After only one time here this has become one of my favorite spots in West LA. Their food is amazing! Best flatbread on this planet. Specifically the pepperoni one thoughhh 🔥. I went with the Grass Feed Cheeseburger (medium well) for dinner and it was one of the best damn burgers I’ve ever had. They also have a good selection of beers and a nice wine list. I ended up going with one of their ciders they had on the menu. Everything here was great, I came here based on all the good Yelp reviews and they were on point. I’ll definitely be back to visit again
Have been here twice, love the food and the wine and the care they put into making everything!
I just had a lunch with my good friend today. Westside Tavern provides the excellent service. All I can say is it is worth to go that restaurant for a lunch or a dinner. The food is so really delicious.
both times i’ve eaten here, i’ve really enjoyed it. nice atmosphere, good service, great food and drinks
No matter who makes the drink, their "Old Fashioned" is the best I've had in LA, hands down. Doesn't matter who the bartender is, it's always the best.
I was amazed. Everything is delicious, wonderful, fast, polite, and such. After I told my waitress that I don't want ice in my water, another waiter came with refill and he already knew that I didn't want any ice. plates are removed in a timely manner, new dishes are coming fast. The food is really great, I believe you can trust my word since I am from Russia and after Russia any American dining does not taste good. There are some exceptions though, And Westside Tavern is one of them. Very, very pleased. Will go again.
This place is always great. Never disappointed, and I've pretty much sampled everything on the menu. Highlights are their flatbread pizzas, vegetable chili, Brussels sprouts with prosciutto, caramelized cauliflower...and the best damn cheeseburger in LA!
I like Westside tavern. The steak and fish are usually delicious. The cheese and charcuterie plates are really good and their seasonal cocktails are tasty! It gets pretty crowded and the bar area is always too crowded. (If there's a long wait, I usually go upstairs to the movie theater's bar for a glass of wine while I wait ;-)
Welcoming atmosphere with excellent and often inventive dishes! Chef Steven came to our table and recommended items, including wonderful desserts. Drinks and wine selection were great as well.
My husband and I tried this restaurant for dinner the first time last week and are mad at ourselves for not trying it sooner! Our server was incredibly polite and helpful, the food was flat out delicious and the drinks were great. For us, it's a once-in-a-blue-moon place to eat because of the prices, but we enjoyed our meal so much it was worth it.
One word: Cheeseburger!!! Okay, three more: Sticky Toffee Pudding. Great local spot. If no tables are available, head to the tall tables in the bar (competition can be tough at peak movie times - this is next to Westside Landmark). Never disappointed. We've done large family dinners, date night out, mother and son lunches, and quick-meal-before-movie here. The best night was seeing Shawn & Woody from Psych :) Yay.
New American w/ a hint of organic/farm to table/house made tomfoolery. Normally that'd be a turn off, but the bar program... My goodness... Sure, lunch is great, dinner's great, and the pastry is all excellent, and the service is fantastic, and oh yeah, the mall parking is fine most times of day. Great, but the bar is freakin' amazing. Good bartenders, with smart, snappy service. Drink prices are typical $12ish, but what you get is a top tier. Sit at the bar, have a sandwich, and let the bartender handle your problems. It's great overall, but the bar is a real stand out. Park right underneath, or if it's a weekend night, on the Overland side. The walk is worth the reduced hassle.
Good westside location. Not easy to park but free for 3 hours. Great fried green beans and super delicious shrimp tacos. Delicious IPAs on tap. Friendly staff. Thumbs up!
I can't believe it took me this long to eat here. What an amazing meal! The place is nice anytime, but it was all decked out for the holidays. We sat down and prepared to order drinks when the waiter came to share the specials. He started to describe a special whisky cocktail called "The Griswald" and I had to stop him right there. "I'll have that please! I don't even care what's in it" They must know Christmas Vacation is my favorite Christmas movie :) The drink was awesome. Whiskey and lemon with a sprig of rosemary. Yumm. And the food. Wow. Who knew brussels sprouts could be this indulgent! Amazing. And the mushroom flat bread was incredible as well. They change up the menu every month, but it seems it is all great.
Great place to stop in for a quick drink or bite to eat. Taylor was working the bar and even during a rush of customers he remains calm and very attentive. I will be coming back. Not to mention the food here is delicious.
Classic Los Angeles restaurant with a bar extending the entire length. The wait staff is very good. Plenty of fresh fish and meat dishes. The menu changes daily. Their cocktails are excellent. This is a wonderful place to eat and just chill.
Very busy place! Sat at the bar to avoid waiting 30min+ but that was OK. The service is great and the food is amazing: the hummus plate & the lamb dip were delicious. The also have a great selection of craft beers.
This is a great restaurant to grab dinner before or after your movie. The service is quick but you still have a really nice sit down restaurant experience. Everything I've tried has been delicious. I recommend the Calamari & White Shrimp Fritto Misto, if you are getting an appetizer for the table. I've been a fan of every entree I've tried! The drinks list is extensive. My favorite is the Spicy Basil Paloma but they have a lot of options and the servers are great about suggesting drinks if you are deciding between a few.
i love this place. everything on the menu tastes great. i've never had a bad meal here. they switch the menu seasonally a bit, and always have California beers on tap and a good liquor selection. get the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, it's addictive!
Ordered the cheeseburger - it was delicious! A great place to grab food before seeing a movie at the Landmark. I told them I only had 45 minutes and the staff was great about getting the food to me quickly.
This is my favorite chill weekday bar. The food is good and the drinks are consistently good no matter which bartender you get. Every single bartender here is awesome and friendly. And the new cornbread on the menu is amazing. Wish they would bring back their meat and cheese plate and maybe put Shiner Bock on tap but then I would probably be there everynight!
I hate to say it's the best food in town because I like getting a table without the craziness of other restaurants. If you like complaining don't come. Everything from the crafted cocktails, to the poki to perfect salmon with fresh creative side dishes are amazing . I compare others to Chef Ben Cohen kitchen (yes I know the chef name) and so many fall very short. Westside Tavern is my comfort food.....I can rely on the drinks, food and service. Did I mention the desserts.....save room all made in house.
Really good chicken sandwich. Westside Tavern is an enjoyable place to go to eat in a pleasant environment.
Westside Tavern is a great place to dine for work lunches, drinks or simply grabbing a bite before a movie. I love that you can dine here on every occasion. They offer a variety of beers of draft. My favorite dish is the Cobb Salad. Just to note they are a bit pricey for the type of food you are getting and they only takes dinner reservations.
I've avoided this place thinking it can't be a good value since it's in the Landmark Theaters Mall. How good could you be with a built in customer base? I have to admit, I was wrong. It was the perfect place for a family dinner when brother came to town. Food was tasty, service good and ambiance casual and pleasant. Will return
Excellent, nuanced menu. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Particularly enjoyed the Idaho trout, will be back to try the Prosciutto chicken as the combinations of flavors sounded amazing (kale, mushrooms, pumpkin, balsamic glaze if I recall).
Always reliably good. The burger is top rated. They also have an excellent sticky toffee pudding. Order it with vanilla ice cream. All their food choices are favorites.
Disadvantage: there's always a wait. However, the staff are friendly, and the food is consistently good. They also have a good classic cocktail program, and a rotating beer list, so you can always find something seasonally (in LA) appropriate.
I came in for dinner with my family and a local friend who recommended Westside Tavern. It was a really great restaurant, with great food, but maybe a bit expensive for what you get. If there was a bit more value, I would definitely rate 5 stars. My wife had the cheeseburger w/ sweet potato fries ($22). It was perfectly cooked and the fries were better that the average sweet potato fries. I had their special, tagliatelle (fresh made in house) with a saltimbocca mixture. It was pretty good, really enjoyed it. The weistephaner hefeweizen on tap was perfect. Great place.
Parking was free <3 hours, and $3 for an additional 2 hours. Beyond 5 hours results in standard parking rates. On Friday night at around 8pm going West on Pico Blvd was a sobriety check point. We came for a large party (>20 people), and we managed to secure 15 seats at the cocktail tables near the bar for a Friday night at 6pm. We were allowed to seat without having the entire party present thankfully. The waitress, Mary, kept all our orders and checks separate, extraordinary! A banquet room is also available for booking for large events. The environment is classy, bordering on upscale. Casual dress code accepted. The food is a little pricy. We had the tempura green beans and fried seafood basket (calamari and wild shrimp fritto misto) for appetizers, and both were unremarkable. The beer selection was also overshadowed by the wine list and mixed drinks. I had the cheeseburger, and it was smaller than anticipated. The accompanying side salad was half the plate, so I ended up sated anyway. The best part of the meal was dessert. The warm sticky toffee cake was a 10/10. We ordered a few plates to share among us. The size of the cake is approximately the same as a burrito bowl lid from Chipotle.
Jar of chicken liver mousse is the business. But they recently started charging extra for extra bread and the amount of bread that comes with it is never sufficient. Nothing else on the menu particularly stands out. Tagliatelle is good with the meat sauce but that's just a special. I've heard good things about the short ribs but never had a chance to try them.
Great drinks. Nice place to have a cocktail before or after a movie at Landmark. They have the BEST ice cubes. Seriously, they have this special ice machine that makes these perfect cubes that keep your drink cold, without the quick-melt that waters down a good cocktail.
I went there for a company lunch. The atmosphere was just right for a team lunch, not too expensive and enough seating. They have wonderful appetizer for everybody to share. The beer was pretty good as well. I feel like I would go back again because it is pretty good for any occasion.
They have a decent wine list and the food is pretty tasty. I only had 2 issues - our server seemed to have too many tables as we had to get his attention several times (and he looked a little overwhelmed) and as we left the restaurant, we were harassed by a homeless/mentally ill person in the lobby area of the mall. He threw a soda cup full of soda and ice at us as we walked towards the stairs to the parking deck. I realize this isn't the restaurant's fault but that really did ruin our evening. Shouldn't there be some security presence for these types of concerns?
Great place for a dinner and a movie type of date night as it's located in the Westside Pavilion where the movie theaters are conveniently located. This restaurant is HUGE and usually very busy. I ordered the Idaho trout and it was absolutely delicious. For such a high volume restaurant, the quality of the food here is great.
This place is great. Really friendly staff. They have really great booth seating, but it is quite dark inside. They have a good kids menu. The cocktails for the adults are quite good too. Their menu has a wide range of food from the comfort of grilled cheese and tomato soup to some adventuress pumpkin flat bread.
When you do.take out in this environment WLA Tavern is as good as it gets. The menu has been abbreviated a bit but there are still multiple great items. Last night I had the Crispy Shrimp Tacos and the tempura green beans. My wife had the Scottish Salmon. They are perfectly packaged so they are hot when we get them home and they are all wonderful. The tacos are as good as I have ever had. Looking forward to the inside restaurant reopening when it's safe.
The hostess wasn't inviting at all, but our waiter Aaron was excellent, attentive but not overly so, very kind and professional. The ambience was very relaxing. We didn't wait long for our food and it was delicious. The cheeseburger and the roasted lamb dip was very good. I will definitely come back
Hm, wondering where to hang out before a movie at the nearby Landmark Theater? This is a good choice. It's a nice-looking place, which modern but warm decor, and quite expansive. Since my friend and I were there at about 6pm on a Friday evening, there were plenty of seats at the bar, where we decided to sit. The bar filled up quite fast as the evening progressed, however, as this is a very popular spot. They have a good-sized menu with all your comfort favorites and a pretty good craft beer list. I ended up getting a grilled cheese and tomato soup combo with an order of their house-made potato chips and they were delish! Washed it all down with some Craftsman 1903. My friend got the shrimp tacos and ahi poke--very good as well. Not the cheapest food, mind you, but reasonable and good quality. The bartenders serving us were friendly and efficient, and I'll be sure to hit it up again the next time in the area.
I was going to see Argo at the Landmark Theatre the other day and met my friend at Westside Tavern. It was very crowded and we had to hover over people who were leaving a high table at the bar in order to get it. We sat down and I ordered a cucumber martini, which was refreshing and delicious. Then we were deciding between two bottles of red and the waiter was very nice and gave us a tasting and the tempranillo won (the one he had suggested initially). We shared the chicken cobb chop salad and the broccolini flatbread with fontina, toasted fennel, capers and roasted tomato. The salad was decent but not memorable, but the flatbread was good. The atmosphere was festive, and the proximity to the movie theatre very convenient.
Food was pretty good. Had the special of the day pasta. Needed salt and asked if the kitchen could simply add a little creme to the bolognese sauce and was told "they won't do that." Which must be some LA thing 'thing' I'll need to get accustomed to. Server didn't come around a lot, as result, we had large pockets of time where we couldn't order not ask for more of anything. Friendly enough, just didn't see him as frequently or quickly as I would have liked.
Food was good but not great. Cool atmosphere for this strip (other than the entrance being in a mall). Not sure what the point is of the booths situated under picture windows when they pull down black out shades. And, no, the sun wasn't low enough to shine directly into the restaurant.
I loved that it was big and loud (not too loud) and busy. The food was very good, the wine was flowing and the three of us enjoyed what we had. I tried their prosciutto, which was actually pretty killer. I expected small portions at a place like this, but that was not the case. The crust was not my thing, yet I find myself wishing I had a piece right now. Service was great, but I can;t bring myself to four stars, because there was nothing driving me to come back. For those that work or live in the immediate area, this would be an excellent place to meet with a group of friends. For those not in the immediate area, having to navigate a mall parking lot may not be your thing. They care about the food quality for sure. Maybe I would have been happier with my experience had I been there for Happy Hour.
The service is good as is the decor and atmosphere. It is not my favorite place, however, because it seems to be very inconsistent. I have had both great and mediocre meals here. I would recommend their grilled meats and fish but would stay away from their fried food. The fish and chips and a variety of fried food is what I have found to be inconsistent. All in all, I will keep coming because it is generally good and convenient.
This was my first time at Westside Tavern and it was a bit of a mixed bag. I was part of a group of 9 about to see the first showing of 'The Force Awakens' at the Landmark Theatres upstairs, so we decided to grab some grub here first. The restaurant itself is very clean and nicely designed. It's very conveniently located amongst a myriad of business that can just walk over, or it's also immediately adjacent to the parking structure for the Westside Pavilion that will give you 3 hours free parking. The staff was very pleasant - no complaints there. Being that it was a weeknight, it was clearly a place where people frequent after work for some socializing and libations. The food is probably where this place falls a bit short. My friend and I both ordered the same thing...the Turkey BLT with Tomato Basil soup. The sandwich was just okay...nothing to write home about. It wasn't until my friend mentioned that my soup looked different than theirs that I realized they had brought me Chicken Tortilla instead of Tomato Basil. Because we were pressed for time (and I also like Chicken Tortilla soup) I didn't bother to bring it to their attention, but I'm sure they would have corrected it. Unfortunately, the soup was disappointing...somehow bland, yet also too spicy (if that makes sense). But I did taste my friend's Tomato Basil and didn't like that at all (and they wouldn't eat it). It was oddly tangy. Honestly, a bowl of hot marinara sauce would have been better. Some friends ordered burgers that they said were pretty run-of-the-mill, while others had the fried chicken. I tasted the chicken and wasn't impressed. I would much rather stop at a Popeye's. On the plus side, we did have the Hummus with Pita Bread as an appetizer which was pretty tasty. Given the prices (slightly higher than average), I really wasn't satisfied that I got my money's worth and don't know if I would return as a place to grab a meal. To me, this seems best as a place to get drinks and some appetizers before (or after) your movie. One other thing...the Yelp page said they take reservations, but they wouldn't take ours and we were even told by the Hostess that they don't take reservations. Their website says they take "limited reservations", so plan accordingly.
Extremely expensive, not a friendly staff, Difficult to find. It is in the old westside mall, which is now closed. The only thing left in the mall area is the westside tavern and a movie theater. You would think for the money they charge, you they would hire a staff said is polite and considerate. However, it was quite the opposite. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, who was looking for a nice friendly meal. I am sorry I could not give a higher recommendation, however, the truth is better.
I may be biased against hipster, overpriced, gastro pub food, but aren't we all getting tired of this stuff? I don't care what you do with brussel sprouts, no matter how wonderful they may taste, it doesn't justify the price. I've sampled a number of dishes and they tasted good, but there wasn't a single thing that I have had there that I craved later. A mark of a truly good meal stirs one to want to come back for it and everything here was forgettable.
Had the vegetarian tacos - so tasty. But, when I ate the salad that comes with it, after eating 1/4 of it, I found the lettuce clumps covered with dirt, approximately 1/2 of the rest of the salad was dirty. I took photos of it and presented it to the waiter - who was shocked and apologized. He did ask what I wanted in lieu of the salad and I opted for ice cream to go as I was waiting for the movie to start. I'm in the show for 20 to 45 minutes when I broke out in a sweat and my stomach hurt. I ran out and didn't leave the restroom for some time. Got home and for the next day and half, was totally sick. This restaurant normally has great dishes - had sauteed broccoli once and cooked it the same way ever since. But this, really upset me - was so shocked and so upset that I had to leave the movie and was tied to the toilet for a day and half. What do you do now? This one visit ruined it all for me.
First time yesterday eating at the Westside Tavern with a friend who's been there many times. Ordered the halibut fish and chips special. First, I was disappointed it wasn't paired with a nice coleslaw. The green side salad offered was OK until I bit into dirt. I didn't realize that both the fish batter and the tartar sauce had strong spicy pepper components. They hit the back of my throat and I was coughing for about 5 minutes. At that point I really regretted my choice. When I was able to resume eating, I had to peel the batter off the fish and forgo the tartar sauce. Honestly, based on this experience, I'm not sure I'll go back.
Food was tasty enough but service was slow for a limited menu/fairly empty restaurant and food was pricey for the quality/what you get. It took so long for them to come and take our order that we decided to only order apps (vs. a main dish). On the plus side, they were good about getting our apps out quickly once we told them we had to make a movie at a specific time.
