If you like corn, you will like Komal. Even the tiles are like corn kernels! As someone who doesn’t typically like corn tortillas, Komal’s dedication to the craft of masa is not lost on me. The fragrance from the tortillas really highlights all of their other ingredients, whether it’s the meat, cactus, or potatoes. The textures and flavors completely surpassed my expectations overall. We got the tlacoyos, taco sonia, tacos de suadero, tacos de costilla, and the flor de calabaza quesadilla. We loved all of them!! The quesadilla is a sleeper hit and probably the most-loved overall with the sweetness from the squash blossom shining through, although if I had to pick a personal favorite, it would probably be the tacos de costilla with the caramelized onions! The items are also surprisingly good for sharing, and that way you can try more things! There’s no line (especially compared to Holbox) even though they’re on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list and the service is very fast. Honestly, it’s just a matter of time before this place blows up!

Decided to try this place for the first time. We ordered a couple of Tacos Sonia and the Brisket tacos. Also, we got a Mushroom Quesadilla. We started with the Taco Sonia. It was very flavorful and the tortilla was awesome. The salsa was a bit spicy, but really tasty with the taco. The Brisket Taco was good, but it was overshadowed by the Sonia. Lastly we shared the Mushroom. Quesadilla. It was very good as well with fresh mushrooms. We really enjoyed it. I remarked that this is probably my number 1 taco in LA, which is saying something! We came here on a Saturday late morning and the entire Mercado was packed. Get here early as the word is out.

Went to Mercado Paloma for Holbox, but didn’t want to wait an hour in line. Stumbled up Komal, and very glad we did. Hands down the best corn tortilla I have ever had. The tacos suaderos were tender, juicy, beefy perfection. Their salsa roja had the perfect amount of heat and smokiness. And the elote loaf dessert dish was delicious without being overly sweet. 10/10!

Wow! Absolute amazed by the food from Komal. I read about this place from the LA Times Best Restaurants list, and it did not disappoint. I loved the large food hall it was in, which was very festive and authentic. Only downside is it is hard to grab a seat, many people go here, it was very packed! The service was super helpful, kind, and made great recommendation. The food was exceptional and the tortillas were the star of the show. I personally loved the skirt steak and crispy potato taco as well as the cheese-stuffed plantains in mole sauce. Everything was a home run, from the food to the service to the ambiance, highly recommend!

Everything tasted really authentic The hot sauces were really good. The tortillas were very fresh and perfect bite to them. The quesadilla was very interesting and I really appreciate how the flavors came together with the addition of the blossom and the corn as well as the additional corn tortilla, which seems like a lot, but it actually wasn’t. The mole was the perfect blend of sweet and savory, and it had very earthy flavor undertones to it.

Food was delicious! We tried the molotes de plátano, which are three small, crispy banana fritters filled with cheese, served on top of a rich, flavorful mole sauce. We also enjoyed tacos de suadero, tender brisket cooked to perfection; Taco Sonia, a specialty with beef rib, chorizo, potatoes, and cactus; and flor de calabaza quesadilla, a savory quesadilla filled with tender squash blossoms and cheese. Additionally, there was a daily special: taco de huitlacoche, made with truffle-like corn fungus that has a smoky, earthy flavor. All dishes were served with warm, homemade tortillas made from fresh maize dough, enhancing the authentic taste.

Komal is hands-down the best Mexican restaurant in the entire United States — no exaggeration, no close second. I travel the country constantly for work and pleasure, and I have literally stopped eating Mexican food anywhere else because 99.9% of places use conventional, mass-produced ingredients that completely miss the soul of real Mexican cuisine. Komal is the rare, shining exception. Everything here is made with real, authentic, high-quality ingredients you can actually taste in every single bite. I’ve worked my way through the menu — tacos al pastor, mole poblano, enchiladas, quesadillas, tamales, birria, even the salsas and aguas frescas — and every dish is consistently exceptional. The flavors are vivid, balanced, and unmistakably authentic, the kind of food that reminds you why Mexican cuisine is one of the greatest in the world. Komal isn’t just my favorite Mexican restaurant; it’s my favorite restaurant in America, period. I sincerely hope they expand or at least stay exactly as they are so more people can discover what real Mexican food is supposed to taste like. They deserve every accolade out there — multiple Michelin stars wouldn’t even be enough. If you care deeply about authentic flavors and real ingredients, do yourself a favor and come here. You’ll thank me later.

Located inside Mercado La Paloma. One of the best Mexican dishes we ever had. They make their own fresh masa everyday. The corn tortilla is delicious. The owner used to work for Holbox. She saved up and open this restaurant. Amazing accomplishment. Komal has been designated Bib Gourmand. Service staffs were friendly, helpful and attentive. We will definitely be back.

Really good FLOR DE CALABAZA QUESADILLA!! The corn is so sweet and succulent, paired with the soft taco and the squash bloom, it's an amazing combination. The spicy sauce balances out the sweetness and the fat from the cheese. Excellent service, very friendly people working there. Definitely recommend trying out their food.

Overall, the food here was super flavorful, unique and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The taco de sonia and tacos de suadero were the standouts, especially the suadero which was incredibly juicy and flavorful! The molotes were okay, but I would not order them again. I would definitely come here again

What a great place with friendly service and great food. We really enjoyed the MOLOTES DE PLATANO, the FLOR DE CALABAZA QUESADILLA, HONGOS QUESADILLA, and the special GRASSHOPPER QUESADILLA. I think the Grasshopper was my favorite today and the FLOR DE CALABAZA is one of my wife's all time favorites.

One of the easiest five-star reviews I'v ever given. At an unbeatable price point, Komal offers delicious and filling Mexican dishes centered around masa. The tortillas alone are worth coming here -- they're so fresh and flavorful. Definitely order the squash blossom quesadilla. I also enjoyed the chuchito, which is a perfectly balanced pork tamal that uses creamy cheese and acidic pickled veggies to cut the pork/masa filling. I also have to plug the molotes, which are served with a delicious black mole that, despite being a bit on the sweeter side, is rich and full of complexity. Please support this fantastic business -- I hope they're a staple at mercado la paloma for years to come!

Authentic and tasty Mexican food tucked inside a predominantly Mexican food court. We tried the Tlacoyos, Flor de Calabaza, and Suadero tacos, along with the cactus and hibiscus aguas del día. The Flor de Calabaza was a standout and highly recommended. The tacos leaned a bit salty, but still flavorful. Note, the nearby Holbox has a very long line, but there was no wait to order at Komal. The tight parking was honestly the most stressful part of the visit. Overall, a great spot for authentic flavors without the wait.

The food at Komal is truly next level. There is marvelous craft and care and love that goes into this food. Honestly some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in Los Angeles. It’s deeply rich in flavor. The milpa salad was out of this world. Fresh and expressive. The costillas tacos were juicy.. everything superbly unified by the best tortillas I’ve ever had in my life.

Komal is located to the right when you enter the Mercado La Paloma. I got here around 3:20p and it was still busy inside the food court. I got the Flor del Calabaza quesadilla, which was unique in flavor. I also got the Chuchito which was packed and tasted superb. And I drank a cactus cucumber drink and what was so refreshing. There are other foods to try in the court that I will be returning to next time.

Komal is a masa/corn focused Mexican food counter at the Mercado La Paloma. The dishes are comforting and delicious. We got the tacos sonia, tlacoyos, squash blossom quesadilla and a weekend exclusive cornbread. They post their weekend specials to their Instagram! We enjoyed all the dishes but our favorite was definitely the squash blossom quesadilla. It was stuffed with lots of corn and cheese and came with a great sauce! The taco sonia was pretty large (check out the lime for scale!) - we paired it with mashed potatoes and it was definitely the most filling part of the meal.

This recently opened eatery at The Mercado la Paloma has already been recognized by the LA Times to be in the top 50 restaurants in the city. The masa is extra special and the tacos and tamales are skillfully prepared and presented to delight the taste buds! No wonder it has already been for a Michelin rating. It will be the second Michelin rated restaurant at the Mercado la Paloma.

The tastiest Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles!! I love the location and the colorful yellow tiles on the facade of KOMAL. Smartly designed aesthetics and beautifully thought out menu. The prices are fair for such quality ingredients. Komal is an upcoming business with care and true craft behind every bite. Also the aqua fresca is super nice on a hot day and the pan de calabaza is everything. I dream about KOMAL!

The food is outstanding and the prices are surprisingly affordable for LA. The tortillas are fresh and delicious, the mole is fantastic, and everything comes out quickly. The whole atmosphere is lively and welcoming. Definitely go early to grab a table. The zucchini cake was one of the best I’ve ever had. The street corn from the neighboring stalls is also amazing. It’s a perfect place to spend an evening.

Fantastic corn tortillas. Had the tacos de suadero, taco Sonia, and taco de costilla. Each taco came with its own salsa that compliments the meats. I was especially impressed with the taco Sonia with the pickled cactus, a new favorite of mine. The agua del dia was strawberry and hibiscus which paired well with the savory and spicy tacos. It is located in a small food hall that gets crowded but definitely worth a try!

This place is a real hidden treasure. Me and my friends came to the Mercado for Holbox, but we grabbed several items to go to eat while waiting in line. Somehow, I ended up eating some of the best Mexican food I’ve had outside of Mexico out of a to-go container. We got the flautas, squash blossom quesadilla and two agua Fresca of the day. Agua Fresca were balanced and refreshing, nothing was too sweet. The flautas were super crispy and the mole sauce was delectable (full of flavor and balanced between sweet and savory). The quesadilla was perfect and the tortilla had incredible texture. The salsa was super flavorful and paired well with the quesadilla. While my friend and I were waiting for our order, we watched the cooks make the tortillas from scratch and marveled at the different types of corn on display at the front, marked by name and the region of Mexico they are from. I got the chuchito to take home to share with my boyfriend. Eaten 3 hours after being prepared and after being microwaved … it was the best tamal I’ve ever had. The masa was incredibly smooth and soft and had the subtle corn sweetness. The pork filling was tender, savory and paired perfectly with the corn. The pickles lightened up the tamal and added brightness to each bite. We devoured the chuchito within a minute. I think that the food is super well-priced considering how high quality the dishes are. You can tell everything is made with love. This place is destined to blow up, and all success is well-earned. I read a Google review where someone said the tortillas were too thick, but I think that person has never had a homemade tortilla before and for that, I pity them because they could not appreciate what Komal has to offer. I’m definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu and will bring as many of my loved ones as possible! If you love real Mexican cuisine, I strongly recommend you visit Komal!

Komal has authentic flavor & amazing presentation. To get both in a shared dining space is highly uncommon. The widely known quesadilla was delicious, though the cheese was slightly stronger than I anticipated. Not bad - but something to go into your first bite expecting! The corn cake was FANTASTIC. I pushed a bit of the cream aside so I could keep the corn flavor without it being overpowered, but it was well made and a perfect balance of sweetness without it being real “cake”. If you’re coming to Komal, don’t wait in the long line outside - that’s specific to Holbox. Head on in and find the real Komal line!

Excellent flautas. The crunchy corn tortilla rolls with cheese and mole made for a good meal. Skip the new pan de elote. 🌽 It tasted like it was a day short of becoming hard tack. The passion fruit topping and cream weren't enough to overcome it.
