those who are unfamiliar, the original store in Tokyo ranks among the best for tendon (tempura over rice). Judging by its greasy appearance, you'd think it's quite heavy. But it's surprisingly light, to me at least. Yummy food, good portion, reasonably priced, and always a line. While in Japan, I waited for almost an hour in pouring rain to get one. This is even before they were open for the day! It tells you how popular this place is. Here, no line, still yummy, portion a bit less, but still reasonably priced. I came away a happy eater.
I always visit this spot due to their seasonal dish and selection. alway's a long wait. reason why i didn't give 5 star is due to their lack of system on order's meaning you wont know when your food is ready you have to stand there and wait for number calling. can wait for 30+ minute's sometimes that's the only issue i dont like other then that is a great spot for tempura

The food was average, not particularly impressive. The tempura lacked crunch and was soggy, with some vegetables overcooked—nothing you couldn’t easily make at home. Service was disappointing. I wasn’t informed that the shiso tempura (listed on the menu) wasn’t available until after I ordered, and there was no apology offered. The cashier mentioned nori tempura as a replacement, but the lack of communication was frustrating. There was also a long wait despite the place not being busy, and no free water was provided. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time I’ve had a subpar experience here.

I’ve been dining at this restaurant for nearly ten years and usually enjoy the food, but today’s experience was disappointing. The batter was thicker and over-fried, one of the shrimp had a fishy taste, the soy sauce was a bit too light, and the rice was wetter and stickier than expected. Overall, it didn’t quite have the authentic Japanese touch this time.

This USED to be my favorite restaurant at Mitsuwa. But the quality of the food has been on a steady decline while prices have gone up. Each time I stop by, I reluctantly try my usual order of a la carte items, in the hopes that perhaps the inconsistencies in quality of both customer service and food are subject to unforseen circumstances. That is not the case. In my observations, its been due to the carelessness of the employees who, perhaps due to management issues, have been doling out subpar food and service. On my last visit, i was not greeted at all but rather glanced at and ignored by a woman who continued to do "busy work" rather than acknowledge me at the counter. After a few moments i was taken aback by a rather hastily and annoyed "Do u need something?" Yell from the back kitchen of the restaurant. I smiled and kindly stated I would like to order from a clerk like i always do. The woman never came to the counter to speak to me but yelled from afar to use the new giant grease stained covered screen to order. After looking at how dirty the screen was and the lack of personable service, I wanted to walk away. But, being the hopeless optimist that I am and my love for this restaurants tempura, i begrudgingly used the filthy screen to input my order. Much to my dismay, the quality of the food continues to decline, both in freshness and presentation. Sadly, i will not be patronizing this restaurant any longer.
From reading recent reviews, I have to say this also used to be my fav in the Mitsuwa food court. Today my tempura was not light and crispy crunch but soft and a bit soggy. Disappointed and will probably not eat here again.
where is grand fa who made tendon ?? rice and no sauce ... what happen to this place... rice is not japanese sushi rice.. it like watery rice cake horrible quality plz bring back grand father who made tendon

I’ve been here several times since early 2018 and everything is getting worse. This place used to have a great tempura bowl with good price, however now it is REALLY hard to even order especially on weekends. It is not because there are so many customers, it is because their SUPER poor preparation to serve the customers. It took 30mins just to make an order even I was the second customer standing at the counter. It took an hour to finally get my food. All staffs seemed out of their mind belatedly setting up the kitchen at noon time (peak lunchtime I may say).
Waiting 40 minutes and counting for a simple lunch combo. The wait and horrible service are not worth the quality of food. Avoid this place.
